Stayin’ Alive

Chosen by Tina~in_ut

Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees

I love disco. I can’t sit still when I hear it. I think The Bee Gees ARE disco. I love all the music from Saturday Night Fever. What I didn’t know and think is an incredible coinkidink is that a study done by the University of Illinois medical school stated that “Stayin’ Alive” is an ideal song to listen to while performing chest compressions on someone who has just suffered a heart attack. The American Heart Association calls for chest compressions to be given at a rate of 100 per minute in CPR. This song almost perfectly matches that at 103 beats per minute. I guess I should also mention that “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen also has pretty much the same beat, but doesn’t seem as appropriate a song as “Stayin’ Alive”. Who said disco wasn’t alive and well?

  2. Tina~ loved the video and I can only imagine how fast it would be to do chest compressions to Stayin Alive. Btw, I also liked the Bee Gees.

    BBL, need more coffee.

  8. TINA: I love disco too...and this soundtrack really is a winner. I remember buying it when it was first released, and pretty much wearing it out. In fact, I remember I bought it the night I almost ran the car into the record store wall!! But that's a story for another day..lol..

I think the CPR connection to "Stayin' Alive" is so interesting. Now, make sure you sing that song and not "Another One Bites the Dust" if you ever have to give me CPR....kay?? ;)

I loved your blog today!! I don't know if I should be listening to this song right before I go to sleep though..I'll be boppin' in my bed. Wait..that could be a good thing... ;)

  9. RONNIE...I'm fine. Waiting for the "morning post nasal drip" to go away and then have some breaky!! TMI??????? Are you going to do anything fun today?

  12. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first Ronnie!!!

Tina now both of those songs are going through my head and I will never look at CPR the same! I hope I don't have to chose which song to keep time with as Another One Bites the Dust comes to mind faster and I can remember the first part of the lyrics, unlike Stayin Alive. I will have to remember not to sing it while doing CPR.

I am kind of up and moving. Only had a 1/2 cup of coffee so that post may not make much sense.

Zona No More Running! Hope your knee is better today.

MO I saw the NY HWives. Geez! Mesmerized again! LOL

Be back after I hit the coffee carafe again and let the dogs out.

  17. Good Morning Hooters!!

Congrats on 1st Ronnie, and hi Mo, Zona and Lynn.

Great blog tina~ now I am going to be singing that song all day long. I will have to ask my son if they turn the Bee Gee's on in the ambulance when they do CPR! LOL

Zona- you crack me up with "another one bites the dust". tee hee

Geez, the post office line was so long yesterday that I never got back in the nest. Just kidding, but one thing led to another and I was busy all day doing stuff. Today is taking the tree down day, a job I detest ;(

I wish I had a video camera going this morning. We had ice last night and it is a rink outside. Pepper runs out and fetches the paper each morning for me and this morning was a riot.

She ran out of the garage, hit the driveway and slid all the way down almost to the street and into a snow bank. Watching her trying to get back up the driveway was hysterical. She looked like a new calf or colt trying out her legs for the first time. She made it but she was sure confused!!! I'm not going anywhere today in this stuff.

I have not had the time or energy to properly thank everyone for the beautiful Christmas cards they sent me or the gifts...but know how much I appreciated them all and I will get my Thank you's out soon!!

Today is going to be my first attempt ever to make homemade bread! I got a KitchenAid mix master for Christmas and I am going to give the bread hook a whirl.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and everyone feels better who is sick.

  18. HI MEK!!!!! I was typing when you got on!

Zona - how's the knee today?

MO - thanks for the lyrics..

I'll be singing that song ALL day!!

Tina - thanks for picking Sunday's music...... I just LOVE disco!! brings back LOTS of memories...

    morning, Ronnie, MO, Zona,
Lynn d, and all who land!!

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
    :-)

  20. HI goldie!!!

you will LOVE your kitchenaide - OMG!!!!!!!!

    and - poor Pepper!!
    :-)

you need to get a flip!!

have a good one and stay safe...

    ReplyDelete
  21. MEK- I already love it! I used it to make cookies on christmas night. Kyle and I wanted to try it out. It is red (the same color as my kitchen) and beautiful and shiney. Who knew I would love an appliance????????
Let's see how I love it after I try the bread.

I didn't even ask for it. I just had commented to Mr. Goldie one day walking thru Macy's that I had always wanted one. He remembered and went back and got it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. GOLDIE...imagine the batches of "brownies" you can make in that KitchenAid!! Hope the bread turns out well.

MEK...good morning to you. Are you feeling better?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love the Bee Gees and disco!

I love to crank it up and dance with the kiddies!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Okay, yesterday, I went to look at the multi-vitams at Wal-Mart.

There was a lot to pick from!

    I couldn't decide.

    Any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good morning!

    Congrats today Ronnie!! Yipee!

OK I love this song! I have to admit, I watched most of the video focused on trying to figure out if the middle brother's tight white pants have a zipper or not!

When I took CPR class in May, the instructors did indeed teach us compressions while playing "Stayin Alive".

They told us if we ever had to perform CPR, to mentally sing and do compressions to it, and you would be giving the correct number per minute.

Goldie a red kitchen sounds awesome! I'd love to see pics of it.

I went to someone's house recently and everything in her kitchen is PINK.

Yes, she is a Mary Kay consultant.

It was so strange seeing a pink toaster, pink blender, pink coffee pot, etc.

She did have a gorgeous pink Cadillac in the driveway...

    Have a nice day everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Happy Day before school starts! :)

Ronnie, congrats on first! LOL @ half the firsts this year!

Tina, that song brings back so many memories!! I was dating a guy then who really thought he was Barry Gibb. He was soooo good looking! So many girls were after him that I thought I was hot stuff dating him. He turned out to be a dud, though. :)

Lynn, LOL @ not singing Another One Bites the Dust while doing CPR. Can you imagine doing that? Yikes!

Mo, I hope your post nasal drip stops soon! Yuck. LOL

Zona, so sorry about your knee. From someone whose hands fly out and hit door frames all the time, I understand. :)

MEK, I hope taking the tree down isn't so bad.

Goldie, have fun with your new mix master machine!! What kind of bread are you making?

iteach, I take so many vitamins now that I feel like I'm 80 years old! I use the Centrium multi-vitamin, the viactive calcium chews (three a day), an iron pill and sublingual B-12 pills (three a day). All that may be too much for you--ask your doctor. You probably don't need the extra iron pill as iron is in the multi-vitamin.

EBJ, our old house had a pink kitchen when we moved in. I lived with it for quite a few years before I just couldn't take it anymore! LOL

Okay, back to the closet. I'm really going to finish today! :/

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok read the morning news had some more coffee and getting ready to start chores. Last day home for Mr. Lynn D as vacation for him will be over. Back to getting up early but in some ways I am ready for him to go back. LOL

Goldie I keep thinking I want the kitchenaide mixer and then I mentally slap myself and realize then Mr. Lynn D would expect me to use it! I am thinking about going with red accents in my kitchen but more of a 1940's theme. Maybe red cherries?

MEK hope you are feeling better!

Iteach Mr. Lynn D always looks for all natural vitamins. His favorite is I think Nature Made? I need to take them but don't because all vitamins seem to upset my stomach. Then I burp up that icky taste in my mouth all day. Yuck!

Hi EBJ pink kitchen well if it makes her happy.....pink is not a favorite color of mine.

    Off to start laundry.

    ReplyDelete
  28. RONNIEGIRL congrats on your #1 marathon

TINA great blog to get one started on a Sunday morning. Since Stayin Alive is good for CPR maybe Another One Bites the Dust would be a good name for a funeral home.

MO you are one busy OWL this morning, waiting for your omelet and waiting for PND to go away.

I hope your knee will be better when you wake up later today ZONA.

ITEACH I keep meaning to ask how Carolyn likes her new big girl bed.

Good morning LYNN I hope you don't have to find out which one.

GOLDIE, MR GOLDIE is one great attentive husband. Congrats to him for picking up on the appliance.

I hope you are a whole lot better MEK.

ebj nOW IF YOU HAVE TO PERFORM cpr ALL YOU ARE GOING TO SEE IS THE MIDDLE BROTHER'S ZIPPER or lack there of. A friend up the street has the most beautiful tomato red kitchen sink. It totally fascinates me.

I am constantly leaving the caps key. I usually have to type everything twice. I thought I would try to be less anal for once.

    A GREAT SUDAY TO EVERYONE.

    ReplyDelete
  29. SCIRISH - I hope your back is much better today.

BARB - Rest and recuperate-feel better soon

HODI-I hope you have recovered from your surprise 12 hour shift.

    I need a CANADIAN fix!

  30. Lani: William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's Prime Minister during WW2, was a lifetime bachelor who consulted with mediums.

Did that qualify as a Canadian hit? LOL!

Tina: Here's another one to whip us all up into a disco fever today! Enjoy:

    Rock Your Baby!

    From A51: Hi, Mary!

    Carol: YW! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mornin'!

Ronnie Congrats on #1! Let's see if you can keep that percentage going 'til the end of the year. :)

Tina Isn't Disco great? Always puts me in a good mood. That's very interesting about the CPR and good to keep in mind. LOL @ Another One Bites the Dust!

Lani LOL at needing a Canadian fix!

    ReplyDelete
  32. BEAR, Do I need a medium to contact
William Lyon Mackenzie King, or is he still around to come and blog with us?
Due to your crab comments the other day I am now on a crab binge.:)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi SLIN-you are up bright and early. Well sort of

    ReplyDelete
  34. So I listened and WATCHED Rock your Baby. In turn, it reminded me of the song (can't remember the name ) Sexual Feelings. One thing seems to be leading to another today.

    ReplyDelete
  35. BEAR ABSOLUTELY YES!!! Was it as good for you??

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow thanks Tina! Now, should I ever have to do CPR, I will sing one or the other, depending on how bad whoever is on the receiving end looks. I should probably just sing silently in my head, though, right?! :D

I hope everyone is having a great day, and feeling well!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. iteach I forgot to respond to your vitamin question. Vitamins are too big for me to swallow. I had a scary choking episode once so now I take a Viactiv chewable daily. They also make a calcium chewable but I don't care for the taste so I take a couple of Citrical Petites (includes vitamin D to help with absorbtion). I almost always drink milk with dinner, also.

  38. Ronniegirl~Way-to-go on # 1 today!

Tina~ I love the Disco Sound! When we do DJ, "Dancing Queen is always requested!
btw, every football team sang "Another one Bites the Dust" after playing the Detroit Lions LOL!!

EBJ, I was mesmerized by his tight pants too, but I was looking for something besides his zipper, if-you-get-my-drift!!

Whabbear, I loved that song! Believe it or not I sing that at Karaoke, even the high "ah ha s" lol!! I watched "Don't Rock the Boat", while in utube.

LynnD,ROTF, "Mr LynnD would expect me to use it"!

iteach, I take Centrum, but only half a pill at a time. For some reason my body doesn't tolerate vitamins.I get headaches if I take a whole one. Strange eh?

    ReplyDelete
  39. MO: Thanks for posting the lyrics! I've been singing this song for years and it looks (or sounds) like I've gotten the words wrong the whole time!! LOL...

GOLDIE: Well whattya know..Pepper and I seem to have a lot in common!! Hope she is ok!

How'd the hookin' go today with your new KitchenAid???

    MEK: OUCH..thump thump OUCH...lol..

    ReplyDelete
  40. ITEACH: I don't take multi-vitamins. I have the same problem with them as EBJ, they give me a headache. Mr. Z takes the Wal-Mart multi though..and it seems to give him a lot of energy...which can be a wonderful thing! :D

SANDIE: Do you hit your elbows too?? I always seem to miss the turns..and I've lived in this house almost my whole life. You'd think I'd have it mapped out better!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. TINA - Love the Bee Gee's!!! Thanks for the video today....although I'm not much in the mood for a disco HOdown!!!

    RONNIE - Congrats on first!!!

    ZONA - How's your knee?

Just wanted to stop by and say Hi. I've spent the weekend....well, ummmmm....how shall I say, in the "library". Not how I would recommend losing any weight!!

BEAR: Can't wait to check out your link..you never disappoint!! ;)

    J/LIN: MORNING!!!!! :D

NN/LL: Singing to yourself would probably be a good idea in that situation. Unless it's me...then you can warble as loud as you like!! :D

OOOOPS...It was MARY that got the headaches from the vitamins..sorry!! Sometimes I think my brains are in my knee!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. JODI: I hope you feel better soon..you must be getting lots of reading done! ;)

  57. Hi Hooters, the bread turned out great and we 'snacked' on half a loaf with butter while it was warm! Needless to say, we didn't eat lunch.

Can't wait to whip up the 'special' brownies in that mixer.

Jodi- sorry you had so much reading to do. I took the p.s. to Illinois on Wed. and shared with the relatives. They are big fans too!

Tommorrow I am going to Curves to sign up- have to cut down on the bread, butter and cookies and crank up the movement!

Sleep tight and hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Tho there is a wee bit of excitement about possible snow...maybe my flight home will be delayed long enough that I get to squeeze my nephew!!! He arrives here on Wed am. Tho I don't think my boss would like that phone call very much.

Bee Gees...can't say I was ever into Disco but have to give em props for lasting so long.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hiya hooters,

Mary I was kinda looking for a "package" in the tight whites, but didn't see one.

I was looking for his zipper, the pants looked zipper-less til about half way through, then I think I saw a zipper!

Which of the 3 brothers died?

We had fresh crab for dinner, yummm. We are having a Super Bowl party here next month, so now I want to try and make crab cakes to serve.

I've never made them before (eaten lots of them, tho! haha).

For those of you who saw the "Reindeer Porn" picture I put on Myspace, my neighbor finally removed them from his front lawn! The reindeer were in that graphic position only about 2 weeks!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tina,

    ReplyDelete
  71. EBJ, when my oldest son was a senior in high school, he and his friends would go "deer humping" around the holidays and do that to people with those deer in their yards. At one house they moved Mary and Joseph over to "watch." I was so mad at him when I found out but did chuckle a bit when he left the room.

I wonder if some kids did that to your neighbor. It sure took him long enough to notice though!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tina! I keep missing you! Sure hope you have an uneventful flight!

    Carol, goodnight, sweet dreamzzzzz

Jodi, we call the "library", "Archie Bunker's reading room" lol!! Hope you are using "Charmin!"

Sandie~ that is funny...sorta....kinda~ did you spank them?~

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sandie, that is pretty funny! Putting Mary and Joseph over to watch!

My mom told me someone did that to their neighbor's reindeer too.

We have some mischievous kids in this neighborhood. We had a problem with ring the doorbell and runners, until one day recently when MR. EBJ happened to be in the garage and heard the kids coming up the driveway.

He heard the doorbell and saw them run, so went after them and made them take him to their house. He had a talk with the parents and they have not rang and run since!

I would bet that those boys are the ones who positioned the deer! haha

Which one in the video is Maurice?

    Mary :)

  75. EBJ, Mourice is the one who played the piano and wore a brimmed
hat. He is hard to recognize in the video. I guess I am remembering him as he last looked.

Tina, You will always be worth missing lol
