I'm a Farmer

by Dianne

This song/video is pretty cute on the "farming" issue from Facebook. I read last week that over 800 million people are now "farming". The article said people use it for an escape from their life, problems, etc. It's like playing a video game or something. The article also had some people writing why they liked it so much and they said it was relaxing and just not a thinking project. I agree and let me tell you my short (or long) story....

TINA needed me to be a farmer so she could have neighbors, so I gave her my password and before I knew it I was getting gifts for Farmville, Farmtown and an Island. I continued to tell others that "I don't farm". As time went on friends and family started IM'ing me on my farm. Tina would either ignore it or just try and say hi or whatever. As I talked to other people, I gradually learned how to farm and would go on once in awhile. Before I knew it--- I was hooked and now I no longer wanted Tina on my farm...because I WAS THE FARMER!!

I have enjoyed it and my two granddaughters do Farmville. I like FT and FV. I know all of you don't do it, but I think everyone has heard of it. I enjoy Farmtown because you go into a market to get people to harvest your crops. I have talked to many interesting people from Australia, the Philippines, England, and all over the United States. I have kept some of those people as what we in Farmtown call "buddies" and we can go back to them to work on our farm or vice versa.

The downside of farming.....I find I spend many more hours on the computer than I ever have in my life. I get very irritated if I am harvesting for someone and the computer loses its signal and I lose my job and all the money I could have made!! I also spend too much time on the kids farms just keeping them up when they are in school during the week.

Soooooo, if anyone wanted to know about farming or didn't...my granddaughter showed me this song (except she turns down the sound during the "naughty" word) and I just thought it would make a cute blog (and give Tina and Carol a break). Happy Farming---(J/L--does this now convince you that you need to join FB)?

  1. Di~ I'm a farmer too! What are the chances?~ :)~ I love Farmtown, but I'm so over Farmville!!!! I've got Island Paradise (ugh!) and Tiki Island! :D Do you think that's too much?!!!~

Okay....off to work for me!!!~ (gotta beat Janice!)

  2. Hi Guys!

DIANNE: I love farming too! I was in bed with a migraine once and Mr Z asked if he could do anything to help..I asked him if he would go harvest my crops on Farmtown! And he did!

Thanks to LYNN..I also have a Cafe. I set a timer so I don't burn anything. It's kind of embarassing when it goes off while I'm on the phone and the person I'm talking to wants to know what I'm cooking though.. ;)

It sometimes surprises me how much time I spend on 2 farms, 2 islands and a cafe. I vow that I'm going to cut back..but I know that's just an empty promise..there's always one more level to attain..and I'm determined to get there!

    Loved your blog Dianne..thank you!

TINA: Congrats on First! I think you're the farmer that got everyone else to be a farmer! So..thank you! :D

  4. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first Whoretina!

Dianne! I told Zona weeks ago that I was thinking about writing a blog about Farming....what happened? Ummm Farming!

Okay I resisted the darkside for a long time too and now I have 2 farms. Farmtown and Farmville, Tiki farm (which I consider an island game) Island Paradise (because I can steal...er borrow from other Islands), A hospital and a Cafe.

HEY!!! Before you non app players judge me, I do not drug and only drink occasionally! I need some addiction to keep me normal.

I think my favorite is Farmville. They change things up and keep us on our toes and hooked. For me it is very relaxing, well except for yesterday when I was gone all day, dead dog tired and had to check my farms. Went to Farmville and all of my damn Morning Glories had withered. Crap Crap Crap!

My first thought was what will the neighbors think? Okay yeah, I know that is not sane. I don't care what my neighbors think in real life and my yard reflects that, so what the hell? I have standards on my farm, my control and fantasy yard if I had a Kagillion dollars and could hire someone to do it my real yard would look like that. I don't know what Freud would say about all of this, do you think something like, I had introverted sexual fantasies because I obssess about my hedges and flower planting and making sure my animals are harvested? Weird Chicken love??? The flowers represent my desire to see my vagina flower? Who the hell knows?

I just know this is my virtual world I can control it. It in many ways is like having my own doll house that I can arrange and rearrange to my hearts content. Never had one as a kid. Another Freud moment.

My computer is not really digging this tho. Evidently I may need more memory and crap for it keep up! Something about giga bytes and RAM. Speaking of RAM I wish farmville would create those for our farms. We have the Ewes and babies but how the hell that happens without a RAM I am mystified. I tell myself that I have an artificial insemination unit in barn to deal with this dilemma. However I am running out of storage for all of the sperm they tell me and I need to have an old fashioned barn raising but I can't get all of my neighbors to participate. WTF??? So I am still trying to figure out how the chickens are procreating without a rooster. Could it be the turkeys are involved??? Hmmm Maybe the swans or ducks. At least they finally gave us a bull to explain why the cows were having babies. Let me tell you the little green calves from the alien cows are damn cute!

  5. ood morning!!

Well....Tina got me started..always talking about her farm...and then her farms....I said I didn't have time for any such silliness...

Well...looks like I have time for such silliness. I have 2 farms in Farmville...2 in Farmtown...I have 2 islands in Paradise Island and 2 Islands at Tiki Farms.

It is not only relaxing....but you can express yourself...the farms or islands are like a blank canvas to me that I can try and make beautiful......but at times the money becomes paramount and you kick aside the pretty for planting space....lol

Farmville has the best animation over Farmtown and the most vibrant colors so I prefer it....and its easier to operate.....the islands are all good.....

And of course I love competing with Tina....but if I get ahead of her she mysteriously loses interest in that game so I have been letting her have the opportunity to get ahead of me......shhhhhhh!

Right now my FarmTown farm is a front for a cocaine smuggling operation with the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel....I used to operate a whorehouse out of there but this is much more lucrative...
If you look closely on any given day you might see my plane or helicopter and the 100 pound white backs stacked in the trees....

I have neighbors on my farms from Verona, Italy and Turkey....people that you hire at the marketplace in FarmTown to plow and harvest for you always want to talk....with questions like...where ya from...how you durrin'....and that sort of thing......but I have had a long standing policy regarding not speaking with the help....when you do that...they think they are your friend...one thing leads to another and before you know it they are using the name brand toilet tissue......

Oh my! Look at the time! I think my 10 peacocks are ready.....SYKE!!!

Thank you for a delightful and informative story today Dianne.....

  6. ood morning to you to Deedee! I see you were in such a hurry to go check your Island you dropped the g there.

PS Stealing, or borrowing as I see it in my mind, from Deedee, Shirley and my friend Angel has become quite the morning challenge for me. These women do not like to share! I think of myself as the Island Robinhood freeing food for the masses. I even cook it for them. I tell you when I score off of their islands I am in a good mood all day!

  7. Oh, boy! We all have our online gaming stories, don't we? Bebbi managed to get me to sign up for FB without realizing it. Then to be nice, I joined her mafia. Then the gifts started. Some associates saw what I was doing and Bob's your uncle, we now collectively have 4 mafias.

LynnD, pls talk to someone about your computer before spending any money. If you are running on a 32-bit machine, RAM might not be your magic bullet. Try giving your PC a tune-up first. You can do it for free.

  8. Good Morning Hooters!

    congrats on 1st tina~

Dianne- I am NOT a farmer. Nor do I have an aquarium, or play Mafia Wars or anything else. Nope, not going to get sucked in.... I'm pretty sure I could easily turn it into an obsession, so not going to start!

Hope everyone has a great day.

    ReplyDelete
  9. LOL! Congrats and Kudos to all you FB farmers, foot soldiers in Mafia Wars, etc. etc.

But must of all... Congrats and Kudos to FB for allowing me to block all of your announcements!

    ReplyDelete
  10. My goal with Island Paradise is to have enough room to write bad words in my field.

    ReplyDelete
  11. lol at Whabbear.....

the pop ups wanting you to announce and share everything are tedious......

and the pop ups on Tiki island awful....

when you begin planting...a pop up tells you..."You are planting your very first Pineapple"....maybe the first one in the last 5 minutes....then one for "send gifts" ...then "give the gift of hope"....then "you helped your neighbor"....

and when you get thru all of them you don't have whatever you were doing so you begin again.......

BTW Bob-O.....do you not have a secret farm where you use all those gifts I have sent???

  12. Tina, see what you have started!
now that we are all addicted she abandons us! She has tried to lure me onto her sicko hospital and I almost took the bait! Whew, that was close!

Fun blog Diane! I got on FB out of curiosity.I had no intentions of using it much. I was using Myspace.
I found a lot of my nieces & nephews from around the U.S. in FB, and a few old school mates. When my Owl's nesters started showing up, well that sealed my fate lol!
I would write more, but I think someone is stealing from my Island...

  13. btw, I LMA off at Dee Dee,Zona, LynnD bonnachchi & Whabby's comments!

Goldie, hang in there, don't go to the dark side lol!!

  14. Good Morning OWLS - Well DIANNE, I will try it. I haven't spent as much time on the computer as of late.

I hope that all of you who have been on the wounded and sick list are mending.

  15. Yea, Lani is already on FB as of today. Look how good this blog was to convert a person. I think FB should pay me some bucks for helping their site.

I am off to the play Legally Blond..the Musical. I am not feeling really up to going tonight as still in some pain but will probably be fine once I get cleaned up and out.

Thanks for the comments on the blog today..and BTW DEEDEE, I am one of those people that talk and want to know where people are from, what time it is in their country, how the weather is, etc. Sometimes tho' I am the hired help and they still talk to me and even let me not only use their toilet paper but even THEIR toilet!

    Off to the shower

    ReplyDelete
  16. Dianne, take some drugs before you go to your play!

The people who try to chat me up on FB (Owls excepted) drive me nuts. The others who use the accounts also hate it. We turn the chat option to "offline". Antisocial? Maybe. Preserving sanity? Most certainly.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Welcome to the dark side Lani! :)

Hmmm I don't go to the market place as it makes me feel creepy. Don't know why but it does. Then I have to hire these people with real weirdo names. I think one was Miss Jiggly come on! Are you farming or working for Deedee? I did not hire that person. I bet she doesn't even wear a shirt with her overalls.

I have to head off to another meeting tonight. Geez I hate meetings. See you all later.

  18. Tina Congrats on first! I had no idea there were two places, Farmville and Farmtown. What's the dif?

Zona You're farming and cooking? That sounds like a lot of work, i.e., stressful, even if it is pretend. You probably need the island so you can get away from it all but then it sounds like you get stolen from there, so more stress. And the fun part is...?

LynnD Good thing you have a hospital so you can get treated for the nervous breakdown from all the farming stress. LOL @ your flowering vagina!

DeeDee LOL @ your pretend illegal activities on a pretend farm.

Bonach Do you farm, too, or does Mafia Wars and islands keep you too busy?

Goldie Ah, I see you are resisting along with me.

Bear Are you plowing any fields?

Mary LOL @ resisting to go into Tina's sicko hospital.

    Lani Uh, oh. You succumbed!

Dianne Great blog! Thanks for writing it. I'm still resisting but who knows? Maybe I'll see how Lani does with it, first. You know, like how they send a canary into the mine first to make sure the air is safe to breathe. LOL

  19. J/Lin, I did farm for a bit, but I abandoned it. The clients I travel with love Mafia Wars, so that's our main entertainment during downtime. I think Tina & DeeDee got me into Island Paradise and just today, LynnD showed me how to cook there.

I am grateful for this entertainment because if the guys are playing online games, they're probably not out drinking. That in my book, is a plus.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bonach Good point about keeping the guys in and entertained. There's lots of worse things.

  21. Dianne....

  41. Happy Thursday Owls.

Dianne, I remember when you said you would NEVER farm. Never say never! Chad told me if I started a farm, it would be like crack and I would get addicted. I hate it when he is right.

Zona, How sweet of Mr. Z to harvest your crops.

Lynn, It's all about Freud. LOL

Dianne2, I saw Legally Blonde on the stage and I wasn't too impressed.

Carol, Do you have you family farming with you?

I need to get 23 Valentine cards made by tomorrow. My Uncle and his partner are coming to visit tomorrow night and will be here until Tuesday when I have to hand them out at my sorority meeting, so I better get cracking...that reminds me, I need to harvest my farm.

Good night Owls, and happy farming!

  45. TINA - So not a farmer!! I did try it just so you would have another neighbor, but seriously within minutes I had the same sense of dread that I had when I was a child and was "forced" to work in our garden!! I also spent several summers in my early teens detasseling corn.....that is enough farming for me for the rest of my life....SERIOUSLY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. ZONA - Durian tree?!!? I love the Travel Channels Andrew Zimmern....and that is the one thing that even he does not like. He has equated the flavor to sour, rancid socks!!!
