Beach Boys!

Chosen by Iteach

My father always wanted to be one of the Beach Boys. It didn't quite happen, but he still loves their music. When I was a little girl he would play their 8-track in the car all the time. I can remember falling asleep in the car to him singing 409. Then as a teenager he would play them in the garage and I could hear his music from my lawn chair. I was a sun worshipper back then and I would once again fall asleep in the sun to the Beach Boys. When my dad hit 50 and after a few beers he decided to make his life dream come true. Him and his buddies dyed their hair blond, so that they could be beach boys. That lasted for a whole year and boy did he look goofy. I think back to it now and just smile. So today's blog is in honor of my dad.

  7. Morning Glories!

SSSSShirley got first! Take that! LOL

Iteach loved your blog about your Dad. I bet you were embarrased at the time but I think it is delightful that he bleached his hair and went for the gusto at 50! Sure beats getting a Porsche and blonde to have on his arm! LOL

Living a dream even a little one keeps us alive and youthful!

    Hi MEK and Carol!

  8. Why is everybody talking about 50 like it is OLD?????????

  10. OK this is kind of creepy. A Billy Mays commercial just came on (I have Animal Planet turned on).

I was so stunned I didn't catch what it was all about, something to plug into your car radio or something.

Just hearing that voice made the hair on my arms stand up!

  11. scirsh - lol at "50 being old"!!

    Lynn - young and youthful!!

EBJ - from yesterday - our hole is still there - LOL - plumbers start this week..

it was also announced this past week that until they can find his replacement - he will still appear on all of his endorsed products packaging.....

  13. Mornin' HOoters!

Shirley Congrats on first and thank you for bringing the sunshine.

Iteach That was a cute story about your dad. Living in SoCal the emergence of the surfing culture, I danced to a lot of Beach Boys tunes. I saw them once, it was probably 1960 or 1961, before they became recording artists. They were playing at a teen dance in the neighboring town of Azusa. I remember thinking they were awfully good for being at a little summer teen dance.

  14. Should be "during the emergence". I need more cawfee.

  15. Blogger is being weird! I was finally able to publish by previewing first, then publish, then getting foad message, then arrowing back to front page. By then my comment had published.

  16. Woo Hoo!!! That was very tedious being as I had to preview each time.

  20. Hi. I've always enjoyed the Beach Boys but they are from my dayso I always listened to them.

We went to my Aunt's bday dinner last night and she was in bed sick. There was only my brother and wife and MrD and myself as guests. I guess my cousins still had us over as they had flown in from CA and New Zeland. We had a nice visit with them. Today my niece invited us for a bbq for her boyfriends bday. . She asked if I could bring chips, dip, tomato, letece and drinks. She asked her parents to bring salad, drinks, hamb and buns. I wonder what she is providing? We asked her if we should bring catsup too?

SHIRLEY: I love seeing ur sun again and btw what do u mean that J/L and I could provide porn? We r two of the most un-porn people--j/s

TINA: MrD has agreed to paint us so bring ur drop cloth.
Hope u all have a nice afternoon

  21. Dianne At least you don't have to bake the birthday cake! Sorry to hear that your aunt wasn't feeling well. That's really neat that some people came all the way from New Zealand.

  22. Mary- I loved your blog about Bernie. It was very special tribute to him. Thank you for doing that for him.

  23. Shoot, EBJ, I had ten dollars of quarters after my rummage sale in early June. I wonder if one of them you are still looking for was in that group of coins.

Great blog! I could see teachers using those in class in teach about states.

  24. DeeDee, I so enjoyed those videos. They were funny. I liked how they "thought outside of the box" with the skin paint.

I also enjoyed listening to them talk. Love the accent....

  25. Carol, I hope to see more poems in the future. I have never been fond of writing poems, but I made myself expand my poetry unit this past winter. I really started to enjoy it and it was fun watching the kids experiment with it.

  27. Dianne, that reminds me of something my mom still laughs about til this day:

She and my dad were invited to a dinner party, and mom asked the hostess what she could bring.

The hostess asked my mom (seriously) if she could bring a turkey.

So anytime I have a party and someone asks me what they can bring, I always ask them to bring a turkey!

Once I explain it gets a lot of laughs!

Mo good to see you again!

Iteach I got Utah and Wyoming yesterday from JL so I need a couple less quarters!

  28. Di~ I don't think they make a tarp big enuf for me~ He can do me outside~

  40. Must be everyone has gone to bed!
I have been off line all day. It was a beautiful day here. I was outside a lot. That might have been a mistake since my allergies are kicking in.
Just 2 wks after General Motors cut off our Dental plan, one of my filings has broken. I have the best timing lol! It must be taken care of cuz my whole left side of my face is in pain. I was having dinner with Hubby last night when I chewed down on something and instant pain! que sera sera!

Iteach, I got the biggest kick out of your blog! I would love to see that pic of your Dad and his buddies! I have seen the Beach Boys many times. I never tire of hearing them.

    Have a great week everyone!
    Good night
Same to all the sweet lurkers z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z

  42. Evenin' All!

ITEACH: I've always loved the Beach Boys, their music just makes you happy and is synonymous with summer and fun. My fave Beach Boys song is "God Only Knows"..it's just so pretty.

I think it's wonderful that you have this fun memory of your dad. I hope your mom can find the pictures..the laughter and smiles they would bring would be worth their weight in gold.

Great blog in honor of your dad ITEACH..thank you for sharing a little bit of him with us! :D

CAROL: I don't have much grey..but I think I might be the reason others do!!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  47. Zona, I'll be right THERE lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Zona 115? That's not fit for human habitation. I was in 120 degrees once for a couple of days. It was absolute hell and I was young at the time. It would probably kill me know.

    ReplyDelete
  49. J/L: Wait I know..'some beach..somewhere..'..lol..

LYNND: I have very small dreams..but a lot of them..so I should stay verrrry young, yes? ;)

SCIRISH: AMEN! Course..the fact that AARP is sending me stuff does not help.. ;)

EBJ: They are going to continue to run those Billy Mays commercials..very weird..

    ReplyDelete
  50. J/L: We are going to 'cool down' to 113 tomorrow..hopefully the ac will stay on..

It got to 121 here once..they closed the airport. I lived in CA at the time, Thank God.

KGRL: Congrats on that hot 69! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. MARY: Are you sure? It is so hot. I was walking through a parking lot yesterday and I swear my shoes were melting and sticking to the asphalt. When it's like this here, pedestrians walk too slow..and drivers drive too fast..not a good combination. And the tempers..sheesh!! Gimme my pool anyday! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Speaking of which...I think I'm goin' swimmin' right now!

Sweet dreams everyone..have a nice day tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aaahhh! I remember those hot summer nights in SoCal and swimming in the pool, well, just kind of floating around, really. Very lovely and relaxing.
