Cary Grant 1/18/1904 to 11/29/1986

by Maureen

Today marks the anniversary of the passing of the man, the legend, Cary Grant. On 11/29/1986 Cary Grant suffered a stroke and passed away in Davenport, Iowa where he was to perform his one man show  - An Evening With Cary Grant. His wife was by his side. His will directed that he be cremated and that there be no services. His wife scattered his ashes in So. Cal to honor his wishes. Cary Grant left behind his only daughter Jennifer Grant, who later went on to have a son named Cary Benjamin Grant.

I thought it would be fun to list some of the quotes made famous by Mr. Grant. I enjoyed reading them and I hope you do, too.

Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant.
I pretended to be somebody I wanted to be until finally I became that person. Or he became me. Do your job and demand your compensation - but in that order.

I think that making love is the best form of exercise.
Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops.
My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.
To succeed with the opposite sex, tell her you're impotent. She can't wait to disprove it.
When people tell you how young you look, they are telling you how old you are.
I improve on misquotation.

There are lots more, but I didn't want to bore you more then you already are :)

PS...I've now seen 20 of his 72 movies!

  1. MO - Thanks for the fun blog. Cary certainly was a "looker"!! I like the quote "Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops" the best!! I still would like to watch An Affair to Remember!!

  10. Hmmm... I wonder what his quote was on how to improve your luck with the same sex? LOL!

  11. MO: I've always liked Cary Grant. I remember watching some kind of tribute to him when a notice flashed on the screen saying "This broadcast was pre-recorded" I thought that was odd because it was supposed to be a live show. The news was on afterwards and their top story was that Cary Grant had passed away. I guess the 'live' show didn't want to confuse anyone!

My favorite quote is "My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can." I can just hear him saying it too! :)

I think it's time for a Cary Grant movie..I'm going to check On Demand and see if there's one on!

  12. JODI: You're just as beautiful at 10th..or even 12th as you are at 1st! :)

    Good Morning TINA and BEAR!

  13. Good moanin from Vegas!!

Jodi, you are lovely as usual :) You have a wonderful way of making me smile with your serenades :)

Mo, I love, love Cary Grant!! So many good movie to chose from. I have cried every time I have watched "An affair to remember". I also loved "Arsenic & Old Lace".

I have been in Vegas almost 24 hrs and have not gambled or left my room! I think the "sammy" I ate on the plane was tainted. I have had the "royal back-yard-trots!". I am better not too far from a pottie lol!!

The good news is, I have not lost any money lol!!

    Have a great all!

Waving at Tina, Whabby & Zona~~~~

  15. Happy Monday Owls.

Mo, I have seen a lot of CG movies but the one I remember most is An Affair To Remember. I don't have On Demand so I think I'll have to rent some of his movies to refresh my memory. I have always thought he was very handsome. Thanks for the quotes and the great pics. I wasn't bored at all.

  16. Jodi, you are so pretty everyday, but today you are the prettiest. :)

  17. Tina, did the boy get back to college already? My son used to bring all his dirty laundry home every visit and take it all back clean. It seemed that there were just enough holidays for him never to do his own laundry.

  18. Zona, My fave quote is the same as yours.

  22. Good afternoon!

Mo I am loving all your Cary Grant knowledge!

Didn't really know too much about him til you started talking to him.

Jodi, congrats on being so f*cking gorgeous this morning!

Mary, hope there isn't a "Code Brown" in the casino! Ewww! haha!!

Hope you all have a great day!

  23. Loved today's blog topic, Mo! I wasn't bored at all. CG was handsome from the day he was born til the day he died and I can look at his pictures any day of the week.

As for all of y'all being gorgeous ... I only see blank boxes ... no pictures. I don't know what happened by I don't like it much. :o(

And now I must get something done around the house. Took a foster dog for his neuter surgery this morning, went to my first day of work in 2 years, came home long enough to let the dogs out, then had to go pick up the newly neutered foster boy. Trying to catch up on TV, email, FB, etc. I don't know how you working folk do this, lol!

  24. Good evening feathered friends!

Just a quick fly by until I get home.

    JODI...congrats on 1 - 10! 10 times the prettiest!

I will comment back after I get home.

I am waiting for #21 of the CG movies and then I will have to repeat them...that's all the library owns :(

    Ok, bbl!

Oh, I think my favorite quote is Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant.

  25. HODI...Absolutely you need to see An Affair to Remember! He was a little older in that movie, but who cares! Find one of the earlier movies...Ohh laa laa! Look for Holiday. (you also get a young Kathrine Hepburn!)

TINA...I knew. I was just being silly! CG does that to me:)~

WHABBY...he didn't need a quote for that...he did quite well with the same sex! Or so rumor has it!

ZONA...did you find a movie? TCM has been playing them a lot recently. Thanks for always letting me go on and on about my obsession!

MARY...Hope you are feeling better. I also loved Arsenic and Old Lace. CG said that was his least favorite movie. He felt he overacted in it. I think that was what made it so funny and farcical!

SACBARB...You can also go to YouTube and watch tons of clips of CG. Some from really early movies. ZONA sent me a clip from him dancing in Indiscreet...HILARIOUS!

BEBBI...he aged well, didn't he? Yummy!

EBJ...I'm obsessed! I love watching the extra features after the DVD, I read 2 bios and do a lot of googling! I need a real life!

CARYN...congrats on your new job. A real blessing. And doubly because it is something you love! I do look at a LOT of CG pics! I do a lot of google images!!

Phew...I hope I replied to everyone!

SHIRLEY...just because you think CG looks like a girl, you can still comment! I won't pelt you with moth balls! **fingers crossed behind my back**

  29. Mo. Love Cary Grant and vpCary Grant movies. As you know, my fav is Arsenic and Old Lace. Hilarious! The actor most like CG today is George Clooney.

I'm waiting at the airport and should be boarding the plane pretty soon.

  30. Evening Jodi and congrats on 1st! Nice talking with you today too!

Evening Tina, Whabbear, Zona, Mary Sorry you're sick. Hope you feel better soon), SacBarb, Bebbi, EBJ, Caryn and Maureen!

Maureen to be fair I haven't seen a lot of Cary Grant movies, so I really don't have much to say. Although...I don't think he is good looking. BUT, I don't think the guy in Tina's avatar is all that dreamy either.

Now if you all will excuse me I will be going to bed before I get hit with something! I have to go to the office in the morning for more Advanced Income Tax studying. Nighty night!!

Dianne I hope you're feeling better. Miss you! ((HUGS))

  31. JUST LIN...Over the weekend I watched Intolerable Cruelty with GC (hey the reverse of CG!!) and in the special features there is an interview with the wardrobe designer and she used CG to design the clothes GC wore in the movie!

SHIRLEY...you're entitled to your opinion...regardless of you not finding CG handsome!!
