Robins

by Iteach

This past week I walked outside to find signs of spring, to be exact I was looking for a robin. In the past ( in my 20's) I always knew it was spring due to the fashion magazines that came in my mailbox. I would anxiously find out the new "color" of the season and what length of skirt to wear. Back then spring also meant new "highlights" put in my hair and new make-up to go with the seasons new "color". Spring was also the time to dream of a new summer romance. Robins were the farthest thing from my mind. In fact I didn't think they were that pretty to get excited about.

In the past I can vaguely remember the veteran teachers in the hallway talk about seeing the first robin and how excited there faces looked. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what was so exciting about seeing a robin. I usually walked right by and did not participate in that conversation. I really didn't think I was the type of girl who cared at all about the signs of spring in nature.

When did it all change and why? Probably a mixture of maturity and new interests. I no longer receive fashion magazines and I have no idea what the new spring color is this season. Finding the first robin and watching the grass turn green really does bring a lot of joy in my life. It puts a smile on my face and skip in my step. I truly enjoy just the simplicity and miracle of it all.

The robin goes to the south in the winter and is the first bird to come back when it is spring in my region (Illinois). They are the first to lay eggs in the spring and the eggs are a pretty shade of blue. Now that my eyes are more wide open I can see the beauty of the robin and the joy it brings to so many.

  2. Hey Bebbi! Good morning and congrats on first!

iteach, I love robins, too, and I always feel the hope of a new spring season when I see one. Thanks for reminding me to look for a robin today!

Heading to the drop the poodles off for grooming and going to the gym. Have a great day!

  5. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first Bebbi!

Iteach I can usually tell spring is around the corner when we start hearing tree frog choruses. We had one last night. They get so loud around my house they drown out car noise. Then the ducks move in and start having babies. Then it is time to start mowing the damn grass! The first time you feel so great that spring is here and then by the third mowing you just want to napalm or pave the whole yard.

Sending as many ((((Hugs)))as Shirley can stand!

Bon'O so good to see you post. I was very sad about Natasha Richardson dying yesterday. I saw Liam on The Daily Show about a month ago and John Stewart asked about his wife and kids. You could tell that he very much loved his wife and family. His face lit up and there was such a look of peace and joy. It breaks my heart thinking about that.

    Hey Lani where are you?

Ok need some coffee. Be back in a bit.

  6. Good Morning Hooters!
    congrats on 1st Bebbi

iteach- I love it when the Robins start coming back. They have been in my trees for a couple of weeks now. The cardinals are back and singing too. While I enjoy it right now, in a few months it will bug the shit right out of me!!

We have a huge pine that towers over our house and is situated in the corner off our bedroom. So, before you know it those same lovely creatures will be singing their damn brains out at 4:30 AM everyday!!!

Good morning to MEK, Lois, lynn and bonacci!

The countdown begins- the kids are on the road and should be here in less than 6 hours!

  8. Happy Thursday!!!

Iteach - EXCELLENT BLOG today - thank you for sharing.....

After we moved here - I had a friend ask me about the "beautiful springtime in the desert" - I was confused, cuz all i saw was rock and cactus....

SO, the following year - i really paid attention - and noticed that most cactus really do BLOOM and there were some pretty colors, etc.

Guess it takes seeing something thru the eyes of others to notice it yourself......

    Thank you again...

  11. Good Morning Bebbi - You really got first this morning. Where did the competition go today?

Good Morning Sandie - I bet your 'fur babies' will look even more beautiful than ever this afternoon. My two were done on Monday. I love the first few days after a grooming. They are especially soft.

  12. Good Morning Lois, bonacci, Lynn, Mek East Bay J and Goldie.
Hope you are having a lovely spring day.

  13. Iteach - I loved your blog today. Spring is such a special time of year. We have robins all year round but when I see the first snow drop peeking its head through the soil I get so excited.
I remember the days of checking fashion magazines. It seems like a hundred years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lynn - I felt very sad about Natasha Richardson too. It just said on the radio that the ambulance that arrived at the scene was sent away because the accident didn't seem serious. I wonder if should could have been saved with early treatment.
I feel sorry for the ski resort too. They will feel the heat.
As someone mentioned yesterday we can almost see Liam's grief after watching him in "Love Actually". He was so good in that movie. I enjoyed Natasha in "Parent Trap" too.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Goldie - Have fun with your babies. We had the 11th birthday party for my grand daughter on Sunday. It seems like yesterday I was giving her day care. Now she is a little lady.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mek - My Christmas cactus blooms every year but it usually blooms a couple of weeks before Christmas. Must feed my babies. Have a great day everyone.

VIG - I hope you get home today.

Zona-My-Baby - Have a good one. Love from your cyber mom.

  17. Happy Thursday Owls.

I teach, I love watching for the birds at the beginning of Spring. I have a dove couple that nests in my carport every year. They have already had two babies hatch and sadly, one of them died. But the trees are in bloom and the daffodils have also bloomed, so Spring is here in Northern CA.

Zona, I loved your blog yesterday. My parents weren't demonstrative with us but I don't think I ever doubted that they loved me. My kids and I have always said "I love you" to each other and we still do. My Hubby and I didn't say it every day, but we always kissed each other hello and goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bon, Good to see you posting. Hope all is well with you.

    Bebbi, Congrats on #1-5.

Goldie, How fun that the grandbabies will be there soon.

Jodi & EBJ, Happy belated birthday to you both. Sorry I missed it.

Hi to Carol, Sandie, NN, Bonacci, MEK, LynnD, Tinka and all who land later. I am leaving soon to go see Avenue Q which is a musical with muppet-like puppets in it. Should be fun. BBL

    ReplyDelete
  19. SacBarb - Good Morning. Have fun at the musical.

Once again I shut the blog down for 90 minutes. I think I must be a jinx. Have fun everyone.

  20. Tink- I am ready to pee my pants I am so excited, they are only an hour and a half away!!!!!! LOL

thanks to all of you who are excited for me!

Won't be on much the next several days- but I will always be thinking about you owl's.

EBJ- hope Paula is doing better soon.

    Shirley- ((HUGS))

MEK- the afterglow is wonderful too (and I'm not talking sex). I'm so happy you got to go see your precious nephew's.
Sorry about the cold- I really don't think it was trying to catch me, I'm sure it was an allergy.

My nephew went for testing- he is allergic to dust, pollen, cats and dogs. What the frick does that leave? Oh, and they have a dog, a cat, houseplants and 2 Day-goo's or however you spell those little critters. Oy
My niece(9) said that they could give her brother (7) away, but not her pets!! LOL

    Hey bonbon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Bon'O: Nice to see you yesterday I hope you come back round more often.

Carol: I made time to play, but I am so so busy at work.

Where the heck is Eunice: Did the hair rollers pull too hard on her hairs and make her pass out or something?

Bear: Your comment on FB had me rolling this morning. Seriously.

I'm off to get the gray out of my hair.

No highlights just the grey out.

I'm off to the beauty school. My hair is really really thick. It is way to hard to do it at home.

  28. True Story-

This morning I took Matthew out of the van. As he was getting out he rubbed his hand across his nose. Then he looked at his hand and noticed he had a booger on it it.

He had a big look of disappointment on his face.

He then looked at me sadly with his gorgeous big blue eyes and said

"Oh, mom my booger came out. Could you put it back in my nose for me?"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jodie- I say the same thing about my kids when they are sick. lol

    ReplyDelete

iteach Beautiful blog today. I don't have any robins here yet. I did notice the other day that my wysteria is starting to get new growth. It won't be long until it has those beautiful lavender blooms cascading down. I love that!

Goldie Have fun with those babies!

  37. Iteach, I read your blog, not yet caught up on the comments.
I saw the Robin picture and smiled a mile! I saw my first Robins this morning! I can't tell you how happy that made me. They were gathering bits of grass for their nests. I came home from my tests (torture chamber), and saw them again. It is a big thing here in Mich. a sure sign of spring! :)

I was 4 hrs. waiting, getting poked and zapped, mostly waiting! It was very painful. I had tears flowing! I usually have a high pain threshold. It didn't help that I didn't get much sleep last night. I know, wa wa wa lol!
I will discuss the all results of the test with my reg.Dr. I was told that I do have a pinched nerve.

BBL, if I don't fall asleep....

  38. Mary I'm so sorry about the pain today. Hopefully, you will never have to do that again.

  40. Is it too soon to show off my Easter bonnet? I hope Eunice doesn't get jealous. :)

  41. Hi HooterPals!! ~~

Iteach, love your 'Welcome Spring' blog! As if on cue, the neighbors' pink-blossomed cherry tree has gone, over this week, from a bare grey skeleton to a red silhouette of the leaves to come, to the deep dark pink promise of blossoms--some just beginning to burst into a pale powdery pink.

Watching them yesterday, I was reminded of microwave popcorn....why must it always come back to food?? The dark buds, one-by-one, are popping so quickly! For a brief moment, the tree will be all fluff.....then, just as quickly, they'll be gone. Our robins have returned, and I love waking to all the songbirds! I can't wait for the annual return of Mr. & Mrs. (UofO) Duck to the backyard.

Jodi I so wish I was over the crap going around but it is still clinging to me. I have renamed my home to Plague house. May have to go to the doc.

Mary I am so sorry you are in pain!

I am preparing to fly! Can you hear me wheezing?

  48. Good Afternoon/Evening my Owl friends!

JUST/LIN: I think it is ok to have your Easter bonnet..I put my Easter bunny/owl on last night..late. Where were you by the way? ZONA AND JODI were the only ones I could stir up.

I had to go to the dentist today for a check-up, met my friend for quick lunch and then my daughter called to see if I could pick up my granddaughter at school as she was sick. She mostly is coughing. I about hab to bop the nurse to let her go. She told me she saw "Kayla laugh with her friends today and so she didn't think she was really sick." Tomorrow is her last day of CSAP tests and an assembly for her to get her first Honor Roll for 4th grade certificate so hope she is better. On the way to the school, I felt something in my mouth and a piece of a back tooth chipped off..hmmm, wonder if the dentist had anything to do with it?

LYNND: I am sorry you are still feeling bad. I thought those m&m's would be great pills for you.

BONO: You are lucky to be seeing spring...as it seems many of you are starting to see. We have Spring like weather but still waiting for our snow for the winter..March is our snowiest month. I did see some dandelions today.

    ReplyDelete
  49. MARY: How do they do that test to check for a pinched nerve? Sorry it hurt so much. You had better have an adult beverage and some candy!

TINK: I don't think you really shut the blog down..you just post when everyone might be taking their nap. I can smell your buns (Hot Cross Buns) all the way here in Colorado.

I have to tell all of you that regardless of the economy, wars, whatever..our lead story every night this week has been about our Bronco QB (Jake Cutler) being mad at our new coach and not showing up for a manatory meeting on Monday. He "wants to be traded" but has three years left on his contract. No offense MARY...but some of the reporters are suggesting he go to the Detroit Lions for their first draft pick and maybe he won't be so much of a baby!! Even the headlines of the one paper (other one shut down 2 weeks ago) is Cutler. I am going to the internet to get the real news!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bon'O xoxox to you, too!

Dianne I love your bunny/owl outfit. Very becoming. I especially like the bunny slippers. I hope I'm not overdressed with my bonnet. Sorry, your granddaughter is sick. I hope she feels better in the morning.

I wasn't around the nest real late last night because now that I am getting ready to leave in two days, one of my old cats has gotten a urinary tract infection. I had to get up early and get her into the veterinary hospital. :(

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Dianne! I'd stick with the sports news if I were you...just popping in here while watching the nightly episode of 'Crooks & Liars', aka the national news.

Before you get too jealous of our Spring...I remember posting late snow pics to MS on APRIL 20th last year. That's one way to hide the dandelions!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Miss Bonnie so good to see you!

Aunt Mary I'm so sorry that your test had to be painful today.

I truly enjoyed reading everyone's comments. I'm so glad that there is a lot of you out there that also appreciate the robin.

I also loved hearing everyone's spring updates. Who has which new flower sprouting or there favorite parts about spring. I can picture all those in my mind. I know it sounded corny.

    ReplyDelete
  53. J/L~~Is this just an awful pet season for some reason? EBJ's poor Paula, Tink's and other Owls' recent issues. Dang, even Martha Stewart & Oprah have just lost new pups they adopted after old beloved pets crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Crossing fingers for my Mick & Willa, who just celebrated their tenth birthday on the 15th.

Wild Wing Waves at TEACH!! Gee, feels like that should be accompanied with an "Ooh, ooh, Mr. Kotter" :-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bon'O LOL @ Mr. Kotter! There has been a lot of pet problems lately, hasn't there? I figure mine is because I'm going away for a week so of course there has to be some drama.

  55. Good Evening OWLETTES!!!

    HEY BonO...
    WELCOME BACK!!!!
I have missed you very much...

Hey just Lin... Where are you going ??
    may I ask??
    not to be too nosey...

I just had a reallt weird night.. it seemed that town was more quiet than usual.. I am out doing deliveries...
not very amny.. and it is a weird vib in teh air.. I can't expllain it.. then when I get from a delivery on of the young girls that works there ask me if I had heard about the gang intiations tonight...I said no.... wellll there are supposed Gang initiations to be happening in our little valley tonight... MS13 are to kill 3 women in the area tonight... the colleges sent out text messages to all the students.. and they arrested 3 members of MS13 at the college in the next town over .. just last night .. said that they were checking it out for initiation night...

so they are telling all women to not go to walmart or any convience store tonight...
Kinda scary... I knew they (MS13) were in the area... we have had murders here before... just last Sunday I was watching History channel and it was about gangs and they had an hour segment on the murder that happened here a couple years ago...

    ReplyDelete
  56. BONO: I have to laugh at what you call the national news. I think it does seem pretty accurate lately.

Did you all know that Obama is going to be on Leno tonight? It is the first time a current President has been on a talk show.

ITEACH: That is so funny what your little boy wanted you to do. Hopefully, you will train him right now no more picking...you know how some men do at red lights...gross?

I hope all your pets start feeling better. JUST/LIN; Are you able to leave yours home and does someone check in on them or just what do you do?

I am not much of a pet person but I went to my friend's house recently and she was dog-sitting a Yorkie. It was the cutest little four pound dog I had ever seen. It jumped all the way up in my lap and I let it stay. It just kept looking at me with the cutest eyes. I told my daughter when I am older and have to live with them, I will get one so I don't have to worry about the clean up. I tried to convince them I should get one now and they could just keep it for me...that didn't go over too well since they already have two little dogs.

  57. IBB: That is scary. Please be careful.

    ReplyDelete
  59. IBB Yes, please be very careful. These gang members are such cowards, IMHO. I am just going down to SoCal to spend time with my mom who is turning 81 on the 26th.

Dianne Lani was going to pet sit but the sick cat is pretty skittish so now that she has to be medicated everyday, I'm just boarding her at the hospital. Tomorrow, I will take the 19 yr old in, too, so they can keep each other company while I'm gone. Lani is still going to come by and bring in my mail and refill the bird feeders for me. She is such a great freind. :)

  70. Carol: I agree with you completely. Life is so fragile, the older I get the more I see it. My daughter hit her head really hard and was in the hospital overnight last September. Every time I see someone with brain injuries, etc. I think of how lucky our family is that she was okay. I worry too much.
