MY FAVORITE SONG

Chosen by Just_Lin

It doesn't come up often, but every once in a while I am asked to answer the question "Who is your favorite recording artist?" or "What is your favorite song?" These days, you may have to answer this kind of question as a security measure to access a site on line, such as your personal banking information. Although there have been many recording artists and songs that I've loved through the years, my answers to these questions remain the same: Eric Clapton and "Layla". I just love guitar music, for one thing, and I love the sound of Eric Clapton's voice. Plus, I've always thought he was pretty cute, especially as he appears in this video.

"Layla" was released in 1970 when Eric Clapton was with Derek and the Dominos. He wrote it for Patti Boyd who he was in love with and who was married to his good friend George Harrison. He eventually won Patti away from George and they were married for a time. Although their marriage didn't last, the song surely did.

"Layla" is considered one of rock music's definitive love songs. It is without a doubt a rock classic. It is the one song that I must listen to all the way through, even if I am in the car and have already reached my destination. The song grabs me everytime.

    JustLin I really like Frampton but I don't have an absolute favorite recording artist or song. I guess there are just to many to choose from.

    Hope everyone has a great day!

  5. Good Morning!

    J/LIN: My musical tastes are really varied..I love Sinatra and Streisand, but also like the Rolling Stones and Zeppelin. I don't think I could pick just one song as a favorite though..I'll think about it a bit and see if one stands out above the rest.

    I really like Eric Clapton and "Layla" is a great song..truly a classic. Clapton really is one of the very, very best rock guitarists imho..I love his song "Tears In Heaven" as well.

    Jodi, glad you had a good time at the reunion!!

    Hi, Zona and Bonachichi.

    Eric Clapton...love him! Steve Winwood is another favorite, Hall and Oates, too.
    Anyone who has ever looked at my MS page can tell I like the older song's. Not so much into the music being put out lately. It all sound's the same. There might be a few out there that I like, but I can't even think of them right now.
    Which remind's me...I need to get busy and put my music back on MS.
    ~~~~
    VIG, glad you arrived safely!
    Carol, sorry the BBQ couldn't be outside, but I'm sure you all had a good time. Rained all day here, too, in fact most of this week. Getting a little tired of having to walk Boz out with the umbrella just to do his bidness! For being a fiesty, crazy dog...he sure is a big (80lb.) baby when it come's to rain.
    Shirley, Love your purple flower.
    Hoping to get some errand's done today.....
    Have a good day Everyone!!!
    BIRRRDDDEEE!!! Nikki is the same way with water..and she's part Lab..I don't get it..aren't they supposed to be water dogs?? I guess maybe only her mouth is Lab..cuz that's the only place water gets near her..lol..
  16. JUST LIN...Did you know that Clapton is the only performer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 3 times? For the Yardbirds, Cream and his Solo Career.
  17. Good morning/afternoon Lynn D, Bonachichi, Jodi, Zona, Maureen and Birdee!
    Congrats on 1st Lynn D!
    Thanks for the video Just Lin. I'm not a big fan of Clapton although some of his songs are ok, this one included. I always liked The Eagles "Hotel California".
  18. As you can see I am still here so Bill didn't have his way with me. He tried but I resisted. Lol!
    I think the heavy rains have stopped but we still have some strong wind gusts. They are talking about the tail of the hurricane wrapping around so we may see more rain this afternoon.
  19. Good morning!
    Fabulous song to start the day off with JL! Love Eric Clapton!
    I think my all time faves are Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, but I love the Rolling Stones, Eagles, Journey, Heart, lots of the "older" bands/singers.
    I am way behind with the blogs, we had another big party here on Friday and yesterday had a busy day, plus had to finish the clean-up. We were both extremely burned out last night.
    Shirley, I'm glad you were able to fend off Bill's advances.
    Congrats Lynn on 1st today!
    Jodi is there any chance that we will get to see your performance on video? I bet that was really fun!
    I think I'd have to be extremely drunk before I would subject anyone to my singing haa haaaa!
    Don't know if I'd shatter glass, but I def. think the room would clear out fast!
    I'll be back, not going anywhere today!
    Hope everyone has a nice day!
  20. Happy Sunday Owls.
    J/L, My fave singer is my husband JBJ. I know he is also Mo's husband, but I share well. I'm not sure about Mo though. I do like Clapton however, but I mostly listen to oldies - like 60's oldies. I am also a fan of country. Thanks for posting this song for us today.
  21. Lynn, You are really up early today. LOL @ like a virgin singing.
  24. Good morning, HOoters!
    There are many other recording artists that I really enjoy: Rolling Stones, Chris Isaak, Tom Petty, Johnny Mathis, the older Bob Dylan stuff, and as a pre-teen, it was Elivis, for sure. I think "Layla" has really stood the test of time. Even after decades, it still sounds like it could have been written yesteray.
    Thanks for "rockin' out" with me this morning.
  25. hmmmmm.....he may be ur husband's....but JBJ is MY lover! ijs~
  28. Morning, owls!
    From A51: Zona, I don't remember an asthmatic dog! :(
    Shirley: Too bad Sonia isn't active any more... it would be good to get an update from her on what Bill is doing to St Johns...
    J/L: Don't you love how versatile Clapton is, how he can re-do Layla as a much gentler song, and both it and the original Derek and the Dominoes versions are great songs?
  29. MEK LMAO @ lay low! Hope you have an excellent day, too.
  30. LOL! J/L, I hadn't read your post when I posted mine!
  31. Eric Clapton does have a spiritual side. Those of you who like Tears in Heave (as do I), you might also like Holy Mother.
  33. Hello Everyone!
    Zona, I just read your blog from yesterday. My very very favorite type of children shows happened Mon-Fri.
    In the afternoon I would watch Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, and the Electric Company. I loved those shows so much, oh man, what great memories.
    In the morning when I was little Mon-Fri. I would watch Bozo the Clown and I think the other was called Mr. Kangaroo. Oh, also Romper Room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Oh, man I loved those shows.
    The only show I liked to watch on Sat. mornings was SchoolhouseRock.
  36. Ok, so JBJ has an East Coast wife, a North Coast wife, a West Coast wife so it makes sense he has a UT lovah!! BARB, we've been sharing him for years now. I have kept it pretty much on the down low, because you all know how much I love my meager existance vs. the rich and famous lifestyle!! I can't think of 2 better people to share him with ;)~
  37. SHIRLEY...glad you're safe! You're stronger then I am, as I couldn't resisit Bill!! DAMN THAT BILL!!!
  42. J/L I totally love this song.
    Hubby and I have seen him in concert twice. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, not counting Neil Diamond.
    My BIL named his son after him "Eric" and he also named his dog "Layla".
