Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Chosen by Just_Lin

The other day I forgot to include this as one of my favorite Christmas songs when responding to Bonnie's wonderful blog. It conveys the perfect sentiment for what I wish all of my owl friends this holiday season.

The singer is, of course, Mr. Frank Sinatra. The movie clips star the wonderful Cary Grant in the movies The Bishop's Wife, Room For One More, Indiscreet, In Name Only, Penny Serenade, and Night and Day.

Sometimes we get so busy with all the things we have to do during this time, that we forget to slow down and really enjoy the company of our friends and loved ones. This song reminds me to do that.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season.

  1. J/LIN: I was surprised and happy to find that you picked Sinatra's version of this song..I just love it!! I don't know why, but it always seems to me to be a little sad...even as the lyrics tell us to have a "Merry Little Christmas". It's one of my very favorites though. Thank you so much for the great video and song today!!

  2. Good morning! Congrats on first Zona! I thought I would give it a try! but alas, I am never early enough. Oil Well.

  3. J/L: Great video, I love that song!

Zona: I agree, it does seem to be a little sad.

  4. Good Morning Bebbi! I think it might come across as sad because the scene it was written for in "Meet Me In St. Louis" with Judy Garland, was pretty emotional.

J/LIN: I've listened to it four times now...I think I'm on Sinatra overload!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yes, that is true. It is a sad part of the movie. I love that movie. I need to rent it again!! I have Netflix, just got it so I might add it to my queue today.

  6. Morning Glories!

    Zona got first Wohoooo!

    Hi Bebbi!

Justlin yes this song does make you slow down and rethink what Christmas should be about! Great song.

Well we still have internet and electricity this morning. Thank goodness no winds but a lot of freaking snow! I will be back in a bit I am going out to measure how much.

    Well... and I need coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  7. LYNND: I'm glad you still have your internet and electricity...and most of all, your coffee!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well..it's straight up seven am.. and I've listened to Sinatra five times now..I think I'll drag myself away and let Nikki out. Be back in a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Zona the coffee IS the most important thing! LOL

Well here is what I think is weird I went outside and thought Huh it feels warm this morning. So I look at the thermometer and it is 29 degrees! When you think 29 is warm there is something so wrong with that picture!

Mr. Lynn D and I estimate there is about 8 inches of snow maybe more. There is also a 1/4 inches sheet of ice on top of the snow. So sometime last night we did get freezing rain. NO wind yeah!

I did see on the new that Seattle and north of Seattle that they were getting High Winds. I am praying it totally by passes us! Rain is going to bring it's own mess....flooding!

I feel a Bah Humbug moment coming on!

Tinka I hope you are warm and safe!

Bon I saw your post 40 degrees how in the heck did you guys dodge the bullet?

Mary and Owl condo in AZ is sounding like a fantastic idea!

Bebbi congrats to your nephews! I am so proud of them! It is getting harder and harder to get a college education and It always feels so wonderful to hear when someone graduates!

  10. Good morning, everyone!

It is below zero here in sunny Illinois. I think the high today is going to be 5.

  16. Good morning! Congrats on first, Zona! Whenever I hear "Frank Sinatra" now I think of you!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Just_Lin! Thanks for such a sweet song this morning.

Bebbi, hope you get all your things done today!

LynnD, wow, 29 sounds cold to me! It's been so nice here (in the high 70's) but it's supposed to go down to 45 tomorrow! Now mind you, I'm not complaining after hearing you and iteach, but after the 70's that's gonna feel cold!!

iteach, high of 5?? You poor dear--do you want to come visit me in GA? I think 45 would be like a heat wave to you.

Hi Lois! All ready for Christmas?

MEK, I had a chuckle picturing a McD's in the middle of a desert! LOL! Must look like a mirage.

  17. Hey I have ttrying yo give this plunger back to the lady but they dont answer there door. yjere os a lost sine 4 a missing plunger but nobody answers the phone. my toilet backed up and I borowed it from the nice lady. If u see her ask her to call me.

  18. Oh Good Lord......

I am LITERALLY laughing SO hard that I have tears rolling down my face and can NOT see!!!

How in the hell did plunger boy find me??!!

    THAT just made my day!!!

Good morning, Sandie - it's only 32 degrees here right now - which for the desert is REALLY cold - and LOL at mirage!!

Okay - I need to get off this computer and ready for my day - I'm meeting the scrapbook gals for a little party and card making!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Have fun, MEK!

Speaking of card making, I just put a picture of the card you all would have received had I had my act together this year. I didn't participate in the card exchange because I knew I wouldn't have time to finish my cards this year. Anyway, please go look at myspace to see your special card!! hee hee

    ReplyDelete
  20. Missing a few words in that last post! "...just put a picture of the card ON MYSPACE ..."

Mary! See, it happens to me, too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you borrow a plunger, does the original owner really want it back? I don't think I would. :)

Sandie, I wish! So not ready. Can't wanna so bad!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good Morning Zona-my-baby - Congrats on being first. You are always first in my heart anyway.

Good Morning Bebbi, Lynn, Iteach, Lois, and Mek. Happy Snow Day.

I say that with sarcasm because that beautiful snow may change all my Christmas plans and that makes me sad. Right now the road over the Malahat is treacherous and I don't know if it's going to be any better Christmas Eve. The family was coming here to spend it with me. I would rather be alone than risk their lives. I will be watching the weather very carefully in the next two days.

Lynn - I think enough is enough don't you? This is so unusual for cold weather and snow to last so long.

Just-Lin - I loved that video. It is a beautiful rendition of that song.

    Have a great day everyone.

  23. Good Morning to ZONA, MEK, SANDIE, BEBBI,LYNND, ITEACH, NONEWZ AND WELCOME TO PLUNGER BOY!

I really don't like to be up this early on a Sunday or really any day but I wanted to do one last load of laundry before MRD takes off for Virginia tomorrow AM.

MARY/MI: I guess you found out the hard way that What Happens In Owl Manor Doesn't Always Stay!! I knew I heard an extra amount of noice from BEAR'S room with he and SANTA but far be it from me to spread rumors! lol I will tell you that your growl is very lady like!

MEK: You jinxed me! We had to rush to get our plunger last night as the toliet spilled over and damn it..it was me on the pot! What a friggin' mess.

ZONA: Your card is so beautiful. I didn't know you had to be a card maker to be on the nest. I don't know how I sneaked by that rule...whew!

LYNND: Your owl Christmas letter cracked me up. I read it to MRD and he even laughed too. You are so funny and how fun to have our very own letter. Not only do we have artistic card makers but we have talented writers too. Hmmm, wonder what my talent could be for all of you?

SHIRLEY: You asked about my cooking in my beautiful orange set from BONO. Wellllllll, you probably don't know this but I am a gourmet cook. I can boil eggs, used the micro wave and make chip and dip. I probably maybe might have exaggerated a tiny bit on my chip and dip post yesterday but I am trying to keep up with JUSTLIN and all her cooking.

  24. Whoops....HI TINK...we must have been typing at the same time. We were supposed to have lots of snow by today and haven't had any and the sun is out again. It is freezing (11 right now) and predictiing 5 by 2pm. I hope the snow holds off for the week everywhere so we can all get around and people can travel, etc. I always hate to see people stranded in airports for a holiday.
TINK...stay in...I find the walking in snow and ice is much more frightening that the actual driving.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Morning y'all! Congrats on 1st Zona!:)

I have a homemade pumpkin cheesecake in the oven and the meat sauce is simmering for spaghetti, salad and garlic bread Sunday dinner!:)

My mouth is watering in anticipation haha

hope you all have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  26. OH and the best part of being the chef, I enjoyed licking the rubber spatula from the cheesecake batter haha

    ReplyDelete
  27. OMG...LYNND...I forgot to tell how beautiful your snowflake in your card was too. On the other hand, I haven't had one positive comment (or negative for that matter) on how lovely I trimmed the Colorado cards to fit the envelope!

    ReplyDelete
  28. JOEY...I am leaving now for your place. Where are you again this week? You are making my absolute favorite dinner. I think if I point my nose just right I can even smell all of it. I haven't even had breakfast yet.

    ReplyDelete
  29. ROFLMAO@Dianne!:)

    come on down;)lol..South Carolina!

    I'll save you a plate;)

  30. SLIN, your blog brought back a lot of memories. I go straight to my childhood memories when I hear this song. Also, White Christmas with Bing Crosby. Actually, I recorded the White Christmas movie the other night and will watch it soon.

ZONA,how are you my night shift friend?

    BEBBI, almost

LYNN, I am glad you are still connected. I can't imagine walking on a sheet of ice. I doubt walking would be part of the equation for long.

    Hi NOT_TEACH_IN_ILL_OVER CHRISTMAS

MEK, I see such excitement in your comment about McD!

SANDIE, Are you still wearing flip flops?

PLUNGERBOY? Are we going to hear from Bon's Newspaper boy next? LOL

MEK, you better look both ways before leaving your house!

    Welcome to OBLONGSKATER

NN/LL, You are so right. We had quite a plunger debate the other day on the NEST.

TINK, I hope the snow stops before Christmas Eve so your family will be with you for Christmas. Try not to think about it. I guess that is easier said than done. Let me think about it for you.

DIANNE, Maybe PLUNGER BOY will be up your way with MEK'S plunger.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Linda: Have YOUSELF a merry little Christmas!

Dianne: For the Record, Mary/MI is denying any involvement with the growling.

Me? My lips are sealed. Now.

Good morning, Zona! I agree with you, there is certainly a tinge of sadness behind that song! I think it's in recognition that for all of us, and increasing as we age, the fates DON'T allow.

My Dad's mother died on Christmas Eve back in the late 40's. I'm always amazed at his ability to put any sadness he feels aside and enjoy Christmas. He never even talks about her unless someone brings her up.

Dianne and Joey: Why don't you head over to Lois's? You can share Joey's cake and drink punch too (assuming Lois refills the bowl)!

Tinkatia: Here's hoping you aren't by yourself at Christmas! If the fates allow...

P.S. Where's Hartldo been lately? Missing her...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lani, Almost what?

Whabby, Mr. Bebbi is like that about his mom too. She died on December 3rd a few years back. We were supposed to go up and see her over Christmas. It was a very sad time for him and he really mentions much about her. She was a great lady.

Hello Oblongskater! After you clean up all your shit that has overflowed, can you come and clean up the shit I have around here...it always seems to be overflowing at my house too! hehe...
And, during the holidays,,,how much more shit do we have to deal with? I hate that shit, don't you? ;)
And, when you are at the nest and in life, don't forget to bring a shovel because sometimes the shit gets so deep around here, you just can't get it with a plunger, you have to get to using the heavy equipment...!!!

That reminds me of my dad and his really close friend. Whenever they got together we always said, you need to have a shovel when Vic & Dave get together cause you have to dig your way out of all that bullshittin' they do. Sadly, Dave has passed away, but he was a wonderful man!!

  33. Good morning!

Zona, congrats! You are the first one to post AND get a Frank song!

I love this song, thank you for posting it JL. It is a little sad.

Joey, MR. EBJ always wants to lick the spatula or beaters after I am done mixing something, especially cheese cake batter. It is kind of funny!

Your dinner sounds delicious, spaghetti is one of our favorites too.

Tonight I'm making marinated shrimp, rice, salad and garlic bread.

Well I need to fold some laundry so I'll check back!

  34. The nest is filling up.

Good Morning to Dianne, Joey, Lani, Whabbear, Bebbi and East Bay J.

Dianne - I am staying in because under that beautiful snow is a sheet of ice. I would love to go for a walk today and kick snow with my 'fur babies'

Joey - I love the sound of your dinner. My groceries are getting low. There isn't much choice at the moment. I thought I could get out tomorrow because the forecast said rain. Now they have changed that back to snow. There are absolutely no cars going past my house.

Lani - I am trying not to think about it but I just talked to my son and they have closed the road over the Malahat. I am praying for a warming spell.

Whabbear - Your dad had the real Christmas spirit if he was able to put the feelings of others ahead of his own. I am sure he was feeling sad and not showing it. He sounds like a wonderful man.

I was going to make my Christmas bread this morning but I am not quite in the mood. Maybe I will have an early nap and wake up all excited about Christmas again. Right now the Grinch has me in his clutches. That is a brand new feeling for me and I don't like it. I must start counting my blessings.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dianne-so-funny-in-Denver, you always make me smile!

Tinka, I hope the roads are all clear for Christmas so your family can be together.

Lani, yes, I'm still wearing flip flops. **shhhh, don't tell Tinka, Dianne, iteach or LynnD**

Joey, we're neighbors right now! Where are ya? I'm betting I can be there by dinner.

  36. Afternoon Hooters....

So I just had the pleasure of pushing my Mom's car out into the street in order for my Lil Brother to back his car out to jump her car. Did I mention that the wind chill is -22 today?

I am so never not leaving Hawaii in the winter EVER AGAIN!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. that should have said never ever leaving...

    see my brain is frozen!~!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. BEAR: Well, I would go to Lois' house for some punch but I last I heard her say was that she was "waking up in the punch bowl". Now---nothing personal but I am not too sure I want to drink what Lois was sleeping in the other night. AND you already told about MARY/MI so too late. I just wish I wasn't in the room next to yours' that night. I didn't get a wink...the HO Ho Ho became obnoxious all night.

Ok...gotta go and get ready for a family Christmas party two hours away. I think it has now turned into a family Christmas/Football party.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just talked to my daughter and she got me back into the Christmas spirit. She assured me they will be over Christmas Eve. They are all so excited about a White Christmas. It's contagious. So now I am going to have a nap and make my Christmas bread. See you all this afternoon. I hope VIG is lying on the beach.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Sandi and K-Girl.

Sandi - I am praying for rain to clear the roads.

K-Girl - I don't blame you. Who would ever exchange Hawaii for any other place in winter.

    ReplyDelete
  41. KGirl, did you say -22?? Do things like cars even work in weather like that? My body hurts just thinking about it. brrrrr...

Tinka, yea! I predict you'll have a wonderful white Christmas with your family all around you.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok.. all cleaned up...

    Looks so pretty..

    I just got in...

    I will check back later..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  43. k-girl, Where are you? It is bitterly cold here today too. Been there done that with the pushing of cars thing. Why is it that cars tend to have problems on the absoluetely most coldest day!?!

    ReplyDelete
  44. LynnD: Thanks for the congrats, I am a very proud aunt.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hi ALL!! Wind chill here is -15!
Actual 10 degrees with winds blowing.
Is it spring yet lol!, Hell winter didn't even officially start until
    today!

Whabbear, not talking lol! You already let the cat-out-of-the-bag!
See if I ever share anything (anyone) with you again!!! ;-)

Tinka, I am glad your spirits have been lifted again!

J/Lin, Thanks for the memories. I am a big fan of old movies and especially musicals like White Christmas. Sinatra is one of my favorite singers along with Bing Crosby.I love the Miracle on 42 Street (right street? lol).

Diane/Denver, the "lady like" growl was Whabbear. He rated on me so....lmao!!!

MEK~ I think plunger boy should give you a gift certificate to McD's LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Whabbear "ratted" on me not rated,,,well maybe Santa was rating me lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hello Owls! I'm glad you enjoyed today's music video. With Frank Sinatra and Cary Grant, whats not to like? I suppose it is a little sad but I prefer to think of it as tender and poignant.

Zona Way to go, Girl! Congrats on #1 today!

Bebbi Congrats on the nephews graduation. That is really awesome!

LynnD Only 29 there? You must be in shorts today. ;)

iteach I hope you are enjoying your holiday break.

NoNewz The punch bowl does not sound very comfortable unless you were laying on Tinka's famous buns. LMAO!

MEK I was at a local mall the other day and saw that a Michael's will be there soon! Of course, I thought of you immediately.

Sandie I hope the iron infusions do the trick. (((HUGS)))

    PlungerBoy ROFLMAO!!!!!

Tinka I'm so glad you're spirits have been lifted. Sometimes snow can be a good thing, especially to the young ones.

Dianne Sorry about the toilet. Don't you hate when that happens? These things seem to time themselves to happen during holidays, birthdays, etc., just to cause a little extra stress.

Joey OMG! I wish I was coming to your place for dinner. It sounds so delicious!

Slani When did you finally go to bed?

Bear I don't growl but I have been told that I bugle like the elk in Idaho! LOL

EBJ Your dinner sounds wonderful, too, and you are a lot closer to me than Joey. ;)

Kgrl I can't even imagine -22, but if you were in Hawaii you would not be with your mom and brother. The memories will be worth it.

Carol Thanks for checking in. All the owls seem to be behaving themselves and keeping the nest tidy today. Well, except for the little mishap that Dianne had, but it's all taken care of now.

DonnaJean We are miss you and sweet Laurie Elizabeth.

  54. I noticed on my ms page, that Amicus deleted her ms page.

I was always fond of Amicus, we first met on Rossland and she came to the nest when we all did.

She always helped everyone out with their ms pages and every time I needed her help, she always replied and gave me a hand. Her comments were always kind, she was certainly a great owl friend to have.

I sent her a e-mail a couple of months back, and never heard back from her.

I hope she is well, and I wish her all the best. I do hope someday our paths will cross again.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Carol, I noticed that, too. I always enjoyed talking to Amicus about grooming and dogs in general. I miss her. I hope she's well.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I hope Amicus is okay and just doesn't have time for blogs anymore.

Tinka Do you ever hear from her?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sandie:
    I will miss her too..

She was so helpful in so many ways..

    ReplyDelete
  58. J/L:
I was thinking the same, perhaps the blogging got to be to much, she was def a private person, so maybe she just needed to take a step back, and then once gone, she realized this was not for her...

I am just hoping she is ok...

    ReplyDelete
  59. JL come on over, there will be plenty!

Is it raining over on your side of the bay?

It's been drizzly, cold and grey all day long here.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Mary I'm glad you are sa.fe and warm in your house. The highways and roads there sound treacherous.

We lived in the midwest for some time and I remember the bad weather. We also lived in Montana and remember it snowing so much that we wouldn't be able to go to school.

Ice skating down the street was fun, though!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I was wonder who I was missing on ms
I knew someone had been dropped but wasn't sure who. I too hope she is alright. If she is reading here, I wish her a"Merry Christmas!"

  62. Thanks eBay. I am here for the duration. Mr Mary is sitting in his sauna. He asked if I wanted to sauna, I said no way. I don't even want to go outside the few feet where it is!

Iteach..so sorry for the bad "sentencing" lol!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. EBJ Yes, it is raining here. I'm heating up the oven to make banana-nut bread. When it's ready, I'll pass it out to all the owls along with some hot cocoa with a splash of Bailey's in it, whipped cream on top and a sprinkling of cinnamon. That ought to warm us all up!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Justlin, m-m-m-m sounds wonderful. I was thinking of making banana bread. I have a few over ripe bananas that need to be used or thrown away soon.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Good Afternoon!!

BEBBI: Wow..my be back in a bit turned out to be quite a long bit, didn't it?? ;)

MEK: Someday you'll have to show me how to party and make cards at the same time...I have enough trouble just doin' the card part! Especially if it involves ribbon..eeek.. ;)

SANDIE: I got a little thrill just seeing my name and Frank's in the same sentence..lol..

TINKA: I'm glad I read all the posts before commenting...now I'm happy again knowing your family is going to come over on Christmas Eve!! :D

DIANNE: I'm not much of a cardmaker...I think you trimming your cards to fit the envelope and what I come up with make us about even!! (you may be a little ahead of me) :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. JOEY: How fast can you get that dinner to AZ?? ;)

DIANNE: I didn't know you could point your nose right...wow..there sure is a lot of talent in Denver!! ;)

LANI: I love White Christmas! Danny Kaye is one of my favorite actors..and when he and Bing Crosby sing "Sisters"...omg..just so funny!!

BEAR: I know...those fates sure do get in the way, don't they?

EBJ: First and Frank..my Christmas is complete!! :)

KGRL: I betcha thawing out is gonna be fun though! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. DIANNE: Are those orange horses STILL playing somewhere?? Sheesh...

CPGEM: Well, as they used to say..It's Frank's world..we just live in it... lol..

MARY/MI: What WAS your rating?? LOL...!!! I don't blame you for not wanting to go outside to the sauna..dang parts could break off in that kind of cold! Are you sure you want Mr. MARY out there..jus' sayin'.. ;)

AMICUS: Wherever you are..happy trails to you.. :)

CPGEM2: I'll help you wrap..as long as there is no ribbon involved! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Zona, I think we've talked about this before but I love that sister's song in White Christmas. My sister and I used to watch White Christmas together every year--it was a tradition! We still watch it every year (just not together) and I think I could be in the movie--I know all the parts and songs, too! LOL

Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister

I do have a bottle of Bailey's I'm willing to share tho!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I miss Amicus too! And NowMercy!

EBJ: OK, I'll hoist a virtual shot of Bailey's with you at the Lone Star this afternoon.

  74. My kitchen pipes froze and it took three hours of persistent hair dryer usage and many a bad word to get the water flowing again. P.S. I so fucking won that war! Take that frozen water!

It's been reported as low as -30 in rural Illinois. Iteach, come over and snuggle me up!!!! LOL!

I hope all of my new owl friends: Zona, Sandie, Tina, Tinkatia, Bebbi, Bobolink, East Bay_J, Dianne, ibebold, Lynn_D, Lani, Just_Lin, Carol, iteach, kahonugrl, Mary, Donna Jean and Laurie, MEK, VIG, Joey, Whabbear, Plunger Boy and any others who fly in from time to time have a very merry Christmas.

Going back out to the in-laws, so I'll see you when I get back. XOXO

  75. J/LIN: Why are you covering whose nuts?? ;)

  76. Good Afternoon Christmas Spirits. I am awake and ready to go. The snow falls and the cars arent' moving but I am going on my daughter's advice and I am getting ready.

To those asking about Amicus I have no answers. It is such a mystery to me. She was my friend and we never missed a night where we didn't say good-night to one another. For months she did my myspace layouts and music players for me and then taught me how to do it myself.

A few months ago she went on vacation. I wrote her and told her how worried I was about her. On August 10th she wrote and said she was sorry she worried me and that she had been on holidays. She said she was now back and she would make sure she didn't worry me again. She said if she was going to be away she would let me know. That is the last letter I got from her. I kept sending her picture comments and messages but she stopped accepting them. That's all I know. I just hope she isn't sick and doesn't want us to know. I hope as Carol said maybe she just needed to step back. I hope that is the case. I have her e-mail address but she doesn't answer that either. I will pray that she is fine. She is a very good person.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Zona - Yes I am glad you read all the comments because I had a sudden attack of "Grinchitis". Now I am fine. I am starting my Christmas bread when I get off the computer. My house is lovely and warm and very pretty with its lights reflecting on the snow.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Every time Tango and Tia go outside (and they aren't out long) they come in with their tummies and legs full of hard round snowballs. I have to pop them into the tub to melt them or they would be melting for some time. Right now I am dreaming of a green Christmas, just like the ones we used to know.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I don't have time to march to 100 so I will come back and see if Shirley did.

  80. Have fun at the Lone Star, Whabby!

    ReplyDelete
  81. And say hi to MR. WHABBEAR for me!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Sorry for the problem with your pipe NoNewz :(

    ReplyDelete
  83. Will it never ennnnnd? I hate freaking snow!

    Mary I want a sauna at my house! I was going to say tell Mr. Mary I want a sauna, but that did not sound quite right! :}

    It is snowing again. Sigh

Kgirl sorry but I had to laugh when I read your posts! I bet you never leave home again.

Sorry to hear about Amicus I just hope all is well in her real life.

I am going to go wander and curse at the sky! Unfortunately I don't think I can win this war like Lois.

PS Lois buy a heat gun they work faster.

    ReplyDelete
  84. NoNewz My Custard in Idaho tells me he has to keep a bathroom faucet and kitchen faucet on very slightly so the water won't freeze. I don't know about these things as I've always lived in the flatlands of California.

Zona To keep them toasty. ;)

EBJ That's what friends are for. :)

Does anyone know what city Amicus lives in?

  85. Season Greeting's!
Zona, LynnD, Iteach, Carol, Mek, Lois, Sandie, Turtle, Tink, Dianne, J/L, Lani, bebbi, EBJ, Mary, plungerboy, Whabbear!!

    Congrats on First Zona!

    Lois, safe travels!

Joey, I keep forgetting to say Welcome back! I missed you! Your dinner sounds yummy!

Sandie, Sending you positive thoughts and Prayers that you feel better soon.

I survived shopping today. It is so freaking cold here. With the windchill it must be 20 below!! And freaking windy as hell! Needless to say, the dog's don't even want to go out.
I'm about to put my feet up...maybe for the night...but, I wanted to stop in and say Hello.

I hope you all have a good night..
    Stay Warm Snow Owl's!!!

  86. OH! I too will miss Amicus!
If by chance you are reading Amicus....I hope you and your family are doing well.
Have a Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year♥
You are a Dear and are missed.

  87. Merry Christmas to Birdee and Shirley too! I didn't intentionally leave anyone out. I love all you feather folk the same!!!

Since I get up around 4 am, I thought the water would be okay to leave off. Last night around 12:30, I hit the hay. In that short amount of time it froze.

While we are away, we'll leave a tiny trickle. I hope that will do the trick. It's one of the many down sides to a house that's around 100 years old. Thanks for the concern and advice.

I've got everyone plenty of clean clothes for the trip. Plenty of presents wrapped and ready. I hope the weather clears up enough to get there!!! :D

I hope Santa treats you all well this year. XOXO

    ReplyDelete
  88. That is odd about Amicus. I noticed today that someone had went off my top 40. She was always really nice and very helpful to others too. I didn't even know where she lived, did any of you?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Bummer about the pipes Lois. :( It is really cold here.

Regarding the cold, I am also worried about my son who is traveling back from Michigan. I talked to him about 30 minutes ago and he was coming through Toledo. He should be home about midnight.

I didn't get presents wrapped and I didn't get the last few items I needed. Instead, Mr. Bebbi and I went to Costco and I bought a bunch of stuff. I am in LOVE with Olive Bruschetta..that stuff is so GOOD. I did lose two more pounds so I am at 52 pounds lost now! YAY! I walked a bunch at Costco! I felt a little guilty though, like I was sneaking off to meet a secret lover. You see, I have an allegiance to Sam's Club and my Mom works at Sam's so I felt like I was cheating on my mom and Sam.

My mom will get over it, I don't know how Sam will feel. I guess as long as I come back and drop a few dollars around, he will forgive me. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lynn - It's still snowing here too. I am so sick of it. I am keeping my taps dripping slightly too. That seems to work.

Well, I just wanted to check in and see if everyone is okay. I will be back later. I left it too late to start my Christmas bread. It takes 8 hours when you include making of the bread wreaths so I will do it in the morning. I am puttering around trying to keep my mind off the weather.

  91. Bebbi:

I am in Chicago visiting family for the holidays.....NEVER AGAIN IN THE WINTER!!! LOL

Lois: The trickle effect....I see a blog in there~

Zona..... you so know that I will be warmed up next week (wink wink)

ok so I am sitting here wearing three layers under a blanket and Mom has brought the house temp up to 73, but I am still feeling like a Popsicle

    ReplyDelete
  92. Congrats on 1st Zona! You are only 20 away from a tie with Scirish for first place!

Good evening Bebbi, Lynn D, Iteach, No Newz, Mek, Sandie, Plungerboy, Tinka, Dianne, Joey, Lani, Whabbear, EBJ, Kahonugrl, Carol, Mary, Just Lin and Birdee.

    ReplyDelete
  93. k-girl...flannel is a good thing. And lots of layers are a very wise choice. Chicago huh?, cool....yes, VERY COOL...and not in the good way!

Shirley: Good to see you! Hi to you too!! How is your day going?

Worried about my son, his cell phone clicked off, he's in Lima Ohio right now. I hope he calls me back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I'm sorry for those of you in the frigid temps. Throw another log on the fire or another blanket over you and have some hot chocolate!

The weather here in Atlantic Canada is not good. We are in the middle of a nor'easter. Parts of New Brunswick could see as much as 50-60cm (20-24in) of snow. Factor in wind speeds of 100-140km (62-87m/hr)and they won't be moving any time soon. Nova Scotia isn't getting that much snow. Were I live we have had about 10cm (4in) os snow but it is now freezing rain and it will turn to rain and then back to snow tomorrow. Winds are 91km (57m/hr), but some of the gusts must be well over 110 (68m/hr). It's going to be a messy night. I hope the power stays on. And that concludes your weather news fom Nova Scotia.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Shew, my son just called back, he has a low battery and no phone charger so he is fine, just has to conserve battery for emergencies. Gawd, I don't think a parent ever stops worrying!

    ReplyDelete
  96. jeez louise, Shirley..that sounds like a bad storm. I hope the power stays on too!! My son said it is -4 where is is right now. That is freakin cold!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hi Bebbi! My day has been ok. I watch a Star Trek movie this afternoon - "First Contact". Ihadn't seen that in awhile. Not much else going on. Still haven't put any tree or decorations up and at this point I have decide I'm not going to. Maybe next year. Bah Humbug!

    ReplyDelete
  98. The temp here right now is 4C but windchill is -5C (that's 39F and 23F). So I don't consider that too cold. The temp is suppose to go down later in the week though.

I found this great conversion website that I'm using so everyone can see the comparision from metric to US. It make understanding your temps a lot easier.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Zona, I am pretty sure Mr Mary's parts are all warm & intact lol!!

LynnD,Mr Mary built his sauna few years ago. It is only about 20ft from the main house. I just couldn't bring myself to walk out on the frozen tundra!! I am sure he would have liked your company lol! I have seen him dive into a snow bank after throwing steam! He is a Finn lander and I am Mexican. I wasn't wired for saunas lol!!

k-girl, no electric blankie?? Maybe Mrs Clause will come and warm you up lol!!

I am watching Ovation tv. I love to watch movies with wonderful dancers. So far I have watched "Cabaret", with Liza M. Now I'm watching"All That Jazz" .

    Keep warmmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  100. Shirley: I am feeling very bah humbug about wrapping my gifts. I just think it is such a WASTE..I mean, gosh, that paper gets tossed, it is not good for the environment, it costs money to buy the wrap and then it is just throwing it away. I guess I don't see the value in it. And of course, in the courier journal today they had an article about wrapping gifts and how it is so important and means so much..blah blah..I don't want to wrap them. I don't want mine wrapped either! So I am kinda bah humbuggish on that. I know, I am weird.

Glad to hear it is not too too cold, that is good at the very least.

    ReplyDelete
  101. My son LOVES Star Trek, so much! He is always trying to get me to watch it and he has watched all of the star trek episodes..of the latest one they have, whatever it is.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Bebbi if your son loves Star Trek I will send you the Star Trek version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas". I found it yesterday and it's quite good. So check your ms mail.

  103. A Little History Lesson on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Tinka

I noticed a lot of owls commenting on the fact that this version sounded sad. I remember hearing this story so I just checked it out on Wiki.

This song was written by Hugh Martin for the movie, "Meet Me In St. Louis". The original draft was very sad. These are some of the lyrics.

"Have yourself a merry little Christmas / It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" and "Faithful friends who were dear to us / Will be near to us no more".

When presented with the original draft, Garland, her co-star Tom Drake and director Vincente Minnelli criticized the song as depressing.

Though he initially resisted, songwriter Hugh Martin made several changes to make the song more upbeat. For example, the lines "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" became "Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles will be out of sight". Garland's version of the song, which was also released as a single by Decca Records, became popular among United States troops serving in World War II; her performance at the Hollywood Canteen brought many soldiers to tears.

End of lesson, back to regular broadcasting.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thank you sweet Birdee and J/L.

Zona, LOL at a blog in my future.

I am sending warm (very warm) wishes to all of the owls who are in freezing temperatures!! I feel your pain!

The temp here dropped to 42 and I'm freezing my bum off! Okay, okay, I can't complain, I know.

You all are making me appreciate GA. I lived in MD most of my life and I was recently missing the snow and cold but now I've decided I'm perfectly happy with a warm Christmas, thank you.

Tinka, I remember when it would snow in MD and little Ippuni would refuse to go out. We used to have to shovel an area in our yard so he would go. He would get so upset when he had those little frozen snowballs stuck to his hair.

Bebbi, we never stop worrying about them. I hope your son gets home safely.

So, who has the hot cocoa???

    ReplyDelete
  105. Lani - Thank you for taking over the worrying about my family. That leaves me energy to get something done. Thanks, you are a sweetheart.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Bebbi - I am praying for the safety of your son, my son, and Mary from Mi's son and anyone else who is traveling on these treacherous roads. May there be lot of Guardian Angels on duty this week.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Tink: That is an interesting lesson. I had no idea. And, yes, Guardian Angels hopefully will be working overtime for all our family traveling.

I put a new video up on youtube with my tour of Indiana University Campus, for those that are interested. I will send it to Myspace next.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Just Lin how rude of me for not commenting on your blog! I'm sorry. I loved the video! That was a nice version of that song too. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Sandie - Having the dogs go outside every two hours is a nuisance. I wish I had one cleared area. Tia in particular is covered in snowballs in just a few minutes. I have to put her in warm water to thaw them. You can't dry them or pull them off with a towel. I will never complain about rain again. I guess I should never say 'never'.

Your poodles just got their pretty grooming too. Tango and Tia were supposed to go tomorrow but I cancelled it. They were done three weeks ago so they still look pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Good Evening Everyone! We had a nice time at the family/friend Christmas party...lots of good food and drink. Everyone was so cheerful and I was able to visit with some family and friends I don't get to see all the time.
Yes, the party turned into a little bit like a Bronco party with the game on many tv's and the Broncos lost...again at home!! Sand Diego won so the only way for us to get in the playoffs is to beat San Diego at their stadium next week. Yea right...like that is going to happen. We only threw 3 damn interceptions today!!! I am one second from changing colors of my football shirt. NO SACBARB AND ZONA...I am not going to that extreme to switch to a Raider..I think I will look for a winning team...maybe Tennessee Titans. Enough of that mish mash .....

It sounds like almost everyone is freezing except SANDIE AND BEBBI, JOEY and of course MEK AND ZONA. We are down to 10 right now. It is freezing but no snow. Mr D hopes to get out on his way to his mom's tomorrow. He flies to Wash DC and then Norfolk. He is packing shorts--hmmm.

ZONA: You are being modest. You make beautiful cards. Thanks for taking the time...I love them.

JUSTLIN: Sorry about the mess I made in the nest. It was ugly! I usually just do that when I am flying over the trees at the nest! :)

TINK: I am glad you talked to your daughter. It sounds like she is like my Tammy and they are pretty protective of their moms and we are very lucky!

Well, I think I will go glance the paper and get the presents over to the suitcase for my husband to take with him tomorrow. I will check back later.

MEK: You weren't watching the game again were you?

    ReplyDelete
  111. JUSTLIN: I forgot to say I like you blog and I really like the song. I guess I never thought of it being sad. I will have to listen better or just sing it. I am a big Frank fan so I like about anything he sings. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  112. Dianne - Aren't adult daughters wonderful? I don't know what I would do without mine.

    ReplyDelete
  113. KGRL: LOL...yep, so I hear! Ya know, I bet you wouldn't be freezing certain parts off if they were a little less tender! jus' sayin' ;)

TINKA: Tango and Tia are 'low riders' like Remmy was!! :)

LYNND: OMG..don't curse the sky..who knows what'll fall out of it next!! ;)

BIRDEEEEE!!!!!: I'm glad you survived your shopping trip..and I love your woolly chickenowl!! Nikki sends kisses to your pups! :)

    LL/NN: Safe travels!

    MARY: Pretty sure??? LOL...

    J/LIN: Ahhhh...toasty nuts.. ;)

MEK: I was at Target, which is right next to Michaels..and I walked past Michaels without going in! Course..Mr. Z yanking on my elbow kinda gave me no choice! ;)

SACBARB: Where the heck are you??

    ReplyDelete
  114. DIANNE: I like big Frank too... ;)

Sorry about your horses today..my sweethearts did pretty good! :D

    ReplyDelete
  115. Well, this Owl is hitting the hay. Good night all and Sweet Dreams!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Zona - Yes Tia is particularly a
'low rider'. It does make for problems.
I like big Frank too, and his version of that song. I have listened to it many times today.

Bebbi - Good Night and don't worry. I know that easier said than done.

  117. Hello Everyone!

Amicus lives in Missouri. I have her address somwhere, if I can find it in my classroom. Last year she sent my student wonderful gifts.

Hi to you Amicus, if your watching.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Good Evening!!!

Hope everyone had an excellent day!!

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!

While i was gone today, plungerboy returned the plunger AND handed Mr. MEK a plate with eight home made cookies on it....... So, the plunger is BBAAAACCCCCKKKKKK!!!
    eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww........

    ReplyDelete
  119. iteach - That would be great if you could just find out if Amicus is okay. If she wanted to leave cyberspace that's fine but I would like to know that she is all right.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Mek - What did you do with the cookies? I am sure they are fine but as you said eewwwwwww.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Dianne- NO, I did not watch the game - we didn't get it here - SO, I am not responsible for the loss!! bummer!! (and I'm sorry to read about plumbing problem - hey, I have one you can borrow now!!)
    :-)

Zona - Good for you - NOT going into Michael's - did you clip your 50% off coupons, though??!!

Just Lin - Thank you for thinking of me when you saw Michael's.. we'll have to start saving coupons for you!!

Lani - I think after I finally get my sausage biscuit - I'll be fine for awhile - the novelity will wear off!! If you know what I mean??

EBJ - great march to 100!!

Bebbi - YES, flannel is the best!!

Tinka - thanks for the history of the song -

waving howdy to EVERYONE!!! I had an excellent day -- but an exhausting one!!!!

    Lani -

    ReplyDelete
  122. Tinka - sadly, we did throw them away - I am not really sure what kind of cookies they were - and I tend to not eat things that i don't really know who made them - and I have never met the new neighbors, just the kids!!

    ReplyDelete
  123. MEK somehow someone carrying a plunger and a plate of cookies seems wrong!

The Raiders and 49ers both won today! That must be some kind of record for the bay area!

The Raider fans leaving the game were met by the Oakland PD who were trying to prevent them from driving home drunk.

I am feeling a little guilty about complaining about how cold it is here (45 today) when some of our owls are truly in freezing temps.

So time for me to go warm up with MR. EBJ.

    Nite hooters!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Mek - I would have thrown them away too. As EBJ says, there's something that doesn't seem right - plunger and cookies..

I heard that story about the lyrics to "Have.......Christmas" when I watched the commentary of "Meet Me in St. Louis". I did check my facts however after I was wrong about Linda Thompson writing the "Raising Up" song. I love trivia like that.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Just-Lin - You have got me interested in the movies featured in the video. I haven't seen them so I must find them.

    ReplyDelete
  126. EBJ and Tinka - EXACTLY what I thought!! glad to know that I am not alone!!

    thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Hello Owls.

Zona, Thanks for missing me. I worked at Christmas Promise until 9pm. It was VERY busy. We had an orientation for the Santa's and helpers. 70 Santa's will be going out on Christmas Eve to deliver gifts to almost 300 families. Each Santa has a helper and a driver. They will be very busy.

Dianne, I can send you a new black and silver shirt. It won't be any trouble at all.

MEK, I wouldn't eat cookies that were that close to a plunger either. ewwwwwwwwww

    ReplyDelete
  128. J/L Thanks for the song today. I am wishing everyone a merry little Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Hi SacBarb. Hope you had a good day.

I have washed the snow off my little ones feet for the last time tonight. I am off to bed to say prayers for anyone who has to travel in this snow to get home for Christmas. May the Angels be out in full force. God Bless us and Keep us Safe Tonight.
    Love, Tinka

    ReplyDelete
  130. MEK- Those plate of cookies from the plunger go right up there with our local funeral home having a Christmas Open House.

    ReplyDelete
  131. SacBarb - glad you had a good day!!

Iteach - yes, that open house was a very strange idea!!

    Tinka - good nite!!

and - i am off to bed also..

I hope everyone has an excellent Monday!!
    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  132. Speaking of NO NUTS, I remember when SLIN and I went to Denny's for Ice cream sundaes. I ordered mine without nuts and when he looked at SLIN for her order she looked up at him and said, "Hi no nuts". There may have been a slight pause between hi and no nuts. We could not stop laughing.

TINK, I am glad you aren't as worried about the weather.

MEK, I guess your lost plunger poster was a good hint for them to return the plunger. Did it have one of those sanitized tapes across it? I vote with everyone else regarding the cookies. I still think you might think about putting the plunger in a plastic bag, Just in case.

MARY, I am so glad nothing important snapped off of MR. MARY. Oh, and BTW, what happens in the NEST stays in the NEST. Mum is the word, we didn't hear a thing!

BEBBI, ditto TINK, try not to worry, however, I know how many times I have worried about my daughter even driving in a down pour.

Hi to SACBARB. Are you getting much rain up your way?

KGRL, Stay healthy in all the cold weather.

SHIRLEY, It was good to see you. Were you still hung over this morning after the party?

    ReplyDelete
  133. I haven't caught up on the comments, but did want to share some "food porn" with you haha

The cheesecake was amazing if I do say so myself!:)

There are no signs that the spaghetti dinner ever existed! lmao

    PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE

    ReplyDelete
  134. Lani, it has been raining here for three days. And it is cold (for Sac). I know it colder for some of the other Owls, but......

Joey, Your pumpkin cheesecake looked delish.

Good night everyone. I hope you all have a great Monday.
