I have a menu. I don’t like to go to restaurants, but there’s one at the local mega-mall that has really good marinara sauce, which I like to dip bread in; a habit I picked up in Italy. I was there recently and nicked one of their paper menus whilst picking up the sauce. It’s called Sisley, which sounds to me like a cheap Americanization of Sicilia, or Sicily.
My eating habits are probably strange. Carl’s Jr. has a good BBQ chicken sandwich which isn’t terrible for you. It costs almost $5, but I cut it in half and get two meals out of it.. Even better is the Subway foot-long sandwich. I can make 4 meals out of that and it also costs $5.00. $1.25 for a meal is a good deal to me. We are tossing caution to the wind though, and are going to order a complete Italian meal off this menu.
First is Antipasti. There is Mozzarella-Marinara for $9.25 and Shrimp Scampette for $13.95. I like both these items, but I try to eat healthy, so I’d order the Grilled Vegetables for $9.95. This would normally be more than enough for me. But I’ll go on because Sisley says I should.
Next you have Insalata. I’ll have the Insalata Primi with romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes and peas. It’s also the cheapest salad offered at $6.50. It might cost me an extra $1 to get them to throw some spinach in because it’s good for me.
Now, the Pasta . I like Alfredo, but it’s terrible health-wise, so I don’t eat it. Instead, I’d get the Chicken Penne, which comes with spinach and a white wine/olive oil sauce. It looks light and healthy, adds some protein and costs me $15.45.
By this time, I’d have to fart so bad, I’d be dancing in my chair.
Finally, we arrive at Secondi, or the main entrée. Italians love their meat. Prime Ribeye is offered for $28.95, but I don’t eat red meat. I want to avoid over-carbing, so I look for something without breading or pasta. Grilled Country Herb Chicken for $16.55 looks just fine. It’s marinated in white wine, fruit juices, herbs and spices. Broccoli is thrown in as an added extra for the monster fart that is now inevitable, whether I consent or not. Broccoli farts are almost as bad as Frito farts.
No meal is complete without an espresso and dessert. Sisley doesn’t list their desserts. They just point out that I should have one. Okay. I’ll blow like Krakatau anyway, so I might as well. I have no idea how much one of these desserts costs, so let’s be generous and say espresso and dessert costs $10.00.
I have just eaten a meal that cost me $58.45. Sales tax is 9.25%, add what, 20% for a tip? This meal that I didn’t want has cost me $76.63. That’s insane!! Who does this? That $76.63 would buy me just over 14 Subway sandwiches. At 4 meals per sandwich, 2 meals per day, I could survive happily for 28 days on what that one meal cost.
Do you all eat like this (Carol)? When you do go out, what do you normally order and what do you expect to pay? Sometimes a Chicken sandwich from the Counter Burger at $8.50 a pop is a treat. Special occasions demand halibut from the marina fish market for $15.00. It’s worth every penny. So. Let’s all virtually order our favorite meals today. No shame, no judgments. There’s a money tree in your wallet and you won’t gain an ounce. Cholesterol evaporates and diabetes doesn’t exist. What’ll it be?

ReplyDeletelol....i'm using Janice's computer~ GOOD MORNING, JANICE~ :)~
ReplyDeleteBonachichi~ I think I answered this yestiddy!~ :D
ReplyDeletelol chichi~ I have to tell you...hubby made dinner the other night....it was so bland.....he never makes bland anything....but by God it was cheap! He told us all how much it cost to feed the 5 of us.....and how we could never get "this much food eating out for the price!" Uh...buddy....did you notice that everyone filled up on bread?!!!~ lol~
ReplyDeleteI'm so damn pretty~
ReplyDeleteTina, you are pretty. But you cheated. Janice gets the pretty point today.
ReplyDeleteI treat food more like fuel for my body. I'm not going to fill up for $100 when I can do it for $5. Fine dining is wasted on me, for the most part.
I really want to know... what's "normal" for a person to have when dining out, and does it really cost that much?
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteTina got first big surprise! Do you shove Janice out of her chair on the race to first? Janice are you Okay???? You know Tina Beauty is only skin deep. :)
Bon I don't really know what fine dining is. Every once in awhile we splurge but really wasted on me as I can never eat enough to get my money's worth.
I am a diner and dives kind of gal. There are some really good ones out there. One of my favorite meals is teryaki ribs, rice and steamed veggies. Local place has the best Japanese teryaki I have ever eaten and the Whole meal is ll.99.
We are going to hit the local casino this week for their buffet. Everyone in town raves about it so what the heck. Again 11.99, their special is seafood. Crab legs, Lobster etc... so we will see.
I rarely order dessert unless it is the thing I am craving and then I would just order it and coffee and be done.
I do need to figure out how to count calories like you do but I figure if I am at a restaurant I order what I want because it is not a regular thing with us. Might as well have what I want and enjoy it.
Friends took me to a fancy place in Tacoma Wa once. The worst scallops I had ever had and they were 24.00 bucks! 3 bay scallops arranged on a plate with some arugala does not a meal make in my book! I was afraid to order a drink, I figured they would hand me a loan application and want me to take out a second mortgage to pay for the tequila.
Good Morning Hooters,
ReplyDeleteWEll,if Diabetes doesn't exist today-then I want everyday to be today!!
congrats on 1st tina- hi lynn and bona
Will be back in awhile to order my meal. I have to think about it now that I have no restrictions!
Good morning, Janice!
ReplyDeleteBon, I'm terrible on these dimensions! I eat out several times a week, and don't pay much attention to the money I could save if I ate at home, or at a fast food restaurant. Jim does more than enough of that for both of us! LOL!
I typically get just an entree and a soft drink, for a total price of around 20 dollars.
Tina: You're gorgeous, dahling!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! I just talked to a woman with the last name of Porn! Carol....I totally thought of you! lol~
ReplyDeletebear~ ur a dear~
ReplyDeleteBon and Lynn~ You both made Janice laugh~
Good Morning Not a Diabetic Goldie~
lol@tina~ in my dreams...
ReplyDeleteOk, I am a fan of pasta, chicken and fish. Not so much red meat. I am going to order a caesar salad, a bowl of whatever creamy soup you have, chicken parmiagana~ with extra sauce. Dessert is going to be creme brule. Now, if in fact you lied to me about not being diabetic today- I am in serious trouble, but otherwise- I am in frigging pig shit heaven!!
Whab & LynnD, you understand exactly what this is about. $76 to have a meal that is frankly, ridiculous, AT A MALL, seems completely insane to me. But I don't eat out much, so I thought maybe it isn't. What do I know?
ReplyDeleteI can see eating that way on special occasions... but again, at a mall?
For the record... I don't count calories. Since I have that money tree, I hired the Air Force fly me to Hawaii for banana macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup. If I lived there, I'd have them every day. Now I'm back and will start thinking about lunch.
Goldie, are you out of your mind? There's no such thing as diabetes! Never heard of it. Not today, not here.
ReplyDeletethank you bona~ good to know! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone....
ReplyDeleteMy favorite meal is so great! On special occasions...like days of the week with the letter Y in them....
Belle and I go to the drive-thru window at Weinerschnitzel!!!
Belle just gets a plain weenie but I get 3 chili cheese dogs with a slice of pickle....sometimes I drop one hotdog and get a polish with Kraut!!! And sometimes I make it home to the bathroom and sometimes I don't....
Its under $10 and thats not even half the fun....you see the owner is usually there and he has one of those big boil things on the back of his neck the size of a golfball and about a third of the top is yellow.....and the heat coming from that thing!! It is so red and it always looks as though the slightest pressure could send pus and gunk flying across the room in great quantity....you know like on that "popazit.com" website?
God I would LOVE to have one of those things....but until I do...if I ever do....I can have a chili cheese dog and admire (covet) his.....sigh....good times....
And its a good lesson in "NO DEEDEE" because I can't very well reach up and pop his.....can I?
DeeDee, let me come with you to Weinerschnitzel. I'll help you with that bathroom problem by ordering the biggest brat they have and shove it up your arse.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't blow like a champagne cork, we can stop at the local zoo and you can run a few laps in the lion cage. Don't worry, with that brat hanging out your arse, you'll do just fine.
Assuming you survive, we can find new and exciting combinations from your pill collection and hopefully come up with something hallucinogenic. I will give you a bowl of ice cream and suggest that you are melting.
I will put the Oompa Loompa video from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on a loop to gently lull you to sleep and peaceful dreams.
It will be a fine day, and one I'm sure we will both remember fondly.
DeeDee~ you made me laugh and you made Janice puke~ :D I think you forgot, tho......you did have one of those.....on ur ass....remember, you tried to pop it in the shower and slipped and fell? :)~
ReplyDeleteDeeDee fell in the shower? Did she fall on her head? That would explain a lot.
ReplyDeleteTina, if we were either cowards or smart, we would delete our comments because we both know it's not going to end well for us. I think we are about to prove we are brave and stupid.
ReplyDeleteFOOD...yummmm!
ReplyDeleteSince calories, fat, sugars, cholesterol and money are of no issue...
Ceasar Salad with extra dressing
Garlic Rolls by the basket
Pasta Carbonnara
Asparagus
Diet Pepsi
Tiramisu
Cappuccino
Rolaids
or
Mixed Greens Salad with creamy dressing
Rib Eye steak
Baked Potato w/ sour cream AND butter
Green bean almondine
Warm bread and LOTS of butter
Diet Pepsi
Warm Peach pie w/ french Van ice cream
Cappuccino
Mixed Greens salad
In reality, I dont eat out too much, but my favorite splurge is a breakfast buffet.
Sometimes I go to the chinese restaurant and get a combo for 6.50 and have it for a couple of meals.
Or an awesome grilled chicken sandwich from the gas station for 2.99!
JANICE...you look stunning today. TINA may be pretty, but you are stunning!
DEE DEE...OMG. That is all I can say!!!!
CHI CHI...fun blog! What mall is Sisily at? Have you been to Maggiano's? I loved Carl's. Wish we had them here.
When I was in Italy, I spent some time with a family up in the Abruzzi mountains. They were farmers and shepherds. All their food was homemade (except bread and most pasta!)and the meals were TO DIE FOR!
ReplyDeleteOn my first night there we had the usual 3 hour dinner.
Tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and oil
Bread
Homemade Ravioli stuffed with their own homemade ricotta cheese.
Fried beans
Homemade prosciutto, salami and sausage
Cheese tray
Fruit tray
Cookies
Homemade wine
Espresso
The next day for lunch included roasted lamb, from a freshly slaughtered lamb! And they slathered mayonnaise on it!!!
Mo, if you eat enough asparagus, your pee will turn green. I do it for St. Paddy's Day.
ReplyDeleteThe Sisley I went to is at the Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, CA. The menu also lists them at (I think, from the addresses) the Santa Monica Place Mall, the Sherman Oaks Galleria and somewhere in Valencia.
I used the menu because I know traditional Italian dining is an event. I also mentioned Carol in the blog because she's Italian and enjoys family dinners occasionally.
Zia, the little lady who takes care of my house in Vigo, cooks like that. She never tells me how anything is prepared, so I have to spy on her. She almost killed me with some homemade limoncello that I thought was water with lemon.
I am glad you were able to dine with some non-murderous Italians.
BONACHI: Let's see..anything..ok..pasta with Alfredo sauce..fillet mignon smothered in mushrooms and grilled onions..baked potato with butter, sour cream and bacon..scallops..coconut shrimp..chef salad, without the eggs..and for dessert..lava cake with a side of red velvet cake..yummy..
ReplyDeleteTINA: Congrats on FIRST!
LYNN: Three scallops? Only three? I hate those micro meals..I don't understand them at all..I sometimes think they're more for looking at than eating..
GOLDIE: I'll go with you to get the creamy soup..especially if it's mushroom or potato..love it!
DEEDEE: We have Wienerschnitzel here..but I've never gone..might have to try it on your recommendation..I'll let you know if the owner has any boils..it might be a job requirement..you never know.. ;)
MO: LOL @ Rolaids!
Back to reality..I'm making grilled cheese and tomato soup tonight..by request.. :)
DIANNE: Martha's in the kitchen again!! :D
Bonachichi....
ReplyDeleteThat day you have thought out sounds interesting but I think it would be better for me just to have some of mah boys take you in for a week or two for a little attitude adjustment....and just maybe some gender reassignment....your choice.....man or woman!
DeeDee, when you open a door, some of us can't resist stepping in. I got started with the Weiner Dome, and it just went from there.
ReplyDeleteI got a pic a couple days ago of your mouse. Did anyone warn you? Like I said, I've had a couple days, but I figured someone would e-mail you or something.
TeamJanice Congrats on being first today! You are twice as lovely as usual. ;)
ReplyDeleteBonach Your suggested activities for DeeDee was hilarious! LMAO!
DeeDee Your response to Bonach almost had me peeing my pants! ROFLMAO!
Bonach2 Your blog has made me very, very hungry. I am a red meat eater and that's what I am thinking of now. My first choice would be to go to The House of Prime Rib for a wonderful prime rib dinner. It's a bit pricey but I don't remember the exact prices and they don't show them on their website. It is a restaurant in the old San Francisco style. My second choice would be Izzy's Steaks and Chops, also old-style San Francsico but located in a town a little south of there. I think I would start with the prawn cocktail, since I already eat plenty of salads. That would be $8.95. Being the S.F. Bay Area, there would be delicious sourdough french bread on the table and butter. My entree would be prime rib, medium rare, for $24.95. It comes with your choice of two sides and mine would be the delicious creamed spinach and the house potatoes. I love a baked potato but their house potatoes are a very rich, cheesy scalloped potatoes and it is fantastic! There would also be au jus and house made horseradish sauce accompanying the prime rib. Oh, yes, I think I would add an order of sauteed mushrooms for $6.95. For dessert, I'd have the Chocolate Mousse Cake and coffee about another $11.00. Add tax to that and it's about $52. Add another $10.00 for tip and that makes it $62.00. It's a very nice restaurant and you could wear jeans and a nice top and be okay. Office casual would probably be better. The House of Prime Rib would probably cost a little more. Neither of these are in a mall.
DeeDee I really like the hot dogs with sauerkraut at der Weinerschnitzel. Do you have any Stater Bros. markets there? You can use their brand mild chili (no beans) and make your own chili cheese dogs that taste just like der Weinerschnitzel's. I don't have either in my area.
ReplyDeleteJust_Lin; I've only been to SanFran a couple times. The most memorable was a stay at the St. Francis Hotel... Is that still open? I had a day to myself, so I walked (I know) to Fisherman's Warf and had clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl.
ReplyDeleteThat night, we had dinner at the hotel, but I don't remember anything about the food. Tony Bennett got up on a stage and sang some songs for us.
The next night, we took a cable car to some chinese restaurant in China Town but again, I remember only the cable car, not the food.
It sounds like you love your prime rib and I hope you let yourself enjoy it for real once in a while.
About Weinerschnitzel... I learned about a new-ish food product that's used in (among other things) many fast-food hot dogs. It's known as MRM and it means Mechanically Recovered Meat. It is the most unappetizing process I have ever seen and my brief stint with chicken corn dogs ended after learning about it.
ReplyDeletedoesn't the FDA permit up to 6 rat hairs in a hot dog?~
ReplyDeleteBuy Hebrew National hot dogs...they answer to a higher authority
ReplyDeleteTina, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that you and your rat hairs are the reason I learned about MRM.
ReplyDeleteWhat did your husband make that was so bland?
omg Month!!! I LOVE Hebrew National....and I can't get it here...have to get it in CA! All we have here is Mormon National....and you know what they put in that!!!!~
ReplyDeleteBonachichi~ He made pasta...which I love....but ugh....tasted like nothing!
I love cheese ravioli with marinara sauce, and crisp green salad with ranch dressing....homemade...not that bottled crap....and Lemon Creme Cake or this chocolate wafer and whipped cream dessert that I make...omg! I'm so hungry!!!~
This is a vent and OT but I am seriously sad depressed and pissed!
ReplyDeleteI Have been watching the news coming out of Haiti and it is devastating and I am amazed at how many Americans are trapped there and many injured. The death toll keeps rising.
Then I see the report about Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh and I will say I hope these two men go to hell. One claims to be a minister spreading Gods word and a christian. He is doing nothing more than spitting on the graves of those who have died horrible deaths. The other is trying to turn this into a political partisan event accusing our President of responding to the blacks of Haiti faster than the he did with the bomber on the Airplane.
I am sick of this shit!!! Should our President ignore the suffering when we can help? Should he ignore the Americans who are trapped and injured there? WTF??
These men are bottom feeding scum suckers and I am ashamed they call themselves Americans.
Bono: Great Blog. I had mine tonight Pad Thai with extra bean sprouts and snow peas. YUM! from ...Yangkee Noodle. so good..prolly so bad but I only have it every so often.
ReplyDelete2. Cheddars: Veggie plate: Salad with oil & vinegar, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots and broccoli casserole.
3. Subway: Veggie foot long with Pepper jack cheese, lots of green pepper, lettuce, tomato, black olives and cucumber. Usually toasted in winter, not toasted in summer on the 9 grain whole wheat bread. If I am being bad, occasionally I will get the bread with the cheese on it.
4. Numerous fast food locations: Grilled Chicken, no sauce, take top of bun off and toss it. If I am bad, leave bun on.
I could go on but I am afraid I am boring you..haha. :)
I do love that PAD THAI...YUMMFREAKINEE
Bad blog to read at 11pm when you are hungry thoug.haha. Good night all..take care..its 11:11 make a wish.
ReplyDeleteoh pooh. it turned to 11:12..make one anyway. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers go to the people of Haiti. It is so terrible and to think that it was the worst in recorded history there. It could happen anywhere, anytime. :(
ReplyDeleteLynnD; I saw on the news that our rescue personnel were waiting for word on whether there was any place to land. My initial thought was, "don't we have a single aircraft carrier in the area? Can't we send one?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Limbaugh would be trying to make this a partisan issue; he's probably trying to make it a race issue. Also, the fact that there's any conflict at all will be magnified by the media (do you all realize that I detest the media by now?) so that you will tune in to see how god-awfully dire the situation is.
Obama I'm sure, remembers Katrina and the criticism over that. I don't care for the man, but I think he will play this properly.
As far as being ashamed to be American? Of course. The world hates us, but they love our money.
I believe in my heart that people like you are actively working right now to get to Haiti and lend a hand. Until they do arrive and send some graphic footage for the media (stab), the story will have to be the fact that we're NOT there.
Bonach I do love the taste and texture of foods which is probably why I am counting calories and you have an athletic build. I do love prime rib and do indulge once in a while. That's what we had for our Christmas dinner. As for hot dogs, I have no reason to buy them but if I did, it would be Hebrew National. I did indulge in a couple of der Weinerschnitzel hot dogs when I was in SoCal year before last. They were very tasty. It is best if I not know the particulars about any meat, especially hot dogs.
ReplyDeleteWhat has happened in Haiti is horrible. Hopefully, help will get there soon.
ReplyDeleteBonach Did you ask about an aircraft carrier as a solution to giving planes a place to land? I don't believe just any old kind of airplane can land on an aircraft carrier. They have to be a particular type of plane that can be caught on that giant sling shot type thing, otherwise they go off the end of the ship and into the ocean.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteLynnD Robertson and Limbaugh are asses 365 days a year, imho.
ReplyDeleteThat was my delete.
We've cancelled our flights until Saturday for now.....nowhere to land~
ReplyDeleteJust_Lin; It does take a special aircraft to land on an aircraft carrier. Yes, there is a catapult that is used to launch these aircraft, but it's a tailhook that's needed to land them, as it actually hooks onto a heavy-duty cable and kind of stops the plane short.
ReplyDeleteThe carriers are built for just this sort of thing and the tailhook aircraft have cargo capacity. I did sneak a peek and learned that a carrier is indeed, on its way now.
I read on FB that DONNA's son, who is in the Navy is on his way to Haiti. Or will be in the morning.
ReplyDeleteLYNN...it is unconscionable what the dynamic duo have said. They are a disgrace to all.
Hi...Well,in regards to todays blog...I'm going to dinner with JUSTLIN OR ZONA!! I am especially hungry after having dental work done yesterday and not being able to eat much. Everyone's meals sound so good except not your's BEBBI. You are still being very "good" on your meal.
ReplyDeleteWatching all the sadness from Haiti, it is very horrible. My prayers are with everyone...sending them to Haiti people and I think they do certainly need donations for not only money but for food and clothing as well. The news tonight is telling on how to be sure any money or other donations are going to Haiti directly.
JANICE; You are doing so great getting first so often now. Does TINA have you tied up so she can use your computer first thing OR is she paying you just to sign in and "PRETEND" to be her? Hmmmm
My tooth is still very uncomfortable and I guess I will taKe a few more meds and go back to sleep. I slept for 12 hours last night/today and it did feel pretty good.
Hi to all of you.

ReplyDeleteTina, you are so very pretty, I think the prettiest of the day!

ReplyDeleteI love food, I love going out to eat, I love staying home to eat, I love eating on the run, I love eating while I am typing.
I draw the line while in bed and on the toilet, However Tina seems to like the toilet so she might love to eat there.. Just think easy access, eat and shit all in one seating..
When I do go out I very seldom look at pricing, I usual order what I want no matter the cost. When I do go to a restaurant I usually know in advance if it has higher priced meals.
When we all got out to dinner, Ma, Pa, Italian Stallions etc, we usually order, many apperteasers, dinner and dessert, the norm would be $50.00 to $60.00 a person, that usually includes the tip...
We mostly go to Italian Restaurants
A typical meal..
Apperteasers
Fried Calamari
Mozzarella and Carozza
Clams Orregento
Mussels Maranara
Cold Antipasto

Dianne I'm sorry you are still hurting from that root canal.
Such a mix of interesting comments today! After J/L and others', I'm like Carol... my mouth is totally watering for some Prime Rib! But 'weenie, your authentic Italian meal sounded absolutely fabulous, too!
ReplyDeleteDeeDee, no wonder you reached out to Helen Lawson. Are you sure you two aren't the same person? LOL!
Lynn D: I couldn't agree more. Don't forget Pat Robertson was the one to claimed that we gays helped cause 9/11. And Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot.
If only people wouldn't listen to his show, and wouldn't watch PTL. Sigh. Instead, both outlets have millions of followers.
Robertson's comments today remind me strongly of the testimony going on in the Prop 8 case, which I'm following avidly. Although the trial is only three days in, subject matter experts are making a very clear case that Prop 8 has no rational basis; rather, it is based entirely on (twisted) religious beliefs and proclamations that God only sanctions marriage between a man and a women, God is angry at America for its "acceptance" of homosexuality, etc.
Courtesy of Freddie Phelps and his band of merry men, I already knew that God Hates Fags. Courtesy of Robertson, I found out today that He hates Haitians, too.
Bear I believe we were warned about "false prophets".
ReplyDelete67
ReplyDelete68
ReplyDelete69
ReplyDeleteWhab, I think you are getting closer to victory with respect to Prop 8. Liberals and mainstreamers alike are thinking, "What's the big deal?" The conservatives should be hit with the separation of church and state requirement, although the Scouts of America have been able to f**k around with that for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI think the gay marriage supporters have handled themselves wonderfully; rationally and without hate whilst the opponents have no viable argument other than, "We don't like it, gays creep us out."
How was it, Just_Lin? Congrats on 69!
ReplyDeleteBonach Not as good as prime rib. LOL
ReplyDeleteJ/L: Amen!
ReplyDeleteBon: I hope you are right! I'm pretty optimistic that Vaughn Walker will rule in our favor, and the US Ninth Circuit on the inevitable appeal, but once the case reaches the Supreme Court, we'll have the likes of Scalia and Roberts and Thomas to contend with. Lord help us!
