~ DNA TEST?? ~

by Tina~in_ut

(you may have to turn your volume up for this one.....I had to listen to it twice before I really heard what she says!)

This is the type of person I get to talk to every day at work. With the internet so easy to use, most of the people who call reservations now are people who have some kind of problem or are just inept. I don't mind talking to the travel agents who call, because I can commiserate with them about the inept person they are calling for. Some days these people drive me crazy, and other days I just have to laugh! It used to bother me when people called for the International baggage policy because they were traveling to Hawaii. Now I just ask them which country they are flying from!!! Oh....or when they want to fly from Omaha, Nebraska to Macon, Georgia and they only want a non-stop flight! Who in the hell flies non-stop between those two cities? Call a charter, honey!

The other day, I had a doozy of a passenger call. Actually, it made me very nervous at first. When someone calls and they mention the word disabled, we have to be very careful of what we say and what we ask of them. The girl was traveling with her son and infant daughter. After a couple of minutes I found out that her mother was conferenced in on the call. They both explained to me that they were traveling the next day and the infant would need oxygen. We need 48 hrs notice for oxygen requests. The passenger cannot bring their own. For safety reasons, we have to provide it. Also, they were traveling on SkyWest, one of our Connection Carriers, and they do not allow oxygen on their planes. It would have to be a mainline plane. Well, only SkyWest planes fly to Long Beach, so I explained that they would have to travel to either Orange County or LAX. Of course, they didn't want to have to pay to change their tickets (it was going to cost them another $170 each). AND they thought it was ridiculous that they had to pay $100 each direction for the oxygen. They made the reservations a month ago and were just now telling us about the oxygen. In the end, they got off the phone without changing their reservation. I talked to my boss about the call afterward and he said, "Well, now that they have told us that the infant needs oxygen, they are going to have to get a letter from their doctor stating that she doesn't if they decide to fly without it." (the infant has epilepsy and if she has a seizure lasting longer than 5 minutes, she'd stop breathing and would need oxygen) So I called the passenger back. What I didn't know was that the phone number in the reservation was the mother's. I called and was informed ever so rudely that she had just called Southwest and they allow a person to take their Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) on board at no fee and that she and her family are never flying our airline again. I lost it! Well......as much as I could lose it! I politely informed her that I, and every other representative that she had talked to, had given her the correct information for what she asked. Not once had she asked us about a POC. She asked for oxygen. They are completely different things and I also informed her that she needed to decide which she needed and that she is more than welcome to use a POC on board our airline at no charge. She got off the phone still thinking that the whole thing was our fault. They just figured an airline would have oxygen on board in case of an emergency! Well duh.....we do! But not for individuals!!!! It's for the whole frickin' plane!!!!!

My co-worker had another winner. He arrived at the West Palm Beach airport with his family 45 minutes before his flight and we would not let him check-in. He somehow thought that 45 minutes was enough time to check-in for an International flight. Actually, he thought this because he was flying to Atlanta first and then connecting to a flight to South Africa. I don't understand how he thought we were going to input his passport information for all four, check to see if they required a Visa, check him in for his flight and tag his bags and get them on the aircraft when he would have barely made Domestic check-in time! My poor co-worker was stuck on the phone with him for over an hour listening to him complain and trying to find him a flight out the next day. He also didn't want to pay for the change and argued about that. Once everything was finished and he was set for the next day, he wanted to know how much we were going to compensate him for his time. ALL OF US WERE STUNNED!!!!! People have stopped taking ownership for their own mistakes. Of course he didn't get any compensation from us! Well, the next day, my co-worker looked up the reservation to check something she had forgotten about with the infant that was also traveling, and right there before her eyes, all the passengers had been compensated $200 each for their trouble by someone in another office! It just goes to show you, if you try long enough, you're bound to find someone to give you what you want!

I realize that these are extreme examples of the calls I get, but dang me.....I really wish there was a test given that people had to pass before they were allowed to leave the country and represent the U.S.A.~

  2. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first Zona!

Tina you are right no one wants to accept responsibility for themselves anymore. Having worked customer service in another life, there is nothing more frustrating to follow all of the companies policies and then have a higher up give them a reward for their bad behavior!

I went through this many times as a customer service manager, only to have the owner of the business override my descision and give away the store. What can you do?

I am an anal traveler I want to know everything before I take a trip and try to research what is required of me before I board a plane. I don't want to be embarassed when I check in! I guess I am a weirdo! LOL I have to say I am amazed at how many people don't understand that Hawaii is part of the United States! Good Lord what are they teaching in school these days?

  3. TINA: The video is priceless! I loved it! There are just some people out there that think they are right, no matter what. You can explain until you're ready to bang your head against the wall and you will never get them to understand or change their minds. I'm just sorry that you have to deal with so many of these people on a daily basis. I can't imagine the kind of patience that must take!

Great blog TINA..thanks for the early morning laughs!

  10. Lynnd..

I totally agree, I despise ppl overriding decisions, in my business it is done always.. I will tell a client no, they will call the airline and the airline ok's it. So now I tell clients to call the airline directly.. I don't even get involved..

Hope you have a better day 2day..

Area51, your comment made total sense.. you wanna go, but with all the sadness ya just don't know if mentally you are up for it..

tina~ I so understand your topic. I have people who call me all the time complaining about something. I am amazed at what they will ask for and ususally I end up telling them that "I'm sorry- the CEO didn't confer with me on that decision". They think we have the power to change anything and for heaven's sake why would they have to pay for what THEY bought???? LOL

  38. Good morning!

Congrats to Zona for 1st today! :)

OMG what a great blog!!!!!!! I can so relate, being in the medical field you get people who never want to take responsibility for things, from making an appt. to a follow up mammogram, to, well you know what I mean.

I stopped trying to rationalize a long time ago, now I refer anyone who is unhappy to Member Services.

Some call, most don't. It is a good option for them and they are better equipped than I to take care of unhappy people.

From Area 51: Barb, sending positive thoughts for your son, I hope everything goes well.

I hope everyone has a nice day!

  43. Congrats on 1st Zona!

Good afternoon Zona, Lynn D, Tina, IBB, Carol, Mek Goldie, EBJ and Jodi.

Tina I loved the video! I was waiting for that woman to crack a smile or something but she didn't. Oh my!

When I work in the income tax office we get some really strange questions from people that just leave us shaking our heads. One man wanted to know if he still had to file income tax once he retired...ummm yeah! One woman wanted to claim her makeup, saying it was part of her uniform. She was a hairdresser and had to look good. Don't think so chicky!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Zona Congrats on first and 50!

MEK Congrats on the 24 that was a 25! LOL

    EBJ Congrats on 69!

Tina Great blog today! Aren't people weird and funny and sometimes maddening?

Back in 1975, when I first started working for a crime prevention organization as a secretary, I had been there only a couple of days when I was left alone in the office. I got a call from a woman who demanded to know "What are you doing about lesbians?" I was speechless for a moment then answered truthfully, "We don't do anything about lesbians". The woman went on a 20 or 30 minutes rant about how lesbians in her neighborhood were trying to get her to join them and that they would sneak into her house. She knew this was true because her shower curtain was in a slightly different position then how she left it. It was obvious this woman wasn't "all there". I finally suggested she call her police department. She said she had talked to a lieutenant there many times and he had suggested she call us! LMAO!

  45. Sorry I haven't posted much lately. This period, which is into it's 6th week is just draining me. I have an appointment in the morning with the doctor. Hopefully he will give me the same pill I had before that worked real good. I so can't wait till I never have another period.

Sacbarb I hope everything goes well with your son. ((HUGS))

Lynn D ((((HUGS)))) to you, your cousins and your family.

Tina, little Tina, Tinka and anyone else who is sick (((HUGS))) to you too...then again maybe just good wishes...I don't want to get too close and get what any of you have.

Susan great job on the weekend! I loved the pictures of the luminary ceremony. I think that's so cool!

Anyone who is trying to loose weight good luck! I know you can do it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Shirley! That is one hell of a long period! You must be really, really tired of it and just plain tired. I hope the doctor can help resolve that for you.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just Lin a couple summers ago I had a 7 week one followed by a 4 week one with only a week and a half between them. Thats when I went and got this pill. I am getting pretty fed up with this. It's hard to go out anywhere, even if I felt like going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi EBJ! Congrats on the 69er.. :D

JODI: I may be too tired from that march to swim today.. :D

SHIRLEY: Geez..that's awful! I hope that the doctor gives you something that works quickly!

J/LIN: Dang people can be weird!

DIANNE: I hope everything went smoothly. Get some rest!

VIG: Just two words for you Organic Chocolate. Now don't forget!! :)

TINKA: I hope you are feeling a little better. Love you!

    ReplyDelete
  49. TINA - I guess you can't win at times...it's either stupid questions, or no questions(special needs etc.) when there should be, and everything in between. I used to watch Airline on A&E, filmed at the South West terminals. It certainly kept me amused. They showed an abundance of patience, as do you.

When we admitted patients at the vet hosp in the am for surgery people would leave out important info. I would ask all of the necessary questions, including health (vomiting, diarrhea etc) info and the answer was he/she has been healthy. Then as they were walking out the door I would hear, OH, he/she was throwing up last night, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  50. TINA - Wishing you and your daughter to feel better soon.

BARB - My thoughts and prayers are with you, your son and the rest of the family.

LYNN - I hope your cousins will receive the help they need to feel better. I am sorry things have been so miserable for you.

TINKA - I sure hope you are feeling better. How did TANGO & TIA make out at the Dog Hotel?

I haven't kept up with the blog very well for the last few days. I hope I didn't leave anyone out who needs good wishes, so I send love and hugs to all.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LANI: I watched that show too! Some of the stuff that happened..omg..unbelievable!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi hooters!

I am on hold with Comcast. We had to install some new boxes to get all the cable channels.

Of course, neither box is working right.

So now we have to have them come out to fix it or bring new equipment.

I just watched the video, I had to go to a different computer as my lap top wouldn't play it for some reason.

Never heard DNA explained that way HAHA!! Toooo funny.

Shirley, I feel for ya. 6 weeks, OMG. Are you anemic at all?

A gal I work with is going through something similar to you. Everything they try does not slow her periods.

She is going to ask her Dr. if she can get a hysterectomy. That seems like a reasonable option to me!

Hope everyone is having a nice Monday so far!

    ReplyDelete
  53. ZONA - I know the airline demands that employees be courteous and patent, however, it takes a person with the innate quality of a sense of humor, such as someone like Tina.

    ReplyDelete
  54. SHIRLEY - I went through a bleeding streak also. I can't tell you how many pads & tampons I wore at one time. I won't go into any more detail since this is a public blog. One day I wore a trench coat to a class I was taking at the time, on a very hot day, just in case. I hope you will find help for your problem.

Where is it in the gym manual that working out will produce many pimples all over the parts of the body where the sweat continues to drip, and even tho you wipe the sweat non stop, the sweat continues and the pimples start their process.. Small, red, bigger, sore, white, pop, puss, blood..

All I know is I should have been warned it should have been in my pretty pink contract.. ijs

  70. Here's the RIGHT google answer...

Moderate exercise is actually good for your skin. It helps you maintain a healthy body and manage your stress levels, too. If you find your acne is aggravated by regular exercise, then you may want to examine your routine. What do you wear? Where do you go? How hard do you work? Exercise-related acne is usually caused by something you put on your body rather something you do with it. Remove these outside factors, and you may put an end to your workout breakouts. Here are just a few things to watch for.

    • Acne & Exercise - Make-up. When exercising, wear as little make-up as possible. Even oil-free and non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) cosmetics can clog pores if worn during heavy exercise. When you’re done working out, wash as soon as possible.

    • Acne & Exercise - Sunscreen. If your regimen takes you outdoors, always wear sunscreen. While acne may improve slightly after brief periods in the sun, studies show that prolonged exposure actually promotes comedones (clogged pores) and, of course, sun damage. Some kinds of acne medication make skin more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is even more important. When choosing a sunscreen, look for products that are oil-free and have a protection factor of at least SPF 15 for both UVA and UVB rays. Like make-up, sunscreen can travel across the skin’s surface and lodge in the pores — so wash immediately after working out.

    • Acne & Exercise - Clothing. If you’re prone to body acne, avoid garments made exclusively with lycra or nylon. Why? Some synthetic fabrics can trap the heat and moisture against your skin, creating a fertile breeding ground for the bacteria that contribute to acne. For moderate exercise, your best bet is lightweight, loose-fitting cotton, or a lycra-cotton blend. Natural fabrics allow the skin to breathe, and loose garments are less likely to cause friction. If you’re exercising vigorously and working up a good sweat, however, you may want to try some of the new fabrics designed to wick moisture away from your skin.

    • Acne & Exercise - Equipment. Some people are more likely to get acne or have their lesions aggravated in the areas affected by sports equipment. The best defense against friction-related breakouts is a good fit — make sure your helmet doesn’t slide around on your forehead, or your wetsuit isn’t too tight under the arms. You can also curb equipment-triggered breakouts by lining your helmet with a layer of soft, washable cotton fabric; it’s a great use for those old t-shirts, too. And no matter what the sport, it’s always a good idea to keep your equipment clean and dry when not in use.

    • Acne & Exercise - Moisture. Mom was right: You should get out of those wet clothes! No matter how you get your exercise — treadmill, trail, tennis court, or whatever — don’t sit around in your sweaty clothes or wet bathing suit when you’re done. If you can, shower off immediately and change into dry clothes before driving home. If this isn’t possible, change into dry clothes and wipe down as well as you can. When toweling sweat off your face, always use a clean towel, and blot gently rather than wipe. Vigorous wiping can irritate your skin, driving make-up and sunscreen deeper into the pores.

    • Acne & Exercise - Showering. Again, it’s best to shower immediately after working out. You may want to use a medicated exfoliant cleanser, but always be gentle with your skin. Scrubbing harder isn’t going to make you any cleaner, or make your acne go away — and it may actually irritate existing lesions or promote the development of new ones. If you can’t shower right away, you can still curb breakouts by wiping down with medicated pads; keep a few in your gym bag just in case.
So keep up the good work! A healthy exercise program is an integral part of your overall health; and a healthy body is more likely to have healthy skin. Just keep an eye on the various factors that accompany your regimen, and try to remove the acne triggers — you’ll be on your way to breakout-free workouts.

  88. Hello everyone. I have been a busy little Owl today. I had errands to run, finish packing, and then I had to finish a project for tonight's sorority meeting. Got everything done and am back from the meeting.

Now I have been cracking up at the comments, especially MEK and Carol. And Mary, I love your definition of relative humidity.

  89. Tina, It's hard to believe some people are really that dumb. As a Human Resources Manager, I have had some interesting encounters with stupidity, too. And the amazing thing is, some of the people were running our state.

I really laughed at Jerry's expression because I would have thought nothing would surprise him, but I think this woman did.

I applaud your patience. I bet you sometimes have blisters on your tongue from biting it, just to keep from telling people off, especially when they blame you for something that was so obviously their fault.
