The End of the Season

by Dianne

Super Bowl is Sunday and then football is over for another season. We will have to wait until August to have Professional football start again. The training season starts earlier in the summer but not the "real" thing. I do also have my Fantasy Football league that I am in every year....(came in last this year and the best QB Drew Breese was my QB). My husband likes the college football but unless it is Colorado, I'm not too interested.

It took me a long time to like football. I was divorced in 1974 and had probably never watched a football game, but now I was single. All of a sudden, I was with single men and women that actually watched and loved football. I realized as a young single woman that I need to broaden my horizons plus look like I knew what I was talking about to those cute young men...so I learned about football and actually started liking it. We had Bronco parties in those days (with a much different group of people that today). Yes, I still ask questions as I don't understand some of the calls, etc., but I know enough to enjoy watching a game...even if I am home alone!!

As you all know (I think), I am a huge Bronco fan. I have season tickets that I sell now but used to go to every game, regardless of the weather ---but I was younger then, too. My ex and I would put on our snowmobile suits and brave the weather--snow, blizzard, or rain. We have a group that we have Bronco parties with for about 7 of the games ending with the Super Bowl (okay, we women watch in a different room because the men say we talk too much). I get so excited with the action and watch many more games that just the Broncos. Sunday is going to be a withdrawal for my husband and me now. We have a ritual of staying in sweats all day, reading the paper, napping, watching football and having Subway for dinner. Now what will we do???? It has been a lot of fun sparring with SACBARB, ZONA, MO, JODI AND MARY on their teams...when we have all known all the time that the Broncos are the best (especially against SACBARB AND ZONA'S Raiders).

Do any of you have a sport you like to watch on TV? I know some of you love tennis, ice skating, golf, nascar, etc. I think it would be fun to hear if any of you go through any withdrawals like I am about to go through.

At least we have the Olympics coming up and that will take care of a Sunday or two. Oh yeah, one more thing.......GO SAINTS!!!

  1. Hi Dianne! I'm not a huge football fan. I understand it enough to watch a game and I enjoy all the football talk here on the blog. I don't always know the players you are talking about though. I will watch a little of the Super Bowl, but not all of it, cause it will go too late for me. I hope you enjoy the game though!

  2. Dianne I made you some special gingerbread pancakes in the shape of footballs. They are in the kitchen. I hope you like them!

  3. Morning Glories!

Ahhhh Shirley is the beautiful one this morning! Great to see your sunny face!

Dianne don't shoot me but most of the time I have little to no interest in most sports. Mr. Lynn D watches but for the most part I have to many other things to do. LOL

I do love following the Olympics. I love watching the variety of sports that are offered in that venue because we don't get to see many of them televised. Like Diving and swimming etc... I do love to watch the gymnastics, because those athletes amaze me!

Sorry about your withdrawl problem. What about filling the void with the Disney channel or HGTV??? You can bet on which new youngen will end up being the next Britney or Lindsey showing their whowho for everyone to see. HGTV you can bet on which first time home buyer has the highest expectations on what they buy with the paltry budget they can afford.

Will they give up the Gold plated bathroom taps for a bathroom with running water? The big decision of Stainless steel appliances in the kitchen or make do like the rest of us, with appliances that work. Closet space or a place to sleep.

See there are some very good spectator sports out there on other channels. I know I have a great time yelling at those newbies on HGTV, yelling things like "Get Real", "Hey Moron I have a cardboard box you can afford." Or "Are you Freaking Kidding Me"!!!! When they whine about a rooms paint color. It really gets ugly if I have a beer or two! :)

  5. Good Morning...

I don't get excited over football unless the Aggies are on a roll...but I do have this article from the news today to share.....

Youngest Oregon Zoo orangutan likes Colts

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- If you trust a rodent to predict when winter will end, how about an ape to guide your Super Bowl winner selection?

The Oregon Zoo's youngest orangutan, Kutai, showed no hesitation Friday in selecting an Indianapolis Colts T-shirt during the annual football forecasting event at the zoo.

The zoo says Kutai has predicted the winner in four of the past five Super Bowls, including the New York Giants' win over the New England Patriots in 2008. His only loss came last year when he incorrectly picked the Arizona Cardinals over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Similar to Punxsutawney Phil's yearly predictions on the arrival of spring, the zoo's orangutans have been predicting Super Bowl outcomes.

Matriarch Inji was 6-1 at one point in picking winners, but has become less reliable in recent years. Still senior primate keeper Dave Thomas says she has excuses - Kutai once took every shirt for one team, forcing Inji to select the opposition.

Inji and third orangutan Batik picked New Orleans this time.

  8. Good morning Hooters! I used to like Footbal, Basketball and Baseball but I it is against my religion to sit for four hours to watch a game that has 1 hour of playing time. I feel as if I'm robbed of 3 hours of my life.

Turtle racing is a wonderful sport. I watch every chance I get.

  9. Shirley Congrats on #1 today! We need your sunshine here on the west coast. How's your mum doing?

LynnD I don't wach HGTV. I didn't know it was such an emotional experience. LOL

DeeDee I only pay attention to the 49ers so I guess an orangutan's guess is as good as mine.

Carol I'm glad you didn't get hit by the snow storm. Stay warm.

Bonach I've never been able to give a rat's ass about basketball. For one thing, I find the squeaking noise their shoes make on the floor, really, really annoying. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  10. Dianne Since it's not the 49ers in the Super Bowl, I will have a hard time caring which team wins but I will probably watch, even if I am doing other things at the same time. Now, if the 49ers were playing, I'd really pay strict attention and get emotionally involved. I do enjoy watching our team play. My husband and I would always make sure we were home to watch the game. I'd usually make some kind of snacks for us. It was a nice lazy way to spend part of our Sunday.

  11. Hi Guys!

DIANNE: I LOVE THE RAIDERS!!!! :D

With that said, I'm really not that into most sports..I don't mind watching them as long as I can understand what's going on. I do love watching NASCAR though..I love the noise, the speed..just everything about it..especially Kevin Harvick. Yummy!

Mr Z loves the AZ Cardinals and I liked watching the games with him. Now that Kurt Warner has retired, he may be watching them alone. I really liked Warner. I don't have a favorite for the Super Bowl..I'm not a big Manning fan..so maybe I'll go with the Saints. It doesn't really matter to me though.

BTW..what was the name of that QB you liked..Jim..Jim Alway or something..I forget.. ;)

    Great blog today DI..thank you!

  12. Diane, Growing up I wasn't much into sports. I went to High school games to hang out with my friends and check out the boys :)
I had 2 sons by my first marriage. Both sons were very active in sports, so I got into all their games. My now husband loves every and any sport. He commandeers the tv in the living room to watch Baseball, Hockey, Football & Basketball.
What I will miss about football is my football pools (not that I gamble ;-). We have had such a lousy football team, that I have had to switch teams. Unfortunately that team is not in the Super Bowl this year, is it Diane lol!!

LynnD, You cracked me up on your HGTV comments! I love that channel, especially the House hunters International. I got a lot of my kitchen remodeling ideas from
HGTV. Mr Mary kept telling me to not watch it. lol! He was happy with the old nasty kitchen! Men! He does love the new one though.

It is frickin cold here in Mich. The wind has been howling for two days now! I am grateful that we have been spared the snow others have gotten. According to weather reports, we will get our share next week :(

    ReplyDelete
  13. SHIRLEY: Pssst..the pancakes were delish..shhhhh.. ;)

LYNN: I really like the Olympic Winter Games..all that snow.. ;)

DEEDEE: Kutai's record should still be 100%..the Cards were robbed last year!

BONACHI: I like the Weenie races myself.. :D

    J/LIN: I used to play basketball..eons ago..but I can't watch it either, it gives me a headache.

CAROL: Did you circle any parking lots today? :)

    I've been running errands all day..sometimes I think that's a kind of sport too..sheesh..

Now it's time to clean up the pool, do the laundry and work some more in the garage. I hope everyone is having a great Saturday!

  14. MARY: Ummm..we had the a/c running in the car..and a lot of people at the store were in shorts and flipflops. Can we trade? :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. DIANNE: I know you're not partial to NASCAR..but Tim McGraw will be performing at the pre-race show at the Daytona 500. I don't know if his show will be broadcast on TV but you might want to check it out. Noon EST Feb 14th on FOX. Who knows..you might decide to watch the race too! :D

    ReplyDelete
  16. Di~ I love the Super Bowl! It marks the beginning of the NASCAR season! In fact, tonight there is a race and qualifying tomorrow for the Daytona 500! So yes....I LOVE the Super Bowl! You know...the NASCAR season lasts until November....you and Mr Di could watch that on Sundays~ :D

    Shirl-E~ Congrats on first~ I've missed you~

LynnD~ I can't stand HGTV!!! Hubby watches it....I'm with you! Bunch of idiots....BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD, ASSHOLE! IT'S CALLED A SINGLE WIDE....NOT A MANSION!!~

DeeDee~ You should buy that ape! I bet Tiny would like it~ :D

Carol~ Glad you didn't get a bunch of that white stuff....unless it's a bunch of that white stuff you can snort~ ijs~

    Bonachichi~ you know...you can tape a game/race.....and fast forward....saves time! ijs~

J/L~ so did they 49's graduate then or where they born then? Seems like they are kinda old either way...maybe that's why they aren't in the SB~ :)~

Zona~ who are the cardinals and raiders?

    Mary~ I didn't know you were married! :D

  19. Tina Danica might make NASCAR worth watching just out of curiosity. I hope she does well. As for the 49ers, who you calling old?

    ******ATTN FB WHORES*****

Lani's computer is effed up right now so that's why she hasn't responded to some of your requests. Probably caught an STD from everybody plowing each others' fields and all. LOL

  20. Well said Mary...round and round...and noise...you forgot that awful sound.....

same thing with football.....throw it ...catch it...get tackled...time out....

They fiddle and fart around more on the football field than at a "nascar" hootenanny.....

  22. Just checking in between errands, baby shower, visiting a friend, grocery shopping for some extra things for Super Bowl party and now getting ready to go out to dinner for our seven year anniversary..it's not until Monday but we thought we would go tonight.

MrD went shopping for a new suit today for the formal night of the cruise. He didn't want to rent a tux and "thought" he could wear his navy blazer and some navy dockers and that it would look like a suite. Not so much...his darling wife told him I would rather wear jeans and go to the buffet than him wear that to two formal nights. The suit he had was kind of tight on him.... He did very well picking it all out with a salelady helping him for shirts, ties, socks, hankies (or whatever you call then nowadays) and got a fairly decent price for most of it. I am proud of him.

Off to dinner. Doesn't look like many people on the blog today or maybe don't want to talk about sports...come on....I know lots of you watch different ones..;.

  23. Lynn.. I love the commercials to..

Dianne.. my fav sport is football, however I don't watch it regularly, I watch when I can, and if the Giants are doing well, then I def watch. I am not crazed tho, if I miss any game I am fine with it.. I went to one game @ Giant Stadium many yrs ago, I had fun, but I don't think I would do it again.. I know that so many ppl are truly sports fans, and I actually love chatting with a sport fan, cause they are just so passionate.

Any other sport, I usually don't watch..

I am looking forward to the Olympics tho... I love the ice skating..

Thanks for todays blog, and the vid. That song is def a staple for Monday Night Football..

  26. Hi, Carol! Oh, I LOVE the Olympics!

    Bbl, I'm cooking dinner.

  27. All the sportcasters are predicted the Saints.. It would be pretty funny if the Colts win.. cause so many have said it will be the Saints.. so I guess I would have to say the Colts are the underdogs..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi J/L.. I was just getting to that.. Dianne is it a Caribbean Cruise?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, and I don't like auto racing.. but very happy Tina does..

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a question..

Why is it called Daytona 500?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh maybe because its in Daytona FL and there are 500 laps..

    can that be?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Zona..

No, no circling in parking lots today, we certainly had a destination and it was "Five Guys Burgers and Fries".. This chain is opening up all around my area. First time I tried it.. It was good.. but it was a burger, def not the best burger I have ever had.. but still good..

I did have to take a Tagament tho..

  37. Dianne: Sorry, yes, I love watching so many sports on TV... tennis, golf, olympics, college and pro football, figure skating are ALL faboo! I hardly every watch baseball, though, and absolutely loathe basketball and soccer!

    Tomorrow... GEAUX SAINTS!

And... Zona... just got caught up on your blog yesterday. Great writing about an interesting little life event!

  38. Carol Are you sure you aren't farming instead of reading?
And I def know what you mean about not being in the mood for crazy. Sometimes just having a low-key, lazy day at home is just what the doctor ordered.

Bear Geaux Saints, very clever. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just spent 15 minutes doing something besides farming! Reading Whabby's blog lol! Thanks for jerking my brain out of the muck muck lol!!

  41. Carol~ What do you mean, "Who is Danica?" Do you live under a rock?

and it's called the Daytona 500 because it's in Daytona Beach, FL and they drive 500 miles~

    ReplyDelete
  42. J/L~ NASCAR is always worth watching~ ijs~

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tina Not my thing, although I would be curious to see how Danica does. I think races are boring until it gets near the end and everyone starts jockying for position and trying to get to the front of the pack.

    ReplyDelete
  44. SHIRLEY: Thanks for the gingerbread pancakes...I left one out that ZONA found and hid all the others. I even put them in my jammie pockets. You are so sweet. How are you doing and how is your mom?

We are going on a Mexican Riveria Cruise on the 21st of Feb for a week. We have had it planned for a really long time. I will tell you more about it this week. It has been so funny/weird that I could probably write another blog...doesn't that just excite all of you (well maybe it does CAROL AND TINA).

DEEDEE: I agree with you with Nascar..round and round and round and crash and round.

ZONA: EXECUSE ME.....wash your mouth out with soap...we do not take the name of John Elway in vain!!!!

CAROL: Of tonight the spread for the game tomorrow is the Colts by 5..I just think most everyone wants the Saints to win for the first time...plus Ellen wants them to win..so there you go...I am for the Saints. She had such a fun show about it on Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dianne That will be fun. Where do you sail out of?

    ReplyDelete
  46. lol Di~ I thought his name was Tom Elway~ Are you sure it's John?

    ReplyDelete
  47. TINA: Have you been to mass yet today? It is not nice to be mean to famous, wonderful, talented, great, amazing people. I think one of the commandments talks about that...j/s.

J/L: Los Angeles...I am not a hot weather person at all so I am second guessing myself right now.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ok...nighty night owls...I need to get my rest for FOOTBALL TOMORROW!!! Thanks for the response to my blog..I always get just a little nervous that no one will post. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Di~ Mass tomorrow~ And I Love Dale Jarrett~ That's who you were talking about when you said "famous, wonderful, talented, great, amazing people", right? :)~ Good night~

  50. Hi everyone! Sorry I've been absent lately. The first week back to work was hard for several reasons. I had to get use to going to bed and getting up earlier than usual. I think the 8 months of not working spoiled me!

We have been busier this week than any other first week. The H&R Block office in town has a new owner (the old owner had been there for years and everyone knew her) and I guess they aren't very friendly. "Mean" & "Rude" were too words discribing her. So we have had a lot of new clients, which is good for us.

It has been hard not going to mum's too. I was only able to go one night after work. I had arranged for a nurse to come every day while I was working, but mum cancelled them. I think she is depressed. I've been feeling guilty for going back to work, but it's the only way for me to get money. I think I know how a new mother feels when they have to leave their child for the first time to go back to work.

So that's why I haven't been around much. I just didn't feel much like talking. Thank you to everyone who asked about my job and mum.
    (((((HUGS)))))
