~ This Is It! ~

by Tina~in_ut

I bugged the hubby to go see This Is It, the movie about Michael Jackson. That's the great thing about vacation.......we had the time to do that. I knew I would enjoy it, but I didn't realize how it would make me feel in the end. I originally thought, "Oh great! Another way for the Jackson family to make some money!" Maybe so, but when they started interviewing the dancers, all these young people who flew in from all over the world, for the chance of a lifetime......to dance with Michael Jackson!!!....they had me! They show footage of the dancers auditioning and Michael actively participating in the selection. Over 5000 kids showed up and only a dozen chosen. It was moving to watch how much a chance like this meant to them. It didn't seem to be about money or fame, but about the opportunity to learn from the very best.

I also enjoyed watching Michael interact with everyone. He seemed to want everyone to shine, but at the same time, knew exactly what he wanted. HE was in charge. HE ran the show. Yet he did it very quietly.....if that makes any sense.

I hope you get a chance to see the film. If you ever liked his music, I think you will.....and then some~

  4. Good morning, Hooters! I've been MIA recently, between farming and keeping up with the work that has inundated me. I'm thinking of you all. Michael Jackson was taken from us much too soon. I wish I appreciated him when I could.

  5. Love Michael Jackson's music, and his dancing!

Tina: Yep, you did it again! You and Shirley... Shirley and you... LOL!

    Hello, Bon and Lois!

  6. Morning Glories!

Imagine Tina got first on her own blog......Vacation my ass!

Tina I have mixed feeling about all of this. I understand how the estate would need to make money for the children but at the same time it bothers me that it takes his death to make that money. So it seems so exploitive.

I also saw where Janet Jackson has not seen this movie yet because she thinks Michael would not have been happy with it as he was a perfectionist and would have wanted only the final polished product out. He took great pride in his work.

    Like I said mixed feelings.

  7. Good Morning!

TINA: I really liked this movie. It was so interesting to see what goes into making a show of this magnitude..and there is no doubt in my mind it would have been an incredible concert to see. I agree with you that the interaction between Michael and his dancers was cool to watch..especially the way they encouraged him from the 'audience' when he was working out routines onstage. Yes he was controlling..but it was his name on the marquee..his reputation as an entertainer on the line, so he had every right to make sure the show was exactly what he wanted it to be.

By the time the movie was finished, I felt his loss all over again. We all know he had personal problems..but in the end..the talent shines through..and after seeing this movie..there's just no denying what an amazing talent it was.

    Great blog today TINA..thank you.

  8. TINA: Congrats on FIRST..I really loved the movie..I'm glad you got to see it... ;)

LYNN: I was worried about the movie being exploitive too..but I think it would have been a real waste not to show the footage they had filmed of this concert..they were only about 5 days from opening night. I looked at it more as a coda of his life and work. I think Janet probably doesn't like that you get a glimpse of the 'real' MJ..but that only makes you understand him and appreciate his talent more..imho..

BEAR: I didn't see one meteor this morning! Maybe I was facing the wrong direction..one weatherman said SE..the other said NW..I was spinning back and forth like a top at 2am! I'll have to catch it online..but I would have loved to see it for real..and made a couple wishes as well!

    Hi LL/NN..Hi BONACHI!

  9. LYNN: I just realized..imho..LOL!

I'm waiting for the guy from the electric company. He's going to swap out our meter for another one. I asked the person who makes the appointments why they had to do this..because the meter is not that old..I wondered if it was an upgraded model. She told me.."No..you aren't due for the new 'smart meter' for a couple months. I think they want to change this one out because your bills have been too low." WTF?! They tell us to conserve, conserve, conserve..then when we do...they think their equipment is faulty. sheesh..

  11. TINA - I have seen this movie, not once, but twice!!! And I definitely think it is worth seeing on the big screen if you can. I cannot begin to express how it made me feel....I was literally in tears several times. It's just wrong that someone that was so talented has left us too soon!! I'm glad that they released this film. His children will get a glimpse of the awesome talent of their father.

    LOIS - :O) back atcha!!

BONACHICHI - I think there are many people that feel that same way.

WHABBY - You would've never guessed his age in this film. He still could dance is ass off!! It was also amazing to see the new footage for Thriller and Smooth Criminal!!!

LYNN - I had mixed feelings too, but I went with my heart, and I'm glad that I did!!!

ZONA - The actual concert would've been mind blowing!!! I'm glad that you and the Mr. were able to see it!!! BTW.....Happy Birthday to Mr. Z!!!

MARY - Too bad it's not playing near you anymore. I had actually seen a report that because it's doing so well, they are going to keep it out til Thanksgiving.

  12. Up and rushing out the door to go and help my daughter do some work with her job. The pay isn't in my purse but it is much better just to see her get some relief and spend some time with her. The problem I have is that I just want to sit and talk!

MARY: You hooted very loud last night in your sleep and kept me up quite late...between you hooting and my farm animals mooing and clucking!

TINA: I haven't seen the movie yet but plan to with the girls. My grandsons went and loved it with my son and DIL. I do want to see it even tho' it was music more from "your day". I still want Babs and Sinatra! Oh yea...and single lady.Beyonce.

ZONA: Happy Birthday to MrZ. He and my SIL share the same day bday...plus they are Scorpios! Now I realize why MrZ wants to do all that "swimming" as it is born in a Scorpio...hot blooded!

Ok morning to everyone else as I have to get out of here. LYNN: I love the pictures of Ritchie. He has gotten so big and is adorable!

One more thing, sorry MO, I think your team lost last night.

  15. Tina Congrats on taking advantage of the "if you snooze, you lose" loop hole! LOL Someday I will see this on the small screen. He was surely a mega-talent and a creative genius, undoubtedly. What a shame it is that he died too soon.

NN/LL Happy Tuesday to you, too!

Bonach Hope your work is satisfying and enjoyable.

Bear Maybe Tina and Shirley have found a secret tunnel into the nest. Ya think?

LynnD I never saw the film as being exploitive. Obviously, his creative process was being filmed anyway, and I think it would be a shame to not let us see all the hard work and brilliance went into that process.

Mary I'm sure it will be on DVD eventually.

Jodi I see you're still wearing your Bronco outfit. I guess you're not as angry at the team as Dianne is.

  16. Dianne Have a good day pretending to "work". And Happy Birthday to your SIL.

Zona Happy Birthday to Mr.Z. Will there be any breast strokes involved in the celebration?

  17. Afternoon Glories!

Zona Mr. Z is having a birthday? Happy Birthday to him!

J/L I told you I had mixed feelings. I guess it feels exploitive to me because of all of the coverage of his death and then this right on the heels. I go back and forth on this one.

Dianne thank you! He is a cutie and yes time is passing so fast.

Ok I am gone the rest of the day. We are cleaning the darn food bank for the legislators that cancelled on us a few months ago. Now they are ready to come check us out again. With no notice. Argggh just want to make sure things are ship shape. Then we have a crew of volunteers coming in as we are putting together our Thanksgiving bags to start giving out tomorrow. I think it is going to be a busy few days.

Thursday I meet with a United way representative. When it rains it pours oh crap! I just realized that Friday I have to be there to coordinate a food drop from the high schools food drive.

Well it looks like I will be camping at the food bank this week.

See you all later if I am not to worn out.

  19. Tina I am not a Michael fan. For some stupid reason my computer won't let me watch the video. This happened before and I fix it...I just have to remember how.

  20. Oh Tina, you were obviously reading from an outdated version of the by-laws. The new version clearly states "YOU ARE WRONG AND SHIRLEY IS RIGHT". Perhaps when you were translating from Canadian to American you got a few words wrong. It happens.

  21. Shirley~ go shower...you smell funny!~

  22. Good evening/afternoon Tina, No Newz, Bonachichi, Whabbear, Lynn D, Zona, Mary, Jodi, Dianne and Just Lin.

  29. Sure, now SHIRLEY will be cooking special things for TINA. Well, she loves gingerbread, eggnog and pumpkin pancakes...she told me that a long time ago.

LYNN; You sound so busy. You are sure a special person to your community. I hope you have that bottle of wine chilling as we speak.

I am supposed to be working and I am but I kind of go on the marketplace of the farm and now the kids are gone to parent teacher conference so I am on my "coffee break".

I have to tell you all something that I think is so cute and funny. My four year old grandson is in pre-school and they tried to draw turkeys to celebrate the holiday. They went around the little class telling what they were thankful for today. Most of the kids said their mommy or daddy or family...when it came to my grandson, he said he was thankful for chicken nuggets! This child loves to eat.

Ok, guess I had best get back to work before my boss comes back..:)

  30. DIANNE - Don't forget to put Pumpkin Cheesecake on that list for TINA.....ijs!!! And your Grandson sounds a lot like my boys. Always thinking with their stomachs!!! :O)

SHIRLEY - I nominate you for Best Supporting Actress!!! BRAVO!!!

  31. What happened Bear? Did it slip out?~

    ReplyDelete
  32. Tina has a Grandson? I was only gone a few hours!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Like LYNN, I am indecisive about this. My initial thoughts were this is purely coming from greed. From the tour producers to gain back the money they lost from the cancelled tour and greed from the family. Michael supported most of them in life and now will continue to support them in his death.

I don't deny that he was an immense talent. But I think it is a little too soon to watch him on stage.

Oh, what the hell do I know

  34. JODI: I love your avatar...keep it please!

DIANNE - Glad you like my avatar!! I think I'll keep it for awhile. :O)
