I AM THANKFUL FOR…

by Sac Barb

                 THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

                 THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

                 THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES BECAUSE
IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS.

                 THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED.

THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED
                 BY FRIENDS.

THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,WINDOWS THAT
NEED CLEANING,AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT THE
GOVERNMENT.BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM
                 OF SPEECH.

THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF
THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE
OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH
                 TRANSPORTATION.

                 MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS
OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR.

THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES AT THE END
OF THE DAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE
                 OF WORKING HARD.

                 THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
                 IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL BECAUSE IT
MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

                 Live well, Laugh often, &

Love with all of your heart!

  5. We are going to my nephew's today to look through all the boxes of pictures from my mom and dad's place. He ended up with them so we are having a "family picture day and bbq" to take what any of us want to keep. We postponed leaving on our trip until Monday AM so we could go to this and Louis can finish up on the end of the year classes (and I wanted to see the finale of Survivor).

Hope you all have a good day. What are your plans today, owls?

  6. Wonder why when I wake up at this early time (not by choice) everyone else is still sleeping.

  11. Its that time again!!!

    Time for

    SONG "O" THE DAY!!

todays selections is the red hot sensation....

    "CUBAN PETE"

    Verse 1 (Male Solo)

They call me Cuban Pete. I'm the king of the rumba beat.
When I play the maracas I go chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky boom
Yessir I'm Cuban Pete. I'm the craze of my native street.
When I start to dance everything goes chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky boom
The senoritas they sing and they swing with terampero-
It's very nice so full of spice.
And when they dance in they bring a happy ring that era keros-
Singin' a song all the day long.
So if you like the beat take a lesson from Cuban Pete
    And I'll teach you to chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky-boom.

    Bridge (Female Solo)

He's really a modest guy although he's the hottest guy
    In Havana in havana.

    Verse 2 (Male Solo)

Si sinorita I know that you would like to chicky-boom-chick
It's very nice so full of spice.
I'll place my hand on your hip and if you will just give me your hand
Then we shall try - just you and I. I-yi-yi!
So if you like the beat take a lesson from Cuban Pete
    And I'll teach you chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky-boom

    Shake Your Booty Daddy Wow!
    See ya!

  14. Good Morning Tina - First as always ( for yesterday). There were so few people in the nest I think I was lst, 10th, 25th and 50th. I am not bragging because I felt completely alone. A few friends flew in and flew out just as fast. I was sobbing uncontrollably by the end of the evening. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just_Lin - I knew you lived in California. I don't know what I was thinking. Tina are you sure it wasn't me you were laughing at and not Just_Lin?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Good Morning Lynn - It is so nice to see you. I hope this means you are feeling well. I think of you often.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Michael - Good morning and thanks for the kind words. I sang that whole song and it cheered me up a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Dianne - I bet you are excited. Before my trips I was excited but also nervous and never knew why. Are you nervous at all?

You asked what are the owls doing today? I am having a "nothing day". Jack, my son-in-law and grandson are working at the farm. Jack doesn't usually work on Saturdays but it's the only day my grandson can work and he likes to make some money. So today it's just me, my "fur babies" and my farms. It should be a nice contented day.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good Morning Maureen - I had fun with your blog yesterday. I was keeping it company.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tina when I read this I thought of you...

What does nascar stand for: non athletic sport created around rednecks!

With that said I'm thankful Tina has a sence of humor!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Afternoon Tina,Lynn, Dianne,*glares at Michael*, Maureen and Tinka!

My plans for the day are to watch Hell's Kitchen on the computer, eat pizza and watch some hockey tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. SacBarb - I loved your blog today. Sometimes we forget to be thankful for the little things we take for granted.

I am thankful for my husband who spoils me, my friends who feel like family and my "fur babies" who love me no matter what mood I am in.
I am also thankful that even though I can't walk far I can still walk and "putter" around my home.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I vowed I wouldn't be a blog hog today and already I have done the same thing as yesterday. This must stop. My farms are being neglected. Have a great day all owls everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tinka~ I wasn't laughing at you~ It's the way J/L writes things....I can just hear her and it made me laugh~

    Shirl~ I'm grateful you have a sense of humor too~ :)~

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh my God I forgot Shirley - How could I have done that? My fellow Canadian and good friend.

It should be a good hockey game tonight. I so hope the Canucks make it to the final play-offs. I will be thinking of when it is on tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks Tina - I guess I am too sensitive. By the way in my first comment it should have said "except for yesterday". Spellcheck had highlighted the word telling me they didn't think it was the correct word to use. I ignored the highlight and when it posted it deleted the word. I guess you don't mess with "Spellcheck".

I had my post all typed..and pushed 'publish'..at the same time Adobe and my security system decided to do an update and my poor ol' computer got confused and froze up. Sigh..so the lonnng comment I had just typed is gone.

DI: Have a great time at your nephews..I still think you should go earlier..kwim? I'm thankful that you are so patient with my old fadoo ways.. ;)

MICHAEL: I'm sure I'll be be-boppin around here all day to that song..Chick chicky BOOM indeed! I'm thankful that I can actually send you a Hit once in a while instead of a Miss..I'm also thankful you don't bake more often..AND that those dolls are put away.. :D

MO: I know you're cousins are thankful for you a hundred times over..and I am too.. :)

LYNN: HI!! I'm thankful you are posting more and feeling better..I missed you.. :)

I'm also thankful for this wonderful computer that is now going to let me post this comment..I hope..

  28. I am also thankful that copy and paste worked..it took 3 times to publish..

I really shouldn't be pushing my luck by trying again..but here goes..

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yay!!

This took 3 times too.. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tina Wipe that smile off your face. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. SacBarb Thanks for the blog today. It's a very good reminder to be thankful for those everyday things that we sometimes take for granted. I hope your feeling a lot better today.

    ReplyDelete
  32. LynnD How are you feeling? I hope things are getting much better for you.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dianne Have you figured out what you're packing, yet? I thought I knew (more or less) what I was packing for my trip this Monday but I just looked at the 10 day forecast and now I have to revise my plan. Looks like I'll be over-packing once again. What else is new?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good Morning Zona - I am thankful that your lovely comment finally posted. I am also thankful that you are such a kind loving cyber daughter and you have the patience to listen to my long tales each morning.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Michael I'm thankful for your vivid imagination and writing skills. As for your big d..., measuring may not be your strong suit.

    ReplyDelete
  36. MO LOL @ not wanting to see ugly right off the bat! That's how I feel when I first see myself in the mirror in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tinka It's okay. Sometimes I lose track of where I am, too.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Shirley Yum, pizza! Maybe that's what I should do for dinner tonight. I'm going to be thinking about it all day, now. Thanks a lot, Shirley. ***frowns***

    ReplyDelete
  39. Zona I'm thankful you have an A/C and a pool pump. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tina2 On second though, you look much better with your smile. Please put it back on. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. That should be "thought" but I don't want to delete.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Gotta get moving. I need to pack the cat up for boarding. bbl

    ReplyDelete
  43. yoo hoo J/L!!!!

    adjusts sock...

    and where are YOU going!!??

    and Dianna Navratilova!!

R U flying into Houston or Galveston? Driving down? I want details....are you overnighting in Galveston?? What cruise and does it leave on Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Did Shirley say that she is going to watch someone hockey tonight!?

OH! ...I'm sorry...that comment said "watch SOME hockey"...

    well thats different...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just_Lin - How does your cat feel about being in a kennel? I have never tried it because I always think Teddy will be very unhappy away from his home. We board the dogs but leave the cat home and have someone check on him each day.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Michael - You have a naughty mind.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Happy Saturday Owls.

I have been really cranky and feeling sorry for myself lately because I hate being sick, then I got this from a friend and I realized I have more things to be grateful for than to be cranky about, so I thought it would make a good blog.

Tina, thanks for posting this your lovliness.

Waving a wing to all the Owls. I am going to go back to bed. BBL

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tinka. I work for a veterinary clinic so I board her at our cat hospital. They take good care of her there. She is very old so I feel better having her there so people can give her medical assistance if need be or, frankly, put her down if she suddenly starts failing. I don't want her to suffer. I'm not leaving until Monday morning but took her in today so I can concentrate on other things I need to do. She gets a lot of attention there as they love old kitties.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Michael. LOL @ adjusting your sock. when my husband was still alive, we used to like to see plays in the city and afterward when we went to get on the freeway to come home, we would pass a particular leather bar. I noticed there seemed to be plenty of false advertising among the patrons. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  50. Audrey dear....why did you understand what Miguelito said and I didn't?~ hmmmmmm? I'm thinking you DON'T need the moaning lessons~ ijs~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. Tina Maybe you didn't get it because you live in Utah....ijs.

    ReplyDelete
  52. SacBarb Sorry you are still sick. I hate being sick, too. Just think how lucky we are to have nice, cozy beds to recover in. That's something to be thankful for, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  53. That kind of made it sound like I am sick, too, and I'm not. I am worried about it, though, as I notice my grandkids doing a lot of sneezing and coughing. They say it is allergies and I sure hope so. I do NOT want to be sick on this trip.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Michael I guess I forgot to answer your question. I'm going to southern California. I have a hot date for the first 5 days then staying for another 5 days with my mom.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just Lin tell your mom that Shirley from Nova Scotia says "Hi!" and give her a hug from me, please!

Dianne I hope you have a wonderful cruise! Where will you be cruising to?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Shirley....

I don't think Dianne knows where she is going...they just turn her and aim her and she proceeds..

but from Galveston I think Cozumel is a safe bet....and Playa de la Coochie Choochita....then they'll prolly stop in Guadalarico....

Wouldn't it be awful if the ship sank....but they could make a raft and Dianne could use her brassiere for a sail and they would prolly get back to Galveston ahead of schedule!!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. omg.....yes...Cozumel.......I think I just pee'd my pants~ excuse me~

    ReplyDelete
  58. Miguelito~ I think I'll go to church tonight to pray for the repose of ur soul~ ijs~

    ReplyDelete
  59. Tina - Just maybe I not as innocent as I look but please don't tell anyone.

I pray for all the souls on this blog. I think we all need the prayers : Yes even you and Michael. When we get to heaven we must be able to carry on this blog. It would be sad if some poor souls were missing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just_Lin - For your kitty I think you have the ideal situation. For mine who likes his particular spot in each room of his house I think he would be miserable. If I put him in a crate to take him to the Vet he gets very angry. I read once that a dog loves his people more than anything but a cat loves his home. I don't think that's true of all cats but with mine I think it might be.

    ReplyDelete
  61. OMFG...TINKA...what do you mean you're not as innocent as you look...

First I find out there in no Santa, no Easter Bunny, no Prince Charming and now this...

    I can't take much more.

Must fan myself and lay down now...

    ReplyDelete
  62. SacBarb - I hope you feel completely well soon. I miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maureen - Maybe I spoke too soon because I have no idea what Michael is talking about - adjusting his socks. Someone explain please, by e-mail if necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tinka~ I was going to answer ur question....but I think I'll go to church instead~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  65. TINKA...in the old days men wore garters below their knees to hold up their socks. Now that is obsolete so socks fall and get rumpled, hence the need to adjust...

that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. How appropros...talk about sock adjustment and get a 69!!

    Irony isn't wasted on me!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks Maureen and you know there is no such thing as co-incidence. You were meant to land on 69.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Tina - Say a prayer for me. Maybe I will wake up tomorrow and be able to go on a long hike. You will have performed a miracle with your prayers. Then we will make you a saint. Oh no, you can't be alive and be a saint. Pray for me anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ST. TINA of BLOGSPOT...patron saint of owls and cricuts!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Good one Maureen - We have our own saint. Maybe we will become famous.

    ReplyDelete
  71. TINKA...I think it would be infamous!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Maureen - You could be right.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tinka Most cats are like Teddy, only comfortable in their own home. This last kitty of mine is different, though, and is totally relaxed and content at the cat hospital. They give her a large kennel with climbing posts and many different beds. At her age, she mostly sleeps, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Just_Lin - I wish Teddy would be happy in a kennel. I know they treat my dogs really well there. I also wish I could take Teddy to the farm. I am just so afraid if he got out of the cabin I would never see him again. We are really in the woods when we go to the farm. It's 54 acres of trees and the trout farm is in the middle. Very peaceful but I don't let my "fur babies" off the leash. They would start chasing bunny rabbits or the feral cats that live there and I think they would be lost in the woods.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's time for sleep and I am so thankful for my nice warm cozy bed. I feel blessed.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sac Barb - Thank you for giving us a day when we all think about what we are thankful for. It is fitting that we are six months from your Thanksgiving Day. This can be our half way Thanksgiving Day
I am so thankful for my friends. This poem says it better than I could.

    The Power of Friends

Everyone knows of the power of friends,
The terrific result, when everything blends.
    When people have friends, they don’t stand alone;
Friends always help, when you face the unknown.
Friends give you courage to face problems untold,
So the love of a friend can help make you bold.
They can help you to live a much richer life,
So your every day living will be less filled with strife.
    Thanks for being my friend!
