This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!

~ Pencil Art ~
by Tina~in_ut
I love the cross and the saw. Which one's your favorite?
When I heard that today's blog was going to be about art....I guess in my excitement I let my imagination run amok. I was thinking along the lines of Lucien Freud...who recently died or perhaps work from Picasso's blue period...away from the abstract....
and I wanted a special art avatar so I chose one of my favorite things...and Alexander Calder mobile...and as fate would have it today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 113th birthday of Alexander Calder, inventor of the mobile. And fittingly, the mobile in their logo moves when you “push” it with your mouse — or tilt your Google Chrome and accelerometer-equipped laptop!
This particular medium is one I have never seen before...pencil lead. Is that a No. 2 lead?
I'm sorry...I just can't think straight...all I can imagine is someone borrowing your pencil and barring down to hard and snapping the tips off....
Did you find this at a "swap meet" or perhaps the gift shop at a Crackerbarrel?
Lynn: I agree, we need to teach Mr. Snooty pants to be a little bit more...errmmmm.... down to earth... he he..
Art is an expression and beauty is in the eye of the beholder..and I think the pencil art is beautiful but I am not sure it is real. Would love to see it "in real life" because otherwise, it's just photo shop! But, still Art..always.
have a blessed day my most beautiful owl friends..love ya!
Appalachian crafts have their place! Just like banjo pickers on the Chattahoochee River...Hobo skid marks on grassy knolls....peculiar smells and New Jersey....Cheech and Chong...
Hi Bebbi!! I was typing while you were suggesting taking me down a notch....lol
I don't think it is photo shopped....I think this is something Tina ordered out of one of those "Harriets" catalogs....you know...with the certificate of authenticity and everything....
I think she also ordered paintings of those children with the big eyes....
Michael Congrats on being first and oh, so handsome, today. Hey, aren't mobiles used to hang over babies' cribs to help with their focus and keeping their eyes from roaming all over in their little heads? Would I find an Alexander Calder in Babies R Us?
Hodi Not too good. Both lung and liver tumors have grown significantly in short amount of time. Right now, it's sounding like she doesn't want to have biopsy of lung tumor as indications are that it is the more aggressive type cancer and only palliative care would be offered then, anyway. She figures she's 83, has health issues, and doesn't want stuff done to her to just make things more uncomfortable.
Linda darling Calder mobiles are works of art. Occasionally one will surface in a Sothebys or Christies auction. If you go to the google seach page the one there in celebration of his birthday will float gracefully if you move it with your mouse. His mobiles were amazing.....
When I worked for Braniff International we had a DC-8 that he did for us called "FLYING COLORS TO SOUTH AMERICA"....one of the first "special" liveries for any airline. He also did a paint scheme for the bicentiennal in 1975...and one for a tribute to Mexico but died before that scheme was applied. Only the models were completed....
TINA: I liked this! I wonder how someone thinks these things up though..was this guy sitting on the porch with a pencil in one hand and a knife in the other and all of a sudden it came to him...Shazaam! I'll carve the tip of a pencil into a hammer? Still..I think it's very cool! I like the screw and the key the best..
MICHAEL: I'm sorry I'm late..and early..I'm usually so good at following instructions.. ;)

ReplyDeleteMeeMee you look wonderful at first.
MeeMee quit being so snooty. :) I find the pencil art intriguing it reminds me of the tramp art that evolved during the first depression.
I really like the double heart still trying to figure out how they did that one. The hammer was kind of cool too.
Love these.. Amazing! I love them all.
