My Other Children

by Iteach

Starting August 24th, I will have 28 children. Nope that wasn't a misprint, I will have 28 children. Three are biological, one is a stepdaughter, and the other 24 are my second graders. Here are the names of my newest family members:

Timothy, Elijah, Jurrian, Arleth, Breyman

Tyler F., Nadya, Abigail, Chris, Kyle

Tyler L., Daniel, Dillon, Richard, Daricka

Sammy, Summer, Marly, April, Macayleigh

Kamden, Hayleigh, Riley, Thomas,

I think of them as family from day one until to day number 175. I wipe away tears, laugh with them, and teach them all that I know. I constantly worry about them and they are always in my thoughts. Every morning I jump out of bed and I can't wait to see what the new day will bring for us.

I received my class list today and I have been writing their names all over the room. On their locker, desk, and mailbox. I daydream what the new year will bring. Every single year is full of surprises. Some are happy and some are sad. I have all there names memorized in my head and they are already tugging at my heart.

So with a Diet Pepsi in my hand, I'm toasting to a new school year full of learning, laughter, and hope!!

  20. School here in NJ/NY does not start till September 9.. so seeing all the comments about kids going back to school is strange for me.. I wonder why different areas/states have different school start times..

Oh wait, doesn't it have to do with the weather? Oh no maybe that is not it..

    Does anyone know?

  26. Happy Friday Owls.

Jennifer, I agree with everyone who said 'your kids' are so lucky to have you as a teacher. Both my kids had excellent 2nd grade teachers and they still remember them.

I always took the first day of school off work so I could be home when the kids came home from school. They were always so excited about the coming year and had so much to tell me. I loved it. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.

Dean was just offered today the job in town and the pay is exactly the same as the other one. Plus four weeks of vacation instead of two.

  43. JENNIFER - I wish the very best for you & Dean & your children.

I remember all of my teachers with appreciation. You are our outside of the home parents.

EUNICE - Toad thinks you are beautiful.

  44. What good news for Jennifer iteach!!! I don't think it could have worked out better.

I was hoping someone school-ish would explain summer vacation. Wasn't that started so farm kids could help out with the planting? Then like taxes, it just never went away?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Historians at Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum that recreates an 1830s New England farming village, say not. According to the web site and schoolmistress there, farm children went to school from December to March and from mid-May to August. Adults and children alike helped with planting and harvesting in the spring and fall.

Urban schools in the 1800s also lacked the long summer vacation modern Americans take for granted. Like working families today, new immigrant families needed a safe and affordable place for children to stay while parents worked. In large cities, children of parents who worked in factories, shops, or mills learned English and other subjects during an 11-month school year.

    ill look for more later~

  46. Happy 50th Anniversary, State of Hawaii~

    ReplyDelete
  47. Don't panic, it is me Mary/Mich!
I don't feel like signing her out again! She forgets to do that and it confuses the shit out of me lol!!

We are back in the U.S.A! We are back in Portland Oregon until Sunday.
I tried to text on this blog, but every time the train hit a bump, my screen went bonkers!
We had a great time in Vancouver. It is quite a mixture of cultures. I think I am going to have to get my sandals "retreaded" lol!!

Jennifer, I want to be your student! A child can tell very quickly if a teacher is "into" them or not. I remember some of my teachers playing favorites and feeling sad about it. I was not permanently scarred by it though lol!! (don't ask Tina).

  48. It is not a Happy celebration here today. The Sovereign Hawaiian people are protesting, the ones supporting indigenous rights are protesting, and the Iolani Palace is locked down and under guard.

    It's sad really~

    ReplyDelete
  49. Kgirl,I was just reading about that. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the "Independence" thing?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Jaimie?

Well I am a transplant, but from what I have read and learned from Hawaiian people who we're young and here during the takeover where they imprisoned the queen in her own palace, I think they we're robbed just like the American Indians we're of their land and their sovereign rights.

If it we're ever able to revert to a Sovereign Nation (highly doubtful) I would be honored to be able to stay here.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kgirl, ok, I will change back to Mary/Mich lol!! After I get back from eating dinner........bbl!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. ZONA - I haven't forgotten you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope you are having an enjoyable day with Mr. Zona.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Whoa... Kgrl's the go-to woman for answers!! I am more than a little ashamed to not know anything about Hawaii's history. I think of it as part of Americana. School for me tonight! I'd love to see Kgrl write a blog about Hawaii!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm baaaack, but not really, because I have to put the children to bed.

Then I will read the three days of blogs I've missed!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tina: Congrats on first.

Carol: Love, love, love Mary Poppins. That is an awesome card!!
I feel the same way about lipstick on a cup. Every morning when I take my vitamins I hate the lipstick on the glass...grrr..

Iteach: Your blog is awesome. I love you attitude. What a lucky bunch of children to have you as their teacher! :) Wow.

Okay going to read today's comments.

Has anyone ever eaten at Five Guys Hamburgers? I had a mystery shop there today and I am so impressed. They truly have the best burgers and fries I have had in YEARS!! wow.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bebbi Isn't that where President Obama went for hamburgers a couple of months ago?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Bona, I just read your "chip" blog and it was really good.

I have encountered the "chip" on the shoulder attitude a lot with co-workers and parents at my school. I tend to want to please, but I have learned not to be a doormat & take the abuse.

I also know I'm a sinner and I'm sure there has been times when I acted like I have a "chip" on my shoulder. I have always tried to learn from my negative behavior and try to do better.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You know after reading it, it ddoesn't look right typed. But it all made sense in my head. lol

    I'll bbl with Whabby's blog.

TINA - Thank you for the special email for my Dad!! It made him giggle today....especially needed, cuz he said he didn't feel like moving today. THANK YOU!!!

  61. Okay Whabby, I read your blog and loved the visuale picture of the capsule . It reminded me of the MRI I had on my head last Sept.

I don't get scared at all. In fact I like being in tight places. It relaxes me and I fall asleep. I slept during my MRI.

I have no idea what is going to happen next week, but I hope I'm still in the capsule.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oops you called it a spacecraft and I called it a capsule. Sorry, :)

  64. Zona I hope it was a great day for you!

    Attention Kmart shoppers!
Barbara is taking us on a site seeing tour tomorrow! Watch out Portland Oregon!! My Niece and I were not sure what to do tomorrow and bam! Bon sent us a message and suggested a ride into the mountains. We are so excited! I am pretty sure she is not an ax murderer lol!! ? :-)

  65. OMG, Jennifer! As a matter of fact, next week you'll be leaving the capsule! :(

  72. JENNIFER: You wrote a wonderful blog yesterday. Good teachers, like you are JENNIFER, helped us learn and grow and made such a strong impact on our lives when we were kids. I can remember the name of every homeroom teacher I ever had. I remember learning to read..to write..to add and multiply...and right beside me every step of the way was a wonderful man or woman who chose to teach me. I think of the patience and dedication it takes to help children learn..and it just makes me realize that being a teacher may be one of the most important jobs there is.

Enjoy your new school year JENNIFER, I know the children lucky enough to have you for a teacher sure will.
