Truth Questions?

by Turtle

So a recent blog got me to thinking……watch out as that can be somewhat scary.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you in person, and have grown to know who is calling me when I answer and hear some of the following….Turtle? Heya HO or what ya doin? But even for those that I think I know somewhat well, there’s always something that comes out in our postings that makes me go REALLY?

So I thought howz about a game of Truth~ Pick 5 of the following questions and answer them as truthfully as you can. There are more than 5, and if you care to answer all as I am about to that is entirely up to you~

1.) Your real name Susan

2.) Current Location Honolulu

3.) Ethnicity Scottish, Irish, English and Welch

4.) Most cherished possession (inanimate object) My father’s wedding band that I wear on my right hand.

5.) College Graduate? (If so what kind of degree) Nope

6.) Three jobs you have had in your life. Technical Chemist, Graphic Artist, Purchasing Manager. Still don’t know what I wanna be when I grow up.

7.) Marital Status? Currently Single, but looking~

8.) How would you describe yourself? Hmmm Loyal, intelligent, sometimes introverted, strong, adventurous, giving, sarcastic all wrapped in a Pillsbury doughboy façade.

9.) What does your screen name mean. Kahonu means The Turtle. It is derived from the Hawaiian name that was given to me. Kahonupaalani. I have many nicknames, but that is the one that is most commonly used.

10.) Do you remember your dreams? Yes and VIVIDLY. If I concentrate well enough I can usually either replay the dream or continue it the next evening. Comes in kinda handy sometimes. ;-)

11.) Do you collect anything? I seem to have acquired a lot of Turtles, not by my own purchase. People give them to me. I used to collect Ice Hockey Cards, and somewhere in my Mom’s house is a box that I am sure is worth a mint, as it has 5 Wayne Gretzky rookie cards, and two Michael Jordan rookie cards in it.

12.) Do Roman paramedics refer to IV’s as 4’s? ok I am just seeing if you are paying attention…lol

13.) What is the one thing you want me to know about you?

Ok Hooters…….have a stab at it. Feel free to ask me any question you like, you all get one freebie random question.

  5. Iteach - here's the report.

pebbletech is all complete - it was a very interesting process - of which, I did not film - there were over 10 workers and I didn't want to violate their privacy - they take the pebble stuff and mix it up in some sort of concrete stuff and blow it into the hole - then smooth it all over the place - I thought we had gotten a different color - but it still has the film of the concrete stuff - that is why they will come and acid spray it today and we start filling it with water!!
    :-)

    so - there's the update!!

OH - and we had a MASSIVE storm last night - I happened to be walking around the yard trying to pick up after the dogs and i literaly got sucked into the ground - the scariest feeling every - I guess there was an air pocket from where they filled the trenches.......... it was like quicksand....... SO - i'll have to be letting them know about that..

    :-)

  7. Turtle...Very fun blog! I can't wait to read the responses. For some reason, you do not seem like a "Susan" to me, more like a "Suzanna" or something more complex and exotic. Maybe because I picture your life as being filled with wonderful people and meeting new ones all the time, all whilst (for Bonucci) listening to wonderful music in smokey (ok, that's probably not true) clubs.

Question 11...I seem to collect antique (or just old) unusual, catch your eye kind of stuff, but I have no favorite inanimate possession (#4). I don't have one because of a situation I found myself in several years ago. I had applied for SS Disability and they were making me jump through many, many hoops. It took two years to get approved. I had gone through all my savings and was becoming afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up the house payments. So....I started selling stuff. The first thing I sold was a hand carved Grandmother clock that I purchased in Germany. I would never be able to replace it. I must admit that I shed a tear or two while packaging it, but it paid for the house for a couple of months. There were a few more things that were very difficult to part with, but after that those "things" that I had considered so dear to me just became "stuff". There wasn't anything that I wouldn't part with to survive.

Whew all that for 2 questions...

  16. iteach~

I came here for the 2nd time on vacation in 93. I met my ex partner on the 2nd day of my 5 week trip (it was also a business trip). I was actually pondering the thought of moving to England at the time as the company I worked for at that time was British owned. That 5 week trip turned into an almost 7 week trip and when I returned to Chicago I quit my job, sold all of my stuff, and was back here in Hawaii within 3 months.

    13. I'm really a shy, but loyal broad that has a great rack!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Actually now that you said that, I was thinking of "Charms", at least I think that is what they are called. So I guess my favorite Jolly Rancher would be watermelon.

I am gonna post a funny craigslist "BestOf" that I saw a while back on Jolly Ranchers. It still makes me laugh~

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dear Makers of Jolly Ranchers,

I just thought you should know that nobody (NOBODY) ever eats any of the blue raspberry flavored Jolly Ranchers from the candy dish on our reception counter in our office. EVER. When it's time to re-fill the candy dish, there are always those ugly nonappetizing blue raspberry fuckers all abandoned at the bottom of the dish.

I have my opinions on why this phenomenon occurs. For one, that color should not be associated with food. It was really a bad idea. That flavor just screws up the whole assorted flavors bag and I was just wondering if perhaps there is a group of blue raspberry advocates somewhere that have convinced you to continue to make these?

I have been the candy bitch here for going on two years and I am just at a loss. What do I do with all these neglected, disgusting, blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers? I almost want to send them back to you, so that you can send them on to the blue raspberry fan club. I used to gather them up sadly from the bottom of the dish and put them aside in this other cup. I don't like to be wasteful. Now I simply throw them away as soon as they come tumbling out of the bag into the candy dish.

Quite frankly, I have never even tasted one of these things. They could taste awesome! Aside from the fact that nobody has ever HEARD of a blue raspberry, I'm sure they taste quite good. I just can't bring myself to put that radioactive nuclear flourescent unnatural color into my mouth. I'm pretty sure my teeth and gums would probably be stained blue.

I think at the very least, you should consider changing the color of the blue raspberry Jolly Rancher. Maybe just eliminate the blue part altogether. By the way, what's wrong with good ole plain raspberry? Now that's a good flavor. I know you already have cherry and watermelon flavors hogging up the red category, but surely you could come up with something.

To be honest, the bright neon blue color really fucks up the feng shui of my candy dish, with its appetizing array of purple, green, red and red Jolly Ranchers, co-mingling with the ever-popular Reese's PB cups, Hershey's miniatures and Hershey's Nut Lovers miniatures. The Twix and the M&Ms hardly ever stay in the dish long enough to look pretty, but that is to be expected. Fed Ex delivery folks and office visitors of all ilk pounce on those like they are hundred dollar bills. On a completely unrelated note, perhaps it's time for me to start looking for a more exciting job.

Thank you for your time. And remember, nobody wants to eat flourescent blue candy.

    Sincerely,

    The Receptionist

    ReplyDelete
  29. TURTLE - Luv the letter!! That receptionist could send all those blue jolly ranchers to my house....the boys LOVE them!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Send me the blue ones! LOL at the letter. I am the candy bitch at this office, and only stuff I don't like makes it in the dish. :)

Hey you with the great rack- i don't have my cell on, the answering machine is turned off at home and I am going to get my 12 hairs cut. Call me tomorrow at work and let me know what you decide. :)

  68. Dianne, no I haven't watched that show. I may have to send MR. EBJ to another room if I start watching another Bachelor type show this soon haha!

I will try to check it out. We are really into Big Brother...

Did you see this morning on Good Morning America, Robin was interviewing Jillian and ED from the Bachelorette. Supposedly he was seeing 2 other women during and after filming of the show (and after the engagement).

Of course Jillian laughed it off and said they (the 2 women)were just making it all up. Even when there were pictures showing him with these 2 women.

    ReplyDelete
  69. EBJ that is a good question for Turtle.

    ReplyDelete
  70. EBJ: I think I would do everything in my power to try and convince her to come here, but love would probably win out. Hopefully she lives in Fiji or Tahiti or at least in a warm coastal area....

  77. I am very glad the two journalists were pardoned.. I am also glad Bill Clinton was the person to be there for there release. He presents himself very well.. and I remember in the Bill Clinton days, our lives seemed easier less stressful.. so I commend him for stepping up..

I did not like that Lisa Ling was allowed on the plane when others were waiting for the plane to pull into the hanger. I don't quite understand why she was the only family member to do so.. Lee's husband and daughter were there, but they had to wait.. So I can only think it was done because of her celebrity status, which makes me furious.. Celebrities are given way to much.. it gets my goat..

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm a little late to this party, but I want to play along....

9)My screen name is for Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci.

    13) The one thing I want you to know about me is that I think you're one hell of a lady and I hold a high degree of respect for you.

  79. In upstate NY..there was a terrible accident last week.. a woman driving a mini van with her children and her nieces was driving the wrong way on a major highway.. She slammed into a car killing all three in that car and only one of her children survived...

At first everyone was confused as what happen.. did she have a stroke? did she black out? etc, etc, etc..

Today the toxicology (sp) reports showed she was way over the legal limit for alcohol and she also had pot in her system.. both of these were "fresh" (not sure what other word to use) in her system.. And they released today that there was a empty bottle of vodka in the car..

This story broke my heart.. This woman killed 7 ppl plus herself because of her addiction.. She had no regard for human life. I can't even imagine what the surviving
    families are going thru..

    Sad!

  84. Carol: Really sad. I read that today too. Also, about the guy that shot up the people in the gym. I go to the Y all the time, and actually, I have thought of that when I was out in the gym working out. I am paranoid like that.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Bebbi.. I did not know that about your screen name.. Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  86. scrishy: your post is so true. Those things mean a lot to me but you have to do what you have to do. Hugs.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes Bebbi.. I saw that too.. and read the guys blog.. all the internet news channel have it on their sites.. you can tell from every word he wrote that he was def not wrapped to tight.. So very scary..

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yep, sometimes he calls me Bebberlee too. But he has always written Bebbi in cards and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Carol: I found it extremely scary that he looked so "normal"..and he was really very handsome. Why couldn't he get a girlfriend? How could he work a job and that not show? Why do they always call those types of people "loners"? Who isn't a loner sometimes? I noticed most of the women were my age. Hank said that his ex-girlfriend was in the class..did you read that? How could he have "chickened out" and been posting all that stuff on the internet and no one even noticed! Omg.

  97. Kgrl; I have 2 questions.... When did you realize you preferred women over men, and are you a native Hawaiian, or are you an import? I guess this is #3: If you're an import, how did you go about relocating?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Bonacci..

The 2nd and 3rd part of your question can be found in a comment from Turtle to iteach @ 12:29p..

  99. Bebbi..

The niteline is just saying what everyone has said to today.. he was a reclusive, and angry at woman as he never meant the right one, so he blamed all women.. Sick and Scary...

  102. Carol, I hadn't heard that about the Woman in the van. I was hoping that wasn't the reason. It just drives me crazy to think so many died for such a stupid reason!!! Why why why????

    ReplyDelete
  103. Bonacci:

I have always "known". As far back as I can remember. To be honest I fought it thru Jr. High and HS, but I was never physically attracted to men. I tried to please my parents and family by dating men, but it felt so so so not right to me.

So to answer you question I think I fully understood it for myself at about the age of 7 or 8.

Born and raised in Illinois just outside of Chicago.

My ex partner was Hawaiian. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Mary My hair was curled using rags, too. : )

  105. I know Mary.. senseless and stupid..

  107. Carol, I responded to the blog before reading the comments. My apologies for being redundant. Chalk it up to the drugs which by the way, have been very helpful.

  108. Kgrl; There is a method to my madness... I suspect that my daughter is a lesbian, but she cannot or will not come to terms with it. She doesn't date, and her "church" forbids homosexuality, so I can only imagine the turmoil she's feeling. Any advice you have in terms of letting her know it's okay without being abrupt about the whole subject? I really want her to be happy and proud of who she is.

  109. hmmm.... do you want to have this discussion in an open forum or would you rather do it over myspace?
