I got a call from my sister last week. She was in tears. Somehow, a dog had gotten into her backyard and killed 2 of her cats. Wait, not just killed......this dog ripped them apart. Mr. Z and I went over there to try and calm her down and help dispose of the remains. It was just so sad.
She told me that she walked into the backyard after work and stood face to face with the dog. It had a collar and tags, so it wasn't a stray. She screamed and it started towards her, and then veered off towards the side of her house. She got the hose and ran around the corner, but it was gone. It's hard to believe, but it looks like the dog climbed over her 6 ft block fence.
This isn't the first time this has happened. Each time, she calls animal control, and each time, they say they can't do anything until a person is hurt. WTC!!! Don't they realize that that's probably exactly what will happen next? There are little kids playing on my sister's street all day. They ride their bikes up and down the sidewalk and run back and forth through each others yards. Animal Control just doesn't seem to get it. She's warned them and warned them. I would hate to see such a tragedy happen, but unfortunately, I think it's only a matter of time before it does.
And what about the owners of this dog? Where are they? How can they just let this animal run around the neighborhood, killing other people's pets and endangering everyone else? I just don't understand any of this at all.
I love animals and my sister means the world to me. This whole situation just breaks my heart.
he-he~
ReplyDeleteI say shoot the dog!!!! Or poison!!! I'll think of other ways later~ :D
ReplyDeletei gotta get rid of these curlers~
ReplyDeleteoff to work~
ReplyDeleteThat's terrible Zona. :(
ReplyDeleteTina, congratulations you sexy beast. Those rollers make the outfit!
Owls are awesome! Thanks for all the welcome back messages yesterday! Made me all warm and fuzzy!
ReplyDeleteZona...what a sad, sad story! Your poor sister! Is she doing okay? Do any of her neighbours know who the dog belongs to? Big Canadian sized hugs and thoughts for your sister!
Good morning to Tina and NoNewz and to the whole flock! Have a great Tuesday!
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Tina!
Zona that is horrible! How in the world is that dog getting over the fence? I hope she finds the owners and lets them know. That dog needs to be on a chain if not taken away before it does hurt someone.
So good to see Viggy back!!!
NN/LL That is horrible you were so sick. Glad you are feeling better and back in the nest!
MEK saw you posted yesterday. I hope you are on the mend too!
Goldie saw your blinged out picture! Great work Dee Dee! You do not look like Andy Warhol in anyway! LOL
Good Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st tina~
Zona, so sad. I have no idea why pet owners think it is ok to let their animals loose and free to roam. It seems that almost every other day there is something in the newspaper about someone being bit and needing to get rabies shots if the wayward animal can't be found.
In our neighborhood it is a cat that roams freely. Or did until the neighbors threatened to sue the owners. They would let it out at dusk to 'excersise' freely and it would kill the songbirds. Also killed and completely destroyed a nest that one neighbor had in her porch planter.
I'm so sorry for your sister and her pets. That mustly truely have been traumatic. Why animal control can't do something is beyond me.
Hi Lynn- tks for the compliment..:)
Hope you are feeling better Lois, and good morning to you too Vig!
Have a wonderful day everyone.
mustly?? Good heavens- must have
ReplyDeleteOMG, Zona! Hugs to your sister. That is really sad.
ReplyDeleteI'd kind of feel like shooting that dog!
Zona~OMG!!!! Your poor sister!!!! I cannot even imagine how she must feel. I don't get why Animal Control can't do anything, do you have leash laws??? Around here a dog can get picked up if it is running loose and the owner must pay a fine to get the dog back. I thought all communities had similar laws.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, I feel like shooting the owners rather than the dog!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the well-wishes. I am at the coughing stage but feel so much better, thank you!!! I think the 104 fever gave me a hind of dame bramage. :P
ReplyDeleteWaving a hooter to Whabbear, Scirish, Tina, Goldie, Lynn_D, Vig and all who fly in later.
Good Morning OWLETTES!!!
ReplyDeleteZona...how sad.. I agree with most everyone... shoot the dog and then the owners too...
Tina... congrats on 1st!!!
morning to...Tina NN/LL.... Vig...LynnD...Goldie...Whabby... Scirish...
Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Happy Tuesday Owls.
ReplyDeleteZona, That is so sad. Big Hugs to your sis. I'm with Scirish, shoot the owners.
Tina, congrats on first again.
NN/LL, I hope you are all healed but take care. I had pneumonia once and I did too much too soon and had a relapse. It was worse than the initial illness.
VIG, WB. How long before you leave for your big adventure?
LynnD, Hope you are feeling better.
Goldie, Your avatar looks like Mary Tyler Moore, imo.
Bear, Good morning.
Scirish, Hope you are feeling better today, too.
I'm off to get a haircut. BBL
IBB, good morning. Got chocolate????
ReplyDeleteN/N You must feel like a dish rag after all that!! And I'm with Barb, be careful how much you do!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning everyone.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the support and caring comments on my blog this morning. I'll make sure my sister sees them.
TINA: Congrats on FIRST! It's the 'he-he' in your second post that has me intrigued. Thank you for your ideas...I'll pass them along. goof.
VIG: Good to see you! The dog is still running loose. There are actually three dogs that run together now..which is even scarier.
LL/NN: So glad that you are feeling better.
LYNND: The dog climbs the fence just by jumping and going over. There are no footholds or anything..it must use sheer strength.
Baby pictures in aisle 10!!! Will post more later, as for some reason, I seem to have a quite a few :)
ReplyDeleteGOLDIE: You are lovely! DeeDee brought out the best in you!
ReplyDeleteI know that roaming cats can drive people nuts. These two were pretty much trapped in the backyard though. One was 15 years old, and couldn't get over the fence anymore..the other had a bad hip and also stayed in the backyard. Animal Control dropped the ball on this one big time.
SCIRISH: There are leash laws..but Animal Control told her that she must contain the dog so they can come and get it. I don't think so.
BEAR: I can't help but think that the owners are kinda more to blame than the dog.
A footnote to this story..a little dog was also killed in the alley behind my sister's house by two dogs a couple of hours later. One of them was this same dog.
IBB: I just don't want it to happen again..cuz she faced off with this dog..and that could have had a horrible outcome.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for all your concern about my migraine. I feel much better..and I know you all helped! :)
SCIRISH: Going to check now..
ReplyDelete25 for TINKA..
ReplyDeleteNN~ you need to milk the whole pneumonia thing...when I had it, I got lots of candy from my aunts and one gave me a big stuffed lion i called Smiley~ of course, I kinda was only 9 yrs old~ :D
ReplyDeleteTina Congrats on #1! It probably is time to take the rollers out of your hair and maybe flick that ass.....I mean ash. ;)
ReplyDeleteZona I feel so bad for your sister...and for the terror that her kitties went through. I understand there is nothing Animal Control can do since they don't know where the dog lives. I think I would find a pic of a dog that looks similar, make posters with the heading "KILLER ON THE LOOSE" with the number of Animal Control on it and also your sister's number if anyone can identify the dog. I'd post them all over the neighborhood. I would really put up a stink about this. I'd write something about it to the local paper, file a report with the police department. That dog came on to your sister's private enclosed property and destroyed her property (cats). I'd keep my eyes open for that dog and call Animal Control each and every time I saw it out and I would document each time I saw it out, too.
Congrats on first, Tina! (I'm going to just save this so I can cut and paste tomorrow.) :)
ReplyDeleteZona, I'm so sorry for your sister. How horrible. I agree that it's the owners who are to blame. The dog is just being a dog, although a very aggressive, naughty one. I am always amazed at people who will not take responsibility for their pets. It's so sad for the pets and horrible for the neighbors.
Has your sister tried calling the police? We did that in our neighborhood and they did a stake out to figure out who the dog belonged to and then went to the door and told the woman she would be fined if the dog was seen out again. It worked.
Lois, so glad you're feeling better. I'm not sure I've ever seen a waving hooter before! :)
Hi LynnD, Whabbear, IBB and SacBarb!
Goldie, I agree that your picture looks lovely!
Hi VIG, you little cutie!
Scirish, I'm off to look at your pics!
Hi Just_Lin!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandie! :)
ReplyDeleteLani and I had a friend who had a lot of cats and also 4 dogs. The cats were indoor only and she'd leave the dogs in while she was gone so they wouldn't bark and annoy the neighbors. This worked fine for years. Then one day, she arrived home to find that 3 of the dogs had formed a "pack" and slaughtered some of the cats. She immediately took the 3 dogs and had them put down. It was sad all the way around, really.
ReplyDeleteTINA-When I was in the hospital last year with pneumonia, I sure as heck didn't see candy and a stuffed lion from u. It must still be in the mail
ReplyDeleteZONA-glad to see you posted your blog. I would try the police too, before a child is hurt. I feel very sad for your sister I think JL idea is good about posting signs, etc
ReplyDeleteMaking a quick fly-by. I am going to the big city to watch my Grandson play baseball. It is his last year of school before going to college.
ReplyDeleteI just got a pkg from UPS. I don't have time to look closer, but so far all I see is the ransom note wth?
BBL
I really think all the lovely comments about my 'makeover' indicates I should have done it sooner! But knowing she works on Eunice worried me a bit....
ReplyDeleteJODI- bring that soup over, Inga Binga will be here tonight and we could use dinner!! :)
J/L OMG! What a horrible thing for your friend!! I think you have a very good point about Zona's sister calling the police. Especially since the cats were confined to her backyard. She has every right to expect her enclosed backyard to be safe!!!!! Those owners need a wake up call, especially if the dog is now running in a pack with other dogs.
ReplyDelete37
ReplyDelete38
ReplyDelete40...she shoots, she scores!!! (hey, I'm Canadian...it's legally required that I make hockey references!!!!)
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so sweet....thanks for the lovely WB comments!
ReplyDeleteNo Tinka marching here today...she must have felt well enough to go to Vancouver to celebrate her daughter's birthday! I am so happy for her....she was really looking forward to it!!
Zona...I am so glad you shared your sister's story. I am really sorry that she had to go through what she has but in telling her story there is a reminder for us all and one that I tend to forget about when I am out walking....that unleashed, roaming dogs are not always man's (or woman's) best friend and need to be considered a danger. Thank you, Zona, for writing this blog!!!
Hey Goldie!!! I'm hot!!!
ReplyDeleteZona..
ReplyDeleteAfter reading everyones comments.. I think Just Lin has the right idea.... I also agree with getting the police involved...i couldn't imagine coming home to find my kitty torn apart in my backyard...
I couldn't imagine the friend of JustLin... to find it in your home and knowing your dogs did it....
That is why my kitty only goes outside if we are home .. and only for about an hour.... especially during bear season!!!
Yes VIG.. I have learned that ... when delivering...if a dog is out where they can get me.. I ask if they are O.K.... before I get out of the car...
ReplyDelete50...WOOOHOOO...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the march IBB!
ReplyDeleteZONA - OMG - just reading this made me sick.... I can't imagine how difficult it had to be to deal with when it happened.....
ReplyDeletehugs to your sister, Mr. Zona and you!!!
This animal needs to be captured and put down - i agree with Just Lin to call the police.....
goodness.......
OH - this has turned my stomach inside out.......
I went out back earlier to water my newly planted strawberry plants and found a Canadian goose belly up in my yard. I called animal control and because I saw blood they told me they wouldn't come and get it because they can't test it for West Nile Virus if it is injured. WTH! So they advised me to wear gloves and with a shovel, put it in a doubled garbage bag and put it in the garbage can.
ReplyDeleteIt took me an hour to get the courage to do it. I know it isn't 5:00 yet (here anyway) but I just drank a glass of wine. I may just finish the bottle. I am still shaky.
P.S. The gloves went in right after the goose. Garbage day isn't until Friday!
ReplyDeleteSacBarb Sorry you had to do that. Our Peninsula Humane Society used to come out for dead animals but not any more. I guess it is due to budget cutbacks. When I had to have a dead raccoon removed, they referred me to a number for a private business which charged me $75.
ReplyDeleteSACBARB: "It's 5:00 somewhere"...like here!! You are a brave soul. I don't think I could do that even with a Sparrow! I hope it doesn't get too hot in your area. Is your trash can in the garage? Wonder what happened to the poor little bird?
ReplyDeleteMEK: Are you still sick? I think maybe it is doctor time, as this has been going on for too long now.
ZONA: It looks like we might be setting up a vigilante party to come to your sister's neighborhood. I think that dog and the owners need to be scared! I hope your sister is feeling better and maybe you should show her the blog and all the responses.
TINA: The UPS guy just came by and stopped and I thought it was the late delivery of my candy and lion but he went to another house! :(
I came in my office to work while my sil cleaned my carpets and I didn't do one thing..how typical is that for me? I'd like to get a quick nap before my husband comes home but there is no such thing as a "quickie nap" for me...so, guess I will see what I can pretend that I cooked for dinner.
Dianne, You are my hero. I also pretend to cook for guests (since I don't have a hubby). Of course they are all on to me, but I pretend I don't notice.
ReplyDeleteZona, I hope your sis is doing better after the ordeal she endured. Count me in on the vigilante committee to string up the owners.
MEK, our super powers are still in tact. Are you feeling any better at all?
J/L, I didn't think about paying someone to do it. I thought about leaving it for the gardener, but he doesn't come til Thursday and I was afraid, with the heat we are having, that would be way too long. My garbage is in the carport (we made the garage into a family room a long time ago) and I have to pass it when I go out. I have been teary eyed all afternoon. Maybe the wine is contributing. The bottle is not empty yet.
SacBarb I was hoping the wine would help. Maybe you should treat yourself to something nice for dinner.
ReplyDeleteDianne You crack me up!
J/L, I think the wine IS dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteHey TinaHO!

Kudos to you, for doing it, and drink as much wine as needed.. even if it means you get drunk.. as it is a well deserved drunkenness..
:O)
Zona..
ReplyDeleteIt is just terrible what happen to your sisters kitties.. I would have def informed the police, even if there is nothing the can do, at least there would have been a police report on file.. The dog should be put down, he/she has a violent temper, not good.
Your blog broke my heart as I know it did yours. I know how hard it must have been to share this, but I am glad you did, as at times, it is good to write the words, cause sometimes they help.
I hope your sister is doing better.

I have good news.. the girl that works for me at night, stopped by office 2day to get my office credit card to go shopping for me.. (see Dianne, reminds me of me).. She found a dog sitting across from my office, the dog had tags on it, so she put the dog in her car and drove to our town pound and got the address of the dogs owner, and brought the dog to its home. It seems Bonnie (the dogs name) got loose from the backyard..
ReplyDeleteSo owner and Bonnie were very happy..

JUST LIN...OMG. that is unreal. Did she ever see the dogs show any signs of aggression prior to that? How terrible.
SCIRISH...NOAH is darling! Saw the pics you posted...too darn cute!
SACBARB...have another beverage! Do you remember my bird stories I shared on the other blog? LOL!! I can feel for ya!
Good evening everyone! I got the necklace today. It is as beautiful as everyone has said. Sorry for the earlier tease. Certain owlettes made me do it lol!
ReplyDeleteMy Grandson's BB team won 20-0. It was stopped in the 4th, not just because they were so far ahead, but because it had been raining, sleeting, windy and fricken cold! my ex-co-workers!
ReplyDeleteThanks again everyone for being so supportive about this blog. I talked to my sister and told her about all the kindness and concern in your responses. She was very touched, and said to thank you for her. So, once again...Thank You.
ReplyDeleteJ/L: The neighbors were outside when the dog ran down the alley. I guess it has destroyed their property..but to my knowledge, hasn't hurt their pets. My sis has called the news station..no one returned her calls. The police were notified and they told her they had to have AC with them before they could come out..and since AC wouldn't come out, their hands were tied. It's a Catch-22.
What happened to your friend J/L was horrible. Geez..
SACBARB: You're braver than I am..I would have started crying and had to wait for someone else to get the goose. I'm such a mush.
DIANNE: My sister is going to come over this weekend to read all the comments for herself. She was so sad when it happened thinking that no one really cared. Now she knows differently.
CPGEM: You are so right..writing about it does help. Thank you for creating the place where that is possible.
SANDIE: Ok..'naughty' is an understatement! But you're right, the dog is acting on instinct.
ReplyDeleteMO: My sister is doing ok..it's just that she's still afraid.
TINA: Thank you.
MEK: Ya know, I'm only a couple hours away..I could go with you to the doctor.
ReplyDeleteAt the mention of me going willingly to the doctor, DIANNE and TINA have just choked on their sodas...
MARY: G'night and sweet dreams.
ZONA - Another heartfelt wonderfully written blog. I can't imagine how horrible this experience has been for your sister. Big ((((HUGS)))) to her from WESconsin!! It's too bad that the police dept aren't willing to do anything without AC. And for them to say to try to contain that animal....are they freakin' nuts?!!? I hope they are able to somehow catch this monster and put your neighborhood at ease.
ReplyDeleteAnd ZONA....I just choked on my cawfee.....ijs!!!
ReplyDelete150!!!
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH - Luv'd the pics of Noah!! He is one handsome little guy!!
ReplyDeleteVIG - I'm working on it!!
TINKA - Hope you enjoyed your daughter's b'day!!
MARY - Luv the pic of the necklace with your teddy!!
TINA - Thanks for the thrill!!
ReplyDeleteLast

ReplyDeleteLast! I can out last the last last!
ReplyDeleteLYNN...don't you have to go to the foodbank...NOW?? lol!
ReplyDeletelast, last, last
Zona~ i didn't choke...i threw up!~
ReplyDeleteLast, lasted, lastly
ReplyDeleteOh Mo I have a few hours yet before I leave!
ReplyDeleteLast!
Somebody get the sawdust! Puke on Aisle 1! Tina is the culprit!
ReplyDeleteLasted!
Zona~Since the police and AC don't seem to want to do anything, what about getting the neighbors to sign a petition? Especially those neighbors who have been scared or harmed by this dog? Maybe the police/AC would listen if the complaint(s) came from more than one resident???
ReplyDeleteAgain ((((hugs))) to your sister. I was playing our nightly game of "string" with my little kitty and as I looked at her little face, I thought about your sister and just shuddered....
