~ Lottery ~

by Tina~not_in_ut

Hubby read us this article Wednesday night:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A central Kentucky autoworker is lucky he held on to the $128 million Powerball ticket he bought on Christmas Eve during some last-minute shopping — after all, it was printed by mistake.

Lottery officials said Rob Anderson and his wife, Tuesday, were winners of the largest jackpot in the state's history.

On Wednesday the couple was introduced at the state lottery headquarters in Louisville. The Andersons said they didn't initially believe they had won the $128.6 million jackpot after buying lottery tickets together for 12 years.

"We didn't hit it, that's not us," Rob Anderson said he told his wife after showing her the winning ticket the morning after the Dec. 26 drawing. "Something's not right!"

Rob Anderson, 39, said the winning ticket was a misprint that he decided to keep while buying stocking stuffers at a Georgetown, Ky., gas station.

He wanted to buy $1 lottery tickets for three people, but the clerk goofed.

"The clerk ran the $3 Quick Pick but he put it all on one ticket, and I was like, doggone it, I needed three separate tickets," Anderson said.

The clerk asked him if he wanted to keep the ticket, which had three sets of random numbers.

"Yeah, I got a couple extra dollars," Anderson said, and he bought three more tickets to give as gifts.

When he arrived at home, he tossed the ticket on his dresser and didn't think about it until the Sunday morning after the drawing. When he remembered it, he checked the Powerball numbers and they matched one of the sets of numbers on the botched ticket: 32-36-37-41-53 and Powerball 30.

The couple, who work at a plant building seats for Toyotas, said they were hesitant to go public about the winnings. They declined to say if they had children.

"We're really grounded people," Rob Anderson said. "My wife taught me well, so to speak, to hang on to that dollar and see how far it gets you. We'll still clip coupons and still look for the clearance rack."

He said they would like to go back to school. His proposed major? Finance.

Tuesday Anderson said they have a dream of visiting Hawaii and she wants a new car.

The couple said they haven't decided if they'll return to work and whether they'll take a lump sum payment, which would be worth about $63 million.

Prior to this jackpot, the largest ever won in Kentucky was $89.3 million in 1996.

The article got us talking. What would we do with all that money. Hubby laughed when he read that they'd keep on working. Both of us would quit in a heartbeat. Hubby would buy a place in Hawaii and another in Park City and start his own charitable organization. Me......I just want a huge craft room and to tell my hubby who he could and could not give money to! The twins wanted to know what would happen to them. I suggested a nice boarding school, but really.....our worries about paying for college would be over. My son told hubby he could buy the new car he wants but is not getting until all the kids are out of college. I would also pay for a complete overhaul of my parents' house. It's MUCH needed and I know they wouldn't want to move, so at least I'd know they were comfortable for the rest of their lives. My kids were so funny, and thought on such a small scale. It was nice not to hear that we had to have a ginormous house and a car each and an xbox in every room!

What would you do with all that money?

  9. TINA...If I won a big jackpot I would become retired in a nano second. I would volunteer and travel. I would fix up all the issues my house has and then sell it to a needy family that wants to get their kids in a good school system...for 1 dollar. I would move closer to my family. I would pay off all the debt of my friends and family. I would take one shopping spree and then be back at Wallyworld! I would stock LYNN's food bank and I would set up a trust fund for our local food banks - they would never not have enough food to feed those that need it.
I would send SHIRLEY a car so she didn't need to use a taxi ever again.!
Oh, and I would buy a big tv and get cable again!

  10. I would definitely build myself an enviromentally friendly house and buy a car. My siblings and nieces and nephews would get some...a million each (I can think of 1 sibling that would want more).

I don't know what I would do for mum. I don't think she would move or could handle renovations so I would make her as comfy as possible. Nice soft new bed, a maid to cook for her and take care of her needs and lots of propane so she could turn the stoves up as much as she wanted to be warm (she is always cold). I would take her wherever she wanted to go.

Then I think I would arrange a meeting of the owls...all of us...tickets, accomadations and food (you have to pay for your own booze!).

Oh, and I would buy all the Star Trek series on DVD and the movies too.

  14. Morning Glories!

Shirley is still beautiful and the prettiest! Hope you feel okay today after all of that shoveling.

Tina I have pondered what I would do if we won a lottery. I do buy tickets here and there.

Hubby would retire in less than a heart beat! We would travel a bit and more than likely buy a home in a warm climate but we would downsize!

Help the kids natch! Help buying homes or money for school tuition.

I keep thinking that I would go back to school and get a degree oh and yes we need new cars. I would like a Mustang convertible. Hubby a truck.

The dogs would get an upgrade in food.

Pay off my Dads house and then money for charities.

Usual stuff. Like you said the need to stay grounded would be my top priority.

Ok need to finsh on FB and then I have food bank today. Love you all

PS If I won a huge amount I would plan an owl get together in a fantastic place. Pay for your travel expenses etc....

  16. Good Morning Hooters and congrats to you AGAIN Shirley!!

Tina` if I won the lottery I would probably have a heart attack and croak. No worries about spending the money!

Seriously though, I know that I would set up trusts for all my immediate family and I would travel. I would not work (who is anyone kidding with that statement of not knowing).

I would contribute to charity and I would throw the BIGGEST PARY EVER for all my friends and family.

I would also hire someone to teach me how to navigate my new phone! lol

    Happy Saturday to you all!!!!

  19. TINA - I would pay off our house, put some aside for the kids for college, set up some charitable contributions (probably for Diabetes research)and do the biggest blog buddy tour EVAH!!! It would be soooooo nice not to have to work so hard. I get sick of living check to check.

    SHIRLEY - Congrats on first!!

    Waving a wing @ MO & DIANNE!!

  23. Hi Guys!!

Just got home from seeing "Avatar" in 3-D..and guess what? I didn't throw up on anyone! I'm so proud of myself! :D

The movie was fantastic..I loved every minute of it! If you get a chance..go see it..and be sure to see it in 3-D..it's really worth the extra couple bucks. There was one part where there were flecks of dust and leaves flying around the main character..and I had to remind myself it was a movie so I wouldn't reach up and brush them away..it was so cool!

TINA: I would be a little afraid to win that much money..I've read a lot of sad stories about what happens when a family wins the lottery. That being said..I think I would use any money I won to fix up this house..completely redo it..then give money to my sister and Mr Z's family..and to other friends and family that needed some help. I'd donate to the Humane Society, St Vincent de Paul..and other worthy charities..and finally..I'd buy a car..and go back to school!! I think I would travel just a bit too..fair warning to you all just in case I do win someday! :D

  24. SHIRLEY: Congrats on FIRST..are you sure there is nothing leftover from breakfast..I'm starving!

DIANNE: Oh so close! LOL@ refreshing in the shower!

    MO: Omg..a three way!! :D

LYNN: A warmer climate? You can't get much warmer than here! :)

MO2: I would trade you our sun for your snow in a heartbeat..I got sunburned today!

JODI: We went to check out the venue for the game tomorrow..Mr Z said that there were way too many Packer fans milling around..lol..

GOLDIE: I bet I would croak if I won too! ;)

DEEDEE: What is a Gulfstream G650?

  25. wow....you are all a giving bunch~ (except for DeeDee~) :)~ ...but I knew what she was going to say when I wrote it~ :D Always the jet~

Shirley~ so glad my mom fed me instead of counting on you~ ijs~

    I'm home....i'm drained.....see you all tomorrow~

  26. ZONA: You got sunburned in the movies? I also didn't see a comment from you yesterday on your "little puppy" so I know you didn't read it better go check area 51.

I would do the same as most of you if I won the lottery. I would pay off our house and the kids houses. I would make sure we would all be comfortable and I suppose maybe let MrD quit his job...maybe. I would do some fun trips to other countries...or probably more like some cruises to other countries. I would figure out favorite charities and homeless and food banks would be on the top of my list. I used to volunteer with the homeless and saw a completely different story to myself and that was a lot of years ago too. I would like to take my kids and families on a family cruise and get the grandkids cars when they are of age. I am older than a lot of you so I have to use this money quicker.

SHIRLEY: I loved the breakfast you gave MO and I this morning. It gave me a really good reason for being up with the chickens.

We went to see It's Complicated with Alec Baldwin and Merryl Streep and it was really good. Even my friends and my husband liked it. We laughed a lot and then went to Chili's for dinner. It was a nice night.

My grandsons took first and third place at the wrestling match today so looks like the kids did well between basketball last night and the boys today. Now if only I could have taken first this morning.

  27. Hi hooters!. I have been busy all day. Mr Mary took me out to eat and have a couple drinks. We played some keno at the bar and I won $73. Not quite the millions Tina was talking about lol!

I know what I would do. I would make sure my brothers sisters would never have to worry about another house payment, bill or groceries. I would ask them each what charity was their fave, and donate to it in their names. Just knowing they were all taken care of would feel like millions to me.
I would set up endowments and scholarships. I would fly all of my owls to where ever they wanted to go. Tina & I would visit G. Clooney :). I would get things "tucked","sucked," "lifted"! before I saw him so I could look prettier than Tina!

    Have a great Sunday everyone!!

    You too sweet lurkers :):)!!!!

  28. DIANNE: No..I didn't get sunburned in the movies you goof..we saw "Avatar" at the theatre near where the Cards play..it was such a nice day..we decided to take a walk over to the stadium..then we sat for a while and watched the dancing fountains. It was 71 and sunny..not a cloud in the sky..I was as surprised as anyone that I got a little pink in the cheeks.. ;)

Just re-read your post in Area 51..you may have heard me purr with Mr Z..but there was no woof woofing..well..he may have growled a little.. ;)

TINA: Funny thing..some guy walked up to us as we walked to the stadium and handed us a $1,000,000,000 bill..then said "It's only fair that I tell you it's not real." lol..

MARY: I would have been thrilled with $73! LOL @ tucked, sucked and lifted!

DIANNE: Congrats to all your grandchildren!

  29. Welcome home, Tina. Thanks for the blog today. The very first thing I would do is meet with my financial advisor. After I got that squared away, I'd do pretty much the same as everyone else.
