each morning when my mom leaves for work
it is in the very wee hours, it is usually dark out
and the sun is still asleep
she gets picked up each morning as she does not
drive, so she waits in the driveway, smokes her
cigarette and looks up at the dark sky
what she sees is the moon surrounded by stars
and the stars are glistening with a luster she cannot
ignore, it seems each star is reaching out to her and
she grabs on to them my name
she has named them all in her head, names of her
departed siblings, she sees all 7 of them and greets
them with a hello, and a warm smile, see tells them
she remembers it all, from the days of all of them
living in one room, to the days they grazed in
Branch Brook Park, to the days they all married in
our Church, St. Lucy's, her conversation then ends with
"we are 4 left here on this earth, and we will
never forget"
my mom is convinced it is them, as she tells me most
mornings the stars are aligned the same, she said when
the seasons change, the stars shift and then rest once
more in a position that she is familiar with, a position
she can read
when she told me this, i was not surprised at all, i hugged
her and told her, those stars watch over you as you begin
your day, they give you the strength needed to continue
on, as they were unable to do~~
she listened as i spoke, lit a cigarette and took a long drag
and said "they always gave me strength, i would not
think they would stop now"
so in the dark sky with the "Bella Luna" and the bright
stars, the Marciano siblings are looking down, and giving
to my mom what they have also given her in life
"Strength" in numbers!
my tears are real, they are forming, i feel them, i will
let them flow~~
First!

ReplyDeletemorning lynn! I have an Ebay story for you! They canceled my listing because I used the words "like New" in my title. There are 12498 items that come up if you do a search for like new!!!! WTH?
ReplyDeleteAwww Carol what a sweet blog! I always thought my Grandparents were up there twinkling at me!
ReplyDeleteI guess I cleared the room again1
ReplyDeletela de da.....la de da

ReplyDelete9
ReplyDelete10!!!!
ReplyDeletehmmmft! going to get more coffee
ReplyDeleteMorning Scrishy!
ReplyDeleteThis is happening alot on greedbay! It is no longer a level playing field unless you sell thousands a month. Did you try to call? From what I hear it is almost impossible to get a real person to answer any questions as to why? All of those listing you found they will then ask you to report them and do the work that they are paid to do.
Ebay has been involved in several lawsuits in the last few months and it looks like more are headed their way.
Carol: what comes to mind when I read your blog is twinkle twinkle little star....
I think that is wonderful how your Mom sees her family in the stars!
Lynn...I sent them an e-mail and they did just what you said. They asked me to report the others. I don't want to report anyone, I just wanted to know why they picked my listing to cancel out of all the 12498 others. I can even understand their point to a degree, but the listing was for a designer purse and had that little block before the body of the listing which clearly has the word "used" as did the body. I wouldn't be upset if they did it to everyone...but they didn't.
ReplyDeleteGood morning lynn and scirish- congrat on #1st lynn.
ReplyDeleteI always look at the stars and think of it as being a connection to those on earth. I always tell my kids to look at the stars when we talk on the phone- because I will be looking at the same ones. Wherever they are in the world(and the youngest is always somewhere different!) it is a feeling of connection that I have with them.
Hope all you Hooters have a good day.
Scrishy: Don't take it personally they just got hit hard by the courts about counterfeit goods and they are dinging the small sellers with like new in the title if it is a used item. The big guys get away with it all the time.
ReplyDeleteOn a positive note I have been watching their stock this morning and it has dropped $4.00 this morning as their quarterly report came out and all was not sunshine and roses.
Boy that new CEO is doing a great job!
Hey Goldie good morning to you!
LOL at the glee in lynn's 'voice' as she describes the ebay stock losses...
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blog Carol!
I love looking at stars. I like to sit outside on clear, starry nights and see if I can find the big and little dipper.
My dad used to take us out to look at constellations when we were little.
Congrats for being first today Lynn!
Hiya to Scirish and Goldie!
Good morning lynn d, scirish, and goldie.
ReplyDeleteCarol, your blog is so sweet! This blog really got my attention! The night before my dad died I was driving home from visiting him and there were so many stars in the sky that I commented on them. The next morning at 7am I got the call that he died. It was 1990. Well, last week we had a family reunion cruise with my dad's family, 35 of us! I was thinking early one morning as I was sitting on my balcony how my father would have loved this reunion cruise with his family. That night when I got to my room I looked up and saw so many stars and I thought of the night before he died and felt he was out there "seeing" us. Reading your blog I believe this even more. Thank you.
Waving a wing at all owls!!
Good morning ebj! You flew in while I was writing.
ReplyDeletelynn d, congrats on FIRST!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Carol!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I look at stars now I think of my middle child. His nursery was all in stars.
I'm off to the grocery store, I hope everyone has a peaceful day!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Owls
ReplyDeleteCarol beautiful blog.Ty.
I always wish on stars, and they don't have to be falling ones, lol, I pick one and make a wish.
Have a terrific day Owls.

ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning!!
Off to read the blog.
Waving at everybody!
ReplyDeleteIteach: Have fun at the grossery store! Don't forget to stock up on the cheerios for me!
GM: That was a beautiful story about your Dad. I bet he was thrilled you all had your family reunion!
Goldie: Glee no glee! No really. Just glad to see them get a long deserved spanking! LOL
Lovey: I love it when you post! Please post some more!
EBJ: Mr. Lynn D over the years has pointed out the constellations to our kids. He has tried with me but I just look up and see lots of stars! Hopeless!
I look at the stars and it always makes me realize that I am just a mere speck of dust in the universe! They are so beautiful to see!
cpgem - what a beautiful blog today. I have come to appreciate the sky so much more living in AZ. there is a light pollution law (or something like that) and there can be NO street lights, etc. so that the "star gazers" have a CLEAR sky and it is clear!! Since I have quit work - I enjoy the beautiful sunrises and we have the most GORGEOUS sunsets here. I've never seen such beautiful colors.. Heck, I have even found myself laying in a lawn chair in the middle of the night watching the "light shows" that the weatherman tells us about..
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story!!
:-)
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
Lynn D - congrats on first!! -
ReplyDeleteScirish - congrats on second and ten!!
:-)
Good Morning, Goldie, EBJ, GM, Iteach, and Lovey and all others that land!!
Mr. MEK took the day off, so we may go hit a golf ball or two!!
again - have an excellent day!!
Good Morning Owls... and congrats on being first LynnD!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love today's blog. When I was a child, my dad used to take me outside to teach me the constellations (and he would be smoking his cigs too!) My father knew almost every star in the sky because of his job and I was in awe. I dreamed of being the first female in space. I always wondered who else was out there gazing back at us.
Two winters ago there was a giant power outage in the NW and we had no electricity for about a week. I will never forget how incredibly bright the stars were without any other light to fade their brilliance.
Now when I gaze up at the sky, I look for my favorite stars and know that my dad is winking back at me.
Zona~ I meant to add that your photo of the clouds is really beautiful. It can be difficult to take a really good photo of the sky, but that one is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHope you all have a fun day!
Happy Thong Thursday Owls.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love the blog today. When I was in Hawaii we booked a tour that took us up Mauna Kea. The top is 14,000 feet up and the stars from there are magnificent. They look HUGE. Then we went down to 9,000 feet to do stargazing through a telescope and our tour guide explained how new stars pop up every day. I think those new stars are our loved ones looking out for us. Thanks for sharing your Mom's stargazing experience with us.
LynnD: Thanks so much for sending me a copy of Inlaws and Outlaws. I really enjoyed watching the whole film after seeing the clip on the blog. You are such a kind and generous soul. I will gladly send it on to the next Owl. I saw your status on MS this morning and I hope things are better for you.
MEK: Have fun golfing today.
Scirish: I hope the sale of the house goes through.
Waving a wing at Goldie, EBJ, Grandma Moses, Iteach, Lovey and all who land after me.
Carol, we all need a good cry sometimes. So beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteI remember the clear skys in Hawaii. There seemed to be so many more stars showing up there. You felt like you could just reach out and touch them. As a kid I remember how the neighbor boy and I used to sit out in the middle of our cul-de-sac and watch the stars late at night. I miss those innocent times.
Mornin'!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Lynn on being first this morning.
Beautiful blog today, Carol. When I was a child living in So. Calif., I remember laying on my back on the front lawn and gazing up at the stars. It was always so exciting to spot a shooting star. As an adult, I have gone outside at around 3 a.m. in order to see a meteor shower. Really spectacular!
I miss Tinka!
ReplyDeleteIn his introduction to his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, the late Arthur C. Clarke noted that about 100 billion human beings have walked our planet since the "whole rigamarole began". By a curious coincidence (his words), there are approximately 100 billion stars in our Milky Way Galaxy.
ReplyDeleteSo for every person who's ever lived, there shines a star.
Good afternoon everyone!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st Lynn D!!
Thanks Carol for sharing your mother's thoughts with us today.
Sometimes I look at the stars and wish I could get swept away and lost in them.
Wow- its a quiet afternoon in the nest. Hope everyone is out doing something fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley, looks like you were the last one in and that was an hour ago!
Guess I am going to have to bake some brownies and get this party started!!
Goldie, do you put frosting on your brownies?
ReplyDelete40 for Tinka!
ReplyDeleteI just woke up from my afternoon and it was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI just love watching my little ones sleep, their monster faces disappear. :)
Have you ever heard of this song-
ReplyDeleteThere's a thousand stars in the sky
That make me realize
You are my true one
The one that I adore
Tell me you love me
Tell me your mine ... once more.
It came out in the late 1950's, it is one of favorites.
It was on my parent's 8-track and I played it all the time.
I think the sing Kathy and the something.
Scirish,
ReplyDeleteIs it done deal with your mom's house?

I went to Coldstone Creamery today with my Aunt to get my "free birthday ice cream"! lol..2 days early, but still;)
I chose the cheesecake ice cream with graham cracker crumbs, blueberries, and strawberries! YUM!!
Here are the song lyrics:
A thousand stars in the sky like the stars in your eyes
They say to me that therell never be
No other love like you-oo for me-e-e
A thousand stars in the sky make me realize
You are the one love that Ill adore
Tell me you love me
Tell me youre mine once more (once more, once mo-o-ore)
Each night I count the stars in the sky
Hoping that you arent telling me lies
Youre with me tonight, Im captured by your charms
Oh, pretty baby, wont you hold me in your arms?
A thousand stars in the sky make me realize
You are the one love that Ill adore
Tell me you love me
Tell me youre mine once more (once more, once mo-o-ore)
Each night I count the stars in the sky
Hoping that you arent telling me lies
Youre with me tonight, Im captured by your charms
Oh, pretty baby, wont you hold me in your arms?
A thousand stars in the sky make me realize
You are the one love that Ill adore
Tell me you love me
Tell me youre mine once mo-o-re (I-I-Im yours)

ReplyDeleteHow old will you be this year, Mr. Joey?
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious!! My Aunt went next door and got a hot starbucks coffee! lol
ReplyDeleteOh, this is rather funny..It wasn't "quite free" because printer at home not working...went to Kinko's right next door to Cold Stone, and they charged 20 cent per minute on the computer to get the coupon out of my email and then 49 cents for the print!! haha
But, the funny thing is, I had it in a separate folder and went right to it..so .73 cents for my FREE ice cream! lol..Not bad when they costs about $3.50!!

Glynis Great march! You're becoming an expert!
ReplyDeleteJoey Take it from me, you're still a young man. :)

ReplyDeleteJoey~ You are too funny. Boy toys! I won't tell, but it's out there now and we have witnesses.
Is it Friday YET?
Dean and I are going to the movies this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat is there good to see?
Iteach the new "Get Smart" was hilarious my sister said. What about the new Batman movie?
ReplyDeleteIteach there doesn't seem to be any romantic movies out right now. Just action and comedies. That's all I could find. Don't know if that helps you or not.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I just got back from watching "Wicked". I love matinees. There is still plenty of day left. Our County Fair starts tonight so I may head that way soon. I should stay home since it is still 89` out! That may not seem hot to you westerners, but that is hot here!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I loved the way you wrote todays blog! I was touching.
Whabbear, you gave me the chills!
Tinka, hurry back lady!
Glynis, Thanks for the tagged postcard! I haven't figured that part out yet. I want to change my background in myspace, can't remember if I have to delete the old one first.
Jodi~ How are you today? Should I send my friend Don over to give you a massage? He's good!
iteach & Scirish, I remember that song, loved it!!...only I thought it was " A thousand stars in your eyes" lol!
Carol, OMG,honestly I wasn't "touching" anything! lol. I hope you know I meant "I was "touched"
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley, I really want to go to the new Batman movie.
ReplyDeleteHI EVERYONE from hot, humid oh..and HOT AZ! I know I said I wasn't going to complain about it anymore..but it's 109 and miserable here. Tomorrow it's supposed to hit 112. yuck.
ReplyDeleteCPGEM: I thought your blog had such a beautiful message. When my dad passed away, I always looked at rainbows as being my smile from him. With mom it was the stars. On the night she died, I went outside and looked at the sky for hours. I let the tears flow as I imagined that one of the stars I was looking at, was her looking back at me. It was such a serene and comforting thought. When I saw a shooting star, just as I was turning to go inside...I somehow knew she was letting me know she was all right.
Thanks again CPGEM, for a wonderful blog.
Hi Zona!!!
ReplyDeleteZona, you are not complaining!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going for a walk in the park, does anyone want to come with me?
Be back later probably hot and sweaty.
ReplyDeleteLynnD & Scirish, this is what was in our paper today. "EBay earnings climb 22% in second-quarter". including pay pal.Says they earned $460 million. Sounds like a lot, but 35 cents a share wouldn't make me rich!
ReplyDeleteJoey told his age? It must have been the brownies! HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Virgo too- 9/8
You guys make me feel old with remembering your parents 8 tracks- I remember MINE!
Jodi- hope the back is better
Scirish- hope the house is a done deal
iteach- were you able to get an earlier appt with the dr.?
Mama Mia! is out starting tomorrow, my girlfirend asked me to go but its a 10:00 am show and I have to work in the morning ;(
MEK- come back and play
Where is Susan? I miss her and I don't seem to know or remember why she is AWOL, can someone enlighten me?
iteach~ I'll walk with you.... See who hits the showers first!
ReplyDeleteOOPS I thanked the wrong owl for the post card! Sorry Bono, I get 30 lashings with a wet noodle (cuz I bruise easy lol)
ReplyDelete120 just cuzzz
ReplyDeleteHi All! Beautiful blog Carol. I really love watching the night sky. The moon last night was incredible, but SO low on the horizon I almost missed it. Can't wait to see it even more full tonight/tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGM~~Glad you're didn't have to battle Bertha and are safely back in the nest.
Iteach~~Thanks for missin' me! I'm just trying to soak up all the Summer I can while the temps are reasonable and before it's gone.
Scirish~~Hoping for great news soon!
Mary/MI, aka Popsicle Toes~~ What self-respecting pasta lover would waste a perfectly good wet noodle? I have Alfredo Sauce!
Back out into the real world. Don't forget to check the sky for all our relatives tonight!
GM~~Should be "glad YOU didn't...". I think I started with "Glad YOU'RE back" and got lost! :o)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteok, no one is here.I made a decision,I'm going to our small local park,go up & down the 88 steps, meet Mr Mary for a cold beer at the VFW, and then go home.
ReplyDeleteLater peeps....
That was me who deleted post. I messed up on spelling.
ReplyDeleteIt read " Bono, are you trying to take over Tinaho-crackhos tongue lashings/ LOL!"
I'm gonna tell.....
Hi Everyone!
ReplyDeleteCarol...what a sweet blog. I love how you tell a story. When I was a pre-schooler, my grandparents lived on an apple orchard in the country (now practically downtown) near my hometown. There was no light pollution so the sky was dark and the stars were brilliant. In my four year old mind, the crickets that were chirping and the frogs that were ribbiting were in fact the sound of the stars twinkling.
I have had a long day at work and on my way home when I stopped to get some groceries. The movie "Rent" was on sale so I bought it. I am so excited...I love the music! So off I go to eat dinner and sing my heart out...
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
Hi Everyone!
ReplyDeleteLynnd:
Congrats on First!
GMoses:
Welcome back! You were missed...
Mek:
Are you still rearranging? :O)
Goldie:
IBB had some health issues, I think she is taking care of herself...
Joey:
You will always be a "kid" to me
:O
Tinka:
Hope you are well, and you are missed...
Bon:
Yes, we need to soak in the outdoors as much as possible, its good for the soul :O)
Zona:
Thank you ever so much for allowing me to use your picture for my blog today, I loved the way the sky opened just enough to let the sun in, it gave me the thought of all our loved ones up there, and they are peaking thru to see us, including your dear Mom with whom I share a name... ♥♥♥
Mary:
ReplyDeleteYou gave me my first smile today!
Touching...LOL...
And for the record you can touch whenever you want!
Tina:
Aloha! Enjoy!
Vig:
ReplyDeleteI love that song, I must use it for one of our Sunday Music Videos...
Sorry you had a long day at work, I know the feeling. Relax tonite and enjoy your movie...
LynnD:
ReplyDeleteI got the dvd's in the mail today, which is perfect timing, cause the weekend is here, so I will be able to watch them very soon...
Thank You...
I will let you know when I am done watching them, so then I can pass them along...
Thank you Carol- I hope she is ok.
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful time in the park and I had a great walk.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the mother of Dean's oldest daughter just left a mean message on our answering machine.
Ughhhhhhhhhhh!
My nephew did not make it into law school, he needed a 2.3 and he got a 2.1
ReplyDeleteWhen I spoke to him, he sounded ok, he is just going to "make a left instead of a right" those were his words.
I feel bad for him as he so wanted this so badly, however he insists he is going to go to law school, as it is just going to take him a little longer than most...
I believe in him, he is strong, he will get thru...♥♥♥
Iteach: Mama Mia opens tomorrow too, but it's probably not a guy's movie.
ReplyDeleteZona: Your comment brought tears to my eyes...so touching
Goldie: I remember our 8 track too. My Hubby had a '56 Chevy Pick-up that my oldest son has now and he put an 8 track player in it. It still works too, but we only had one tape left. It's an Eagles tape. LOL
Mary: I was hoping Wicked would be on our series this year, but it isn't. Maybe next year.
Bon'O: Enjoy the mild weather. It was a beautiful 88 here today and we have blue sky again.
Carol: Joy Behar made an Italian cheesecake for the View today and the recipe is posted on their web site. It looked just like my Mom (and probably yours) made.
Evening OWLS
ReplyDeleteDo I smell Goldie's brownies baking??
Jodi I hope you're feeling better after your appointment today.
(( LynnD))Ty,SWAK!
Tina,Have a fantastic vacay..how could u not, you're in paradise!!:o)
GM welcome back!
Shout outs to all Owls. Hope you're all having a wonderful evening.
I'm hooked on the Reba Tribute show on CMT tonight.
I'm laughing and crying at the sametime.
Big Hugs xox
SacBarb~~I'm so glad you finally have some 'good' air to breathe.
ReplyDeleteTemps are upper 80's here, too. No complaints, except I sure wish it would rain a bit. We were at 29" for the year as of mid-April, and still haven't hit 30". Under 2/10" in both May & June, and nothing so far for July.
I keep begging MEK to send one of the monsoons they don't need our way, but I guess she hasn't gotten to that part of her To-Do list yet!
Bon'O; We could use some rain also. We are way under for the year and it would help put the fires out as long as no lightning came with it.
ReplyDeleteI am watching the Great American Dog. One of the women dresses her dog like herself and the judges told her it's not good to put clothes on her dog. I cracked up.
SacBARB my babies
ReplyDelete( and I )
LOVE that show. LMAO.
I took a pic of them watching.
They were glued to the TV.
I posted the pic in my album on MS.
To the owls that welcomed me back ~ thank you! I am happy to be back.
ReplyDeleteBon'o, we only had a few hours of rough water when we left Bermuda on Friday ~ it was not bad at all. TY
sac barb, I am going to look up the recipe, ty! Why is it not good to dress dogs? lol
Good night owls!
ZONA~~God BLESS you!! I feel better already just looking at the comments you sent.
ReplyDeleteMy girlfriend Rhonda and I have already made plans to see Momma Mia on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteDean said no to that one a long time ago.
Sandie I sure do hope your day went better.
Mary, I thought of you when I did my walk, I pretended you were right next to me. :)
Carol: Your nephew came too close not to succeed!
ReplyDeleteand.. you're got mail!
Did MEK get lost on the golf course?
ReplyDeleteJust kidding!
She probably found something fun to do.
Whabby:
ReplyDeleteSuch nice words, Thank You!
I got your e-mail, and replied to you via myspace, so you have myspace mail!
:O)
iteach:
ReplyDeleteMek lost on the golf course...lol
Goldie:
You are welcome, and I hope she is ok as well...
Sacbarb:
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it was the same cheesecake? I will check it out!!
Btw..I never sent you the recipe, I forgot all about it....I will do it this weekend...Sorry!
:O)
I am off to bed....
ReplyDeleteGood nite!
:O)
Mek:
If you are lost, just follow the course till you find the nest! :O)
sad news. one of my hubby's interns died today. she was only 20-21 years old. he said she went to get a drink of water at work this morning and she fainted. so they called 911 and they took her to the hospital. she was talking and everything when they came and got her, but i guess she had a blood clot go into her lungs and she died. poor things parents didn't make it in time from Bend, OR to be with her. she did have her sister and grandmother with her. very sad. hubby is so upset over this. i'm not one to usually ask for prayers, but any prayers or good thoughts for her family would be appreciated.
ReplyDeletesorry to be a downer. just had to get it out.
BarbWA~~So incredibly sad. Heartfelt condolences to all. WOW, whatever our life is, we had best appreciate it, no?
ReplyDeleteLovey: The judge that made fun of the one woman who was yipping at her dog cracked me up too. I'm so glad she did that cause she was getting on my last nerve and I'm sure her dog's too. I really felt sorry for her dog. I'm glad they gave her the boot too.
ReplyDeleteGrandma Moses: The judge said that dogs communicate through their body language and scent and clothes hinders that. Also, they were judging grooming and she put a dress on her dog and all they could see was her head and tail. She argued with the judges too...that wasn't good.
Carol: I don't have my Mom's recipe so I don't know if it is the same, but it looked the same.
Barb/WA: So sad...will pray for the family
Hey, that was 150 - Yay for me
ReplyDeleteWait, Joey revealed his age,,,,,,,noooooo!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Want.
ReplyDeleteHi Sac Barb ! How are you?
ReplyDeleteWant: I'm Ok. How about you?
ReplyDeleteI can't sleep, I think I'm turning into an owl.

Hey Mek!
ReplyDeleteWhy do they take pictures for an appraisal?
Old Navy's shipping went up to $7, Yuck!

ReplyDeleteI hope it comes this time around.
Hey Iteach and MEK
ReplyDeleteMEK: did you play golf today?
Iteach - now I have a vision of Jodi getting up in the middle of the night to pee - thank you !!LOL
ReplyDeletewant - I believe they take pictures for their report to show value, etc. - she took pics of the front of the house from the curb and the back yard...... and I just about crapped when she took a picture of the family room - I had the wii fit on the coffee table, along with K.C.'s food bowl (that is the only place she can eat in peace) and the dog beds on the floor ....... I said - YIKES, you said, kitchen, living room and bathroom - she responded that my house looked like a model home and I had NOTHING to worry about - she showed me the pic and it didn't look too bad.... oh well...
I tell ya - the craft area will have to wait until I get back!!
:-)
Hey Want: What are you getting the nuns to do???
ReplyDeleteVery interesting Mek. No one has ever taken pictures for an appraisal at my house. (thank goodness,,lol)
