Summer Fruit

by Ibb

What is your favorite summer fruit?????

I have 2.... Peaches and Cherries....
I am headed to the orchard for some fresh peaches...
It is the best time of year....
If I had access to this fresh fruit all year long...
I might be able to stick to a diet!!!
But there is just something about picking your own fruit!!!

  1. Good morning,

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIG.
May your day be as special as you.

ibb, great blog and one of my favorite summer things.

My favorite fruits are homegrown big ole juicy red tomatoes. Actually, I think I could just live off of them

My second favorite fruit is watermelon. Oh my goodness!
I just wonder what has happened to the Black Diamond melons that are dark green, don't see them much anymore.

Hope everyone has a grest friday.

IBB, great blog! I, of course, love GEORGIA PEACHES!! They are so awesome. Actually, just about any kind of fruit is good to me!

Hi Tina, have a nice rest.

Hi iteach, you're right about the cheaper part!

    Have a great day everyone!

The carpet cleaner is here cleaning the upstairs where my college son lives in the summer--boy did he make a mess! And the couch . . . why are my boys such slobs when I'm a neat freak??? I guess I answered my own question. LOL

  5. Morning Glories!

    Ronnie conrats on first!!!

My favorite summer fruits are watermelon and raspberries!! blackberries too!

Like Ronnie and Tina love a fresh grown tomato and it looks like our house will have an over abundance this year if they ever get ripe.

My favorite summer veggie is fresh corn on the cob! Yum

    Good Morning Tina and iteach!

    Ibb fun blog!

If you take a cup to a cup and 1/2 of raspberries with a blender full of ice and then add a cup of apple juice, then blend real well. You will have the best raspberry smoothy ever!

    VIG!!!! Happy Happy Birthday!

Tina, my chicken ass is here now!
I HAD to get out of the house yesterday! Walls were closing in on me.

I think my fav fruit is watermelon...second grapes.
I used to love canloupe, but last year it seemed everyone i bought had a bad taste. So now I'm turned off by it. I may try it now and again, but I always remember that nasty taste and never finish it.

    Already downed some Excederin.

  12. Happy Friday Owls.

IBB, The neighbors behind me have a big cherry tree and one of the branches grows over my back fence. I look forward to picking all of 'my' cherries in May every year. I really have to watch the tree and get to the cherries before the birds.

    Ronnie, Congrats on #1.

Good morning Tina, VIG (Happy Birthday), Iteach, Sandie, Lynn D. (raspberry smoothie, yummm), Birdee, Donna Hart, and everyone else who flies in later.

    I'm off to Church. BBL

  13. Good morning Tinka, you flew in while I was typing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good Morning SacBarb - I thought I saw you peeking through the branches.

IBB - Thank you for writing the blog.
Summer fruit - I live for it and on it all summer long. The local fruit tastes so much better, especially the strawberries. The local berries have a much high sugar content and they are softer. You can crush them with a spoon. Berries that are imported have been produced somehow with lower sugar content so that their shelf life is much longer. It's best to eat our strawberries within a day of picking. They are oh so good. We always grew our own when the kids were little. Nothing feels better than going to your own little strawberry patch and picking just enough berries to go on your cereal; nothing tastes better either.
We also have local raspberries and they are fantastic. In August, we get our cherries next and then peaches from the interior of B.C. There is nothing like an Okanagan peach. I love blueberries too. They are famous in Nova Scotia. I remember picking them when I was little. They were larger than the ones we grow here. Last of the season is blackberries. They grow everywhere including the sides of the road. It's a familiar sight to see blackberry pickers with their little buckets, in the parks and along side the roads . We had our own raspberries and blackberries until I subdivided my property. I don't miss the blackberry bushes. They have so many thorns and grow like weeds.

My daughter has won many first and second prizes at our local fair for the jams and jellies she has made with our local fruit.

I must go have my cereal with my fresh blueberries right now. I have made myself hungry.
Good Morning to every owl who flies in after I leave.

  15. Great blog topic IBB!

    Congrats on 1st Ronnie!

Good morning/afternoon Tina, Iteach, Sandie, Lynn D, Birdee, Hartldo, Tinka and SacBarb.

My favorite summertime fruit is watermelon. Put a bowl of cut up watermelon in the freezer and it's an excellent treat on a hot day. I also like blueberries. I have a friend who is going to pick me some. I hate picking berries.

Happy Birthday VIG!!! You share this day with my Dad who would have been 89 today. I miss him very much.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ***HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VIG!*!*!

and happy memories of Dad, Shirley. How 'bout sitting in the shade by the river today?

IBB~~Ah, the Fruits of Summer! I'm with Ronnie. There's just nothing better than a warm-off-the-vine homegrown tomato! Whether a big ole 'beefsteak' (Caprese Salad--yummo!)or a tiny yellow one-bite mouthburst. Fantastic!

Other summer faves: Canteloupe (with salt & pepper!), giant strawberries, wild blackberries, pluots, and--second only to tomatoes--late-Summer Italian plums that twist cleanly off the pit and are SO sweet. The first signal that Autumn is on its way!

    **splitting post**

IBB - great blog - you know how much I love a good peach - sliced with a tiny sprinkle of sugar on them... - and watermelon!! YUMMY!!! (you should have told the story about us looking for peaches last year!! LOL)...

    AND from last night's conversation

did anyone watching the women's gymnastics happen to notice ALL the people in the blue coats with

    B O B

on the back of them - I was cracking up the whole time!!

Mr. MEK and I are off to hit some golf balls... (hoping the sky clears up - it's really overcast here)...

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!

  19. Tinka: I had cereal w/blueberries on top, too, this morning! Mmmmmm! I had blueberries in some strawberry/banana yogurt last night. What a filling treat! Fruit really helps me with my diet, because I'm a sugar addict. I'd still rather have a donut, but I'm training my body to like fruit more.

  20. Hello everyone who has come in this morning!
You're right bon'o! The Olympics is REAL reality TV!
Hope your headache is better birdee.

  21. Happy Friday Morning Everyone!

Greetings from beautiful Foggy San Francisco Kaiser Hospital!

First off, I must thank each and every one for all the support, love, prayers and words of encouragement you have given to both Laurie Elizabeth and myself!

Thank you SACBARB for posting for me yesterday. I thought I could post myself, but it was too difficult.

Laurie's pacemaker is doing well, and she is complaining of some arm pain, but that is to be expected. What was the hardest part was finding a vein for the IV!! It took WAY TOO LONG to find one, and I had to be called to go down and comfort Laurie in the OR! They finally were able to put it in her foot, which is causing some trouble, because she is not supposed to step down and maybe dislodge the IV (God Forbid)so toileting has been a bit troublesome.

We will go home today, in a few hours. She has been such a trooper! So brave and strong! Now, though comes the hard part, going home and having to deal with things without the nurses help! But we are so ready!

DIANNE~ I am so sorry Tammy is experiencing such tummy troubles and pain after her surgery. I am sending (((HUGS))) and positive thoughts that the results will come back positive. (a good positive) Those words Negative and Positive in medical language are so confusing! I mean I want negative problems, and a positive outlook!

Congrats to RONNIEGIRL on #1 Today!

VIG~ I hope your special day is wonderful!

Wonderful Blog today IBB! You are making me so hungry, and here I am stuck with Hospital Cafeteria food!

Actually, the ONLY thing I like about summer is the fantastic produce we have. Sweet Corn, Tomatoes (Heirloom, my favorite)fresh grren beans, zuchini, yellow squash, you name it we LOVE it! Laurie is not much of a fruit eater, but loves watermelon and strawberrries. I am really liking the newer varieties of white peaches and nectarines, delicious!

I love going to the local Farmer's Market and seeing what is available. I always end up buying too much, cause it all looks so good!

Well, Miss Laurie is calling me, and complaining of pain and saying she needs some help, so I must go.

I changed my Avatar to Laurie, here in the hospital yesterday.

And to those who sent me personal emails, I will answer them either later today or tomorrow, I promise! It means so much to have such good cyber friends! And I am sure Laurie and I will be able to meet some of you at EBJ's BABBQ!

    Peace and Love to All,
    Donna Jean and Laurie Elizabeth

  22. ((((HUGS))))) to Donna Jean! Tell Laurie Elizabeth that she looks GREAT in her hospital bed!!! Hope she feels better very soon.

  23. Flying in to say hi and bye!

  25. Good morning, Owls.

VIG Happy Birthday! I hope you have a marvelous day.

Ronnie Congrats on being first in the nest today.

IBB Great topic today. Thank you.

I love, love, love tomatoes. Store bought ones tasted much better when I was a kid. For a snack, I used to salt them and eat them like an apple. Other than that, I never thought I cared for fruit. I have been changing my mind recently, though. A lot of that has to do with shopping at the farmer's market and getting fruit that actually is ripe and not picked way too soon, which is often the case in the gross-ry stores. Lately I've really been enjoying plums and nectarines. They are so juicy that I stand leaning over the kitchen sink when I eat them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. DonnJean thank you so much for the update!

My Philip was in the hospital when he was four months and they had to put the IV in his bald head!

    ReplyDelete
  27. DonnaJean So glad everything is going well for Laurie Elizabeth. She looks great in that picture! It's like a glamour shot.

Dianne_waiting_in_Denver Still keeping you and Tammy in my thoughts. Hoping with all my heart that you get good news from the doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like most fruits including berries (with the combination of strawberries and blueberries as my fav), melons, Fuji apples (which are very sweet), bananas, peaches and plums to name a few.
I only dislike pineapples. I find them to be always a tad bitter.

    Gotta run.Heavy day!

    ReplyDelete
  29. DonnaJean
So wonderful to hear that all is well with Laurie!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Donna Jean - I am so happy Laurie is doing so well. It will be a hard week for you and Laurie but please know our prayers are still with you.

Dianne - Thank you for the letter. We are all waiting for that good report on Monday, or maybe sooner.

    ReplyDelete
  31. WOW, If Laurie Elizabeth feels half as good as she looks today, she's doing GREAT!

OK, IBB~~It's all YOUR fault. Just back from the market, with fresh corn on the cob, green beans, tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, cilantro, avacado, mangos, strawberries, bananas.....And since I always have frozen blueberries on hand (a cup a day keeps the dr. away!), we're set. Let's do lunch!

    ReplyDelete
  32. With apologies in advance for bein' a blog hog, I just HAVE to share this. I've said here before how I'm often grateful for bad things that DON'T happen. Well,...

Before going 'grossery' shopping I made a quick run to the RiteAid to grab a bargain for the kitties. As always, I took my own canvas bag.

Thought my leather purse (with my wallet, checkbook, and ever-present camera inside, of course) was INSIDE the big canvas bag...until I got home! Went racing back, without even entering the house first, prepared for the worst, but hoping I might have (think heat stroke here) left it at the checkout. Actually, I had left it in the cart, outside...in a strip mall... across the street from a high-school. How dumb am I? Went inside, walked up to my checker, she handed it over, with ALL contents intact!! An unknown good Samaritan had turned it in.

Which just shows-to-go-ya, there ARE good people...and since I'm a firm believer in KARMA, as Maria sang to Captain VonTrapp:

    "Nothing comes from nothing~~
    Nothing ever could,
So somewhere in my youth or childhood~~
I must have done something good!"

    ReplyDelete
  33. BonO How wonderful that you got your purse back! What a pain in the butt it would be to lose all the stuff in my purse. It makes me shudder to think of it. I once stopped a woman who was driving around with her purse on top of her car! LOL Oh, and by the way, I'll be stopping in for lunch. It all sounds delicious.

    ReplyDelete
  34. JustLin~~Come on up~~~And btw, just last night I was leaning over the kitchen sink drooling nectarine and pluot juice! Is there another way?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good Afternoon,

My favorite Summer fruit is Watermelon, Strawberries, Blueberries, I love em all.

Good thoughts to Laurie Elizabeth, and Dianne and her daughter.

On yesterdays topic of voluntering your time, I do teach religious Education, this year it will be for 2nd grade, I teach my younger son Victor and I have about 12 kids in my class, I enjoy that, especially the younger ones.

I want to thank Dreama for such a beautiful shoutout for giving my time to my sons and my mother. But remember Dreama you do the same for your parents, as we all do. Yes I do give things up to take care of her. I have to drive her to all her appointments. I know a lot of us do the same. But my mom is a very special lady, she was very giving of herself, in aspects, especially to the Church. She was very active in our Parish when we were growing up. She had many volunteer ministries. The best one she said was a Stephen Minister, it was the saddest, but she did enjoy it, she spent a lot of time with terminally ill people, and just let them talk about all the good things they did in their lives. Again Thank you Dreama for the special shout out. Your such a special person.

Birdee, Jax & Sandie, Thank you for listening to my whining and giving your time to read my Chapter book emails to you guys. You gave me a lot of good and knowledable advice.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OMG BONO, I am so glad you found your purse and that someone turned it in. I can't even begin to think about my purse ordeal last December....it still makes me furious at myself!!!

Well, kids are at school, husband and sil are at work and Tammy is sleeping. She is still throwing up this morning and had a fever. She seems to have cooled down and ate another grilled cheese sandwich and so far-so good!! She thinks she wants egg drop soup and chicken fried rice for dinner so the Chinese was just delivered for all of us for dinner. I like to order it on the lunch menu as it costs so much less and you still get the same thing!

It is so nice weather-wise here. It is about 58 and raining..first day like this all summer and I love it (Jennifer, you need to come and visit right now--your kind of weather)!

DONNAJEAN: I am glad Laurie is doing better. I hope the move from the hospital to home goes smoothly.

    ReplyDelete
  37. IBB: I think my favorite summertime fruit is a gorgeous bear named Jerry who I only every see at Lazy Bear Weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  38. BEAR: I have never heard of your favorite but I forgot to say mine is watermellon! How are you anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi hooters!

TGIF! Congrats Ronnie on being first today!

IBB I love fruit, and very fortunate to live only a few miles from lots of orchards. There are quite a few stands near here, where the local farmers sell their just-picked fruits and veggies.

Some of them will let you pick your own.

My favorites have to be cherries and watermelon. Shirley, I am going to try your frozen watermelon suggestion, that sounds so yummy, and refreshing!

DJ glad that Laurie is doing well and you are going home. Looking forward to meeting you, just 2 weeks from tomorrow!

Bono glad you got your wallet back!

Dianne, still sending positive thoughts to your Tammy.

Tina how did the driving test go??

Paula the kitty had her lab tests done yesterday to check her kidney function. I am happy to report that her tests are improved, and her kidneys are functioning at almost normal level now! High normal, but that's good enough for me.

    HAPPY B-DAY TO VIG!!!!!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  40. Oh, bon'o, your story about your purse is a wonderful example of the kindness of strangers. Loved your song selection too. My favorite movie!!!

  41. It's a lazy day on the blog today. I think everyone is just lying around eating his/her favourite fruit. I just got up from my nap and that's all I feel like eating. It's hot here today and that is unusual.

EBJ - I am so glad Paula is doing better.

    Bon'O - That's great about your purse.

Whabbear - LOL @ your favourite fruit. What am I going to do with you ?

Tomorrow is Aug. 16th so I am changing all my play list back to Elvis.

VIG - Hope you are having a restful time at the Hot Springs.

    See you all later.

  42. Hi, Dianne!

How am I doing? Well, I've got a bit of a tension headache this afternoon. Things here at work are getting a little frantic, as we try to coordinate astronaut trips to Ames to test their ability to read displays and work with user interface devices while being spun and vibrated in our centrifuge facility.

I'll bet you're sorry you asked! LOL!

Tink: What are you going to do with me? Well, how about setting things up so I can lie around eating my favorite summer fruit?

Renee, I see you! You are such a giving person and your notes always make me smile--I never mind reading them. Have a wonderful vacation with your hubby home!

    Hurry home.

Whabbear - I will get things set into motion so that you can spend your summer sitting around eating your favourite fruit.

Carol - I got your mail thank you.

Birdee - When you hit the big time, are you taking all of your friends from the nest to paradise?

It's 88 degress, far too hot to do anything but sit around. I can feel things being thrown at me by people who live in hotter spots than this.

cpgem - I'm glad you got to see the replay of last night's gymnastics... AMAZING is right!!

I'm sure there are SO many more things I am forgetting..

we just got back from the grocery store - had to get some FRUIT!! the peaches looked AMAZING and should be ready to eat very soon!!!!

  70. Remember MEK..don't forget no beans and a lot of lettuce!!
IBB: You made me smile. I haven't heard a purse called a hand bag since my grandmother (who was from NY).
My granddaughter and I just had a bet on if a tomato was a fruit and I said no. She pulled the info off google and won the bet..little smarty pants!!
TINK: Be careful what you tell BEAR you will do for him...it could get you in big trouble!
It is so nice here..50's and still light rain Did I ever say that I love this weather??

No calls from the Dr and Tammy is still sleeping but not sick to her tummy as much.

    Time for swimming....on the Olympics.

    BTW, where are you ZONA?

  71. Carol, Bunko is a dice game. There are 12 players (3 tables of 4 players). It's lots of fun and you can win a prize! Of course, the game matters much less than the fun time spent with a bunch of crazy women! We play once a month.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Dianne~~Excellent that Tammy's getting some rest. Let us know when you get the GOOD news.

Now, having said that, enough already about your blissful weather (j/k)! We finally dropped from 95 to 85 in the last hour or so. I was just on MS telling an Owl there that, at evening news time, the Weather guy was on the midway at the County Fair where the UNofficial temp on the midway was 117!

Thank you guys for sharing my tremendous relief after my 'How dumb am I?' incident today. Almost didn't mention it, but people can still be AMAZING in a good way, can't they?

Confession: Olympics have barely started here, but I couldn't wait. Had to peek.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks, IBB, MEK, and Shirley!

Dianne: Glad to hear Tammy's not in as much discomfort tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  74. MEK, Carol and Bon'O: We're watching the Olympics with my erstwhile bro and sis in law, because their power went out. Unlike Carol, though, we've been complaining vociferously about NBC putting all that time into replaying the gymnastics from last night! LOL! With all the events that don't get any coverage, they serve up reruns!

    Anybody else watching right now?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh... and I know it's a little early in the evening for this observation, but don't you owls love crotch-watching the track and field events?

    Oh, my!

    ReplyDelete
  98. OMG I typed 6 in a row..well now 7 lol

    ReplyDelete
  99. MEK, I can't believe you said that either. Giving Joey and Whabby more ammunition.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Dang Bear, see how you are? Now I realize I shouldn't have deleted what was the the last sentence of my last post (thought better of it) which in effect was asking my fellow Owlettes if they, too, had noticed you seem to be quite 'focused' (some might say 'anal') the past couple days. ;-D~

and then there's our dear Joey...love the new outfit, babe!

Sorry, the track guys don't do it for me....but I do wish the NBA would go back to short shorts. I stopped watching when they switched to the split-skirts they wear now!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi Joey!

As a kid, my friend and I would play in the orange groves in So. Calif. How many of you know what a smudge pot is?

    ReplyDelete
  102. BonO LOL @ split skirts. I agree. It's much more pleasant to see those thigh muscles.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hey JL! Never heard of it!!

I can cheat and google it lol

    Thanks BONO!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Um, Joey, sorry, but I think your new owl looks like he's pissed off. :(

I like your blue potato chip owl.

    ReplyDelete
  108. SacBarb~~Great lashes! Is that zinc oxide on your nose? Good for you...no sunburn.

I gotta back up and see how we got on smudge-pots (trying to watch Dalhausser play beach volleyball, speaking of tall guys in shorts!). I know from smudge-pots, living in orchard country.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Bono - lol at split skirts - I vote for shorter shorts...

AND - why do the women's beach volleyball have to be almost nekid?

and - the women's track uniforms get smaller and smaller also!!

    oh well......

west coast - get ready for SWIMMING!!!!!

I'm going to get to bed earlier tonight..

    good night everyone...

I hope everyone has an excellent Saturday!!!
    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Um, regarding the swimming, AMAZING!

    ReplyDelete
  111. BonO I went from the TOTD to orange groves to smudge pots. :)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Bon'O, I was watching swimming. OK, we'll call it zinc oxide.

MEK, Last night they talked about the uniforms for beach volleyball and the rules state that the women must wear either a one piece or two piece swim suit and the men wear shorts and tank tops. They also said they have never seen a women's team wear a one piece suit. They didn't know WHY that was in the rules, however.

Good night and sweet dreams MEK.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I am watching a new obsession! TLC's "Rock the Reception"! This show is so cool!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. LOL@you all!

MEK: Marty and Michael say to wave back! They were wondering if you're planning to attend this year's BABB?

And yes, we got ready for swimming! OMG! MEK, Just Lin, and Bon'O: Does Michael Phelps have a guardian angel for this Olympics?

Joey: I've never heard of Rock the Reception, but have you been watching Sordid Lives, the series, on Logo?

    Leslie Jordan is too much!

Hello, SacBarb! Top o' the evening to ya!

    ReplyDelete
  115. A smudge pot prevents frost on fruit trees?

Funny. I thought it was the gunk that shows up on your cotton batting when you clean out your hash pipe!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Bon'O: Me? Focussed? On what? I"ve no idea what you're talking about!

    LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Whab~~Don't know about a guardian angel, but I bet he's glad he didn't trim his fingernails before the race! Gotta love that 6'8" wingspan of his.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Good night everyone. Happy Saturday to you all.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Nite, Barb...will you tuck me in on your way to bed? I'm exhausted from all this swimming and running. Just had to stick it out through the Mark Spitz/Michael Phelps/Costas 3-way.
