It doesn't come up often, but every once in a while I am asked to answer the question "Who is your favorite recording artist?" or "What is your favorite song?" These days, you may have to answer this kind of question as a security measure to access a site on line, such as your personal banking information. Although there have been many recording artists and songs that I've loved through the years, my answers to these questions remain the same: Eric Clapton and "Layla". I just love guitar music, for one thing, and I love the sound of Eric Clapton's voice. Plus, I've always thought he was pretty cute, especially as he appears in this video.
"Layla" was released in 1970 when Eric Clapton was with Derek and the Dominos. He wrote it for Patti Boyd who he was in love with and who was married to his good friend George Harrison. He eventually won Patti away from George and they were married for a time. Although their marriage didn't last, the song surely did.
"Layla" is considered one of rock music's definitive love songs. It is without a doubt a rock classic. It is the one song that I must listen to all the way through, even if I am in the car and have already reached my destination. The song grabs me everytime.

ReplyDeleteWow I can't believe I snuck in there! LOL
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteJustLin I really like Frampton but I don't have an absolute favorite recording artist or song. I guess there are just to many to choose from.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Hello, LynnD!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning and Happy Sunday to everyone landing later!
Just_Lin; I am with LynnD. I can't choose one artist. Eric Clapton is up there, though. From Dueling Banjos to Tears in Heaven.
Hope everyone has a beautiful day!

ReplyDeleteJUST SLIN - Luv Eric Clapton, and Layla is definitely a classic!! Tears in Heaven really tugs @ my heart.
I hope everyone has a great day!! I survived my 25th Class Reunion last night....good food, drinks, friends and even Karaoke....I sang "Like a Virgin"...even had backup singers!!!
I have to do some laundry today and shop for school supplies....ugh!!!
Good Morning!
ReplyDeleteJ/LIN: My musical tastes are really varied..I love Sinatra and Streisand, but also like the Rolling Stones and Zeppelin. I don't think I could pick just one song as a favorite though..I'll think about it a bit and see if one stands out above the rest.
I really like Eric Clapton and "Layla" is a great song..truly a classic. Clapton really is one of the very, very best rock guitarists imho..I love his song "Tears In Heaven" as well.
Great blog today J/LIN..thank you!
LYNND: Congrats on FIRST!
ReplyDeleteJODI: Video pleeeaassee!! I'm glad you had a great time! :D
HI BONACHICHI!
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!
Jodi: How does a virgin sing? Are there lots of soprano moans followed by gasps of Oh Baby?
ReplyDeleteWaving a bonacci and Zona!
Heading out the door!
JUST LIN...truly a classic. And I think Clapton gets even better looking as he ages!! I have varied taste in music, but I tend to be most fond of 70's rock. But I do like some more current bands...Goo Goo Dolls, Daughtry and of course my husband...JBJ!!
ReplyDeleteLYNN...woo hoo on your sneaking in! LOL@ how a virgin sings!!
ZONA...Good morning! Did you get some sleep??
CHI CHI...good morning

SHIRLEY...please check in and let us know you are safe and sound
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Everyone!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrat's on 1st, Lynn.
Jodi, glad you had a good time at the reunion!!
Hi, Zona and Bonachichi.
Eric Clapton...love him! Steve Winwood is another favorite, Hall and Oates, too.
Anyone who has ever looked at my MS page can tell I like the older song's. Not so much into the music being put out lately. It all sound's the same. There might be a few out there that I like, but I can't even think of them right now.
Which remind's me...I need to get busy and put my music back on MS.
~~~~
VIG, glad you arrived safely!
Carol, sorry the BBQ couldn't be outside, but I'm sure you all had a good time. Rained all day here, too, in fact most of this week. Getting a little tired of having to walk Boz out with the umbrella just to do his bidness! For being a fiesty, crazy dog...he sure is a big (80lb.) baby when it come's to rain.
Shirley, Love your purple flower.
Hoping to get some errand's done today.....
Have a good day Everyone!!!
xoxoxo
Hey MO!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course we can't leave out JBJ....your husband! LOL
Shirley!!!!....ditto on what Mo said...
ReplyDeleteHey BIRDEEEEEE!!!...maybe you can hire the guy that P DIDDY hired to carry his umbrella for him to walk Boz!!
ReplyDeleteLYNND: LOL!!
ReplyDeleteMO: I slept about 3 or so hours..I think the fact that my eyes are burnin' like a son of a gun means I need to sleep a little bit more.. ;)
So what are you up to today Mrs Bon Jovi?? :D
BIRRRDDDEEE!!! Nikki is the same way with water..and she's part Lab..I don't get it..aren't they supposed to be water dogs?? I guess maybe only her mouth is Lab..cuz that's the only place water gets near her..lol..
ZONA...I think you need to take the hint your eyes are giving you! LOL@ Mrs. JBJ!! I am going to another cousins to watch Brian Boitano's new cooking show on Food Network...What Would Brian Boitano Make! I hope he isn't behind a counter the whole time...gotta see those thighs of his!! YOWZA!!
ReplyDeleteJUST LIN...Did you know that Clapton is the only performer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 3 times? For the Yardbirds, Cream and his Solo Career.
ReplyDeleteGood morning/afternoon Lynn D, Bonachichi, Jodi, Zona, Maureen and Birdee!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st Lynn D!
Thanks for the video Just Lin. I'm not a big fan of Clapton although some of his songs are ok, this one included. I always liked The Eagles "Hotel California".
As you can see I am still here so Bill didn't have his way with me. He tried but I resisted. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI think the heavy rains have stopped but we still have some strong wind gusts. They are talking about the tail of the hurricane wrapping around so we may see more rain this afternoon.
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteFabulous song to start the day off with JL! Love Eric Clapton!
I think my all time faves are Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, but I love the Rolling Stones, Eagles, Journey, Heart, lots of the "older" bands/singers.
I am way behind with the blogs, we had another big party here on Friday and yesterday had a busy day, plus had to finish the clean-up. We were both extremely burned out last night.
Shirley, I'm glad you were able to fend off Bill's advances.
Congrats Lynn on 1st today!
Jodi is there any chance that we will get to see your performance on video? I bet that was really fun!
I think I'd have to be extremely drunk before I would subject anyone to my singing haa haaaa!
Don't know if I'd shatter glass, but I def. think the room would clear out fast!
I'll be back, not going anywhere today!
Hope everyone has a nice day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Owls.
ReplyDeleteJ/L, My fave singer is my husband JBJ. I know he is also Mo's husband, but I share well. I'm not sure about Mo though. I do like Clapton however, but I mostly listen to oldies - like 60's oldies. I am also a fan of country. Thanks for posting this song for us today.
Lynn, You are really up early today. LOL @ like a virgin singing.
ReplyDeleteJodi, Glad you survived your reunion.
Zona, Get some sleep!
Mo, You know I am JBJ's west coast wife.
Shirley & VIG, I glad you are both safe for now.
Waving to Bonacci and Birdee.
Off to Church. BBL
ReplyDeleteEBJ, you flew in while I was typing. Glad your party was successful.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, HOoters!
ReplyDeleteThere are many other recording artists that I really enjoy: Rolling Stones, Chris Isaak, Tom Petty, Johnny Mathis, the older Bob Dylan stuff, and as a pre-teen, it was Elivis, for sure. I think "Layla" has really stood the test of time. Even after decades, it still sounds like it could have been written yesteray.
Thanks for "rockin' out" with me this morning.
hmmmmm.....he may be ur husband's....but JBJ is MY lover! ijs~
ReplyDeleteJ/L~ I've never heard this song...thought I had, but nope~ I like Tears in Heaven, too~ My favorite song is Africa, but Toto isn't necessarily my favorite band~
LynnD~ congrats on first~
Jodi~ I always thought you were like a virgin~ :)~
Good Morning Bonachichi, Zona, Mo, Birdee, Shirley, EBJ, and SacBarb~
Tina A few years ago, he put out an accoustic, bluesy version of "Layla". Maybe you heard that.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday...
ReplyDeleteGood Morning..
Just Lin - thanks for the Sunday Video..
For the longest time, i always thought he was singing Lay Low........ then I heard the story about who he wrote it for - i had to laugh at myself..
Lynn - congrats on FIRST..
waving howdy to Lynn, Bonacci, Jodi, Zona, MO, Birdee, Shirley, EBJ, SacBarb, Tina, and Just Lin. and all who land..
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
:-)
Morning, owls!
ReplyDeleteFrom A51: Zona, I don't remember an asthmatic dog! :(
Shirley: Too bad Sonia isn't active any more... it would be good to get an update from her on what Bill is doing to St Johns...
J/L: Don't you love how versatile Clapton is, how he can re-do Layla as a much gentler song, and both it and the original Derek and the Dominoes versions are great songs?
MEK LMAO @ lay low! Hope you have an excellent day, too.
ReplyDeleteLOL! J/L, I hadn't read your post when I posted mine!
ReplyDeleteBear Yes, I do love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteEric Clapton does have a spiritual side. Those of you who like Tears in Heave (as do I), you might also like Holy Mother.
Tears in Heave? LMBO! That should have been Tears in Heaven, of course.
ReplyDeleteHello Everyone!
ReplyDeleteZona, I just read your blog from yesterday. My very very favorite type of children shows happened Mon-Fri.
In the afternoon I would watch Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, and the Electric Company. I loved those shows so much, oh man, what great memories.
In the morning when I was little Mon-Fri. I would watch Bozo the Clown and I think the other was called Mr. Kangaroo. Oh, also Romper Room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, man I loved those shows.
The only show I liked to watch on Sat. mornings was SchoolhouseRock.
It has been sunny here for the last several hours and I have not lost power so I have decided to eat my emergency food...Hershey chocolate bar and potatoe chips.
ReplyDeleteOk, so JBJ has an East Coast wife, a North Coast wife, a West Coast wife so it makes sense he has a UT lovah!! BARB, we've been sharing him for years now. I have kept it pretty much on the down low, because you all know how much I love my meager existance vs. the rich and famous lifestyle!! I can't think of 2 better people to share him with ;)~
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY...glad you're safe! You're stronger then I am, as I couldn't resisit Bill!! DAMN THAT BILL!!!
ReplyDeleteThe "I'm" in my last post should have been bold.
ReplyDeleteJ/L I totally love this song.
ReplyDeleteHubby and I have seen him in concert twice. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, not counting Neil Diamond.
My BIL named his son after him "Eric" and he also named his dog "Layla".
Tina, Eunice looks like a Milli Vanilli throwback.
ReplyDeleteBonachichi~ Eunice can't sing either~
ReplyDeleteShirley~ Open ur eyes...it is bold.....but I'm not sure what you were trying to infer with that! ijs~
Oh you know perfectly well what I was trying to infer
