by Lynn D
As many of you know, I recently took a mini vacation to the beach. Mr. Lynn D and I loaded up and headed out after I had a melt down and insisted we were going or I was going alone. This was a must and I am actually feeling the pull again. I really really really want to sell everything and move to Westport, Washington. I have always loved it and feel it calling me so strongly that it is driving me a bit crazy.
This part of Washington is called the Cranberry Coast, as there are several bogs and Ocean Spray has a huge facility there. I have included a picture if Tina can upload it of two huge wind machines, right below is an actual Cranberry bog. Contrary to what Farmtown would have us all believe they do not grow on freaking trees. They grow in bogs just like the commercials. Anyway, back to the beach.
I love this little town because it is also a fishing port and it is just a little village really. Off season, the population is about 2500 people. They run charters in season and have contests for biggest fishes caught. The boats come in and they weigh the catches to make it official. Once a month, someone wins money prizes for their catch. When we were there, they were fishing for Tuna, Salmon and Halibut. You can also go down and buy fresh fish right off of the boats to take home.
If we travel down this coast you go through several little towns. They are all located on this 18 mile arm of beach and land and it is a beautiful drive. You will see little shops, great restaurants, and beach houses of all makes and designs. Campsites and state parks, wildlife all around and the sound of the beach follows wherever you go. There is also a new Winery, trying to figure out exactly what grapes will grow here!( lol) I am planning on checking it out next time we go down there. You can also go to a fabulous Oyster Farm called Brady's Oysters. The man that owns it basically saved the oyster population here. It was declining for many reasons and he stepped in and cleaned the area up and brought them back. At the other end of the 18 mile arm is an area where they crab. You can see the crab pots all over and at the very end a great place to buy fresh crabs to take home or back to your camp site.
What I love about it is that it has not been over developed or taken over by huge condo's and other crap. No fast food restaurants can be seen here. It still retains the spirit of a real get away place for me. I know we all have these little pockets of calm. Where is your favorite place to escape to?
Good morning!!
ReplyDeleteLYNN - Love your little piece of heaven!! My little escape recently has been a little town....Amboy ♥ I only went for a night, but it was good to get away from all the madness here with getting ready for school!!
ReplyDeleteJust got my second load in the dryer. I think I'm going to go see Eat, Pray, Love again!! And then head over and visit with my Aunt Jane.....ahhhhhhh love my days off now that everyone is back in school ♥
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteJodi is the prettiest, most gorgeous today! Yay!
Loved the video Lynn! I love the beach. My favorite place to go is Mendocino. There is a place called Little River Inn that I love to stay.
I have been working lots of extra days, looking forward to the long weekend and sleeping in.
Have a nice day and a safe holiday weekend!
Good Morning!!
ReplyDeleteI love this!! Makes me want to grab my board and head for the northwest coast!!
Seriously though...I have always wanted my own place on the coast in a place like this.....empty beaches....I have spent time on the Oregon coast but not Washington...I am sure I would love it....I might even be able to "let go" enough to even do the $3 shoes.....and just dress casually for the first time in my life and not feel that I am on display....leave the eyelashes on the bedpost....ahhh...freedom.....
Years ago...I went motor yachting on a 3 hour tour...but the weather started getting rough...
the tiny ship was tossed...
if not for the courage of the fearless crew....the boat would
have been lost...
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle...
with Gilligan...the sk....
oh wait...wasn't that a tv show...
please disregard that last tidbit...I have a pill to take...I'll be back later...
Carry on!
Hello Jodi, EBJ and DeeDee!
ReplyDeleteLynnD; one of those pics... is it rocks or an aerial view of a town? I can't tell. Regardless, what a beautiful blog. So glad you were able to get away.
Favorite places. Gee, I don't know. I think my new favorite place will be a little village called Sanary Sur Mer. I've a recent reason for that.
DeeDee; Really? Surfing on an ironing board? And you think I'M the crazy one?
WHY?? Why Sanary Sur Mer? What makes it special...other than the obvious...you know...French Riviera...close to Cannes......
ReplyDeleteWhat happened there? What did you do? What was his/her name?
I never said you are CRAZY...I said SCARY..!
qu'avez-vous fait?
Ah, DeeDee... I've only gotten to know one of Sanary's sons. She seems to produce some wonderful people, from my experience so far. I have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday Owls.
ReplyDeleteLynn, Beautiful blog and I, too, could listen to the surf all day and be very happy. This place looks a lot like Bandon, OR, where I went a few weeks ago. There are also very few people on the beach there and the views from some of the bluffs are spectacular.
My friends actually live in Eugene, but they have a house in this little beach town and eventually want to move there on a full time basis. They do a lot of crabbing and can also buy fish from the boats when they come in with their catch. They can even get their fish and crab cleaned right on the dock for $.50 each.
P.S. Love the shoes.
Jodi, Hello my pretty! Enjoy your day off. Sharon and I are going to see that movie on Wednesday. I hope it stays close to the book, 'cause I loved the book.
ReplyDeleteEBJ, I love Mendocino too, but it can get crowded.
Waving to DeeDee, Bonachichi, and all the Owls. I am off to a card class. BBL
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteJodi you are some damn pretty Hot!
Hope you all enjoy the trip to the beach today. Makes me want to load the car up and head there right now!
Deedee you can totally let loose here. It is mega casual and no one cares what you look like. You will want your cheapest shoes between the sand and surf they just get ruined and who cares as long as they are comfortable. You see everything from wet suits to Carhart here. The best part is you rarely see a bikini! Our beaches stay a bit chilly even in the summer.
Bon and EBJ I would be happy at any beach! imjs
Moody Broody beaches my favorite.
Waving at Sacbarb! Oregon beaches are very similar to ours. Tho I think they get better weather than we do most of the time.
ReplyDeleteYou will like eat, pray, love. I read the book and was not disappointed at all. Actually I think I got more out of the movie this time. Rarely does that happen as I usually favor the book. Have fun!
LYNN: It looks great and so peaceful. I can't find any oceans in Denver.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting ready to leave so hope you al have a great weekend.
Dianne....all my gay boys called Cheeseman Park "The Beach" in the summer....
ReplyDeleteNever a dull moment at "The Beach!!'
LYNN: Oh how I wish we had beaches here in AZ..we have plenty of sand..just not the beautiful ocean waves. I loved the video..and your shoes! I can see why you would want to live there..I would too! Great vid LYNN, thank you!
ReplyDeleteJODI: Good afternoon pretty lady who never takes a bad picture..you look ravishing today! Enjoy your JODI day! :D
EBJ: Sweet dreams! Try to get a little swimming in this weekend too.. ;)
DEEDEE: You would have been Ginger..right? ;)
BONACHI: Before I google..where is Sanary Sur Mer?
SACBARB: Now I know what to get you for your birthday!! :D
DIANNE: Have a safe trip..but most of all have fun..and try not to think about the Broncos losing and the RAIDERS winning.. ;)
SHIRLEY: Has it cooled down there yet? I hope so! It's hell for it to be that hot if you're not accustomed to it.
It's going to be 112 today and then 110 Sat and Sunday. We are supposed to drop down into the 90's next week..lows in the 70's!! WOOHOO!! I can see a light at the end of this very long tunnel!
Have a wonderful day everyone!! I've got to go pay bills..YUCK!
Good afternoon Jodi (congrats on 1st), EBJ, DeeDee, Bonachichi, SacBarb, Lynn D, Dianne and Zona!
ReplyDeleteLoved the video Lynn D! Other than the sound of babies and kids laughing, there is nothing better than the sounds of the ocean! The roar of the surf, the roll of the waves, the smell in the air...you can't beat that! I find it almost hypnotic. Sounds like you have found yourself a great getaway town. You would love Nova Scotia!
Zona to answer your question...yes it is still effing hot!!!!!!! After midnight tonight we are suppose to start getting rain and wind from Hurricane Earl. Once he leaves town it is SUPPOSE to be cooler on Sunday. We'll see about that! I think half of my ass has melted into the fabric of my computer chair and the other half has melted into the fabric of my TV chair!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm Shirley I think that would make you assless. :) I would love Nova Scotia! It looks like my beaches from what I have seen!
ReplyDeleteWaving at Zona. I would rather have the beach and the sand. Sand by itself....no.

ReplyDeleteLYNN: Maybe it's just the puns lately..but the "Waving at Zona" when your blog is about the beach just cracked me up!
LynnD~ I have a lot of places I love to escape to~ At home, I'll go to a fast food place with my book~ There is a fabulous place I love to camp. It's called Tony Groves. It's breathtaking! I love to go to Hawaii, and not necessarily to the beach! I love anything and everything about Rome and Paris. The Greek islands are also fabulous and there it IS all about the beaches. I think really anyplace I can take my kids and enjoy them is fun! (did I just say that?!)
ReplyDeleteJodi~ Congrats on pretty~
ReplyDeleteDeeDee~ I want to see you in $3 shoes and no eyelashes! I'll make you a deal. I'll wear the $900 choo's and eyelashes and you wear the $3 and have a nekkid eye~ Hey....it'll be like trading~ :D
Bonachichi~ I must make my way down to the south of France~ and you must come home~ :D
Tina, I'm coming. In a few hours. DeeDee neglected to inform her pilot that I'd be needing him, so now I'm up and ready, but I have to wait. DeeDee, this will go on your permanent record!
ReplyDeleteZona, Sanary Sur Mer is a small coastal town in France.
Good evening everyone!
ReplyDeleteJodi, you are 3x bootiful today!
LynnD,I am another surf lover. I could sit and stare at the waves for hours!
Here in Mich I have a fave.peaceful place. It is way in the back of our property. I live where to rivers meet. If I walk to the back field I follow the creek by our house. It feeds into one of the rivers. I sit on top of a high embankment and watch the creek run into the river and listen to the gurgle sounds. It is heaven to me!
In Paris I loved sitting on the banks of the Seine River and watch the ferry boats go by.Just sitting at an art museum and staring at all the amazing paintings gives me a charge no man ever could lol!
Tina, I will be staying at one of those Greek Islands soon so I will know 'bout that :)
EBJ, start the relaxing now it's Friday!
DeeDee, somehow I can't visualize you in $3 shoes! They just would not go with that diamond studded tiara!
Bonachi, Are you heading back to the states soon? My Niece will be teaching English in the south of France. She will be living somewhere near Nice. She still hasn't found a place to stay yet and she starts in October!
SacBarb, I haven't seen it yet. I too hope it stays close to the book. Let me know what you think.
Zona, we finally cooled down. I didn't mind the heat, but the humidity was a killer!
Shirley, how close is you home to the shore & the soon-to-be-visiting Earl?
Diane, Have a super stress free week end! That is an order!!
Hi Mary! My town is right on the coast. The eye of Earl is suppose to hit Northeast of us on the Bay of Funday side of the province. It is still a catagory 1 but is suppose to loose strength once it hits land. It's a fast moving storm too. That's good. Thanks for asking.
ReplyDeleteWait Shirley. The eye of Earl? What about the rest of him? It's not like he can just huck his eye over your way, is it?
ReplyDeleteMary, I stayed 2 weeks longer than expected and you never came. We'll have to try again!
Good evening feathered friends!!
ReplyDeleteLYNN..couldn't watch the vid, but the pics are glorious! I love the ocean, too.
The place I would most love to escape to would be Venice. Not on an ocean, but the canals, especially the Grand Canal is beautiful to watch. Not to mention the Italian Stallions in theie boats and the hunky gondaliers are not to bad to watch, either! I also loved Pescara on the Italian Riviera. So peaceful.
I'm glad you had your get-a-way and I hope you can get there again soon.
SHIRLEY...I hope Earl doesn't cause you any damage and cools you off. We finally got a break in the heat. Such a difference! YAY!
Sorry I've been MIA. I spent Wednesday evening and Thursday with Sharon and Joanne. I hadn't seen her since she got home last week. I am so thrilled to say she is doing AMAZING! Walking, eating, alert and oriented. She is like a different person!
I have to work tomorrow and it is going to be a nightmare. Then I have a BBQ to go to after, so I will be MIA most of tomorrow, too
:(
Lynn..
ReplyDeleteLoved your blog.. so calming.. but I gotta tell ya, that beach is so empty, so not like the jersey shore @ the jersey shore, ppl are crammed in all over the place. I can't even imagine being on such a beach with noone around.. I loved it.. it certainly put a smile on my face.. I have not been to the beach all summer, not once.. I don't remember every skipping a summer with my jersey beach.. I miss it so.. you gave me a little piece of heaven today.. Thank You!
Oh.. and love your $3.00 sneakers!
so cute, and such a bargain..
Mo.. that is great news, she is surely a fighter..
ReplyDeleteThere was no signs of Earl here in my part of NJ, not even a drop of rain.. I was totally a no show... and thank goodness for that!
ReplyDeletenow..
He is on his way to see Shirley, I sure hope he is nice to her.. :)
Hi, HOoters!
ReplyDeleteLynnD Thank you for the vid and pics of your lovely, calm beach. It is, indeed, very serene. Our beach here has dozens and dozens of surfers out in the water. This is in spite of the fact that people saw a Great White Shark get a seal about 200 yards out just 2 days ago. Yikes! That's unusual for this local beach, but still..... I wouldn't be out there.
Mary I love listening to water in creeks and streams. Fabulous! It's soooo soothing.
Jodi Congrats on first. You are so very pretty today and every day.
Dianne Have fun! That's an order!
DeeDee Which one were you? Mary Ann or The Professor? LOL
Shirley So far, Earl hasn't been as bad as feared. I hope that holds true.
MO That's great news about Joann. Maybe the chemicals in her brain were all out of whack before.
Tina I can't imagine paying $900 for shoes. For that amount of money, they better do the walking for me.
Waving at EBJ, Bonach, Zona, SacBarb and Carol!
I guess I closed the blog down.
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams, HOoters!
