So it seems I stuck my foot in my mouth again....
I try very hard to connect with my clients as they sit in front of me. I give them eye contact, and I allow them to talk as much as they want, and when need be I intervene. Most people that come to my desk I have never met, so it is a getting to know you moment or two. Last week a Muslim women wearing a Hijab (headscarf) came into my office to book a cruise for her and husband. All went well, and we agreed on a cruise. I told her to come back the next week to pick up her documents. She came in Friday very excited for her cruise but nervous because she was going to be leaving her kids for the first time. We chatted about all the information she would need for her cruise. And then she posed a question to me.
Her...."Do they have irons in the cabin"
Me... "No sorry irons are not in the cabins"
Her... "I have to iron my Hijab"
Me...."Oh, aren't they wrinkle free"
Her... "No"
Me.. "Well there is a laundry room on board each deck has them you can iron it there and it will be good for the week"
Her... "I change mine daily"
Me... "You do"
Her..."Well yes, they have to match my outfit"
After that I truly don't remember anything else I said, cause all I kept thinking about was what I just said to her. OMG, I could have crawled under my desk. "aren't they wrinkle free" FAIL "you will be good for the week" FAIL.. why oh why did I just shut up at "wrinkle free". These questions were totally valid in my mind when I was asking them, but after replaying in my mind. OMG#2
Moral of the story.. Carol, think before you talk!
Good Moaning~
ReplyDeleteuh.....duh....if they have to be ironed...they aren't wrinkle free!~ lmbo!!!!!~ that's so funny~
ReplyDeletecarol~ I finish most everything I say with, "Did I just say that out loud?!" And janice just shakes her head and says yes~
ReplyDeleteCAROL: Oh I've done things like this too many times to even count. Sometimes I think that's how I really hurt my knee..by extricating my foot from my mouth. I'm not very limber anymore..but I always to seem to be able to accomplish this maneuver! :D
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Moaning TINA!

ReplyDeleteCarol I think you should have stopped at "No sorry irons are not in the cabins". You would have been safe, or just lay off the booze while you are working!!!!
ReplyDeleteMoaning Tina!
ReplyDeleteMorning Janice, Zona and DeeDee!
I don't know how to communicate without my foot in my mouth or my head up my arse.
ReplyDeleteGood morning to Tina, Zona and DeeDee!
Hiya, Shirley!!
ReplyDeleteDEE DEE...In my opinion, that was a very cruel post to CAROL. Whatever her opinions are, that woman needed a service and she provided it. If not CAROL then someone else would have. It's not the almighty dollar that drives her but her fairness and business ethic and the preservation of her business. And the desire to help someone, anyone, that needed it.
ReplyDeleteJust my humble opinion...
CAROL...I think we have all had those foot in mouth moments at work! I once approached a customer from behind and called "her" ma'am. When "she" turned around it was a man...with a full beard!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a young guy in our office and he forgot to schedule a visit. When the patient called he apologized and explained that it must have "fallen through HIS crack! We all heard it and we all lost it! We still laugh about it!
Morning Bonachichi and Maureen!
ReplyDeleteMaureen doo you know if the patient picked up on his comment? OMG, that's funny!!
What did the bearded man say to you?
BTW I agree with your opinion in regards to your comment to DeeDee.
SHIRLEY...I have no idea what the bearded lady said beause as soon as he turned around I burst out laughing and had to leave!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if he caught itor not...we were too busy laughing our asses off!
Thanks

ReplyDeleteDee...
ReplyDeleteYou always write what is on your mind, so now I shall do so..
I am tired of your attacks on me, I have ignored many in the past and just recently have called you out on them. You do not interact with me at all unless I write a blog, or I write a comment about my religious beliefs or such.. The happenings in this blog was completely innocent, and if you know me, you would know that. As I have told you in the past you don't know me, so stop judging me.
I can certainly sit here in judge of you, but I don't, why, because I don't know one thing about you. Actually I do know something about you. You don't like me nor do you like my family. And that is fine..
Lately each time I write a blog, I have to worry about what comments you are going to leave, and words you are going to use. It makes me feel uncomfortable. When I wrote my blogs about my nephews wedding, you were disgusted at the sight of them, and your comments proved it.
I have said over and over again about this blog, and hurtful comments, that they will not be accepted, yet I allowed you to be hurtful to me and my family...
Now I am done, from now on if I write a blog, please ignore it, if I write a comment ignore that as well and I shall do the same..
If you want to contact me privately please get my cell number from Tina...
Dee..
ReplyDeleteAnd there you go again with your hurtful words.. calling me bigot!
Opinions are certainly a right for everyone, and yes you are entitled to yours, but as you very well know your opinions towards me are hateful.. and totally unacceptable!
DEE DEE...I don't see anywhere in my post where I said you are not entitled to your opinions. Just as you are entitled to yours, I am to mine and CAROL is to hers.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is right to be so harsh to the hostess of this blog. She has given endless hours of her time to provide a place for us all to come and feel safe and she should have that same feeing of safety.
When things imploded at the other blog, it was Carol who created this. It was Carol, who wrote blogs everyday for a long time, regardless of the crap she was going thru in real life.
Carol deserves respect. And I don't think she EVER said someone can't have an opinion. It's how the opinion is expressed that can cause pain to people.
I don't want to get into a war of words with you.
Just MY opinion.
I am not a bigot or racist, but I can pretty much rest assured in my opinion that if a Martian wanted to land and move next to me, I would have a definite problem with it.
'nuff said.
CAROL...I was typing as you posted. I KNOW you and I appreciate you and your opinions (even if you are a Republican!!).
ReplyDeleteIf a Martian wanted to live next to me, I'd think it was the coolest thing that ever happened to me! Imagine, all those flying toys, mind melds and OH, maybe an ANAL PROBE!
ReplyDeleteI can always dream, I guess.
CHI CHI...OMG...you are so right! I have had my eyes (and maybe anus) opened! Martians...COME ON DOWN!
ReplyDeleteAmen Carol & MO!!
ReplyDeleteNow I am off to a super wedding!
Carol....
ReplyDeleteI apologize...I can makes excuses...but I won't...as I have shown in the past....many times I should think a lot longer before I speak....
You are wrong however about my feelings for you and your family...what I wrote in my comment about the wedding was heartfelt and true....
I have picked on you...and I have picked on Maureen....maybe its jealousy of the deep commitment of your friends here.....at any rate...it is my problem....and I can be a real bitch at times and I do apologize to both of you....
and I will promise you this....it stops here and it stops now.
It makes me feel like the bully's I have been railing against....a plea for your attention possibly? Well I got it and not in a good way...
Please accept my apology...and if I don't have positive input in the future...I won't be negative...
And I apologize to anyone here who felt insulted or hurt by my comments today...
I just starting getting better from my bug and now I have a toothache...so if it does any good....I am suffering triple for my insensitivity....
my head...
my heart...
my tooth...
I was chatting w/one of my FB friends and he typed that he was 5'3". I jokingly said he'd mistyped cuz if he was really 5'3", he'd be um, short. Then he said, "No, I really am 5'3" ".
ReplyDeleteHe has forgiven me, and we have a lot of fun together.
SO SHADDUP EVERYONE!! The name of the blog is "Foot In My Mouth"!
is licking or sucking toes the same as putting the whole foot in ur mouth?
ReplyDeleteCarol, I will admit to a small tonnage of delight in learning that you, Ms. Full-Of-Grace, committed a faux pas. Just a small tonnage, mind you, and maybe some giggles. Did you have that instant desire, the one I'm all to familiar with, to melt into the floor?
ReplyDeleteTina, you never put your foot in your mouth. It's always up someone else's arse.
ReplyDeleteCAROL - I totally feel for you. Just the other day a regular customer came into the store and I had to STOP myself from asking her if she had her baby yet. THANK GOD I took another look!! She had just had her gorgeous baby girl last week!!
ReplyDeleteCAROL & MO - (((HUGS))) to you both!! You know I love you and have been honored to spend time with BOTH of you!! I don't know if you remember, but the tears on Sunday morning in Chicago were heartfelt ♥
ReplyDeleteAfternoon Owls,
ReplyDeleteI see we have some unsettling business going on here. I am going to stay in my zen zone, here at the beach and refrain from comment.
I do however want to share the names of some children I heard a mother calling today.
Merlin, Harley and Ocean. Aren't those sweet? I swear I am not kidding. We were at the Maritime Museum and this woman called her children. Mr. Lynn D about swallowed his tongue trying not to laugh out loud. I think the little girl was Ocean not sure tho. :)
When I get home and have access to my edit program I have a sweet picture to share with you all. For now enjoy the pic in my avatar window. It is 65 degrees and gorgeous sunshine here today!
Dee...
ReplyDeleteI will accept your apology, and hope that your words are true.. I will tell ya tho, your words about being a bully rang in my hears, cause truth me told that is how I felt.. Like I was being bullied.. A person can just take so much, and then they must stand up for themselves..
This blog is for a community, every opinion counts, they just need to be handled in a adult manner. Comments don't always have to be positive a person can certainly feel negative at times, but we must chose our words well and respect each other.. The friendships I have made here is because of the respect level I have for each person.. Respect has to be earned, it is not given..
I will continue to be guarded, and hopefully in the near future I will feel differently..
Thank you for apologizing..
My nephews and their friends are over, we are chatting and just enjoying the cool weather, with some beer and wine spritzers.. That is truly was life is all about..
Good evening hooters,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite foot in the mouth moment was not something I did (and I've done a few good ones).
It was my 1st husband. We were looking for a new car, and we went to this dealership to check out a Bronco.
We found one we liked, so went in to meet the manager to talk price.
Does anyone remember "Pat" from Saturday Night Live? That was the character who looked like it could be male or female.
Well, this manager looked EXACTLY like Pat.
Funny thing was this person introduced his/herself, and had an androgynous name, I seem to remember it was Chris.
We were sitting at Chris' desk, and my ex started to ask a question, and called him/her PAT.
I almost died right there, I couldn't laugh but inside I was screaming.
My ex realized what he'd said right away but not much he could do.
Luckily Chris either didn't get it or just let it roll off.
Tomorrow is MR. EBJs birthday, so we are having a little party for him and a cousin who's visiting. She also has a birthday this coming week, so will combine and have a party for both of them.
Hope everyone had a nice Saturday. Sorry there was more conflict here today, I missed it so not sure what happened.
Peace!
DEE DEE...thank you for your apology and I accept it. I know you have slammed me many times and I never understood why, but it is in the past.
ReplyDeleteAs for being jealous, there is no reason for that. I count my family and friends as some of my most cherished blessings. And I try to work at it all the time. But to be jealous of me for anything is a waste of your energy. My life isn't one to envy.
You could have the same connections as CAROL and I do,(which you seem to have with TINA and CHI CHI) but it takes work and compassion to earn that friendship. Instead of trying to push peoples buttons with snark and sarcasm...and sometimes out right nastiness..try to gently ring their doorbell and ask to be let into thier lives.
As CAROL said, respect has to be earned and reciprocated. Plain and simple.
Opinions are a freedom we all want to be able to have. And with that comes the same freedom to disagree with them. But condemn the statement not the person. Often what comes out of dialogue is a change in opinions or least an understanding about why the person feels as they do. See, I even changed my opinion of Martians :)
I have gotten to know many of my friends here on the blog, and with that knowledge I have developed a a friendship that I know will transcend even this blog. And yes, I got to spend some wonderful time with them in Chicago and develop that even deeper. You had the same opportunity to have that experience with us...and maybe give us a chance to get to know you better and you us.
It's a new day (actually in 57 minutes it will be!)...time to move forward.
Well, it looks like I rambled on a bit longer then I intended!!
HODI...I never doubted the sincerity of your tears. {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteEBJ...Happy Birthday to the Mr.! Your story was hilarious!
TINA...whose toes are you licking and sucking? ija!
LYNN...your get-a-way sounds delighful! I actually wanted to name a son, if I had one, Harley. Not because of the motorcycles but in my religion we name our children after the dead and my dad's name was Harry. It is too old a name, so I would have needed a different H name and Harley was my favorite. A daughter would have been Hailey.
HODI...my mom worked in retail and like me, carried her weight in her belly. One day a customer asked her when she was due! She was in her 60's! She thanked the lady for even having the thought that she was still young enough to bear fruit!
ReplyDeleteGood Evening everyone.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I have often said that I sometimes only open my mouth to change feet. I say things aloud that I should only keep in my head. In my old age I have tried to keep my mouth shut more, and this is going to be one of those times.
I do want to say a big THANKS to you though for creating the nest for us. You have worked so hard to keep it safe for us to comment here and I appreciate you so much for doing it. I am so happy that I got to meet you and I want you to know I love you. ♥
CAROL - Time with your nephews + wine spritzer = HEAVEN ♥
ReplyDeleteLYNN - Love the pics you posted from the beach!! Especially those hard bodies.....ijs ♥
EBJ - The party sounds like fun!! Loved your story about "Pat"!!
MO - Thank you ♥ lol @ bearing fruit!! That totally made me giggle!!
BARB - Well said my friend!!
Carol & Mo, very well said!
ReplyDelete((((((((HUGS))))))))♥

btw...I live with a Martian and it's very strange here sometime's! Beside's pulling a foot out of my mouth on occasion, he's had to pull my foot out of his arse! ;o)
