Stepmother

by Iteach

Are you a stepmother? Do you have a stepmother? I'm a proud stepmother of a ten year old girl, Grace. Hubby and I started dating when she was 13 months old. It has been an incredible journey for the past nine years.

At first, it was easy being a stepmom because she was so young when we met. Her parents were never married and they had never lived together, so it made the transition in the beginning easy. At the age of three, Grace used to draw pictures of her mom, dad, herself, and me all sleeping in the same bed. Then by 3 1/2 she started to see that her friends had moms and dads that lived together. So then she started drawing pictures of her mom & dad in bed together and me in the next room.

Then came the age of four when I wasn't in her drawings anymore. She really wanted her mom and dad to live together. It hurt a little but I totally understood. It was a tough phase but we made it through together.

Stepmotherhood is similar to motherhood, but then different too. It is hard to explain the difference. Sometimes it feels more like I'm the Aunt. It is hard to define, but I do know I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I'm really proud of the relationship that we have and how we continue to work on it. There are bound to be more bumps in the road as she gets older, but I feel confident that we will be able to work through them.

  3. Jennifer, good blog!

I'm not a stepmother, but my kid's have one. She's a doozie! Trouble maker, backstabber, selfish, you name it. Everyone just keep's their mouth shut to keep the drama to a dull roar. She and my ex have two kid's....since the beginning, their two want for nothing, while my two went without. I even used to babysit their two! I get along with them but, I must say..they are super spoiled and whiney. They show no respect to other's or for what they are given. I just keep hoping one day they will do better. I don't blame them, I blame their parent's.

  8. Morning hooters!

    Yeah Birdeeeee!!

I am on my way out the door. I am having my tooth fitted for my permanent cap this morning.
I am a step mom and have been since the two boys were 6 & 8, Tim and Todd. I can tell you (and they admit), they were little hellions!!
We only had them on week ends, but ooohhh man did they try my patience lol!
The oldest, Tim is on my face book. He has grown into a wonderful father in spite of himself lol! We get along wonderfully. His wife Cindy is a gem. She too is on my FB.
I better git or I will be late!.......
    Have a wonderful day all!!
Hi lurkers i see you :-)

    Congrats again on 1st birdee!

Not a stepmom nor have I had one. Your love for Grace shines thru iteach. She is lucky you are in her life.

Just talked to my Mom- she called from Germany. JODI- she said to tell you hi! She is coming home in a little over 2 weeks and I am looking forward to it. Miss her.

We are supposed to get rain storms today- so I think I may have to spend the afternoon at the mall shopping!! ;)

  10. I have never been a stepmom or a mom for that matter so I don't know what it's like but you seem to be doing a great job Iteach! I'm sure you'll have your bumps along the way with Grace but you will with the other kids too. Comes with the territory I hear. ((HUGS))

  11. Birdee Birdee Birdee, my cute fuzzy little friend!! Congrats on 1-15! You should have kept going to 100 then you would be the first one to get all the catagories in one day that I keep. I'm sure Jax and Mo would have taken you to lunch for doing that! Right girls? I would have said Tina but she's PMSing and probably not to it right now. Have a good day Birdee!

    Good Morning..

    Birdee - congrats on first..

Iteach - I have never been a mom or a stepmom... I did date a guy once that had three children - and that was a nightmare... and that's all I will say........ needless to say - that relationship didn't last long...

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!

  14. Good morning also to Mary and Goldie.

Geez Goldie the sacrifices you have to make. A whole afternoon shopping at the mall!

    Have a good day ladies!

I have to get dressed and then I'm off to mum's. She is eating very little these days so I bought a couple things yesterday at the store to try. The palitive care nurse confirmed yesterday that the pain mum has in her mouth and chest is from the cancer spreading. This may sound harsh or unfeeling, but, I hope this doesn't last much longer.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Shirley- NO it does not sound harsh and uncaring to me. My father suffered greatly before he died (at age 61) form complications related to his diabetes. I have often said that if he had asked me to call Kevorkian at any time- I would have done it in a heart beat.

Being in chronic pain with no chance at any better quality of life is no life if you ask me.

I totally understand what you are saying and I hope she does find peace and a pain free place soon.

  19. EarlyBirdee Congrats, once again.

Jennifer Good blog today. I'm sure you are a super step-mother. If I had to have one, I would hope she'd be just like you. I am a step-grandmother to a 16 yr old girl and my son loves her as if she were his.

Tina Why do you hate the UK?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Shirley You are not being uncaring, you are being compassionate. I, too, hope your mum is free of her pain soon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Shirley Thanks for the QOTD! Not one of my finer moments. LOL Thanks also for searching out daily quotes while I was away.

Reminder to everyone: I am not in charge of QOTD. I just try to do it so that someone will be and it won't be added to Carol's work load. : )

  22. Good Morning Birdee - Congrats on being first through tenth. You have been such an early bird this summer. Will it last through winter?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good Morning Mary - Have fun at the dentist. Is he cute?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jennifer - What a great blog, so honest. It touches me. My children were grown when they got a step-mother. They really liked her. I must be honest and admit I was a little jealous when she called them her children. She has since died so I must never speak ill of the dead. My father taught me that.
I think Gracie is sweet. You are both lucky to have each other.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good Morning Goldie - Please send rain here. Our island has about 50 forest fires raging. I think rain is coming on Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good Morning Shirley - I don't like to contradict you Sweetie nor do I like to brag but please check Thursday July 16th. I was on a marathon. I got l, 10, 15, 20, 25, 40, 50, 75, 100, 120, and 125. I was there for 69 but I left it for K-Girl. I was expecting a medal but somehow you must have missed it. No worries - I got plenty of medals at school for good behaviour. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good Morning Mek - Are you swimming today. Is puppy swimming with you? I think you can get little life jackets for dogs. That's what I should have had.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good Morning Jodi - Great talking to you the other day. I love your phone calls.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Good Morning Tina - Thanks for sending me all the eggs on Facebook. I am just learning the ropes over there.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good Morning Just-Lin - As I said in my message I am so sorry we couldn't get together when you were in Victoria. I don't know why the cruise lines don't stop for a longer time here. There is so much more to see than Butchart's Gardens. You must do the trip again. You were lucky to see so many animals on your cruise. We didn't see any.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I must get some work done. See you all this afternoon. Have a great day. Love, Tinka

  32. Shirley - Thanks for the beautiful gold medal. I will treasure it always.

  33. Well well, its Friday and I am sitting at my dr office for my annual physical--which means getting weighed!! Sitting here with two throbbing root canals. I think I will have a marg for dinner (or two).
I have been a stepmother and my kids have one so be back later to join in the blog. I just wrote now for sympathy!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dianne - Sending heaps of sympathy your way. There is nothing worse than root canal pain. Well, maybe there is but when you are suffering from it, it feels like the worse possible pain. I have been there, not fun.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Afternoon Everyone!

What a sleepy Friday it's been for me..Nikki jumped up on the bed to wake me up..and couldn't get down, so I finally had to haul my butt outta bed. Guess what..it's HOT outside.. ;)

JENNIFER: I give you tons of credit..because it can't be easy to be a stepmom..but I know that Gracie couldn't have a better role model in her life than you. As she gets older, she's going to know this too.

BIRDEE: Congrats on FIRST..I think you were quite the entertaining Fuzzyone this morning! :D

MARY: Happy day!! You have a new addition..porceline or gold? Be careful not to let anything bump into it for awhile..you don't want it to get knocked off...ijs.. ;)

GOLDIE: So..what did you get at the rainy day sales?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I misquoted myself earlier I didn't get a new cap, just permanent filling. It was all done in 15 minutes.$86 for 15 minutes work, not bad!

An update on my root canal. I did wind up paying $970 up front because the Specialist didn't think GM would pay the Ins. Well, I told them to submit it anyway. Today I got my insurance receipt that said they paid all but $84 of it! I called them and they said "the check is in the mail" yay, Vegas $$$$ Well not all of it lol!

I am off again to get gross-er-ies. I can't leave my house sitter (my Son) with an empty frig....later

    ReplyDelete
  37. SHIRLEY: I really do understand how you feel. I saw my mom deteriorate day by day..and I knew, even if she did come out of her coma..she would never be happy with her condition. I just prayed that God would make the best decision..He did.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Zona, porcelain. I will be good lol!
Well I did just eat some walnuts..

    ReplyDelete
  39. OK, I am really leaving this time!

    ReplyDelete
  40. MEK: Are you swimming yet??

TINA: What did the man say? ;)

JODI: ok..this is a silly question, but how was the movie? I think we're going tonight for date night!!! :)

J/LIN: But you're so good at QOTD! :D

DIANNE: I'm sorry you're throbbing...and even before the poking and prodding..how unfair is that?? ;)

HI TINKA!!!! Once you get the hang of the eggs on FB..you can try a farm..omg... :D

JENNIFER: I'm sorry..that should have been Grace..not Gracie..I need more caffeine it seems..

    ReplyDelete
  41. MARY: Not 69 shy..just a slow reader and typer! BEWARE THE NUTS!!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  42. ZONA - The movie was awesome....the FIRST 20 minutes was in 3-D!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ok, I'm now sitting half friggin' naked for 20 min in a room with a gown that I think is a size 2!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Shirley, I want to be hit by a bus. I know the blog is about step-people, but my brain is all a-futz. No doubt, step people get the bad end of the deal.

I want to be hit by a bus because I'm too much of a wuss to go through an illness. I am surprised it hasn't happened yet.

I have just escaped from the hospital after a procedure called debridement. If anyone tells you it doesn't hurt, run like hell!

Kgrl; I'm thinking of you and hope you stay safe.

Tina, hope they let you on the plane!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Diane, just walk out into the common room (or lobby) with your bare hienie hanging out. That's how I got out early.

    ReplyDelete
  46. BONACCI - Debridement = no fun. I had to order the wound care supplies when I worked @ a nursing home.

    DIANNE - I hope you don't get a chill!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dianne - I would love to see you in that gown. How about a picture.

  52. Zona - Great talking to you today. Stay cool.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Zona - I tried the farm on FB but I am lost. I think I need your help again.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shirley - Thoughts and prayers for your mom. I hope they keep her pain free. I don't think it's wrong to pray for your mom to be free of her pain. There is such a thing as quality of life. When that goes permanently I think most people wish to be released.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have been doing wash and just puttering. My energetic moods don't get as much accomplished as they used to. I wonder why?

So here I go again :)......

    ReplyDelete
  59. Birdee congrats on first!

Mary I did not know you were a stepmom. None of my friends or relatives had one, so I was very nervous at first.

Goldie so good to hear that your mom is doing fine and that she is coming home soon. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Shirley what you said was not harsh at all. Hugs!!

Dianne you have all my sympathy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh, Shoot, I have so much more in my notes to say, but today's topic just showed up at the front door!!

    Gracie!!!

Tonight we are celebrating her tenth b-day. The kids are very excited because she is staying all week long too.

    I'll bbl..........

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thank you all, for your well wishes. Really, it's not a big deal. Just some debris that didn't get noticed when the stitches were put in.

I've been productive since getting home. My foray into the hospital lobby wearing nothing but a backless gown, a cast and an IV bag got me discharged early. I think they were glad to be rid of me.

So I had extra time and took one of my laptops apart, "fixed" it and put it back together. Except I wound up with an extra screw.

    ReplyDelete
  63. quick fly-by

Felicia and her blow job have been downgraded to a catagory 2 (still 110 mph sustained) but they are forcasting her to weaken more.

The storm should start affecting the islands late Saturday with wind, rain and high surf. They are saying LOTS of rain, and 40+mph winds when she gets here.

Let's hope Felicia does not know how to dance, cause on her current path she should weaken.

Iteach....no step nothin here unless you talk about animals, and then there are several that I am sure would rather live with me than their own parents.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I had a girlfriend who married a man she knew had been divorced. They started dating whilst the divorce was in-process.

After about a year, she found out that she was not his 2nd wife. She was his 3rd. And she had an 8 year-old stepson she knew nothing about. She forgave him that little lie and went on to become friendly with the 8 year-old's mother.

It was from the boy's mother that she learned she had two other step-children. A boy and a girl. And she wasn't the 3rd wife. She was the 4th.

That marriage lasted 2 years and it's fortunate she had no kids with him. Who'da thunk there are serial marriers out there?

    ReplyDelete
  65. congrats on first birdee!

iteach, I didn't know you were a stepmother. I had no clue! Does she live with you? How nice that you have helped to raise her since she was so young.

    ReplyDelete
  66. TURTLE - Stay safe and I hope Felicia settles down before she blows you....;)

    ReplyDelete
  67. GOLDIE...maybe you should write a blog on the art of scoring the best deals. I'd love to read that!

DIANNE...are you still sitting in the doc's office half naked? Hope all goes, or went, well

MARY...so glad about your insurance and your refund. Takes some of the pain away!

TINKA...I hope you are safe from the fires. Are you going to meet up with Mary and Jaime when they are in Vancouver?

    SHIRLEY...I totally understand what you are saying. It hurts to watch your loved ones suffer and you wish they would finally be at peace and pain free. {{{HUGS}}}}
And yes I would take BIRDEE to lunch...a bag of bird seed to go!

JODI...I love how you are having such fun adventures with Jake!

    ReplyDelete
  68. i can't stop laughing.....i really can't......the 4 spouses got me!!! I think I might pee my pants!!!! I'll be back later~ omg!!!!~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ok...I am home and fully dressed. I finally finished my dr appt and then called the massage place to see if they had an opening and they did. I have quite a few gift certificates but never make an appt because I would have to shave my legs. Well, they were shaved for the dr today so what the heck.....

I have been and am a step-mother and think the kids (now adults) have always liked me. We have had our moments when some of them were young but a lot of times it was more the mother than the children. My kids have had a step-mother for 35 years and she has been a good one. Again, we didn't always agree and get along when my kids were young but we are all past that and I always appreciate how she treated my children. ITEACH: I used to get a little jealous too. She always made the best cupcakes for school functions and mine were plain jane ones. Then I thought I might feel jealous with the grandkids but that hasn't been a problem because they don't see them much and I know I am the favorite Nana!! Good blog. What did you end up getting Grace for her present? I know on FB we all sure were giving you ideas.

TINA: Glad you arrived safe and sound. Why are you laughing about the 4 spouses? :)

Happy Birthday tomorrow, CAROL. You had better start planning the big party for next year.

BONACCI: I hope you are feeling better. Aren't you supposed to stay off the foot after surgery?

SHIRLEY: I can so relate to your feelings regarding your mom. It is okay to feel the way you are feeling and know that you would feel the same if it was yourself. We don't like to see the ones we love in pain that is not going to go away.

GOLDIE: I am remembering that you are the one that has your Christmas presents wrapped before Halloween, right? Look at you...already starting!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Di~ I have no idea why that made me laugh so hard! Do you? :D

    btw...you have mail~

Hi to Mo, Jodi, Kgrl, J/L, Tinka, Zona, Bonachichi (glad ur home safe and sound!....and they let me on the plane....and get this...they even let me have the exit row!!!)

And J/L~ I hate the UK cuz they are holding DeeDee hostage and won't let her come home! okay...not really....but their internet sucks!!!!!~

  71. Bonocci, Hope you are doing well.

I went to the St. Gabriel picnic tonight with my daughter. We had a great time. She won a movie (The Cars) and she won a cake. She picked a cake that looked like watermelon but it was vanilla cake with chocolate chips and fondunt (sp?). Very cute. She loves watermelon so when she went in this big room to pick out her cake she was so excited to find that one. I walked 24,444 steps today. Spent two hours on the elliptical which really seems to take away some of my stress. I really enjoy going on Friday nights and watching them men lift weights...haha. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Dianne - I am happy you are home safe and sound.

Tina - sending you some Depends.

Hi Maureen - We are a long way from the fires. I feel so sorry for those who are evacuated from their homes.

It takes almost 8 hours to go to my house, downtown Vancouver and back to my house. I never make the trip unless I am staying over night. It looks like such a short distance on the map.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sorry, I am rambling. I am going to the Street Rod Nationals tomorrow at the fair and exposition center to work for my company's united way campaign. We sell t-shirts and it is really fun. I will walk around after and take lots of pictures of the old cars. Hopefully, Mr. Bebbi will come over after I finish volunteering and have fun. I have to be there at 8 a.m. so that means I need to leave my house by 7:30..gawd, that won't be pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jennifer - I have started watching "Ghost Whisperer" re-runs. It's not as bad as I thought although I do think they ruined things by "killing off" Jim.

I am off to bed to watch G.W. See you in the morning light. Love, Tinka

    ReplyDelete
  75. Tink: I agree, they did kind of ruin things by killing off Jim. I like watching the re-runs and working out at the Y (they have tvs on the elliptical machines)...that is in between watching the hunky guys work out..haha.

  76. Hi Everyone..

    Birdee..

You fuzzy birdee.. Happy 1 thru 15.. Fun!

  77. Diane; I had the surgery on my arm/shoulder. I broke the bone right above my ankle. Not quite the leg, but not really the ankle. The other cut that had stitches is clean, so no surgery needed there. I managed to do all this in a matter of seconds. Just think what I could do in an hour?

And yes, I am supposed to stay off my foot, seeing as how it's broken and all, but I refuse to do the wheelchair thing, and crutches hurt worse (on account of my arm) than just limping along with a "boot".

I just listen to my body. It will tell me when to take it easy. The suckiest part of it all is that it's illegal for me to drive right now. I'm back to being 12 and asking for rides wherever I need to go.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Tina, you got the exit row? I want to sit there! It's like the ticket taker at the cinema. If my friend FiFi Lepew was there, I make him wait until everyone else was off.

    Love the bonachichi!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Bonacci..

I loved the bonachichi too.. :O)

    Kudos..

Hi Ronnie! Good to see ya.

Dianne and Bonacci I hope you both feel much better in the morning.

I had a long but fun day visiting with my ex-fiance. We hadn't seen each other for over 40 yrs so it was really nice to spend the day with him. We are meeting for breakfast in the morning then he will head back to Portland.

    Good night, HOoters. Pleasant dreams.
