~ Hallelujah ~

by Tina~in_ut

Easter came and went and I didn't get my Hallelujah song.  I love the way Rufus sings it.  Enjoy~  (and this in no way excuses you from going to church!) :D

  2. Of course Rufus is one of my favorite artists....so immensely talented....the album that he did this song on went double platinum...

And I love the way the chord progression follows the lyric "it goes like this.. the fourth..the fifth...the minor fall...and the major lift"....

A great Leonard Cohen song performed by the best possible artist...

This is a quote from Rufus in a recent article taunting homophobe rapper "50 Cent".....

Wainwright adds that he thinks it's cynical to advise musicians, as Steven Merritt apparently did, not to come out:

"I don't have the energy or the emotional repression to bottle that stuff up. It's true, it's tougher careerwise if you come out, but this is a human-rights issue, and it's important to keep putting dents in it. It's about two teenagers being beheaded for holding hands in Saudi Arabia. It's bigger than someone's music career."

  3. more Rufus.....

Rufus Wainwright, who in the past has said that he is "not a huge gay marriage supporter," has had a change of heart.

According to Starpulse, the singer recently had this to say about marriage equality and his partner of five years, German theater producer Jorn Weisbrod.

"I have been with Jorn for five years and he's the light of my life. He's my inspiration, support and he's good in the sack, too! But I am very aware of living in the U.S., of the conundrum that you can't marry your gay partner and give him citizenship. He has to apply for a green card and he may or may not get accepted, which is annoying when you're in a committed relationship. If we were straight, we could get married and he'd get his American passport and it would make a lot of sense."

"I wasn't a huge gay marriage supporter before I met Jorn because I love the whole old-school promiscuous Oscar Wilde freak show of what 'being gay' once was. But since meeting Jorn that all changed."

  7. Good Morning!

TINA: This is such a great song..I really like the way Rufus Wainwright sings it..although I do like the k.d. lang version better. The way she sang it at the Olympics was just breathtaking. Great choice today TINA, thank you!

Congrats at prettiest and FIRST today..you are looking a little pale though.. ;)

    MO: Loved your QOTD!! :D

DEEDEE: I love 'Rufus Does Judy at Carnagie Hall' and the 'Prima
Donna' special was excellent as well.

I'm off to bed..I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

  11. Good Morning Hooters!

    Hail to the pretty one!

LOVE Rufus and this song. However, I have to say, that nothing compares to when JBJ sang it in concert. Brought goosebumps. Can't wait to hear him sing it again in July!

I do think that Rufus and JBJ are the only 2 versions that I really, really like. Many have tried, not many have succeeded.

I hope you all have a nice Sunday. The sun is shining and there is yard work to do...:(
    I hate yardwork!

  12. Good morning and Happy Sunday! I love that song..glad you played it Tina. Nice choice. And congrats on #1. :)

    Tina, Are you working today?

  13. Morning Glories!

Tina Gorgeous! The song that is! :) Rufus does sing this beautifully but I agree with Zona I love the KD Lang version.

PS I do not attend church, probably never will as I don't really think that is where God resides. He is everywhere. Just look out my window this morning, beautiful sunshine, green shooting up everywhere and a chorus of bird song. That is God at his best!

  14. Zona! do you remember where I put your voodoo doll? I think you are about to get a really "twisted" feeling in your left leg....

you still have time to come to your senses about which is the best rendition of Hallelujah.....

Tina & Maureen....I am neither break dancing or squatting to poop (how vulgar)....I am merely assisting a mescan man who chose not to park in the center of the clearly marked parking space at the Handi-Stop where I go for my lotto and diet cokes.....

It drives me crazy when the cars are not lined up STRAIGHT!"

  15. lmbo DeeDee~ i can't imagine you wanting things straight~ lol~

Zona! YOU like KD Lang's wersion better? OUT!!! NOW!!!!

    You, too, Lynn!!~

  16. Hello, Ladies (and I use that trm loosely). Well, rats! I am missing so much by being on this phone instead of my computer.

Tina. It sounds like you have lost the salad on your head and I say "good for you". It would have been starting to get limp and slimey.
Maureen. You are most welcome. If you have any extra, pass them around.

  17. DeeDee. Did you change you avatar? I am trying to imagine what it is if it looks like someone pooping, someone break dancing, and someone wrining someone's neck. Oh, it must be Kate Gosslin dancing! LOL

    Mary. Bon Voyage! I'm jealous.

  18. Zona. I love the kd Lang version and I can't listen to this Rufus version right now but it will be hard to beat kd's.

Goldie. You might be a little prejudiced in favor of the JBJ version since he sang it directly to you and only you. :)

  19. LynnD. I think I have the same view out my window that you do. :)

Bebbi. Yes, 13 more days. Woo hoo!

  20. Hey! Are we still marching because I got 25. If I'm not going to win time with Iteach's hubby, I would at least like a tiara, bouquet of roses and a sash. TYVM. Humpht.

  21. Tina. Are you still turning yourself on? If so, would you please go over to the corner to do that? Thanks.

  23. Hallelujah Owls.

Tina, I really like this song, and I have heard several versions which are good, however I have to agree with Goldie...JBJ does it the best.

I just got home from the Cheesecake Factory where we celebrated my grandson's 19th birthday. It seems like just yesterday that he was three. Where does the time go?

Mary, Have a great time on your cruise.

Waving a wing also to DeeDee, Mo, Zona, Goldie, Bebbi, J/L, LynnD, Carol, and all the other Owls.

I have some farming to do so I will be back later. I hope you are all having a good day. ♥

  24. Hi LynnD, Tina, Mo, DeeDee, Just Lin, Zona, Sacbarb, Goldie I hope that you all had a great Sunday. I really did although I slept till NOON. I was so tired after my long day yesterday. We didn't get home until midnight and I didn't get to sleep until 2:00 a.m.

I am so excited about the Chicago trip and can't believe it will be in 12 days! OMG..amazing! I just want to say that I am really very shy and quiet at first, so don't anyone get surprised by it. I am that way until I get to know people. Although, I do feel that I know you all pretty well, there is nothing like that face to face meeting I am sure. :)

Okay..well, I didn't get in many steps today..only 10,707 so I am thinking I need to go and walk. I will be back in a bit.

Also, I uploaded a whole slew of videos from Thunder Over Louisville and put up some pictures too. It was a great day and was really fun too.

I talked about all of you today. I was telling the people at the van club that I was so excited about seeing all the "man parts" next weekend! They think I am funny..but I am sure I will see a whole bunch...LOL. So fun. I will take pictures of the fun, but not of that part of the fun.

  25. Well today didn't turn out like I planned! I twisted my left knee getting out of bed a few hours ago. I didn't see Nikki laying right next to the bed..stepped down..she jumped up..my knee went to the right..and crash..down I went. Anyone that has bad knees..and I know there are a few of us on here that do..knows that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when you feel that pain again. I've been limping around for most of the afternoon..but I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and say I don't think NIKKI hurt my knee that badly. ;) Thank goodness!

    MO: No Hugh. :(

    DEEDEE: !!!! Ok..now I'm afeared..that's just freaky..put down that doll..please? ;)

    TINA: LOL..I do! :D

BEBBI: Man parts? Ok..what did I miss?

SACBARB: Happy Birthday to your grandson!! :)

J/LIN: Maybe BARB will let you wear her tiara.. ;)

LYNN: I don't go to church very often..and that's an understatement..but I like the ceremony of it when I do..I agree though..God is everywhere.. :)

GOLDIE: I've never heard JBJ sing this song..I'll come do your yardwork..if you let me tag along in July... ;)

  26. Zona..I am going to a "Van In" next weekend and the theme is Scottish. So, all the men are going to be wearing kilts and I have it on good authority they will all (or most) be going "commando" under them..hehe.

So, I was telling them today how I was so excited about seeing all the man parts and how I told everyone on my blog group about it too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Zona: And, I am so sorry to hear about your knee. :/ I do know exactly that sinking feeling..and also, the joy when you realize that it may not be as bad as what it could have been. Take it easy. I do hope you take Glucosamine/Chondroitin. That really helps.

  28. Hi Everyone>>>this week has completely gotten away from me and I keep forgetting my darn phone at home when I go places. I don't know what is with me~!

SACBARB: Where does the time go with our grandkids. My oldest reminds me so often that she is a "pre-teen". I went with the group yesterday to get dresses for a wedding the two girls and a cousin are going to be in. They will be jr bridesmaids. When they got to the wedding store the saleslady started bringing little girl dresses over.....they would not hear of that as they are 9, 9 and 11. They looked so cute trying on the dresses. I will post the pictures on FB.,

ZONA: I am really sorry about the fall. Ohhh I can feel the pain in my knee for you already. We are so protective of our legs, knees and feet aren't we?

TINA: I love that song and glad y ou posted it today as I did miss it on Easter. Oh yea, you are kind of pretty today...better than with that big head you had and DEEDEE...you are lovely.

TINA, you are going to be first every day now with going to work so early...not fair.
