Timeless

Yes, American Idol is back, and yes I have finally caught up and have been watching. What struck me this week was contestant Tim Urban, singing the classic "Hallelujah". It might not be the best version I have ever heard, but I think it's pretty good for a young man who was not even a thought when this song was written. It is a hard song to interpret, we here on the blog had a discussion about it when I posted KD Lang's version. And yet when I watched his performance I felt as if he understood it, his face showed the feelings, and if one can sing the meaning of a song, I think they have it figured out.

A song that has no time, it gives each person a different reason to mean something. I am sure it will go on for years. What a accomplishment for Leonard Cohen, I wonder back in 1984 when he wrote it, if he ever thought the song would be sung for years and by many.

Hope you enjoy as I did.

I am having a problem with the vid loading
sometimes it's there and sometimes not
so,
If the vid does not work click here
and in the vid bar which is under the main vid
look for Tim Urban
I think its the 7th vid

More on Leonard Cohen

  2. Morning glories!

Whohoo Mo is hot in all of her glorious beauty!

I love this song! I don't care who sings it as it is just a fabulous song to ponder and listen too! :)

Well I lost an hour this morning. I woke up and forgot about freaking daylight savings. What a crock. So I have to finish on FB and then get some housework done as we are supposed to meet one of Mr. Lynn D's sisters for dinner she is here from Utah.

Mo I am very sorry about your co-worker. It is always stunning when someone so young dies. Alway hard to take in as it makes us face our own mortality. (((Hugs)))

  6. Congrats on first MO!! Prettiest of them all today. :) Hope you're fog is lifting a little.

Carol: I love this song and he did a great job with it. I think he's going to be a surprise contender in all this if he keeps performing like that. I got up at 8 a.m. which is now 9 a.m. and then went back to bed and slept till just a little bit ago~! # of steps today: 2. haha..but I am heading to the gym ASAP to fix that problem.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Good morning to Lynn and to Sacbarb too. BBL, dudettes.

  7. Carol, I love this song and I think this young man did a good job with it. I remember when Jason Castro sang it on Idol and I loved his version, too. BTW, did you see Jason Castro sing 'Over the Rainbow' for the Jason and Molly Bachelor Wedding? I rained like crazy and there was a beautiful rainbow.

  8. Good Afternoon Hooters! Yup, its afternoon here and I just got up! I think the trip and getting everything back in order and caught up finally did me in... :)

MO- I am so sorry about your co-worker. What a shock, and it proves it can be any of us at anytime. It is always so hard to believe these things can happen to the young.

Mary- I will put them on facebook when I figure out my new camera and how to download them... :) I apparently have to install some software on my 'puter first.

Zona` thanks for keeping the light on. It helps me find my way home to you all.

Carol- JBJ sang "Hallelujha" during the concert! It was simply the best song of the night and a beautiful rendition that brought the house down!! So, hearing it on American Idol a few days later, I don't think I was able to appreciate it as much. I think he did a good job of it, but all I could think about was Jon singing it....swoon...

Carol- hope that you are hanging in there with all the weather chaos in the Northeast.

I am getting very excited about our May 1st meeting and I think we need to get on an all out campaign to get as many as possible there!

We are going to attempt to take Pepper for a walk today. Bought her a harness so there is nothing around her neck. Did I tell you we picked her up from the kennel (which is excellant and at a Vet clinic) and she had kennel cough?

We ended up going to the emergency vet at 10:30 that night because she sounded so awful! They told us to keep her isolated, no collar on, and quiet for a few days. Pepper??? She is in the dictionary for exuberance!! Thankfully,(for her) She has gotten lots of doggie ice cream for her sore throat and the vet told us yesterday(thankfully for us) that she is on the mend and her lungs are clear...:)

Even though she has her shot for that, and the kennel requires all dogs to get the shot- there is a strain going around that seems to be running rampant in the area. OY

Well, I guess enough of my novella- I am off to the shower to get my day started.. Hope everyone has a great day!!

  9. CAROL: I love this song too. I am behind on my Idol and haven't seen it yet. there have just been so many shows. I am also behind on my amazing Race and tonight starts Apprentice.

SACBARB: I loved jason singing that for the wedding and I loved the wedding...what did you think? It made me start liking the bride and groom again (I had been a bit miffed with them) and loved seeing all the other previous couples, etc. I think you and I could share a TV as we watch many of the same shows...even the same soap!!

MO: Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your co-worker. It is horrible and I am sending out big hugs to you and your other co-workers.

GOLDIE: Nothing like a good sleep. You are in charge of getting BEAR to Chicago...not too much pressure, right?

LYNN: Well, I did remember the time change and went to bed really really late and had to get up to make a snack for the StPats party we are going to today. I have been on the actual run since Friday night as we have out of town cousins in town and have been having lots of fun with them.

NOTICE: I hate to burst anyone on this blog's bubble but my daughter and DIL went to to JBJ on Monday night (more recently than all of you) and THEY TELL ME....HE sang to them and looked at them and he is THEIR boyfriend. I didn't want to start a fight but my kids don't fib......

Ok, off to get my wings out of the oven and shower and leave.....no time to proof read so sorry ahead of time

SHIRLEY: It was so nice to see you posting yesterday...I miss y ou.

  10. Sacbarb & Dianne: I enjoyed watching the wedding too and especially enjoyed seeing Trista and Ryan and their lovely family. They looked so happy and it was nice to see that. I hope Molly and Jason do good too. That was a weird ending to that season but it is good it worked out. I really loved Jason Castro's performance too. He is so good.

    Good morning Dianne and goldie!

Everyone already knows I am excited about Chicago too..haha.., so I won't go there again.

I am really heading to work out now..so I will be back later..gaters.

  11. Carol I thought this was a pretty good version of the song. Plus he wasn't too bad to look at!! A little young, but that's ok!

    Maureen congrats on 1st!

I only did 3 tax returns here at home this weekend. Now I have to go to bed so I can got to the office tomorrow and do some more!

(((((((HUGS))))))) to everyone who is hurting physically or emotionally. Just because I'm not here every day doesn't mean I don't think about you all and care about you. Nighty night!!

  12. I've been a bad Owl... Couldn't help it, really. Mo, so good to hear from you.

I have two pieces of news; the first might have you all throwing confetti, but I've committed to a job that will have me traveling between late April thru (hopefully only) May 10. The closest I'll be to Chicago is Boston and New York.

The second piece of news is something bad for all of you. There has been a virus called Koobface (an anagram for Facebook) that attacks users of social networking sites. That's prety much all of us. Lust_Lin, you're not immune because it's on MySpace as well. It's transmitted via video, those cutsie gift apps and even messaging between users. Then, unbeknownst to you, it infects your friends as well. The virus keeps mutating, meaning every time we find a cure, there's a new strain.

I suspect LynnD, Zona and Just_Lin are infected. There are many sites out there that will happily charge you to remove your "current" infection, but you'll have to keep coming back.

I have been fighting this virus, which is almost impermeable to the strongest anti-malware tools we professionals can get our hands on, but haven't always been successful.

I know this is off-topic, but please, take some time to copy your important files to an external HD, Flash drive or DV/CD. That way, if all else fails and you have to wipe your drive, you only have to re-install your apps and copy your files back (assuming you've scanned them first).

If you're running on a PC, install Microsoft Security Essentials ASAP. Just type it into a search engine and it'll pop up. Not a guaranteed defense, but better than nothing. We are working night and day to kill this thing, but for now, be so careful on FB and MS. Ignore those page suggestions and "gifts" that have nothing to do with the gaming you're involved in.

MAC users are okay. My phone number and personal e-mail address has been distributed to several Owls; it's no secret, but not for publication here. I can send you some files that will possibly cure your PCs, but I can't remotely log in to everyone's PC to fix the problem personally.

So after that somber news, I have a meeting with a possible long term client tomorrow and will be having a dinner/brainstorming session later to talk about internet security. I look forward to an evening of Geek Speak.

    Have an enjoyable evening, all!

P.S. Thanks for all the FB messages about my recent "hurts". Let me assure everyone, I'm doing just great.

  13. Shirley, about that tax crap. Mine are intensely complicated. Fill out form A, do worksheet J, Take the total from line 17 on form K (which hasn't even been filled out yet), then refer to page 13. Page 13 tells you to refer to page 42.

I think the yahoos who come up with the tax code should be required to do their own taxes. Then be audited by the IRS, which is the only entity where you're guilty until you prove you're innocent.

How do you do this? Does it drive you nuts? Would you like to see our lawmakers attempt to fill out their own taxes?

  14. Sacbarb.. I saw Jason Castro as well, and he sang is beautifully, It was good to see him again..

and OMG, that rain.. they should have had a canopy were they exchanged their vows.. they knew is was going to ran, so I don't think putting up a canopy would have been such a big deal.. Unless they were looking for a dramatic effect, which I guess they got, but personally I thought it was silly...

  22. Thanks Carol, about the thing that wasn't fixable. I felt terrible about it yesterday but my mom was very kind about it. She even put a positive spin on it. She's so incredible.

Here's what happened: I ordered 2500 business cards for my mother and I got her ADDRESS WRONG!!!!! I didn't even realize it when I put the order in. I didn't know it until I proudly handed her the 2500 cards..and she pointed it out. OH, man..NOT FIXABLE.

So, my mother sweet as she is said it must be a way to protect her because she really didn't want her correct address on the business cards anyway. She is just too sweet for words. But, it didn't help because I felt terrible that I messed it up. I hate it when I make stupid mistakes.

She's going to put stickers over the ones that she hands out to people she knows. And, the worst part is, did I say it 2500 CARDS! Good lord.

I am in a better place about it today. And, as I said, after reading Mo's troubles with her coworker passing, that reminded me that really an address wrong on a business card is not worth getting depressed about.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really appreciated it.

  23. I don't do my own taxes, I have a company do them. Because I have a corporation, its quite complicated, geez I would not even know where to start..

I usually don't send the stuff off to the accountant till end of this month, which reminds me I must get everything together, most is in the computer already on a disk.

  24. Carol: Sorry to hear about the flooding and the power outages. I am glad to hear that you still have your power. I hope the worst of it is gone and there are some sunny days ahead for you.

  28. Carol: ..Yikes is right. I am hoping I can look back and laugh in a month or two. Maybe she will hand them out quick..although, when I told her I got such a deal on so many, she said, "This will probably be the last order of cards I will ever need".... sheesh. I am a doofus for brains. What bothers me the most is how the heck I just pulled another street name out of my brain and didn't even see that I had done it. No CLUE.

  29. Carol, I finally got to watch the vid. Loved it! For a young man he did a good job making it his own. It is a good song to go to bed with. I need to zone out. I went to bed to late and got up to early. The time change didn't help!
    Have a great week everyone!!
