Day of Thanks

by Bonacci

*** DISCLAIMER *** This blog is not funny. It may become funny, but the author denies any and all blame for this incidence, should it occur.

Not to take undue credit, but I believe I am the resident newbie here at the Nest. It’s not a label I like, but I think I’m the most recent one to take up residence and not just enjoy the lunacy silently. We all know where I came from. I was quite happy there for a time because of the acceptance and camaraderie there. Boy, I had no idea.

I tried to be polite and asked permission to come in. I was welcomed with open arms. I put my foot in my mouth several times and was either gently nudged or in Tina’s case, just told to shut up. Everyone seemed to know each other so well. It was as if you were all life-long friends who naturally gather to share your lives. I didn’t feel like an outsider for long, mostly because of the warm welcome and encouragement to jump in that everyone offered.
I could single people out. Each resident here at the Nest has a distinct and glorious personality well worth noting. I’m not going to do that because this blog is about the community itself, not each individual.

The Nest is not a blog. Well, technically it might be, but it’s more. It’s a family. I have so many sisters, a few brothers and more nuts than I’ll ever know what to do with. I come here eagerly each day to see how everyone’s doing. There’s always something happening.

What, in my life, did I do that merits the reward of the Nest? It is truly a wondrous place. Who are these people who allowed me into this amazing community, who made me feel so much a part? It defies belief that such a place exists. There are real friendships here. People actually care. We laugh, cry, scream and ponder.

I know better than to take the Nest for granted. It exists because well, Carol started it, but everyone keeps it going. Without each and every person here, it just wouldn’t be the same. It seems as if many of us are feeling the same way about our appreciation of this community. I’ve seen some comments that broach the subject. It’s a good subject and one well worth devoting an entire day to. I don’t have the words to describe what the Nest truly means to me, so I’ll just say, “Damn glad to be here.”

Maybe today we could have a special Thanksgiving just for the Nest? What here, are we thankful for? I know I said it wasn’t about individuals, but I’d like to start the Day of Thanks by saying Thank You to Carol and her small army who keep the Nest going. You’ve given so many of us a home.

  2. BONACHI: The nest really is a wonderous place isn't it? Anytime of the day..you can come here, put your feet up..relax..smile..laugh out loud..sigh..give hugs and support..and comment back to a group of people who not only 'get' you..but who CARE..and that, to me..is worth more than anything. I feel safe here..I have friends here..and I'm so thankful to CAROL for building a place for all of us to meet and share our day.

I'm also thankful to each and every one of you..you have all enriched my life more than you will ever know.

  3. Area 51:

BARB: Mr Z now tells me if it's good or bad news..I told him I told this story..and he said "Did you tell them I was just too excited not to give you a hint?" lol..

TINA & CAROL: It was already spent before it got to the house.. ;)

MO: I'm not too good at slappin'..I have other ways to show I'm not too happy that are just as..if not more effective.. ;)

btw..Mr Z came home last night and asked me if I would make more Monkey bread..I started to list the ingredients..and he held up a bag from the store..he'd already bought them! :D

My internet connection is lousy today..I don't know what's going on...yesterday the power was out for 2 hours..came on and then went off again..so frustrating. I even checked to make sure I paid the bill..I did! :)

  4. Morning Glories!

Zona slid into first! Take that Tina and Shirley!!

Yes this nest is truly a blessing bonachichi! I am so happy that I found these wonderful people. Some I have met some I have not but I feel like I know them all.

They are a caring, funny, witty and loving group. We may not always agree on everything but we ALWAYS agree to disagree and respect our friends. So hard to find anymore.

So I am thankful for each and everyone of you and Carol for having the foresight and fortitude to keep it going.

    Muwaaah to you all.

  5. Hope that made sense as I just crawled out of bed and have not had any cawfee yet.

  7. Good Morning Hooters!

    Zonabaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaby!!! Congrats on 1st!

Bona- I am feeling all warm and fuzzy now. Well, maybe that has something to do with not enough coffee yet-but your blog is part of the reason.

I agree with everything you said. We all stuck our toe in to test the waters and some chose not to swim, while others dove in head first! This is a place where you can come and go as much as you like and always be welcome.

I am most thankful for the many friendships I have made. I am especially grateful for the flesh and blood friendship I made with Jodi. I wish I could do the same with everyone else here too!

Hope everyone has a good day!!

  10. oh stop Bonacci....ur embarrassing me!!!!

I think this place was a natural progression for this initial group from the Ross blog and I am sorry that there are still some unmended fences......but everything worked out for the best.....and Carol created the solution.......

I did and said some terrible things at the Ross blog and lost many friends....and over time......I have evolved into a better person to share a laugh or a cry with....and its because of wanting to be here and the steadfast rule of no bashing....

I appreciate Carols patience with me and her defense of me....Tina's faith in me.....and everyones acceptance of me.....

Ok ....I finally said it and I am glad.......thanks for bringing it out of me today Bonacci....

  11. Bonacci...

I have been thankful for the nest for sometime now. As I got older I found myself spending more time at home, and in kinda of a lonely state.. Having the nest to come to has sure been a unexpected joy. I am very glad for many who have stayed with the nest. I agree with Goldie, anyone can come and go and will always be welcomed.. I love to come here and see what everyone is doing, ya know, like who farted, or who has diarrhea, or who is pole dancing, or who tricked the night before.. ya know all that good stuff..

It is def a group effort.. soooo thank you to all..

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bonacci..

    Sorry forgot..

Glad you stuck with us, I am sure it must have been hard jumping right in.. I am very gald you felt welcomed, I feel that is so important for any new person testing the waters..

    and

    Thanks for todays blog..

    :O)

  14. Well, that's another thing I am thankful for. I can tease and people know it's my way of showing affection.

I have also learned many lessons on inter-personal skills. I think I'm a better person because of the Nest. Certainly, it made me accept myself for who I am. Warm fuzzies... Enjoy them whilst you can because they don't come out of me often.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dee..

Perhaps I did find the solution, but everyone followed my lead, which made it all work out.. I sooo believe it was all in the cards for us to meet here.

I believe in the nest and all who come here. I appreciate your words...

    TY!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bonacci..

Remember I am a crackwhore, so I get the warm fuzzies very often, at least once a day. Tina on the other hand gets them 5 times a day. Cause ya know she is the Queen Crackwhore..

    :O)

Good morning, Zona, Lynn D, DeeDee, Goldie, and Carol! DeeDee, there's a post for you at the end of A51!

And, you know, it's interesting. The Rossblog used to be full of interpersonal drama and bashing and internet trolls. But that's not been the case since he left NBC.

  37. Finally caught up on yesterdays comments and I have to say I always thought a flash mob was whipping open your trench coat in a crowd. Who knew you are supposed to dance to?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am having an interesting time keeping up with the comments today. I look, and they're there. I look again, there's more, but in different order. A third time, and a new order. WTF??

Mr. B gave me a protein drink to help with my allergies. It's made by some people called Schnapp. Like Snapple, I think. They have different flavors, but this peach one is pretty good.

Now. Who is dinking with the comments and my head?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Shirley if Dianne the Narc in Denver gets 10 brownie points then I think I should get 10 cupcake points!!! Thanks!

Bon share that peach snopes with the rest of us would you?

Ok out to do some xmas shopping. Pray for me.

  41. This is suppose to be sung to the tune of "The Brady Bunch" TV theme song. I know it isn't very good but indulge me anyway!

Here's the story, of a lovely owl,
Who was sitting all alone in her tree.
A few owls came to visit.
Then there were more than three.

When the word got out, about the Nest,
Owls came from other blogs to gather.
Some were crackwhores, and some just tedious.
Yet they all liked to played.

Till the one day when this owl had a thought,
And she knew that it was much more than a hunch.
That this group would somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became The Night Owls.
The Night Owls, The Night Owls.
That's the way we all became The Night Owls!

  42. Shirley, that is both sweet and hilarious at the same time! There's some truth to what you write; I saw it when I came here. Unlikely people getting together and making a family. I was envious at first; now I feel like one of you. We can all be neighbors and roommates when we're comitted to the institution.

  58. Zona Congrats on being first today! Not easy to do that around here.

Bonach What a nice blog you wrote! You are so right. This is a very special place for nuts, marchers, crackwhores, belly dancers, swimmers, bears, and all types of friendly and funny folks. I am so glad that I found these lovely people shortly before they moved to the nest and that they let me tag along. It is a safe and fun place to be.

  59. Hi hooters,

    Congrats on 1st Zona!

Bona I think you wrote a wonderful blog today. It is a great place and some of us have been lucky enough to meet others.

I don't get in as much lately, but still try to keep up, and I enjoy reading what everyone has to say.

It is no surprise to me that this group has survived since the exodus over a year ago.

I had a great cyber Monday experience, got lots of Christmas shopping done! I got some great stuff at Kohls.

    Thanx for the stats Shirley!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have just spent the last half hour changing my password again. Am I the only one having difficulty signing on? My password worked until a few months ago. Then I changed it. Today I couldn't get on again. Maybe I need a magic touch.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Tinka I'm glad to see you here. I'm so sorry that you are having such trouble with your password. I don't know why that should be. Did you have some kind of update or something done to your computer before all the trouble started?

EBJ I've been missing you too. I discovered Kohl's not that long ago and I think it's my new favorite store. I usually hate to shop but I've been enjoying it there.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Good Afternoon everyone.

Zona-My-Baby - Congrats on being first.

I just wanted to say that even though I don't post as often as U used to, I still consider the nest my home away from home. After the new year I will make a better effort to post everyday, even if it's just to complain about my sore legs.

I read the blog everyday so I keep everyone in my prayers. Good one today Bonacci,

My Christmas cakes are ready to come out of the oven so I must tend to them.

Shirley - I must not let my lead at "25" and "50" slip away.

We are going to our grandson's Christmas band concert tonight so that should be fun.

    Have a great day everyone.
    Love, Tinka

  63. Thanx JL! I got something for just about everyone yesterday (even myself!) I didn't get anything for MR. E as they were out of his size in a couple things. I will have to actually go to the store or find what I want for him somewhere else.

Tina my password wouldn't work x3 and I had to go to my "cheat sheet" to make sure I was typing in the right thing. I was, it is just something wrong with this site I think.

    ReplyDelete
  64. MO today I bought a buntd pan so I can make MONKEY BREAD!!

MR. E will go to the store tomorrow and get the stuff I need to make it :)

  65. EBJ and MO They have monkey bread in the freezer at thye grocery store. You just have to microwave it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. SLIN - Thanks!! You've always been a welcome addition and a ray of sunshine. :O) Also thank you for always picking the perfect "This Owl Says"!!!

TINKA - You have been with us from the start and you are truly one classy lady!! Enjoy your grandson's concert tonight. ♥ U!!!

EBJ - I love Kohl's....especially after the holidays. Their clearance sales are THE BEST!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thank you SHIRLEY for the revised list. Even tho' I didn't really NARC (thanks LYNN) everyone out and just pretended sort of too I am glad for the points (shhh CAROL or you will have no one to clue you in next time).

J/L; Is the frozen monkey bread just with the rolls and things? I would probably guess so.

BONACHICHI; Good blog and how true. Many of us "talked" for some time on the Ross blog before even coming over here and it truly feels like long time friends with everyone. It has been fun to meet some of the owls too but I still feel like I already know everyone here.

I am just about ready to go off to the airport to pickup my husband. I called his mom today and she was crying because Louis had left and she misses him already. I think he is ready to be back in his own house and I cleaned it up and it will look like I have been working the whole time he was gone :) so don't anyone tell him any different.

SHIRLEY: I love your song. How quick you are to make up words so fast for owls and now we have our mascot song. I was wondering if you fluffed up my sheets and towels today and made me anything special...j/a

Ok..time to put the finishing touches on my house and out the door I go. Oh man...I forgot the President is on...I need to go and turn it on and then watch wrap ups later bye

  68. Waving a wing @ everyone yet to land today. You all have a special place in my heart!!!

Time for this HOoter to hunker down for the night!!

  70. CHI CHI...sweet blog. This is a very warm and fuzzy place and I am thankful in so many ways for it. I had left the Ross Blog long before most of the people here, but I kept in touch with CAROL and was so glad she told me about this when she started it. I am sad that so many people have left here, but I suppose they have their reasons. I guess what saddens me is that even tho there may have been issues between some, why leave everyone? I am naive, so I will leave it at that!!!

ZONA...how cute that Mr. Z brought you the ingredients for the monkey bread! Be careful because after just that certain amount you may find Mr. Z swinging from the chandelier!

    EBJ...fun, a new bundt pan...just for monkey bread! I think I started a pandemic!

JUST LIN...I have seen it at the gross-ry store, but have resisited!

LYNN...so right. We are different and have different beliefs, but we have agreed to disagree and show respect as we do.

GOLDIE...your words of wisdom remind us everytime we open the blog up!

I don't know how to express what the nest has meant to me. When I need a smile, I can come here and find one. When I need to vent, I can come here and let it out. When I feel a total lack of confidence I can come here and someone will express the confidence in me I didn't know I had. When I am hungry I can come here and get nourished - -with no calories! And I think everyone feels the same, there is always someone here that will offer a shoulder, an ear and hug to ease the pain.

  71. As some of you may know, I had a TERRIBLE experience at the Ant Colony and there are a few people here that supported me with such strength and devotion I will never forget that...or them. It is that caliber of friendship that formed this place.

You know who you are and what you mean to me. Thanks!

  75. Bear I think it's interesting that the other blog is now calm, no trolls. No Ro... Ro... Ro...

I can't bring myself to type his name, you know who I'm talking about! Did he finally go away?

The other person who stands out there was the one who pretended she was dying, I can't remember her name. I know everyone got drawn in by her.

MO I never went to the colony so didn't know what happened. I'm glad you survived it.

JL thanx for the tip about the monkey bread. I will make it this time, since I bought the pan for it then will check the frozen section after that!

Jodi I got lots of cute clothes for my 20 year old niece at Kohls. Now whether she thinks they are cute is another story.

I will def. check out their sales afterwards!

  76. EBJ...looks like you're back!!!! Good march!

  77. EBJ...Thanks. I wasn't really sure I would survive it. I had never been so hurt. Betrayed by people I thought were friends. I was deeply sucked into the FM scam and then the horror I experienced at the Colony...I retreated and thought I would never get involved in another blog again.

But all is good now ;)

  78. Bonachichi: Great blog! I agree, and you put it so well! I did a video song for the next once with the Plain White Tees song "1234". This was how I learned that I loved the nest. When I heard this song and thought of all the wonderful feelings and camaraderie I have found here.

I will repost the link, but this song is my love song to the nest..hehe. :)

    Plaine White Tees 1-2-3-4

Okay, I really tried to do that right, I hope it works. :)

I had the worst day today but coming here right now has made it a little bit better. Thanks everyone. I am going to go and read comments while I listen to this song again. :)

  80. MO what's FM mean?

(to me, as a hard core fan, the only FM I know is THE MAC, as in Fleetwood Mac!) hee hee

I'm sooo glad I didn't get involved at that colonly. I could barely keep up with the Ross blog and all the goings on there. I would not have joined another blog other than this.

  84. hi.....

    NEW ALERT***NEWS ALERT

We have an escaped convict who drew a gun on 2 guards as he was being transported by van from Huntsville to Beaumont. He took all their weapons and one of their uniforms and left them handcuffed in the back of the van. He was serving a life sentence for child molestation.
Basically he likes to stab people and rape children.
His name is Arcade Joseph Comeaux Jr. if you wanna read about it.

I thought he would be caught by now but the reward for info just keeps going up....

Kinda scary....police are protecting his former victims until he is found or caught.....

This is a bad bad man.

    He's ugly too.....

My friends son that I visit in Huntsville called earlier to tell me about an "in-house" rumor that he is in this area.....

There is a light on at my guest house and I don't know why....not going to see either.....lol

  98. Dianne - I stayed logged in for almost 2 years. I never bothered to log out. Suddenly the computer logged me out as soon as I shut down for the night. Then I would have to log in each morning. A couple of months ago it started to refuse to accept my password and I have had trouble with it every since. I have no idea why.

I have to brag tonight. I was so proud of my grandson who was just a baby such a short time ago. Now he is 13 and almost six feet tall, standing up there looking so handsome wearing his black shirt and playing the tenor sax so masterfully. Where has the last ten years gone?

I am off to bed to rest these weary legs. Good night and God bless. Love, Tinka

  100. I've just gotten home from answering a "quick" question (at 4:00). I wanted to thank all the owls for their kind words. Nite.

  101. Oh, I am SO HAPPY to know the blog was out of whack today!! I thought I was losing my flippin' MIND!! Nobody else said anything, so I was sure I was just seeing things.

I am not as senile as I think I am!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hey, what's that book or movie.. Arguing With Myself?? Since everyone's asleep, I could do that and maybe win a time or two.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Maybe I'm a bitch, skeptic, or whatever, and I'm okay with that, but I tend to keep at bay when I hear about these people who seemingly come out of nowhere, and poof, they are on their death bed. It wasn't just FM that pulled the dying card. Sadly, there were others. I'm not active in either of the other blogs where I "met" so many of you great people.

Sure, we got our nuts (raises a guilty hand) but the main thing we have is a comfy nest full of real owls who are kind and loving. Birds of a feather we are.

Less than 3 days until Jodi comes for a visit!!! I can't wait!!
