Can you believe Nov. 3rd was National Sandwich Day and we forgot to honor it? :) Geesh what is the world coming to! :)
When I read that Tues. was National Sandwich Day it had me thinking. I was thinking that I love sandwiches, but I'm really not good at making them. Mine always look lame and sad. However, I have seen people put a lot of love in their sandwiches and they look like a piece of art when they are done.
Then I started to think about sandwiches from my youth. I now know why my mom always made us PB & J , it is such a cheap meal! Unfortunately out of the four kids in our house only one likes PB & J. Two like just PB and the other kid doesn't like PB or J.
I think sandwiches have been getting a lot of heat lately. People can just about pick apart about anything you want to eat. "Watch out for the bread, it has too many carbs" or "Watch out for the deli meat, it has too much sodium". Sometimes, I just say poo to it all and eat my sandwich. I so love a grilled cheese sandwich with extra pickles on the side!
In case you were wondering it was John Montagu who invented the sandwich. He was an Englishmen from the 18th century. He was playing cards and he only wanted to eat with one hand, so he ordered his servants to put his meat between two slices of bread.
I'm so salivating at the mouth right now thinking about sandwiches, I'm off to enjoy one from Subway!
Good Morning and congrats, LL! Loved the blog, Jennifer/iteach. We missed sandwich day! If I'd have known, I'd have had one to honor the occasion.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Hooters!
Yummy blog iteach!! :)
ReplyDeleteMany school lunches were made of PB&J at the Lane house. An apple, orange or banana made certain the bread was smashed and soaked in puple jelly goo before it was consumed.
I was always jealous of the kid whose mom broght in McDonalds. Lucky little brat!
(edited because I can't spell)
wtc!~
ReplyDeletewhat edit? :)~
ReplyDeletegood morning NN/LL and Bonachichi~
off to read the blog~
And here I was thinking that it was the Earl of Sandwich who devised this wonderful little concoction!
ReplyDeleteOff to put the little penis up my nose again....I swear, if I don't get rid of this headache soon, I am going to go running naked through the streets, screaming... What a sight that would be!
ReplyDeleteOh Iteach~ You have made me so hungry~ Saturday night I went to have dinner at the pub......because I was craving a sandwich! They make the BEST Turkey/avocado/tomato sandwiches EVER!!!! Oh so yummy~
ReplyDeleteScirish! No nekkidness on my watch! (unless it's George!)
Happy 40th Anniversary Sesame Street!~
ReplyDeleteTina, were you one of the original actors on Sesame Street?
ReplyDeleteYes. I'd been told some noble guy wanted to keep his fingers clean for the cards. But I thought there was an earl and a place called Sandwich in there, too. Are we wrong?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Oscar....did you say something?
ReplyDeleteI want a tuna sandwich.. yum.. :O)
ReplyDeleteScirish..
ReplyDeleteLOL.. penis up your nose..
LL..
ReplyDelete:O) happy wednesday!
Bonacci..
ReplyDeleteIs the 24hrs up?
Tina...
Did you have a beer with your sandwich?
Happy 40th.. Sesame Street.. google's home page is so darn cute..
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday.. Caryn.. (outattune)
ReplyDeleteIteach..
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun fact about John Montagu, I had not idea how the sandwich was invented.. and now I know..
Fun blog.. Thank You!
Good morning!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st NN!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARYN!!! Sending big hugs xoxo
I love tuna sandwiches! I love them cold, or grilled with a piece of cheddar cheese melted on it.
Had no idea there was an official day honoring sandwiches...
Have a good day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARYN!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters! Congrats on 1st Lois.
My favorite sandwiches are a Monte Cristo or any type of pannini. I prefer a warm sandwich to a cold one. But if I am having a cold one, I love a PB&J and potato chip sandwich on white bread. :)
Scrishy, I am no expert but I don't think that your nose is one of the places that the penis is normally put in to.... just sayin'
Speaking of penis-hope everyone has a good hump day!
EBJ..
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 25!!!!
Goldie..
ReplyDeleteI love penis..oh I mean pannini.. sorry..
(hangs head in shame)
EBJ..
ReplyDeleteDunkin Donuts has tuna sandwich on their menu now.. have not tried it yet, but I can't wait to..
Goldie...
ReplyDeletePBJ and PChips really?
Ok, who am I to judge, I eat tripe..
The 24 hours has been up. How'd you notice?? ;)
ReplyDeleteHow many of us will eat a sandwich for lunch today because of the blog? I know I will. I'm reading the comments like a menu, trying to decide which kind.
Big upset here in NJ.. Chris Christie pulled thru.. I think Jerseyans are really tired of our taxes choking us and totally in need of change..
ReplyDeleteSo lets hope the change shall begin..
Bonacci..
ReplyDeleteI have turkey with mustard on rye for lunch.. but now after reading all the delishishness here in the nest.. I want tuna..
What a great word..
ReplyDelete"delishishness"
I love it..
Off and running.. bbl..
ReplyDeleteTina, I had a poodle named Oscar and another named Elmo. And I've still got Ernie. Want to guess where the names came from?
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first No Newz!!!
Iteach in the words of Homer Simpson ummmmmmmm see the drool running down my chin?
I love sandwiches, whether it is a pbj dunked in chicken noodle soup or a grilled cheese dunked in tomato soup! Yummmy!
Goldie my fav of all time is the .....Monte Cristo! Hard to find now and if it is on a menu I am so there!!! God there is nothing better and a side of raspberry jam with it....heaven! I think I just had an O!
Whabby don't give up on WA state yet. Most of the counties here vote by mail in ballot and many of us drop our ballots at designated boxes the day of the elections because we don't trust the mail. Western WA is very open minded and most of the population lives on this side of the state. Hang in there! (((Hugs)))
Now lets see Bacon, tomato, lettuce, cheese slathered with Mayo or should I go for the tuna, onion, black olive and fennel with lettuce and mayo!
Lord I am hungry!
FYI...
ReplyDeleteJohn Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich.
Interesting blog Jennifer! I like PB and banana sandwiches or bacon and cheese.
Congrats on 1st No Newz!
Good morning Bonachichi, Tina, Scirish, Carol, EBJ, Goldie and Lynn D!
Bonachichi~ let me guess.....the names came.....OUTTA UR ASS!~
ReplyDeleteYummmm...Peanut butter and jelly with potato chips!!!!
ReplyDeleteSee Lynn?? I keep telling you we were seperated at birth somehow.
ReplyDeleteIf you find a Monte Cristo that is actully batter dipped and deep fried- then you can die and go to heaven. There is a place in Duluth MN that is called 'Grandma's and they did that, called it their Blue Plate Special. Havent' been there in 20 years, but oh my it was soooooooooo good!!
scrishy- pbj& chips= awesome. I also put chips on my sloppy joes.
Doing a flyby to say Happy birthday to Caryn!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh thanks for the kudos for #1 today. :) just skimmed the comments and became so hungry I could eat my own arm. :O
ReplyDeletexoxo
I'll fly in later.
Lynn D: Thanks! I need some reassuring words like that today. I'm still angry and devastated.
ReplyDeleteDavid Mixner wrote a column on his blog today that sums up where I'm at right now. Here's the gist of it:
First and foremost, Enough!
We have poured over $100,000,000 in the last two years into efforts where Americans feel it is there obligation to vote on our freedom. The entire concept is repugnant and disgusting. That we for the last three decades have been drawn into this game of 'this is politics' and fighting these ballot box horrors so that maybe by in five, ten or twenty years we will have enough victories to force our federal government to protect our freedom is simply not acceptable anymore. Imagine the good we could have done with all that money. Imagine the civil rights movement we could have built if we had the leadership that was willing to think out of the box and put it on the line.
Second, call this campaign against us what it is - Gay Apartheid.
Refuse to allow any of our fellow Americans, President Obama or our allies to view this as a political issue who time hasn't quite come. America is in the process of creating a system of Gay Apartheid. We will not quietly sit and accept it. All over the place, this nation is creating one set of laws for LGBT Americans and another set for all other Americans. That is the classic definition of Apartheid. Either our political allies are for Gay Apartheid or against it. If they are against it, they must fight with us and no longer duck like President Obama did in Maine and Washington. There is no half way in fighting Apartheid.
I don't want to be a brave warrior, I want to be a free one.
Enough!
Lois, but think about it, today that same who's mom got them mcdonald's probably has high cholesterol and is taking medication. haha...so there is a happy reason to stick with PB&J. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first too. Also, that was fun on the SR chat last night. You crack me up, woman!
Happy Birthday Caryn!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog iteach..I love Sammiches. Or as Rachel Ray calls them - Sammies!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday Owls.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, Have you gone back to Iteach as a screen name? Great blog today. PB&J is my fave, too...no wait..it's Italian deli meats...no wait...it's tuna. Oh hell, I LOVE all sammies, and Goldie, I like to put potato chips in any sammie. When I was in school, the kids thought I was crazy to do that until they tried it. I converted them all.
***Happy Birthday, Caryn!***
ReplyDeleteNN/LL Congrats on being first, again, all smiley and everything. :)
Bonach Apparently, Sesame Street was big in your house.
Tina I'm not sure why I'm licking my lips....is it all the descriptions of sandwiches or that yummy pic of George?
Scirish Please remove the penis from your nose before you go out in public.
Carol Tuna is one of my favs, too. I like to put garlic salt and dill weed in it.
EBJ Congrats on 25!
Goldie As a teen, I used to make plain cheese sandwiches with potato chips inside of it, then kind of squish it so the chips break up in it. Still like it to this day.
LynnD I really like PB&J but have never dunked one in anything. Love a grilled cheese with tomato soup.
Shirley I've never tried PB and banana. Elvis loved them. :)
Bear I am truly sorry that change is not coming quicker. I remember as a teen, being totally shocked to discover that there were people in parts of our country who were not allowed to vote. I was dumbfounded, actually. Change never comes quickly or easily or without pain but it will come. (((HUGS)))
Bebbi I still enjoy a PB&J. I like it with strawberry preserves.
Iteach That was a fun blog today. Thank you! Because I'm counting calories, I've been having turkey sandwiches quite often. I love a BLT. I also like to put sliced tomato in my cheese sandwich before grilling it. It makes it juicy and oh, so yummy!
SacBarb Waving a wing at you. Didn't see you come in while I was typing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on flying in first, NN.
ReplyDeleteScirish, From A51, I gave up my Saturn SC2 three door. It was a cute little car with a backseat that only a child could be comfortable in, so I got a Saturn Aura Hybrid. It's a nice car and it is comfortable, but I was told I would 35mph and so far, the highest has been 26mph.
BTW, does running nekkid through the streets get rid of a headache? And if so, ARE YOU READING ZONA?
Waving a wing to all the other Owls. I hope you all have a great day.
Hi J/L. How's the weather there? We are having another beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteWow. People really have some opinions on their sandwiches. Good for us! We like what we like.
ReplyDeleteWhab, I think it will be so fun to watch the politicians back pedal when marriage preservation (divorce ban) is put on the ballot. Like Christmas!
Happy Birthday Caryn!
ReplyDeleteITEACH: Club sandwiches..bacon, turkey, ham, lettuce and tomato on toasted white bread..I just love them! I also like pastrami and swiss on rye..if the pastrami is lean and sliced thin..it's like a little taste of heaven.
Has anyone ever had a Reuben sandwich? I've never been brave enough to try one, although I hear they are very good.
Yummy blog today ITEACH, thank you!
LL/NN: Congrats on FIRST! I think you spell just fine.. ;)
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH: Are you sure the penis up your nose isn't causing your headache..last time I did that I had to stay in bed for days.. ;)
Feel better soon SCIRISH!
TINA: I never had avocado on a sandwich until I tried the California Club at TGIF's..yum is right!
EBJ: Grilled tuna with tomato..so good..
GOLDIE: I've never heard of a Monte Cristo..I'll have to google that..
CAROL: LOL @ your freudian slip..me too! :D
LYNND: Omg..there is nothing better than grilled cheese and tomato soup on a cold day..obviously we don't have them often..but they are so good..
SHIRLEY: Bacon and anything..you can't go wrong..
SACBARB: I have been putting potato chips on my salami sandwiches since 4th grade..now that I've gotten older I use Munchos..the grown up chip..lol..
btw..it might get rid of my headache..but I think it would give a headache to everyone else on the street..ijs.. ;)
J/LIN: I'm a chip squisher too! :D
BONACHI: I just had a salami sandwich..definitely got a craving from the blog! ;)
BEAR: Sometimes I just don't understand..I'm so sorry..

ReplyDeleteoh baby George~
ReplyDeleteI've just finished looking at Reuben and Monte Cristo sandwiches via Google. I had no idea sandwich history was so fascinating. It could be a college major. Like art.
ReplyDeleteI want a sandwich. I can't get one because I'm babysitting some programs that are running. I hope help shows up soon.
*jealous of not having a small nasal penis*
ReplyDeleteGoldie I love Ruffles on a Manwich. :)
Weirdest sammie I like it peanut butter and bacon on toast. I like to call if the heartattck waiting to happen plate. :)
Good point Bebbi! And along with their high blood pressure and whatnot, they never had sweet notes like my mom always put in my lunch. So who really was the lucky one?!?! I had a lot of fun last night too, thanks.
Owl be back later...get it? Owl instead of I'll, knee slapper stuff right there! ;)
Hi...yummy blog today as I sit here eating my Lean Cuisine pizza (which really isn't too bad).
ReplyDeleteJ/L and GOLDIE: I always put potato chips between my bread on a sandwich...especially tuna and pb&j.
I don't know if any of you have a Bennigans but they have a great Monte Cristo with the jam too.
So, we now know how ZONA AND SCIRISH get headaches...they put a penis up their nose? I thought I had a little experience in life but have never heard of that process. It seems a little awkward but hey, who I am to judge someones preferences.
SCIRISH: FRom Area 51...it is okay sometimes to go to bed for a couple of days when you are feeling down. I think it helps get some thought together and some needed rest. The important part is that you got up after a couple of days. Don't be hard on yourself.
Happy Birthday Caryn and lots more to come.
TINA: You must be bored at work again today. I had to get up early after not much sleep but have been trying to get a few things done....like order a couple of thngs from a catalog and of course, farming!!
JODI: How did the dr appt go for your dad on Monday. I don't think I have heard a report on him and how he is doing. Please let me know.
Our weather is so beautiful this week. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 70's...one week after three feet of snow!
I do have to tell you guys something funny. I posted my grandkids halloween pictures to FB and My Space from my phone. I also posted a picture of our patio last Thursday with all the snow. I am not to smart at doing this from my phone. BONNIE emailed me to tell me she was going to ask me what was under all that snow on my FB page. She then went over to My Space and somehow under the snow picture it said, "my 4 year old grandson". I looked and sure enough....I still am laughing about it!!
DIANNE: It wasn't done on purpose..just bad aim..ijs.. ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay iteach, you did it. I had to come home and have a Turkey sandwich for dinner..lol. It was delicious!
ReplyDeleteI had a tuna sandwich on sourdough bread but it would have been so much better with potato chips or Fritos on the side. I didn't have either. :(
ReplyDeleteAll day I wanted a sandwich. What I got was oatmeal this morning (which was awful, by the way) and string beans for dinner.
ReplyDeleteMr. B says I'll eat meat when I'm hungry enough. Not yet!
I LOVE sammiches! PB, grape jelly and a nanner...YUMMMO!! Turkey and avocado with tomato and mayo...YUMMO! Avocado, tomato, swiss and mayo on whole wheat...YUMMMO! Corned beef with ketchup on seedless rye...YUMMMO! The list goes on and on and on...!!
ReplyDeleteDIANNE...I can't answer myspace messages, but I will ask ZONA to send it to you.
GOLDIE and LYNN...when I worked at the coffee house / bar / restaurant we served a KILLER Monte Cristo. It was decadently deliscious! The bread was dipped in egg and the sammy made on the panini press then the whole thing was dusted in powdered sugar! OMG!
CARYN...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
PENIS UP THE NOSE?????????? Either someone has big nostrils or it is a wee pee pee!!
We had an interesting day at work today. 1st, the computer system got a virus so we couldn't ise the computers. Then the phone system went dead. Then they overhead page to evacuate the building. It was freaking cold and we all grabbed our coats and purses and left the building. A few minutes later 3 firetrucks and ambulance pull up. It seems one of air conditioners on the roof burned up. Luckily no flames, just a boat load of smoke! We had to stand out in the freezing cold for about 45 minutes before they would let us back in. About 1, the computers were back up, but they blocked everything on the internet so no checking of emails, google, mapquest...NOTHING! But at least we could work...until 4 when they crapped out again! Then at 5 the phones took a dive, too!! Not the most productive day today!
ReplyDeleteMo, I'm sorry your computers were trying to take over your office. Or was it the A/C taking over the computers? Regardless, sometimes not being able to work isn't so fun, yes?
ReplyDeleteCHI CHI...it's kinda funny in a sick way! I was already 2 days behind as I had to spend Mon and Tues on a project that kept me from my regular work. I expected to bury nose in it today to catch up...ha ha ha! Tomorrow should be fun being 2.5 days behind!!! I'm thinking some more overtime may be heading my way!!
ReplyDeleteAt least you got to see some hunky fire guys, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteCHI CHI...oh yeah, baby! I love firemen / paramedics! I did have to flirt with one ;)~ I asked him if he would go into the bldg and get my coffee off my desk! Of course he had to decline that! Then I asked him if I could take a ride on the hook and ladder! He told me he is afraid of heights, doesn't like fire and blood grosses him out...with the cutest wink! It was kind of sad to see them go! It was funny...a bunch of us girls snapping pics on our phones!! Too bad I didn't get one of my fireboy!
ReplyDeleteActually, it was hot cocoa on my desk! I never drink it, but I had such a craving for it. I stopped on my to work and got one at the gas station. By the time I got back to my desk it was cold cocoa!
ReplyDeleteMO What a bizarre day you had at work today! Too bad you didn't think to grab that cocoa before you left the bldg. It would have nice to have it out there in the cold. Hey, a little overtime is nice for the paycheck, anyway.
ReplyDeleteJUST LIN...across our parking lot is a dialysis center. I am pretty friendly with most of the people there. So at one point the office manager comes out and aks what was going on so I told her. Then I asked her if they had any coffee and a paper cup as it was so cold and the bitch tells me they unplugged the pot and turns around and walks away! So much for being neighborly!!
ReplyDeleteTrust me, if we ever have to evacuate again the coffee (or cocoa!) goes with me!!
Hello everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed today's blog, thank you. It was fun to type. I soooooooo love food. :)
I loved reading everyone's favorite sammies.
How about we all open up a deli!!!!
Called the Night Owls!
Open all night with wireless internet service.
Big comfy couches with TV shows playing.
Shirley could write out the menus.
Whabby could share out of space tales and mix all the drinks.
Mary could have her karokee machine going and she could be spinning us some tunes.
Oh, wouldn't that be so much fun.
I'll pole dance~ :D
ReplyDeleteITEACH Looks like you knew I was close by lol! Just call me "Have Karaoke will travel". The cafe sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sammie is anything with avocados, especially turkey. It is all I can do not to whip up a sandwich right now!
I had my oil changed today. I could just eat my mechanic, with or without bread lol! He is young and gorgeous! I am sure that he would find a better place then my nose to.... well you know lol!!
I took a sauna tonight and ran around in the rain nekkid. It was only 45 deg. but I didn't notice it. I may be too relaxed to farm tonight, well almost!
Whabby, I am sad that you are sad :( All good things are worth waiting for. I hope it won't be too long.
I never heard of a
"Monte Cristo".
Lord help me stay out of the kitchen tonight!! Amen
Thanks, Mary! People have been counseling me to have patience all day. I will try!
ReplyDeleteiteach: I would be honored to be the bartender!
ReplyDelete'weenie: Talk about workplace disruptions with "benefits"! :)
ReplyDeleteOn my way to bed. I had to show off my avatar :). I found this under "sexy carpenters". :):)
