By Tina-in~ut
My husband is having a telethon this evening to benefit the people devastated by the earthquakes in Haiti. No, not my principal hubby, my other one.....George! I heard about it earlier in the week. George Clooney got on the phone with the people at MTV and together they decided to do the telethon. It will be broadcast on all the MTV stations, all the major networks, and several other stations.
I also heard that Sandra Bullock had donated 1 million dollars to help those in Haiti. I was happy to see these high profile people doing something hugh to help and thought that this would encourage others to give big. Leo DiCaprio donated 1 million dollars yesterday. I excitedly told my real hubby about it and surprisingly, he was disgusted. He thinks that with all the money these stars have, they should be giving way more and the telethon is a joke. They shouldn't be asking people who live paycheck to paycheck to give big. I was stunned.
Then I read some of the comments from online articles about the telethon and most agreed with my hubby. My favorite though was from a girl who was concerned that the season finale of her favorite show would not air!!! So how do you feel about this whole situation? I now have mixed emotions!
First!!!!
ReplyDeleteHA!
How fun...
:O)
Well almost BAM!!
ReplyDeletegood for you Carol.....good mmorning!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! Stop the press!! Tina didn't get 1st on her own blog!! Is the world coming to an end? What's going on?? I need to sit down!!
ReplyDeleteI was first...and I even made QOTD.. thanks J/L
ReplyDeleteI can't watch the telethon tonite cause we are having a surprise party 2nite for Italian Stallion #1for his 30th d'day, Ok ready for this 100 ppl have responded yes.. Yikes! We have been going crazy with all the planning.. I just don't know what day it is.. everything is so overwhelming.. but def in a good way..
My business partner is in the hospital, he is having the same surgery Goldie had.. so to top it off, I am working alone, except for my outside sales.. UPDATE as I was typing this, my business partner called, everything went well, they are sending him home today he does not have to stay overnite, Good News..
Area.. 51 Whabby.. LOL :O)
Good morning Carol and congrats on 1st!
ReplyDeleteGood morning BAMDeeDee!!
I am kind of on the fence about telethons. It does inform the people about the situation (if they tune in) but I am always a little nervous not knowing if my money is really going where it is suppose to go. Hubby does have a good point.
Hey Dee.. still cracking up over your wedding.. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Shirley..
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow your super soaker for tonite.. cause it ain't a party without Shirley's super soaker..
:O)
Shirley..
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way, ya never know where the money is actually going..
Personally I would rather donate to help Katrina Victims, I see all the time that ppl are still struggling and still need housing.
ReplyDeleteHow fast ppl forget????
Sure Carol! I'll send you the combination to my safe where I have them all stored. While you are in there you may as well grab a handful of water balloons too. Enjoy your party!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your business partner. Hope he recovers quickly.
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCarol got first good for you!!! Sounds like you are in for a busy day again! Glad you partner is doing well and gets to go home!
Tina funny the last couple of days I have also had mixed emotions about Haiti but maybe for a different reason.
I sent money to help because I think we do need to take care of each other in a crisis, but at then it hit me, we are in crisis in our own country. So many of our own citizens are dieing every year from lack of health care in this country that we have our own Haiti situation and don't get me started on the schools. Death is death but it seems to me it is shameful and much more dire when it can and could be prevented, and not caused by a natural disaster but by willful selfishness. If we stopped one minute and asked ourselves why is it so hard to help our own and seems so much easier to help the suffering outside of our boarders?
I just don't understand and I guess I never will.
Thanks Shirley..
ReplyDeleteI will use them loving and think of you!
:O)
Well crap read that sorry about the typos. Mr. Lynn D is home today and kept quacking in my ear. Getting to old to sort out two converstions at once and type.
ReplyDeleteOh lord Shirley is unleashing the supersoakers! Happy Birthday to the Italian Stallion. Hmmm Super Soakers or Tassels. Bet he prefers we send the soakers! LOL
Lynn..
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, so much going on here.. Katrina was as devasting as Haiti, the difference yes is American has money, but you would have not know it the day Katrina happened..
So no, I will not be donating to Haiti, I will give to my local food bank instead..
Hope everyone has a great day..
ReplyDelete:O)
Dee.. Area 51..
ReplyDeletePlease say its cause she has broom.. ;O)
JodiHo! saw you in area 51.. so Howdy!
ReplyDeleteJennifer... Area 51, you send the blog to me any all time.. As always thank you!
ReplyDeleteTina..
ReplyDeleteI think I have the squiqqly in the wrong place in your name on the blog, can you fix it?
Carol I get that. I gave for Katrina and still feel helpless. Like I should be doing more. What about a telethon for the millions now unemployed and can't afford to see a doctor or to feed our people or to help our own homeless...I could go on and on.
ReplyDeleteSorry folks I have had a month of meeting our local legislators being glad handed and given my 15 min trying to keep continued support and money to support the building the food bank is housed in going. So I have been just a little bit irritated with things lately. A real learning experience. Still trying to sort it out. More appt. with these people in the next few weeks.
Ummm I heard a rumor that a house fell on Tina once, so I would bet she has a broom.
ReplyDeleteGood morning to Carol, DeeDee & Shirley!
ReplyDeleteOh, Tina! What a can of worms you're opening with this blog. I am not going to worry about being PC here.
First, these celebs should shut up and pony up the funds if they want to help. Haiti has become a trendy status symbol, and every celeb wants their own pet Haitian.
Second, there are peddlers/beggars in front of all our supermarkets. They claim to be associated with one charity or another for Haiti. I counted 6 calls for money in less than an hours' time on the telly. Then it hit me... THEY'RE ALL BLACK!! All the beggars are black! On the telly, at the market; everywhere!
Some sick marketing ploy is dangling fake pet Haitians in front of the common people so we too, can be like the stars, with our own fake pet Haitians.
Sorry, folks. Help is needed here at home and I don't care about owning a Haitian, fake or otherwise. If it's just bags of money these people want, they can get it somewhere other than my pocket.
Ok I guess I will be the one to go there. Bon I really don't see what being black has to do with anything. Scam artists come in every color shape and size. I am not surprised that alot of people raising money for Haiti are black as Hatians are black and from what I have been reading we have a large Haitian community in the US.
ReplyDeleteI get umpteenzillion telemarketer calls at my home every week. Many I am sure are trying to scam me. I screen my calls. I don't waste a moment on trying to figure out the skin color of these individuals. Crooks are crooks. Bernie Madoff anyone!
Bank of America, AIG, Chase, etc... all run by white men. Crooks everyone of them. So I guess to me your theory or point is lost.
As far as groups begging at stores every color. Even in the small area I live in and it is not the most diverse in the country. I just inform them that I give to my local charities and move on.
PS I am and have been one of those beggars at the grocery stores raising money and food for our local food bank.
I am not mad at you but in a way just wearily sad that it has to come down to pointing fingers at skin color.
LynnD; I respect your opinion but I think you misunderstood where I was trying to go. It's not about skin color - not for me. The "beggars", which is probably not a good word to use, are not Haitians. At least the three I asked weren't. The "charities" went looking for black people, not me. They are being used by the charities to get money. Because of their skin color.
ReplyDeleteThere was a recent earthquake where, in Indonesia? Is it right to just hand pick people who look somewhat Asian to ask for money? We are supposed to believe these people have some connection when in fact, they don't. Picking a person to ask for donations BECAUSE they have "the look" is wrong, in my opinion. I know what happened in Haiti. I don't need someone pretending to be of Haitian descent when they are in fact, not. This attempt at tom-foolery is what puts me off. I don't care what the people look like. They're people.
I would have the same problem if a disaster occurred in Australia; Don't parade fake caucasian Australians in front of me. My intelligence is somewhat higher than that of a grapefruit and I can listen to rational arguments regarding the necessity of funds for any area of the world.
Let's get more general, yet closer to home. Is it right to get someone to pretend they're gay in order to get support for equal rights for gays? I think it's hypocritical.
Before I get bombarded with accusations of being racist, let me play my race card here and now. I am legally a Native American. I enjoy full benefit of that status via an Indian Card. A document issued by the BIA, or Bureau of Indian Affairs. I am proud of that heritage, but do not feel entitled by it. If someone asked me to speak for the Native American nation because I was going to be their requisite indian, I'd slap them silly. I'm not a requisite anything other than a human being.
LynnD, I know that you've got a kind heart and compassionate mind. To me, you are an angel. I just respectfully ask that European Americans (a group to which I also belong) allow me the opinion I have the right to express as a proud American, or get off my damn land.
I guess I get where you are coming from, but could some of those people be doing this because they are helping?
ReplyDeleteYes there are always others who will take advantage and exploit others. Again wearily saddend by that.
LynnD, I didn't address my use of "beggar". There is a big difference between people supporting a worthy cause and people parading "one of them" around to get sympathy or compulsive donations. If you were to tell me you rented a blind kid for the day to get donations, I'd call you "beggar" as well. I know you would not, so to me you are a wonderful and amazing woman who can and will save the world, one meal at a time.
ReplyDeleteOk going to change the subject here but I am in deperate need! I freaking need three neighbors in Farmville yes I am desperate!!
ReplyDeleteI need that 24 by 24 plot I have been anticipating this damn expansion and farmville has outwitted me! I have saved every coin! I have planted and plowed until my mouse finger is bloody! Dimmmmmmmit!!!
Yes I am addicted but not addicted enought to pay for the damn farm dollars! Face it if I get that desperate I would likely end up working the streets. Seeing as I am a little long in the tooth I don't even want to imagine what or with whom I would have to solicit to get a bigger freaking farm.
I am however not too proud to solicit my friends in this matter. Did I say I was desperate? Help please, Mr. Lynn D is threatening to turn me into Dr. Phil so he can ridicule me in front of millions of Americans and people from around the world.
You must stop him now! help help help help..........
LynnD LMAO! If I was into Farmville, I would be your neighbor, honest.
ReplyDeleteLynnD, you are too funny! Are all your Nest friends also neighbors in FV? How many more neighbors do you need? I admin a few accounts and have no problem becomming one of your "requisite" neighbors. Look for friend requests with that stupid Bikini Girl avatar.
ReplyDeleteTina Thank you for today's blog. I am, literally, quite stunned and almost speechless.
ReplyDeleteThis is my thinking.....I am so fortunate. I have a roof over my head, food in the kitchen. I have family and friends that would pick me up if I needed it. There is an infrastructure around me so if I called 911 in an emergency, someone would come to help me. I would never, ever, in a million years, not try to help someone in need just because there are others also in need. If I did that, I'd never give to anyone or anything because there will always be plenty of worthy causes. Just because I give to Haiti does not preclude me from giving to others, and I do. There are plenty of legitimate ways to give. Doctors Without Borders, for one. I have given $100 as that is what I can give easily enough. And I have to ask myself if that is enough. If it is easy for me then it probably isn't enough, is it, and I should not pat myself on the back for it.
LynnD You have a good point in that I, too, need to give more to the local food banks. That does not mean I cannot give to others, too, just that I should be more consistant with my donations right here at home.
Happy Friday Owls.
ReplyDeleteCarol, landing first on Tina's blog. Good for you!
Tina, I also have mixed emotions about this telethon. On a selfish note, I was happy that I would get to see my boyfriend George on TV again.
I saw an interview with Sandra Bullock and she said she gave $1M because she can and others should give what they could afford. I gave what I thought I could afford, but like J/L said, if it was that easy maybe it wasn't enough.
I'm glad that our government is sending aid to Haiti and other countries in crisis, however as Lynn said we have a huge need right here that is all but ignored. And how do we know that all these people collecting money at the mall, etc. are legit? I don't give to those people. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
I do believe charity begins at home and I contribute to many local organizations and work in our food bank, plus I devote most of December every year to Christmas Promise who provides gifts to local families. I guess when I think about it though, I can always do more.
Seems I stepped up on a soapbox, so I'll get down now. Have a good day everyone.
Hey look Tina is in the news...this is the headline I found on Yahoo
ReplyDelete"Utah millionaire mounts own Haiti aid operation"
Who knew Tina was a millionaire?!!
TINA: I'm so confused about how to give to those in need. I see reports on line about how the money given in other disasters was used..and get so upset when I read that 100% wasn't given to the victims. After 9/11 the Red Cross was accused of using some of the donated money to buy computers and update their offices..that really bothered me. I understand that there are administrative costs..but it seems to me that less and less of the money donated actually gets to where it's supposed to go. I don't know what the answer is..but I do know that I hate being so cynical about it.
ReplyDeleteCAROL: Congrats on FIRST!
I'm glad that your business partner's surgery was a success! Have fun at the party tonight..Happy Birthday to Italian Stallion number one!
LYNN: There really are so many in need..and many with so much..you would think we could find a balance somehow.
Waving a soggy, windblown wing at J/LIN, SACBARB, DEEDEE, SHIRLEY and BONACHI!
Re: Doctors Without Borders....1% goes to administrative costs.
ReplyDeleteCarol....
ReplyDeleteTina does have a broom that she flies on.....I have encouraged her to get one of those with the dust pan attached.....for a little more flap and rudder action....but you know Tina....she will pinch a nickel til 6 pennies pop out......
Her internet went out this morning...I guess she doesn't have it back.....
Lynn.....I need neighbors to expand as well....
ReplyDeleteJ/L....hi honey sweetness prettiest lady and sweetest too...all you have to do is set up a little farm (2 minutes) and make us your neighbors......and you leave and never look back....really....you don't have to be active to be a neighbor......pretty pleaseeeeeeeeeee?
Good Afternoon everyone. Interesting blog today TINA. Now I am wondering which husband you will be listening too. The one you live with or the one you adore...hmmm...I pick number two.
ReplyDeleteI think it interesting that LYNN said about having a telethon for people that have lost their job. It is horrible what has happened in Haiti and I too have given to this situation but home is where the heart is....It is just so heartbreaking when you look at those little children anywhere..starving, bleeding, no parents, etc.
On a happier note...Happy Birthday to your nephew CAROL. Boy, you are quite the party girl...have lots of fun. Is the party at your house?
I wonder if TINA is awake yet? JODI, glad your dr appt went well yesterday.
I am over and out for now but wanted to swoop by and say hi to all of you.
I need 8 more neighbors....
ReplyDeletehypothetically....
Shirley
Whabbear
J/L
Carol
Goldie
SacBarb
Jodi
Jennifer B Williams
as I said ...all ya gotta do is set it up in a snap....and never look back......
Now I know how a beggar feels when people say NO!! And the beggar knows it would only have been a few seconds of their time......but maybe they were to busy playing bedazzled....or farkle to think about how much it would have meant to the beggar.....sniff....sniff...excuse me...I can't go on....(as she runs thru the house to her room and flops sobbing onto her bed)
Thanks kids have not been on FB yet as I got caught up in other things. Things other than housework I should be doing. Decided I needed a little break from the FV as I was getting a little crazy there. Boy was I mad this morning! Had to have a drink and cigarette to calm down. Ok the drink was cawfee but it helped.
ReplyDeleteThose of you who need more friends email me from FB and I will make my friend Angel friend you! She also has an alter ego she created to give me another neighbor. Damn that woman is so smart. Just look for one of Disney's Evil Queens. If she shows up in your request that is her too. Now don't get worried if it doesn't happen right away as she was a fool and told her son and daughter in law she would take all 3 grandkids this weekend. Yes for the whole weekend! She will have a one year old an almost 3 year old and a 9 year old. Glutten for punishment I tell you!
She bought the 24 by 24 and can't do any rearranging until the imps are gone.
J/L I would love to have you as a neighbor! Come to the darkside.....
Hey I can blame Zona and Barb and Tina for this mess. Come to face book they said. Come farm with us, it is great wholesome fun they said, never a stinking word about how you won't get dressed,or brush your teeth and have to convince people the dog hair is just a new type of carpeting and very expensive when they come to the door. When they don't buy that I tell them the vacuum is broken.
Crap I am lieing and living a double life. Dare I say it? (whispering softly) I'm a farm whore......
Lynn, You know you love the farming and even virtual cooking and you love me for sitting your arse down and making you start up your FB account when you were here. I call it therapy! It's less expensive than a doctor.
ReplyDeleteDee Dee, look again ~ I AM ALREADY YOUR NEIGHBOR!
Zona, Helloooo, are you under water yet. PHX was in the news with their 65mph winds and flooding.
J/L, We are supposed to have two days of calm before the storms start again.
All you farm whores who need more neighbors can look at my FB friends; In the L's and O's, there are three more accounts with the same avatar. I've unblocked the app and will leave it like that for a couple days. Once you have those accounts as neighbors, you can "unfriend" them and still keep your neighbor count up.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys cheaqting at farming? LOL. You ARE a bunch of hos!
ReplyDeleteTINA...you really sparked a chord with this one.
ReplyDeleteI will start with saying that the situation in Haiti is def a tragic one. No one should have to suffer like they are. My heart goes out to those that lost loved ones and the sick and the hurt. I pray for them.
Will I donate? No. Not even if I had the means to do so.
When living in what is supposed to be the richest nation in the world and children go to bed hungry, when schools have no books, when local cities and towns are laying off firemen and police officers, when cities have no money to salt roads in trecherous driving conditions, when people can't afford to even die, when people are homeless that were once deeply entrenched in middle class, when our citizens can't afford health care, when our own survivors of Katrina are still homeless...I can't help another country while my own is in such dispair.
I applaud the celebs that have made these million dollar donations, but I say...MATCH that amount to charities HERE. Let Sandra Bullock give another million to LYNN'S food bank.
Maybe I sound harsh, but I have to be real in my thoughts.
And further more...what is that shit on Brad Pitt's chin???? LOL!
After 9/11, I gave a lot of money to the Red Cross. After learning where the money went I vowed not to donate to them again. After that I gave a lot to Doctors without Borders and AmericCares for aid after the Tsunami and Katrina. Now, any money I can donate goes only to local charities.
ReplyDeleteCAROL...what an exciting week for the family! Engagement and then birthday party...FUN!
ReplyDeleteGlad your partner is doing well.
DEE...OMG at your wedding story! You are too effing funny!
DIANNE...WTH is up with that tooth of yours? Feel better.
HODI...hope your arm is feeling better.
Lynn, Bebbi's the one who got me over to FB. I didn't even realize I was joining until after it was done. Then she hooked me on Mafia Wars, then I hooked the people I work with. Hence, 4 accounts.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this morning goes, I do believe in good causes. Haiti is of course, a good cause. I tend not to trust the ones that impress me as having been marketed. It's hard to know whether our contributions will be used to make a difference. All we can do is use our own good judgement and hope for the best.
As far as the celebs go, I do believe Haiti is their flavor of the month, but I also believe they can make a real difference. They win, Haiti wins, no harm.
I work for a not for profit agency and charity drives take place all the time and last year, our office of less then 150 people donated over $25,000 to local charities and over 400 pounds of food to Harvest for Hunger. We also made scarves for the children of the inner city and we donated 200 scarves to the kids. We have already produced another 50 or so for our next drop off in Feb., where we hope to give them another 100.
ReplyDeleteDid I say I love you guys lately?
ReplyDeleteWell there I said it.
I agree with so many of you today. This topic is a mixed bag of emotions and conflicting thoughts. Like Mo said I can't stand to see the suffering and my heart just does palpatations watching the anguish in those faces.
Mo I don't know what that shit is on Brads chin but it really is a turn off.
Barb cheaper than therapy but I may have up those bp meds. I got a little to virtually upset at Farmville today. But you are right it is my escape when I can't take anymore of the outside world.
Now can someone please hook me up with some collectibles? I need a centipede to complete my bug collection.
Bon I do understand and yes I do sometimes feel that with the celeb world there is a flavor of the month theme going on.
I need to go rest I have been up since 2:00 am...this could be why I am a little crazed today.
I hope Tina is ok. Are the still having snow storms?
ReplyDeleteThis flooding rain is crazy you guys. I heard on the news here the other day that we are on track to set a record for the warmest and wettest January in our states record history.
uh....you people call me a cheater....i lost my internet connection last night.....right in the middle of writing the blog....so i lost that and didn't post it. Hubby (principal) woke me up this morning and I used his phone to email whatever I could remember of my blog to carol....SO CAROL POSTED IT (thank you) AND THEN GOT FIRST! And did she even bother to tell anyone!!! humpht!~
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments....mixed emotions....exactly! I did watch some of the telethon....it was a little odd....I kept waiting for bugs to come crawling out of Brad's hair crap!!!
DeeDee~ ur is so much trouble! 6 pennies, huh?
and since you so love my weather! This morning it didn't snow....but I also didn't go to work, so I didn't care! But at 8:45pm, I left to go to Jamba Juice to get dinner for everyone....and up goes the garage door....and damn if there wasn't so everywhere! wtc!!~ Youngest was happy....he wants to go snowboarding~
As for Brad's chin hair, I do believe it is for a movie. He hates having fake hair glued on to his face.
ReplyDeleteBtw, the really big stars like Clooney and Bullock and Pitt and others are not just giving once in a while when there is a big natural disaster. They are giving in big ways all year long in ways that are not publicized.
ReplyDeleteOkay, here is my take on today's blog.
ReplyDelete**********Just my Opinion*********
I feel that no matter how much money hubby and I make it is our responsibility as good citizens to make this world a better place.
If that means by giving money, then we give money. If we are out of money then we give our time. Picking up crap from the side of the road or visiting sick friends in the hospital.
I really don't care if celebrities give or not give. I can only worry about myself and how I feel about myself when I go to bed at night.
OK, Brad's chin hair - ewwwwww
ReplyDeleteAnd I just have to say, Anderson Cooper looks really HOT in that tee shirt!!!!

ReplyDeleteHey, hon, I left you one on facebook.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to blog about the party cause I think I am in over kill.. I could blog about my sore feet, but feet stalkers might enjoy it, and thats wrong, I could blog about how I am still uncomfortable with my picture being taken, Or I can blog about how my brother burst into tears, because he is so happy that is back with his boys, I guess its true "Time Heals" or, I can blog about how hungry I am, cause I hardly ate, the dance floor was a callin my name.. Or maybe I will just blog about nothing!

ReplyDeleteI wrote something this morning bright and early. Something that is silly, but very much important to me.
So Carol were you busting a move on the dance floor tonight?
