~ Our 500th Blog ~

Carol, when I asked you if I could write the 500th blog, you graciously said yes, as long as I didn't write about you. I promised I wouldn't. I didn't promise I wouldn't ask everyone else to! I commissioned a portrait of you from the world renowned artist DeeDee. I asked everyone else to contribute what they could, and boy did they deliver. So I'm not going to tell you how much I appreciate you and all you do, and I'm not going to tell you how much I love the Nest and you, or how much of a crackwhore you are! I'll let everyone else do it~

Being welcomed into the nest has been so eggciting. Carol and I go way back.. to another time and another blog. But that place didn't feel like home. A lot of folks simply were barking up the wrong tree. Sure, there were plenty of peckers about, but it wasn't a comfy warm safe haven where a gal or guy could rest their weary wings and leaf their troubles behind. At times I felt like I was going to crack, seriously, no yolk. So thank you for setting this place up, Carol. You're a good egg. I'm not quite sure what brought me to the "other blog" but it was my first experience with blogging. I was surprised to feel so at home and meet so many fun people. I especially enjoyed cpgem8 and her cool writing style. She always seemed so calm and sweet. She's a doll, a one-of-a-kind sweetheart--and every day I see her kind heart. When my husband was alive, I would get up in the morning and he would have my coffee ready for me and we would sit at the table, sipping our coffee, reading the paper or watching The View, and discuss plans for the day. Now when I get up, there is no one to greet me except for two old, sleeping cats. I would be drinking my morning coffee alone except for the friends that I now have on the blog. I look forward to checking in on the blog each morning and seeing what my friends are up to and what the topic of the day is. The blog has brought me friendships, laughter and tears. Dear Carol, I wanted to join the other owls in thanking you for providing us with a warm safe haven to fly to when life becomes too overwhelming in "the real world". Before my sister died I would spend the first hour of every day on the phone with her. After she was gone I felt very alone during that hour. Eventually I found refuge in a small blog through Rosie's. I would then spend the first hour of every day reading posts and interacting with strangers on that blog. Many of these strangers became friends. When that door closed, again I felt sadness because Myspace did not have the same feeling of 'home'. Congrats CAROL and Hooters Everywhere! Although I'm not here often lately, I still love you all. After retiring from serial careers in Banking (where 'it was always about the counting') and Law Enforcement('enough porn for life, thanks!') I find myself often wandering down more numberless and porn-free pathways. But 500 is cause for celebration! Once we hit our one-year anniversary, I discovered that going back and reading old posts to see "What were we discussing ONE YEAR AGO TODAY?" can be a really fun diversion. Anyone else ever do that?
