Nostalgia

There is nothing like an old song to bring memories to the surface. When I hear this song, I am flooded with memories of the days of my parents, and the stories they told me while they raised my brother and I. This song is part of their era, yet it's a song that goes on forever. Many artists have since sung this song with different twists, and each time I hear a new version, I stop and listen. It is a true classic and a joy to listen to.

Even tho, there are tragedies around us daily, we must always remember.

"What a Wonderful World" it is!

  2. My favorite song of all time!! Thank you, Carol!

Good morning and Happy Friday to everyone; Shirley, you know you don't have to get up early to get #1. You could just pencil yourself in.

Off to throw some things in a duffle. I'm leaving town and I know ahead of time. It is a wonderful world!

  3. Morning glories!

    Congrats on first Shirley!

Carol I was thinking about this song a few days ago and was even considering pulling it from Youtube for a Sunday blog.

NO ONE can sing this song like Louis Armstrong. Bonachichi it is my fav too. As a matter of fact I want this played at my memorial when the time comes.

There is a message of hope and a bittersweet sadness at the same time. Words so simple yet it evokes so much emotion, for me anyway, it is classic because no matter what we go through time marches on and people if they stop to look around, see the same sky, clouds, night sky and rainbows.

    Simply beautiful.

  6. So.. heres the back story of the blog today..

I was ready last nite to write all about this crazy nut that killed those ppl in Fort Hood.. As I started the blog the words flowed, however I started to become angry, and the hateful words started to appear. My anger brought back all the memories of 9/ll.. I heard last nite on the news, that this crazy nut "praised Allah" as he was shooting...When I read the blog back to myself, I sounded like a hateful racist person..

So I deleted it.. switched my thoughts to good things.. and thought exactly what Shirley said in her comment.. Hence my blog..

What scared me the most of my original blog, is the hatred I have buried deep within me for anyone with perhaps terrorist ties.. or that praises Allah as they kill ppl.. I want them gone, I want them dead..

This was hard to write, as I see what you see in words..

I am hoping someday I can find peace from these feelings..

  8. Happy Friday Owls.

Carol, I loved waking up to this song. I play it often at home to remind me exactly of what Shirley and Lynn said. It puts things in perspective and is a timeless classic. Thanks for the diversion from the tragic news of today.

It is so hard to understand what goes through a person's mind as they decide to commit such a hideous and terrifying act. I guess I'll never understand it.

  9. Shirley, Congrats on capturing the #1 spot today.

  12. Good Morning Shirley- Congrats on first.

Good Morning Bonachichi, Lynn Carol, Scirrish, Barb and Goldie.

Carol - That is one of my very favourite songs. It never fails to make me feel warm all over.
Songs evoke memories almost the same way odours do. They take you right back to "that moment in time". When I hear the song "Harbour Lights" I am transcended back to the "Last Waltz" at our High Dances. Memories can be such a wonderful things. When I was a teen ager my bedroom was across from my parents. I would listen to their radio and try and hear their conversations. The station would sign off each night at eleven with the song "May the Good Lord Bless And Keep You". Then there was silence. What a warm safe memory that song brings back to me.

I have been MIA because of not feeling well. I could play on my farms because I could that without thinking but I couldn't seem to read or comment. It took too much effort.

I hope everyone is well. Love, Tinka

  13. Good Morning!

CAROL: I just love this song..it's musical Happy Blue.

When things in my life have my mind racing I can always count on Louis Armstrong's rendition of this song to calm me down..make me smile..help me to put everything into perspective. Isn't it amazing that such a simple song can evoke the amount of emotion that this one does?

I know I'm going to listen to this over and over again today CAROL..thank you.

  14. SHIRLEY: Congrats on FIRST! I thought your comment was perfect.

BONACHI: Where are you off to this weekend? I hope it's for pleasure..not work. :)

    LYNND: Beautiful.

GOLDIE: 'We can use all the smiles we can get..' I so agree.. :) :)

TINKA: I hope you are feeling better today.

SACBARB: I'll never understand either. :(

CAROL: The news yesterday completley stunned me. Not only the horrific shooting at Ft. Hood..but so many other stories I heard..the teenager set on fire because of a video game..the young man pushed into traffic and killed..I kept waiting for a little glimmer of good news..but the bad went on and on..Thank you again for this song today CAROL..it's something to hold onto in a world that seems to have gone a little mad..

  15. TINA: Sorry I missed your blog yesterday..I LOL'd at the pics..I can't believe your co-workers actually turned you in..yeah right..TINA did it...LOL! I think it's great that your boss takes something like a fire drill..which is mundane but necessary..and has a little fun with it..sounds like you work at a pretty nice place!

  16. Mr Z and I saw 'This Is It' yesterday..the movie about Michael Jackson's last concert tour. It was very, very good. I couldn't help thinking "what a waste" that this amazing performer was gone way too soon. It made me feel the loss all over again.

I hope everyone has a nice Friday..and if anything does get you down..CAROL has provided a great song to help us get through the day.. :)

  17. Omg..just turned on the news and there are shootings in Orlando..what the hell is going on?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Zona, Orlando is unfortunate. I think we'll be seeing this in the future as a result of the economy.

I saw This Is It last week; I was saddened that I didn't appreciate a genius when I could.

I am of for an exciting dash to... Nipomo. Never heard of it? Nobody has. I'll check back later.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well....i guess I'm nobody~ Nipomo is where my cousin Reuben lives~

  20. Bonachichi, OMG I know exactly where Nipomo is. I lived in Santa Maria for a long time and I still have tons of relatives there. If you get a chance, go to Jocko's for the best steak you've ever had...oh never mind, I forgot you don't eat meat. They have good beans, too, if you eat those. I can't imagine what you are going there for, there isn't anything else there. LOL You can always go to Pismo Beach just up the road.

  21. I love Loui Armstrong, especially
"Hello Dolly". "What a Wonderful World" is a Karaoke favorite for manny.

It seems like a quiet day in the nest.
I have been busy painting my kitchen. I forgot how messy a job it is.
Tomorrow night I have a Karaoke job to do. Sunday I hope to do NOTHING!

Tina, I have a cousin named Reuben too. I am not sure of his spelling.

A little owl told me someone special is having a Birthday Sunday, right Diane? :)

  22. Shirley Congrats on being #1 today!

Bonach I'd probably need a duffle just for my hair products. LOL

LynnD Your words today were simply beautiful, too.

Scirish Some days I feel pretty sappy, too.

SacBarb It's so hard to comprehend why someone would do such a thing.

Goldie I hope you have a great weekend. Enjoy your good weather.

Tinka I'm so sorry that you haven't been feeling well. I hope things are better soon. (((HUGS)))

Zona Unfortunately, there seems to be no end to the bad news these days. :(

    Tina How was "lock-up"? ;)

Mary Congrats on 25 but I think you missed the mark on that 69. Nice try, though.

Carol Thank you for choosing this wonderful song for us today. In my opinion, it is the very best rendition. When we hear of all the bad things happening, it is good to remember all the good that is out there, too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mary, just march right to that 69!

I am here. In Nipomo. I don't know exactly where it is besides California, but apparently everyone else does. I am not sure why I am here. Whatever it is, it will probably hurt.

  24. Oh, Carol, I so love that song. Our wedding party danced to it.

Also during Black American History Month we always make a mural to the lyrics of this song.
