Inside The Haboob

by Zona

We had another big dust storm hit us yesterday. Instead of a lot of comments saying 'ooooh...ahhhh' on the local news station's FB page..there were more that said..'Get over it..we live in a desert..we have dirt and sand here!!'.  Well, I was still a little unnerved by the whole thing..ijs.. I thought you might like to see what the storm looked like from our backyard. Yep..Mr Z was out there taking pictures! The sky turned completely orange and it got really quiet right before the strong winds hit..it was kind of surreal. Oh and the little spots on the pictures? That's the dust..and lots of it!! Has anybody seen my can of Pledge?  ;)

  2. Zona I think it is scary and what a mess to clean up after.

Tell Mr. Z that the pics turned out very eerie looking.

Dianne from area 51: It has been a long one this time. I am slowly coming back and feeling like my real self. I should have called you for advice to pull through it. :)

  3. J/L That day was over cast at the beach but it was quite warm. It actually felt really good to get my feet wet. It could have been I was oblivious of the water temp because of the hot flashes. :)

  4. Good morning!!

Ya know I was thinking....I wonder how many dust mites come with the extra large haboob...and if you can super-size it?

  5. Tina made the 10pm flight and is at her destination....Lihue, Kauai....

of course their luggage is in
Ho Chi Minh City...but that'll all get worked out....and if it doesn't its not like there is not plenty more polyester where that came from...

Speaking of Hawaii...are any of you watching "Roseannes Nuts"...? Its good...and hilarious...and real...

  6. Good Morning Lynn, and Michael. It's always nice to see your smiling faces first thing in the morning.

  7. Lynn - Congrats on being first again. You are getting good at it. I am so happy you are feeling better. I have been there and it's not fun.

  8. Michael - Thanks for the update. I saw a preview of Rosanne's show on the "Joy Behar Show". It looked like fun. I must remember to look up the time and channel.

  9. Zona - That looks like a scene from "The Twilight Show". It's not as scary as the first storm you had. I thought you would get swallowed up in that one. When are you going to listen to me and move in with us. This house is too big for two people.

  10. I am getting up courage to get dressed and go to my therapy. I will write later and tell you if I made it there and/or survived it.

  11. That last post was #10. I forgot to write it down. Have a great day everyone.

  12. LynnD Congrats on being the most beautiful flower today! I'm so glad you are starting to feel bette. When I was at my Mom's recently, it was quite warm so we stayed inside a lot with the air conditioning. However, I'd find that around dinner time or so, I'd have a strong desire to put my feet in the pool. I wonder if we can cool off through the soles of our feet?

  13. Zona Wow! What great pics Randy took and how creepy it is. I saw pics on the news when the first one hit. It's so scary and ominous looking. I hope Randy was wering a surgical mask while outside. And they say asthmatics do better in the desert....

  14. Michael LOL @ more polyester! I HATE it when my luggage doesn't arrive when I do! What a pain in the ass! And then you're pretty much stuck in the same clothes you sat for hours in on the plane. Ugh! But at least they are in paradise and not much clothing is required.

  15. Tinka Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope your water therapy goes better this time.

  16. Zona, Doesn't Mr. Z know enough to come in out of the dust? After all, you do live in the desert (or is that dessert?) and he could get covered with it.

  17. Well, I took Chad to the airport for his flight back to Seattle. It's going to be very quiet around here again.

Lynn, I know you must be feeling better because you are getting up early again. So happy for you, lovely lady.

J/L, I saw your comment in A51 and as I said, Chad is such a brat, but I love him anyway. Sorry you are still sore from your fall. Are you sure you didn't have a serious injury?

Tinka, Hope your water therapy goes well for you today.

Dianne, you could have called me, I was up at 3am. My jaw hurt and my tooth was kinda throbbing. It's better today though.

  18. Holy Buckets, Ms. Zona, it looks like you guys were visiting a different planet. Thanks for posting the pics. , because now I can really visualize it.

    Does that happen every year?

  19. Ya know I had two thoughts today.

    1. If you stand in a haboob and there are thousands of dust mites it would be like getting the best facial ever.

    2. Wondering why I was paying my bills when so many in Congress think it okay for the country to default.

  20. LynnD This is a pic my brother took of his feet last night with baby ducks walking on them. While I was down at my mother's, these ducks hatched in a planter next to her pool.

  21. LynnD A facial or a sand blasting? I could use a sand blasting.

  22. SacBarb I managed to go to Curves today. I skipped a couple of machines that are hard on knees and there was one arm one that hurt my left shoulder so I didn't do that one, either. Otherwise, doing okay today. Both my knees are now yellow with some purple patches. Lovely, just lovely.

  24. I love the ducky toes pic J/L!

  25. Barb and Just_Lin - Thanks for wishing me good luck with my therapy. I did a lot better because I stayed within my own limitations. When she yelled "Try harder," I didn't. When she said, "Don't take a break between Moves," I did. I still got a good aerobic workout and hope to go again Tuesday.

  26. J/l...

I wanna feel the ducklings playing on my feet too! ...so cute!

please! ...before Lynn D throws a bag of dust mites in my face!!

and on a serious note...the GOP is playing a scary game with the world economy...and ours...

I think they should be under the threat of being charged with treason....

  27. We are off for our nightly "walk". I am on the scooter. Jack walks. Tia walks half of the way then sits at my feet. Tango, who has a heart conditon, walks one quarter of the way then sits proudly in my front basket. She is really good unless she sees another dog and then she wants to jump out. It will be better when the dog trailer arrives. We probably are a funny sight to anyone looking out the window.

I love evening walks. It is such a special time in the summer.

  28. Tinka...I have found that what works best for me is "Visual Aerobics"....

yeah...everything else was so hard on me...with the neuropathy in my legs that when I ran across this method I was thrilled...

Its actually very simple...and you don't need a coach or therapist or anything....

I just sit in my favorite chair or you can even do it from bed...I just visualize myself doing aerobics!!

  29. Zona Rosa!

These pictures remind me of when Mrs. Crenshaw's rusty old hot water heater blew up....

You couldn't hardly see your hand in front of your face...much less old widow Crenshaw stumbling around with holes burned all in her house-coat and all her head hair...eyebrows and eyelashes singed off....

we refer to it as "the night the lights went out in Bryan"...

Goodness that makes me miss widow Crenshaw.....yeah...just last year she thought she smelled gas in her house so she struck a match to see where it was coming from...

one big KaBoom! and the widow was gone to glory. RIP.

  30. WOW ZONA: That is quite the storm. I would hate cleaning up or supervising my husband to clean up afterwards....lol. Great pictures. Is that slide in your back yard in the pool? Do you go down it?

LYNN: If I had an answer on how to find the "light at the end of the tunnel" ....hell, I would bottle it and be rich.....

MICHAEL: Oh gosh, your poor neighbor. I would imagine her house lot is quite an eyesore in the neighborhood. I'm surprised you put up with that being around?

TINK: I wish I could have gone with you today. I do love the water but just can't get myself out of the house....I'm more into MICHAEL's visual aerobics.

j/l: I am glad you are getting better. Those bruises last a really long time. You are so lucky you didn't break anything.

Well, I was going to change my avatar but now that football is back is session....I think I will leave it. I know it makes ZONA scared for her Raiders when she sees it.

Hope everyone has a good evening. ITEACH, I am hoping you are doing okay.

  31. Dianne, I'm okay, just feel very sad for all the teenagers right now. They were on our main drag today with balloons and posters saying prayers for the deceased girls.

  33. Hi Guys!

Thank you for all the comments on my blog today..I'm glad you liked the pictures..I thought they were cool..freaky..but cool..yes, I'm a child of the 70's.. ;D

LYNN: The cars were absolutely filthy..as were the windows..but everything is always dusty here..so we're kinda used to it!

MICHAEL: Dust mites? Ewwwww...I never even thought of that..thanks for making me feel like scratchin'.. ;)

TINKA: I would love to move in with you..can Mr Z come too? Do you think Nikki would get along with Tango and Tia? I have a feeling she might have issues with Teddy..lol..

J/LIN: Randy didn't have a mask on..he figured he'd be ok..he was coughing most of the night..I was out there for a couple minutes and came in with dirt in my mouth, eyes and nose..it was icky..

BARB: I don't think he does know better..in another life he would have loved being a storm chaser!!

ITEACH: We get regular dust storms all the time in the summer..but we only get these big ones about once a year..this year was weird because there were 2 and they were HUGE!

DI: The pool slide is in our backyard..and no I don't go down it anymore..I like my neck unbroken.. :D

    GO RAIDERS!!!! :D
