Is there life out there?

by Mary/Mi

My sister called me the other day and told me something that gave me the chills. She is a nurse and home cares a sweet 17 month old named Logan. He has many disabilities and has a tube inserted in his throat. The other day, my sister was holding Logan when he started to reach out as if wanting someone to pick him up. He was pointing to an empty corner of his room. She asked him what he wanted. He just kept reaching toward the corner. She didn't think much of it because of his mental situation.

The next day, his 4 year old brother was in the same room. He asked my sister and his Mom, "Why don't you wave at the nice lady?" He kept asking them, so they asked him where she was. He said, "Humpht! In the corner, of course." Well, they decided to appease him and they both waved at the empty corner. This happened again the next day, with the 4 yr old talking to the corner as if there was someone there. At this point, his Mom was a little uneasy and curious, so she said, "Ask the lady what her name is." He looked at her with a kind of "what's the matter with you" look. He said, "Okay" and they watched him ask. He turned back to them and said a name that left his Mom speechless. It was the name of her Grandmother, his Great Grandmother, who, of course, had passed many years before!

How does a 4 year old fake that? They have never mentioned her name! Do you believe such things happen?

  1. omg Mary!!!! I totally believe in all that stuff!! After my niece died, my daughter would make comments about her. One day I asked how she knew whatever she said. She replied, "Cuz I asked her!" I asked her where she saw her and she said, "She over there on the swings!" We have a swingset in the backyard! Love ur blog, Mary~ Thanks~

  2. Good morning to the amazing team of Janice and Tina!

Mary whatever happened, it brought out some fond memories I'm sure. I can't say that I believe in paranormal entities, but I've been wrong before.

Howdy to everyone dropping by later!

  3. Morning Glories and Tina!

I see Janice gave up her chair for Tina to get first again. Waving at Janice!

I do believe that there is more than the eye can see. Children seem much more attuned to some of this than we do. I think it is their innocence and the brain developing at such a rapid growth rate when we are young.

I would say Great Grandma is watching over everyone. How beautiful is that?

  7. MARY - I just got "spingles" reading your blog!! There is no faking this, especially by children. I believe our passed loved ones always surround us, watching out for us, and for this I take great comfort!! A couple years after my Mom passed, Dad fell asleep in his recliner and felt pressure on his shoulder....like someone was standing behind the chair. And he was home alone. I'm sure that it was my Mom.

I just got home....had breakfast with my hubby. Feel about half human. Was able to take a shower, kinda do my hair, put on deoderant, mascara...and most importantly real clothes!!! Small steps I know....:O)

Waving my good wing @ TINA, BONACHICHI, LYNN & CAROL!!!'

p.s. How exciting for your nephew....he's having quite a week!!!

I am on the phone, kinda, sorta, waiting in phone line hell lol!
I wish there was a way for them to except out number and call us back. I am tying up my line! At least I can put it on speaker. That recorded voice can be annoying :(
Thanks for the comments. My sister was a little freaked out by the whole thing. I talk to a few departed friends now & then just in case they are listening lol!

Jodi, I am so glad you are up & at em today! I am sure you are smelling a lot better too lol!!
    Have a great hump day!!

  10. Happy Wednesday from soggy and wind blown Sacramento. Northern CA is being blasted with the fourth storm since Sunday. I thought it was just one big storm, but according to the weather people, each day has been a separate storm. WTH? Today we have had sustained winds between 30-35 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. Didn't we just do this in November? The trees that weren't uprooted in Nov. are down today! The mountains (1 hour from here) are having white out blizzards and some highways are closed. I am ready for Spring.

  11. OMG Mary I totally believe that stuff too. About two years after my husband died, I was awakened from a sound sleep by the smell of cigarette smoke and I swear it was him. He was a heavy smoker and no one had smoked in the house since he died, plus I had changed the window treatments and carpet, so it wasn't a residual smoke smell. I have never seen his image though.

  12. MARY: Your blog gave me chills..I absolutely believe this could happen..because it happened to me. I don't really remember it, but my mom used to tell me this story..and my grandmother confirmed it.

I was about 4 years old and we were living in Pennsylvania. My mom and grandmother were in the kitchen when they heard me singing in the basement. They walked down the stairs..and saw me sitting on the arm of the rocking chair, my feet hanging over the seat while the chair rocked slowly back and forth. My grandmother asked me quietly who I was singing to..and I answered "Grandpa". Mom said she had to grab my grandmother's arm to hold her up as she clutched the bannister. She asked me what he was wearing..and I described the clothes he had been wearing when he passed away just two days earlier. I hadn't been told that he had passed on yet.

My mom always said that she believed there was just a thin veil between this life and the next..and that the loved ones we have lost were really never that far from our side. I truly believe this. I think love is such a strong emotion..it keeps us connected even after death.

    TINA: Congrats on #1~

    LYNN: I agree with you..it's a child's innocence..they haven't learned to doubt yet..they just believe..

CAROL: How fun!! Congrats to Italian Stallion Number 1!

JODI: The night after my dad died, my mom was lying on the sofa..and she heard "Carol..Carol honey.." and felt someone touch her face..she said she knew it was dad.

MARY: I've found myself apologizing to my mom when I say things sometimes..I hope she has selective hearing..lol..

BARB: Your storm will be our storm tomorrow..they are forecasting flash flooding down here and a lot of snow for the high country. Stay safe and dry!

BEAR: That's not what I meant when I said 'high' country.. ;)

  13. BARB: A year or so after my dad died my sister came home from work late. She usually left a light on inside, but had somehow forgotten to turn one on this time. She was a little afraid to walk into the dark house..and then she smelled my dad's cologne..and she said she knew everything was alright.

  14. Tina, congrats on #1.

Lynn, I agree that children in their innocence are more tuned in to these kinds of things.

Carol, How exciting for your nephew and his soon-to-be-fiance and for the family too. It is so nice that you all will be able to share in their joy.

Jodi, Glad you were finally able to shower and I bet the family is too. Let us know what happens at your appointment tomorrow. I'll be saying an extra prayer. ♥

Waving a wing at all who land later. I hope my electricity stays on.

  15. Howdy BONACHI! I need to get my glasses fixed..didn't mean to miss you.. :)

SHIRLEY: I made dinner again last night..chicken, shrimp and steamed veggies..no smoke alarms this time! I must be improving! :D

BARB: Congrats on QOTD..how did you know? ;)

  16. Has anyone heard from JUST LIN? The news is saying the storm was really harsh on Pacifica.

And what about CHI CHI in Southern CA?

    TINA...are your parents ok?

    MARY...I believe anything is possible!

    CAROL...great news. Gratz.

  17. BOO!

It's like Goosebumps Summer Camp in here. Nobody's going to sleep tonight; we'll all be seeing dead people. I hope whoever I see likes me. Slim chance, that. But I can hope.

  18. I'M HERE, MO!!

Got half a tree in the front yard, a leak in the family room and I haven't seen the trash bin since yesterday cuz it floated down the street.

Yes, we've been hit nice and hard. The local news told me we had a tornado yesterday. I'd have called it a hurricane, but what do I know?

My kayak is armed and ready. Watch for me paddling near some rooftops on the news.

  19. Oh, and I've somehow cursed my cars. I drove over someone's sharp tool (you pervs!) and popped a tire on one car. The rescue car (thanks Mr. B) appeared with the Check Engine light on, so that's in the shop today. The only car left is the snazzy little T-Bird, which has never seen rain. My wings have been clipped. I'm stranded.

  20. Hello, HOoters!

Tina Congrats to you and Janice on being first!

Carol How exciting! You all are going to have a great time tonight. I assume you are all confident that the girlfriend will say yes. LOL

Jodi It sounds like you're having a nice day. I love going out for breakfast.

SacBarb Quite the storms aren't they? Yesterday they clocked the winds at the Golden Gate Bridge at 70 mph. Once again, I had a restless night. If it wasn't noise from the storm waking me up, it was the sirens I'd hear, my cat yelling for no good reason, squirrels fighting on my roof at about 5 a.m., and the faint smell of skunk at one point. It was like I was trying to sleep in the middle of a circus or something.

Mary I don't know if I believe this stuff or not but I kind of want to.

Waving at Bonach, LynnD, and Zona.

  21. J/LIN: Just saw the updated forecast for tonight and tomorrow..1 to 3 inches of rain..and 40-60mph winds. I don't mind the rain so much..though the ground is pretty saturated..but the winds scare the hell out of me.

btw..the smell of skunk is the worst..even if it is faint..

Hi MO! Sure? I can deliver ya know.. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Zona I know. I'm not liking the winds, plus, now the ground is saturated and makes it even easier for trees to come down. So far, my trees, fence and roof shingles are all intact.

  23. MO Hey, I didn't see you up there! How are you feeling? I am doing okay where I am but there is an apartment bldg close to falling into the ocean as the waves have eroded the bluff it is sittin on until there is only 10 ft of land behind it. I understand an apartment bldg next to it is also losing some land behind it as a big chunk of land broke away.

  24. Wow, Mary...goosebumps like MAD...I believe in that stuff very much. Gosh..great blog.

  28. I love this blog! Kids and animals are so open...

    1. My stepfather died of a massive heart attack, sitting in his car on his lunch break. He told his co-workers he was going to rest in the car because he didn't feel well. When he didn't return (he worked on a ship), they assumed he went on home. Nobody noticed his car still sitting in the public lot where he had parked. At around lunch time that same day, my mom's dogs started staring and making strange (half bark/half whine) noises in the direction of my stepdad's desk. Their behavior was strange enough that my mom noted it even though she didn't learn of my stepdad's death until the police notified her the following morning.

    2. When my dad died, I was extremely anxious about having to sit at the front of the church during his funeral service. As I sat down, I felt a warm hand on my shoulder even though nobody was touching me and I instantly knew it was my dad there to comfort me.

    3. At the first place we lived in when we moved to SF, my dog used to stare at the stairs all the time and I sort of suspected she was seeing something I couldn't, but I never said anything to anyone. One year my mother-in-law was visiting for Thanksgiving and because her bad knee kept her from going up the stairs, she slept on the couch. The next morning she asked me if I knew our house had ghosts. She said she felt their presence on the stairs. Prior to this, nobody had mentioned to her about the dog's behavior.

    4. I was driving to work one morning when I hit a patch of black ice that sent my car into a wild spin. I was on a highway entrance ramp -- on one side was a steep embankment, on the other was a level grassy area. In the midst of this crazy spinning I let go of the steering wheel and the car suddenly slowed and backed onto the grassy area as if I were putting it there intentionally.

  39. HI...MARY, I also believe these things happen.. How else can people know a name or memory? I always talk to my deceased family..no answers from any of them but I do talk.

My granddaughters went home tonight and I already miss them. They are getting so grown up that it is almost having a couple of adults around. They love it that I stay up late and let them do the same thing..we all sleep late then in the AM.

We went to the movies and saw Leap Year with Amy Adams and it was very cute. It costs me a lot of money when they are here going to movies, shopping, out to eat, etc., but it is so fun.

Well,I just wanted to drop by and say hello since I haVe been gone for awhile. My tummy is bothering me tonight so I am off to bed and will check in tomorrow.

Hope you are all doing well and sending get well wishes for JODI and hope your dr appt goes well tomorrow.

  40. J/L, The Sac news did a story about that apt. in Pacifica. I wondered if it was near you. The rain pounded us here today until after 5:00 It is finally peaceful here, no rain and no wind, but they say it will start again tomorrow. Do you think your cat is yelling because of the bad weather?

    ReplyDelete
  41. SacBarb No, my cat was already yelling in the middle of the night before the bad weathr as if she thinks everyone left her. She is 19 1/2 yrs old and has a bit of dementia, I think, and is very hard of hearing so yells extra loud. She'll sometimes do it in the middle of the day, too, if she can't see me. I'm not near the apt bldg. I'm in the southern part of town and it's in the northern part.
