Casa Guatemala, Rio Dulce, Central America, Orphanage where I met this precious child
For reasons still yet to be determined, I have never married and I have never had children. Resolving that I would not have children has proven to be much more difficult then resolving the marriage part - especially when I came very close to being a mom. In 1996 I went to Guatemala for two months to volunteer at Casa Guatemala orphanage on the Rio Dulce River. It was hard work but the kids were amazing so it was well worth it. One small girl stood out amongst all the little children. She was three years old and had the biggest sparkly eyes I had ever seen. She lived in adverse conditions but was so full of life, it was bursting out of her. The kids were grouped together by age and she was apart of the group called Los Ninos. The volunteers called her the Head Nino because she was definitely the leader - always in charge of her peers. She was wonderful and she stole my heart.
A month after I got back from Guatemala, I received a phone call informing me that she had just become adoptable and asking if I was interested in adopting her. I was ecstatic and extremely interested and started the adoption process immediately. International adoption is a very expensive endeavour and I didn’t have a lot of money, but friends and family wanted this to happen and were helping out in whatever way they could. The Canadian government however was not as helpful and was blocking the wee girl’s adoption to Canada. She had a syndrome that would require medical care and since this country has socialized medical care, they felt that one little girl would cost the government money. They offered to allow me to cover the cost of her medical care, but I could barely afford her adoption. For almost a year it was a roller coaster ride. I would hear she would be arriving in six weeks and then something bureaucratic would happen. At the end of almost a year, the government’s final decision was that it was a high-risk adoption, which they would not allow. I was devastated.
About three months later, I began to receive phone calls from a family in the US who was interested in adopting her. They wanted to know everything they could about her. Her medical condition did not prevent them from adopting her, because they had medical insurance through work. They eventually did adopt her and I was able to come to terms with it as they were a wonderful family and she would grow up in a loving home. I kept in touch with them for about five years, but eventually lost contact.
Earlier this week I received a friend request on Facebook from a teen-age girl whose eyes I recognized right away in her profile picture. The little girl has come back into my life. And I am beyond the moon and the stars that she has.
So to you, my fine feathered friends, I pose the question, have you ever had someone who has had a huge impact on your life disappear for what you thought was forever, and then have them reappear unexpectedly?

ReplyDeleteVIG what a very beautiful blog today.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing that very private and precious moment of your life.
Morning Iteach and congrats on 1st!
ReplyDeleteVig what a wonderful story you shared with us. It must have been very difficult for you. I am so glad she has come back into your life. Any chance of a meeting?
Isn't funny how lucky we are in Canada to have health care and yet it prevented you from adopting a child. Something to think about if we have a federal election this fall.
In answer to your question...no I have never had someone in my life leave and then come back into it. Although there are days I wished Dad were here again.
Vig: Wow! What a powerful and touching blog. The music was so beautiful in that video and the entire thing moved me to tears.
ReplyDeleteThe heartache you must've felt when you found out you could not adopt that little girl must have been immense! But to have found her again is just amazing! A truly inspiring story. So glad you shared it.
Congrats on first iteach! Hope you're doing well.
I won't be back until late this evening, if even then. I have to work until 6pm and then it's dress rehearsal night for my daughter's play.
Hoep you all have a great day! Love & Peace to all my Owl friends.
Vig- this had me in tears, first of saddness then of joy!! I love you for wanting to make that girl your daughter and I love you for the joy you have at your reconnection.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Hooters. Congrats on 1st iteach and good morning ot you Shirley and hart!!
Good morning, iteach, Shirley, VIG, and Hart!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting blog, VIG! I started wracking my brain for a life experience similar to the one you described, but I'm like Shirley... it's never happened to me either. There are plenty of people in Ontario who were very important in my life at one point or another, but I have no contact with them now. Nor do I think I ever will. :(
Hi, Goldie!
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Iteach!
Vig I am just weeping here reading your story and watching that video. What an experience to want a child so much and be ready to adopt and then to be blocked is so sad and down right wrong.
I am very happy to read that you have contact with that child now!
I can't think about an instance when someone has come back into my life like that. This was truly a beautiful blog!
I will be back later. I am in somewhat of a mad, sad and pissed off mood this morning so I will be back when I can get my emotions under control.
(((Hugs))) to all!
Good Morning All Owls.
ReplyDeleteThis time I am sure it is my friend VIG who wrote the blog.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Iteach - Congrats on first. Are you getting ready for school?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Shirley, Donna, Goldie, Whabbear, and Lynn. I hope you are all well today.
ReplyDeleteI will feed my babies and be back to read the blog and comments.
ReplyDelete15
ReplyDeleteAh, my Owl friends, you are so sweet! Thank you iteach, Shirley, Hart, Goldie, Whabbear and Lynn_D for your empathetic and kind response to a blog that is extremely near and dear to my heart. The girl and I are talking a few times a week. She wanted pictures of when she was little because she doesn't have any, so I have copied several for her and will send them off to her this week. She is a wonderful person!
ReplyDeleteI am off to meetings and then will be catching the 5pm ferry, so I won't be on here much today, but will be back when I get home this evening!
Morning neighbour Tink..I wil call you on my way in from the ferry! Hope today is a day filled with yellow!
VIG - Have a safe trip on the ferry. I will look forward to hearing from you tonight. I am off to read your blog. I know it will be great.
ReplyDeleteVIG - What a truly touching beautiful blog. My heart went out to all of those little kids. I would love to go and get one and bring him or her home. Of course that is just a fantasy for me now but at one time we did consider it. The smiles on these small children who have so little in the way of material stuff is a lesson to us all. I am so happy she got in touch with you.
ReplyDelete19
ReplyDeleteShirley - Yes we are going to fall a federal election. I think the day is the 17th of October. There are so many issues I would like to see resolved.
ReplyDeleteDonna - Tell us about your daughter's play. It sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteLynn - I hope you will be feeling better soon. Can we help? Do you want to vent? We are here.
ReplyDelete24
ReplyDelete25
ReplyDeleteWhoopie - I got #25. It's going to be a lucky day for me. No water problems today.
ReplyDeleteWhabbear - I am like you, trying to think of someone who has come back into my life. Before the day is over I think I may be able to think of one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning..
VIG - what a beautiful blog - thank you for sharing this beautiful story...
Iteach - congrats on FIRST..
waving howdy to - Iteach, Shirley, Hart, Whabby, goldie, LynnD, Tinka, VIG and anyone else that lands.
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!

ReplyDeleteVIG - I have a friend I taught with who adopted a baby from Guatemala. It was a long difficult journey for her but it did have a happy ending. The first baby they lined up for her was a scam. She paid the $30,000 and even went to Guatemala to meet the baby. She saw the six month old for 5 minutes in a taxi cab and then was told to come back in 2 months because of the paper work that had to be done. She went back there to find out the lawyer was not legit and that the baby belonged to her own mother. It was a set-up and she lost the money. The second time she had a better lawyer down there and it went through. However the baby was 6 months old when the procedures started and she was 2 1/2 when she finally got the dear little girl home to Canada. I don't know why there is such red tape when people are so willing to take these little children into their hearts and homes. I do wish Governments would make international adoptions easier. Each country has a lot of red tape and then one has to deal with the obstacles here at home. A child who needs love and a sense of belonging should be the top priority.

ReplyDeleteVIG: What an absolutely wonderful blog. Knowing you as I do, I can imagine not only the frustration and heartbreak at seeing your dream of adopting this young girl fall through...but also your happiness at finding her once again. You are truly a caring and kind person and I am incredibly happy that this young lady came back into your life.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anyone right now that disappeared out of my life and then came back into it...although there are many that I have lost touch with, and would love to see again.
Thank you for sharing this personal journey with us...you really are someone special.

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Zonababy - Didn't our friend write a great blog today? We always knew she was such a kind, giving lady with a big heart. This is just one story that proves it.
ReplyDeleteI will have my breakfast and watch Regis and Kelly and think about who has come back into my life. I know there has to be someone. Be back later.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning to all owls who fly in while I am gone.

ReplyDeleteITEACH: Congrats on FIRST and SECOND! :)
ReplyDeleteTINKA: LOL...loved you making whoopee at #25!!
SHIRLEY: Please see if you can find a telephone repairman for me...maybe the cowboy secretly is one?? ;)
LYNND: Sending you Hugs and lots and lots of smiles!
Good Morning to HART, GOLDIE, BEAR, MEK and all other owls that take a break here in the nest today!!
Vig, the beginning of your blog just about broke my heart. How amazing that she was able to be adopted and that she is in contact with you.
ReplyDeleteMy sister & her husband adopted a beautiful girl from South America. She is now a nurse, mother of 2 and has a wonderful husband. We all love her to pieces.
Today is another busy day. I have to hand deliver a news add for our upcoming VFW steak dinner. Most have an email addy which makes it easier. My to-do list seems to be getting longer instead of shorter!
I have to think on your question Vig, and will be back later.
Have a good day everyone!
Congrats on first, iteach! How is school going?
ReplyDeleteVIG, I loved reading your story! I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions you went through in trying to adopt her, as I have been there. What heartache for you that it didn't work out--I'm sorry! I'm so glad she is back in your life. Thank you for sharing that with us!
When we were living in Korea and had just adopted Aubree, a young woman approached me in the PX and said she was interested in adopting and asked if I could tell her about the process. I not only told her, I helped her through the roller coaster process. (She had lost her 5-year-old daughter when she was hit by a car right in front of her own house.) She eventually, right before we came back to the States, adopted a beautiful little girl. Recently she found me and we only live a couple of hours from each other! We've exchanged pictures of the girls (it's amazing how much they look alike!) and plan on getting together sometime soon.
Lynn, I hope things get better soon!
Hi Shirley, Donna, Goldie, Whabbear, Tinka, Zona, MEK and Mary!
From Area 51:
ReplyDeleteShirley, thanks for the doctor stripper--my vitals definitely went up . . .
Donna Jean, about your feelings about Sarah Palin, I agree. She only served to alienate me last night. To me, she came across as a smart ass. And, a lot of the things she said about her opponent were twisted and untrue. I guess that part is just politics but it still angered me. I shudder to think she and McCain will be our leaders. IMHO!!! That's all I should say about that--I don't want to make anyone angry with me--I just wanted to answer DonnaJean.
Mary - How lovely that your sister adopted a girl from South America. You must wonder if she would have become a nurse if she didn't have the advantages that your sister provided.
ReplyDeleteOver the course of 8 years I provided home-stay for 33 International students, all girls and all of course at different times. I fell so in love with most of them. They were like my daughters and I was very, very sad to see them go home.
Sandie - I know you told your story on a blog but I don't remember how many obstacles you had to get through. It sounds like you helped the Korean lady get through all the red tape. How long does the process take usually? I have friends who are interested in adopting an Asian child.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for the furnace man to do his yearly check-up. As soon as he is gone I am off to get my mom outside into the sunshine. It is beautiful here today, a mini heat wave. That always seems to happen when the kids go back to school.
ReplyDeleteI will see you all this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day all owls everywhere.

ReplyDeleteTinka, I did a local adoption since I was living in Korea--it was much easier (even though it wasn't easy!), faster and less expensive. A friend of mine did adopt a Korean baby (while living in the States) back in the 80's and it took her about a year. I don't know what it's like now.
ReplyDeleteThe woman I helped wasn't Korean, she was an American military wife on a tour, also. She now lives in Georgia, too.
VIG - Thank you for sharing such a personal story and powerful video today. I'm also thrilled that you have connected with that piece of your heart again. Because of your profession, I just knew that you would make a great mother!! The only people that I have lost contact with are because of death....and I would give anything to have them back, but I know that it is impossible.
ReplyDeleteITEACH - Congrats on first!!
Waving a wing at:
SHIRLEY - I think DIANNE-SNOOPING-IN-DENVER found some of your stash early this morning!!
DONNA JO - I hope the rehearsal goes well....tell your daughter to break a leg!!

Good Morning/Afternoon Everyone!
ReplyDeleteVIG~ Your blog today was so heart-wrenching and touching! You are such a wonderful person, and you would have been a wonderful mother to that little girl. I am so glad, though that the story did have a happy ending, even though you were not allowed to adopt her. Now, you are friends, actually more than friends, I am sure. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!
SANDIE~ Thank you for answering my question. I do not want to start any uncomfortable discussions on the nest, so this will probably be my last comment on the subject. Just today, while perusing Yahoo News I noticed a comment by Joe Biden regarding Sarah Palin. Both he and Barack Obama are taking the High Road, and refusing to talk negatively about her and her family situation, saying that talking about their opponents family is off limits. I applaud them for that. Hopefully the Republicans will also take that to heart and not start criticizing Obama or Biden's family. And, since I already stated my opinion on Sarah Palin, That's All I Have To Say About That!
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Peace and Love, Donna Jean
Good Day Hooters!
ReplyDeleteVIG~~Thank you for sharing such a personal and touchingly beautiful slice of your life with us. I don't have a story that even comes close. I am, however, excited about the prospect of an annual reunion this weekend with classmates who were my brothers, sisters and best friends from 1st grade through Sophomore year of High School. I hadn't seen any of them for decades until the 2006 gathering. It was as if we had only been away for a summer break and returned to share endless hugs, giggles, updates and memories. 2007 was even more fun, so I can't wait!
Oh I forgot to say Hi to:
ReplyDeleteITEACH~ congrats on #1
SHIRLEY~ any ideas for lunch?
DONNA JO~ Have fun at your daughters rehearsal this evening. Tell her To Break a Leg from me! (you may have to explain that one)!
GOLDIE~
WHABBEAR~
LYNN D~ It will get better, but sometimes its good to just be pissed for awhile!
TINKA~Have fun with Mom today
MEK~
ZONA
MARY/MI~ say Hi to Raquel for me!
JODI~ oh pooh, I REALLY wanted your recipe!!! I won't tell a soul, I promise, plus I don't even KNOW your brother!
Bye again, Donna Jean
Vig - Wonderful blog today! Your story and the video truly touched my heart.
ReplyDeleteiteach - congrats on being 1st!
LynnD - ((((hugs))))) for whatever it is that's got your feathers ruffled today.
Tink - I have a friend here who adopted two children from China. Their oldest is a little girl. They started the adoption process before she was born and brought home home just before her 1st birthday. She's 5 now. About 6 months ago they adopted a son. They had to wait a long time for a boy. The adoption process is still running about a year from start to finish.
As for someone coming back into my life, it was an old HS boyfriend I hadn't seen in 20 years. We never really broke up, life just took us in different directions. In this case it was a good thing. He had lived a hard life with drugs and alchohol and regret about being abusive towards his ex. He got sober, found religion and was happy with his new life and I was able to put those thoughts of "what if..." to rest.
Good morning to Shirley, Donna, Goldie, Whabbear, MEK, Zona (thanks for putting my dental fears to rest), Mary/MI, Sandie, Jodi, and whoever might be posting as I type this.
I don't know if she's visited here yet I saw on MS that Just-Lin is home so welcome back ... we missed you! Can't wait to hear how your trip went.
My oldest son is flying in tonight and will be driving away with the last of my offspring early tomorrow morning. My nest will truly be empty except for my furkids.
Must get some work done today -- have a great one and I'll check back in later y'all!
**from Area 51**
ReplyDeleteDonnaJean~~Knowing the diversity of opinion which is accepted and encouraged in our Nest, I would so love to respond to your solicitation of feedback re: this campaign. I just don't think I could do it in fewer than 5,000 words, so I won't even try.
Suffice it to say, I have watched every speech from both Conventions and heard/read all the back-stories. I have been equally impressed/depressed/encouraged and outraged by both parties and ESPECIALLY outraged by the various pundits on all sides. I think THE TRUTH WILL OUT during the debates preceding the election, so I'm trying to bite my tongue until then. Don't count on it, though!!

ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday Owls.
ReplyDeleteVIG, I was touched by your blog. It is sad that you were no able to complete the adoption of this wonderful little girl, but I am happy for you that you have reconnected with her. Just from the stories you have told us about Luke and some of the other children you teach, I am sure you would make a wonderful Mom. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.
In January I reconnected with some of my classmates whom I hadn't seen in over 40 years and, like Bon'O, we picked up right where we left off. It was so much fun, we are getting together again next January.

Shirley, I am just in time for lunch. Thanks so much. I think I'll have an egg salad sammie and some watermelon. Yummmmm.
ReplyDeleteHey Dianne-the-snoop-from-Denver, hand over my balloons. Don't make me come up there! Lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know Jodi. You will not be a target in the next water fight.
Zona I'm still looking but no luck yet. I did find a deepsea diver who looks really good in his goggles and flippers! Interested?
ReplyDeleteYour welcome Sacbarb.
ReplyDeleteOutatuune - Thank you for answering my questions about international adoption. I will pass it on to my friend. Congratulations to your friend on her lovely family.
ReplyDeleteShirley - Thanks for lunch. I will just grab the Slim Fast for now. Then I will be back after my nap for a more substantial feast. Thanks again.

ReplyDeleteTINKA: Furnace man?? Is he on SHIRLEY's list?? ;) Sweet dreams, sweet lady!
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY: Deep sea diver?? Oh I think he's right up my alley... ;)
Thanks for lunch, Sunshine...I have such a craving for grilled cheese...I don't know why...
SACBARB: Have fun this afternoon!
JODI: Ok...that's it...when it gets cooler..can you FedEx me some potato salad?? You've teased me enough.... ;P
OUTATUUNE: It'll be a piece of cake..you'll see. :)
TINA: :D :D :D...you just make me laugh til I cry sometimes!!!!
Good afternoon to SANDIE, MARY/MI, DONNA JEAN and BON'O!!
Zona there is one deepsea diver coming your way! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNo I didn't have a furnace man on my list. I think Tinka found him all by herself! Lol!
Good afternoon to Hartldo, Goldie, Whabbear, Lynn D, Tinka, Vig, Mek, Zona, Mary, Sandie, Jodi, Donna Jean, Bonnie, Outatuune and Sacbarb.
ReplyDeleteLynn D you can be mad, sad and pissed off here. We don't care. As long as you aren't mad, sad or pissed off at us. Can we help?
Sandie I'm glad the "doctor" did what he was suppose to do! Lol!
BBL
Hi...VIG, your blog was very touching and I appreciate you sharing it with us. I am excited for you that this girl has been in touch with you. You are such a kind and caring person...but we knew that all along!
ReplyDeleteJODI-thanks-for-ratting-me-out: Umm, SHIRLEY, I don't want to be telling stories but if you look back in Area 51..JODI was being my little helper! I took the balloons to the RNC for tonight. I was wondering why they weren't red, white and blue! They were so heavy too. Oh no, don't tell me there was already water in them!!! This could be a problem! I think Canada might be in trouble!!! One more thing SHIRLEY, what kind of stripper do you have for me? No policemen or teachers, please!
TINK, you had your annual furnace "check up". Hmmm, sounds interesting. I am sure there was still a "pilot light burning", right? :)
JUST/LIN is home? Yea, she will have her good story about someone getting in touch after a long time!!
ReplyDeleteI will have to think about a reconnection. I was thinking for those of us that can't think of one...how about we be the "re-connector" with someone? Just something to think about.
HART: I wish good luck to your daughter tonight and that she has fun too!
LYNND: I hate days when we are mad, sad and pissed all at one time. It's hard to know which emotion we are having at what time! I hope the day has gotten better for you. Sending hugs to you.
TINK: How sad for your friend. I am glad she was able to adopt a child later but it makes me so mad to here of those scams!
My daughter and I went to the movie today and saw The House Bunny and it was very cute. There were not many people there and it was a Movie Tavern where you get lunch while you watch the movie in comfy chairs. Only $5 during the week day!
ZONA: You have a diver there now? I guess I will stop at that sentence before I start getting myself on the naughty mat or in the cage!
LOL @ Dianne/Denver's diver comment!
ReplyDeleteDid I hear right? Dianne is caged in Denver?~ lol~
ReplyDeleteiteach~ congrats on first~
VIG~ my lovely vig...what a wonderful blog today~ I'm so glad you shared your story. I too think you would make a fabulous mother and am glad you reconnected with your little girl~ I lost touch with a friend from grade school. I was googling silly things on the internet one day and thought I read that the grade school friend's dad had passed away. I called the VERY old number I had for the family and the mom answered! It took a long time before she mentioned her hubby and I was so relieved to hear he was alive and kicking. I got my friends phone number and called her immediately and we are still in contact~
Zona~ mwah~
I'm baaaaacccckkkk!!!!
ReplyDeleteiteach Congrats on first!
VIG What a wonderful blog you wrote today! That must have been so difficult for you to be denied the opportunity to adopt that little girl. How wonderful that she has gotten in touch with you now. (((HUGS)))
As you all know, Custard came back into my life after not seeing each other for 40 years. We used to play together when we were 7, were almost girlfriend/boyfriend several times as we got older but it just never quite happened. We do both remember a specific time that occurred the summer before our freshman year of high school. We were at the rec park, his baseball game was over and other teams were playing. We had a brief conversation before I walked off with my boyfriend at the time. During that conversation, we both felt something unusual happen between us. Something very deep and something neither of us understood and neither of us ever forgot through all the years since. We have talked about it many times now and still have a hard time putting that feeling into words. The closest we come is that it was as if our souls recognized each other. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else but us. I do know that when I am in his arms, I feel like I have "come home".
I had a wonderful time during my visit with Custard. I saw a black bear with her two cubs and also a herd of elk. Most of the wildlife activities took place indoors, if you know what I mean. Wink, wink. He was called out on a fire one night at 3 a.m., just as we were drifting off. The initial alarm was for a structure fire but it was really a wildfire. This meant that Custard and others were dressed in the heavier clothing and gear for structure fires, which made it more difficult to navigate the mountainous terrain of the forest fire. Of course I couldn't get to sleep until he returned at 6 a.m., face covered in soot and hair sticking out like he'd had an electrical shock. He was quite a sight! I was just happy to have my cowboy/fire guy home safe and sound.
I still haven't unpacked completely! I really need to go do that. BBL
Just-Lin - Welcome home. I am happy you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteDianne - I know my friend got the child that was meant for her but it angers me that someone got a lot of money for a scam.
VIG - I can't think of any people I reconnected with. There are a lot of school friends that I only see at reunions but I have kept in touch by mail. It was fun meeting my first boyfriend again in Amsterdam after not seeing him for 30 years but we were always in touch at Christmas time. I may think of someone before the day is over.

ReplyDeleteZONA - Neener, neener, neener!!! Making potato salad tonight (ssshhhh!!! it's for Goldie!!)
ReplyDeleteJUSTLIN - Welcome back!!! You and Custard's story touches my heart and I'm thrilled that you have re-connected with that part of your heart again!! Muah!!
ReplyDeleteAfternoon all.
ReplyDeleteI am moving passed pissed to irritated.
I have not posted because I really lose all ability to talk or write very coherently with out throwing out many many many F*#**# words.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
Jodi I am sending you special (((Hugs))) today as soon as I am able to talk like a human I will give you a call.
Sending hugs to all of you because you make me remember that I am accepted here even when I am a bitch rolling around on skates in the fast lane!
LynnD I love bitches on roller skates! :D
ReplyDeleteLYNN D - Thank you......luv u....even on skates!!!
ReplyDeleteOh fun~ We're having a skate party on the freeway! I'm excited~
ReplyDeleteLynn D are you like one of those roller derby bitches that knocks down anyone who gets in her way? Don't forget a helmet and elbow pads! We'll be here waiting for you with lots of jello shots, unless Whabbear or Mek get to them first. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteWelcome back JustLin!
LynnD~~Maybe if you buy me a pair of skates I can join you and stop biting through my tongue!
ReplyDeleteLynn ....Lynn ....Lynn, **trying to catch her as she flies by on roller skates** GUESS WHAT LYNN???
ReplyDeleteTonight I ran by Walmart and the Food Bank volunteers were there asking for donations. Well, we not only gave them some food but we gave them our names to volunteer--me, my hubby and my kids! And all because of you, dear Lynn!!
Just_Lin, I love the story of you and Custard. It's just the sweetest thing I've heard! Welcome back ... until the next countdown!
ReplyDeleteI think I just saw one of Shirley's strippers chasing after LynnD on skates ....
ReplyDeleteJustLin~~Good to have you back; Glad you enjoyed your Northern Exposure adventure!
ReplyDeleteThree Cheers for Sandie & family~~
*\o/* x 3!!!
Thank you, Bon'O!!
ReplyDeleteI've been patiently waiting all day for a call from my nephew (or my Mom--his grandma) because his wife was induced this morning at 9:30. Still no baby ....
ReplyDeleteHi everyone.
ReplyDeleteI am back from ushering for a play called "Go Dog Go" a cute edgy little play. I am on my second glass of wine and trying to fix me some dinner. Please excuse any typos.
Goldie, I saw on your MS status that you were freezing your ta tas off. Maybe your tassels can help warm you up.
J/L, glad to see you back safely. We missed you at the BABB.
LynnD, Love you on skates.
Sandie, Good for you and the family for volunteering.
Zona, are you still o the phone?????
Just/Lin: Let me get this straight. Most of the wild life was inside.
ReplyDeleteOK. Now let's see... what's a good bet for the most likely time, on your trip, that an "indoor wildlife activity" took place.
OK, I'll throw out a wild, silly guess. It was when Custard returned to you (and presumably, to bed) early in the morning, dressed entirely in hunky fireman drag, all "hot and disheveled" (if I can paraphrase just a little).
Non?
Good evening all.
ReplyDeleteJust got in from dress rehearsal.
Tinka: My daughter is playing Mary in THE SECRET GARDEN. Performances are tomorrow evening, Saturday afternoon & Saturday evening. I have to work 12 hours tomorrow, so it's going to be a LONG day! I have to be the Backstage Mom for both evening performances.
I wish I could get out of work tomorrow but I need the money. I'm paid hourly.
My husband is leaving at 4am to go get our van back from my son & DIL. Their car is fixed now, so my husband and one of his friends are driving it to Virginia Beach. Then they'll get our van and turn around and come back. At least an 18 hr drive. And they're heading right into Hurricane Hannah!
I talked to my DIL tonight and there is talk of them evacuating and closing the Navy base where my son works. So AGAIN, I'm asking for your good thoughts and prayers. Thank you!!!!
Mark Your Calendars or set your TiVo...Tomorrow Night's Simulcast 8pm CBS, ABC, NBC ~~
ReplyDeleteS^TC!
Lots of our faves, including Carrie Underwood, Melissa Etheridge, Jason Mraz, Meryl Streep, etc.
Donna~~Best to 'Mary' tomorrow night, and wishes for safe travels to hubby.
My family in North Carolina are also keeping a close eye on Hanna and Ike. They had a bit of flooding just a week or two ago from Fay's tornadoes, so they're a bit edgy over Ike's approach.
Thanks for the "break a leg" Jodi and Donna Jean! I told my daughter you wished her luck. Thank you for your good wishes too Dianne! My daughter IS having fun with this play! The director has been awesome! We have been so fortunate to have had the chance to work with him. He's taught her more this summer than she has learned the past 5 summers in other museum plays.
ReplyDeleteSandie: My heart rejoiced at your post about your family volunteering for the local food bank. That is wonderful news! And more kudos for Lynn D for inspiring you!!!!
Welcome back JustLin!!!
100~
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie, for your good wishes for my daughter, and for hubby while he travels.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of hubby....
I forgot to mention my story about him.
He and I went to high school together and we were casual friends/band geeks. He was a yr older. When he graduated, he moved up north and I didn't see or hear from him in 10 yrs.
Then he was back in town for his 10 yr reunion and I ran into him. He asked if I'd go out for a bite to eat and I did. (I was divorced and had a baby at the time. My mom kept my son that night.)
We really had a good time but I figured nothing would ever come of this because he lived 4 hours away and had to go back home and back to work in two days.
Well, long story short, he started driving down here to see me every weekend until he finally moved here 11 months later. Then we got married a couple of years after that.
That very first night, when we ran into each other, he told me that he had a crush on me back in high school but wouldn't ask me out because his friend liked me. His friend is who I ended up marrying and then I divorced the loser. Wonder how different things would've been if he HAD asked me out back in high school? I certainly wouldn't have the son I have and, well, who knows?
Ain't life funny?
Hey, everybody! Thank you all for the welcome back. You are such a special group of people. I'm so lucky to have found you.
ReplyDeleteWhabby Yes, a lot of wildlife activites between Custard and I. Actually, I had already exhausted him when the fire call came in...and, no, he was not in drag! Bwahahahaha!!!!!
I've really enjoyed seeing the pics taken at the BABB. I sure wish I could have been there, too.
Thank you, sacbarb and Donna! And Donna, best of luck to your daughter in her play! I hope you get some time to rest with that busy schedule!! I hope your hubby has a safe trip and your son doesn't get the storm.
ReplyDeleteBon'O, prayers for your family in NC! We thought Hannah was headed toward Savannah and so might be affecting us but it looks like she took a right turn towards the Carolinas. I hope she's just a slip of girl by the time she reaches land.
Thank you Sandie! All these good wishes make me feel very positive about everything!
ReplyDeleteHart Good luck to your daughter. I bet she'll be great! Hoping your son and DIL stay safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteThanks JustLin! I appreciate that!
ReplyDeletePOTATO SALAD??? Did I hear Potato Salad?
ReplyDeleteLOL@Sacbarb- I'll have to try the tassles and see if it warms things up. It just might if Mr. Goldie sees me wearing them!
Welcome back J/L
Lynn- I don't care if you are a bitch on wheels or whatever- SWAK
Good luck to your daughter Hart, and hoping the family and Bonbon's family are all safe from the storms. That goes for everyone on the coast too!

ReplyDeleteSounds like you had "Yummy" time too! I'm so happy for you to have re-connected with your true soul mate. How romantic!
DONNA JO~ Glad the rehearsals went well, I'm sure your daughter will do a terrific job! And what a terrific story about how you met your husband. Dreams really can come true!
SANDIE~ Good for you and your family!
JODI~ you are making potato salad??? Can I PLEASE have some too????
LYNN D~ (((HUGS))), may tomorrow be a brighter and happier day for you!
Peace and Love to All,

Thank you Goldie!
ReplyDeleteMy new picture here is of my daughter in her "Mary" costume. Actually, that is the Mary dress and the hat is for another part she has in the play. In addition to "Mary", she plays the daughter of a servant, a townsperson, and a mean school girl. The Mary role has a large speaking part but the other 3 roles have no lines.
Going to bed now. Will be praying for Bon's family and all those in the path of this most recent hurricane.
Ooops! I guess I forgot to save the picture after I uploaded it. Here it is now.
ReplyDeleteDonna - Thanks for answering my question about your daughter's play. I will be thinking of her tomorrow night. Does she get nervous? I remember how nervous I used to get during school plays.
ReplyDeleteVIG - I am happy you will be in your own bed tonight. Thanks for the phone call and for writing such an inspiring blog today. You are very talented my dear friend.
I am off to bed. Please stay safe everyone. Good Night. Love, Tinka

ReplyDeleteJust landing in the nest for a moment before I head off to bed.
ReplyDeleteDONNA JO~ Your daughter is adorable! How exciting tomorrow will be for the both of you! I am sure all will turn out wonderful!
I remember when my oldest daughter had a very small part in a community theatre production of "Oliver". (she was one of the orphans, but had to sing many of the songs) They had to perform for for two weeks, and each parent needed to chaperone them in between performances. I loved it, and so did she! We still know all the words to the songs!
I am sure your daughter will enjoy herself immensely, and it will definitely be a memory she will treasure forever!
MAUREEN~ Thanks for sharing the news that CAROL is having lots of fun in Vegas! Of course she is!!! Miss her lots, but am so thankful that we are in "good hands" (no, this is not an Allstate commercial) with you!
Lots of love to everyone, and have a terrific Friday!
Donna Jean
Good TGIF Morning Owls!
ReplyDeleteA special Hello to my other very early-bird friend Jodi!
I just learned, from The Weather Channel, that "Hannah" is a tropical storm. My DIL was calling it a hurricane. Well, either way, she's scary! I still have my fingers crossed that my kids will be okay and my husband won't run into any trouble on the way to take my son's car back to him. He's already out and on the road to Virginia.
Tinka: My daughter does get a little nervous before performances but I think it's just natural nerves that any actor gets before a play. She LOVES performing. She can act shy at times in real life but she loves being on stage. Tonight is Opening Night. I hope we have a good audience!
Just Lin & Donna Jean: Thanks for the nice compliments about my daughter.
Anyone in touch with Carol: Please tell her Donna Jo said HI!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
