Grand Canyon Skywalk

by Zona

In 2007 someone came up with the crazy idea to open the Grand Canyon Skywalk...I know..I know..a lot of people think that standing on a piece of glass almost a mile above the canyon..wearing Swifter booties on your feet..is cool..but not me. I just know if I ever got up the nerve to step out on this thing..someone behind me would slip...fall into me..and I would go sock slidin' right over the edge and end up a puff of dust just like Wile E. Coyote. Yes, the Grand Canyon is beautiful...but I'll look at it from waaaaaay over here..ok?  ;D

  3. April 2007....went. And it was a bitch to get there. It was expensive and very disappointing.

A helicopter is way better and about the same price...

  5. Zona I don't know if I'd step out on it, either. I'm sure there are plenty of breathtaking views that don't require one to stand on plexiglass.

  6. Shirley So, does that mean you wouldn't want to walk out onto it? Just wondering, ;)

  7. Michael Thanks for the tip. I loved the helicopter ride I went on in Alaska so I imagine I would love one over the Grand Canyon. Problem is that I recall some accident over the canyon where two sightseeing tour helicopters hit each other.

  8. lol...J/L...those were planes....there is no radar in the canyon....

I've done the plane tour too and I was scared....but at the time the nature people wanted the noise out of the canyon....I don't think they got their way but I don't know what safety measures have been taken either...

This is not my kind of travel...these places take time and trouble to get to... bumps and dust..

I prefer that most of the "sights" be visible on the drive in from the airport then if I can't see it from my hotel room then thats too bad.

Its just like that big museum in Paris...the Louvre....you ain't never seen so much of the same crap...you walk and walk and walk and see painting after painting...ga!!

Next time...if I EVER go back in there...I want a golf cart and a guide whom I will give a list of what I wish to see...no...no less.

And if they don't have a golf cart they can just gather the items I want and bring them to Napoleons parlor where I can view them in comfort...

Just bring me the French Crown Jewels...thats all I want to see. I do not need to see anymore small busted big assed women laying around eating fruit...mkay?

And you know that Mona Lisa they have hanging in there behind all the security and bulletproof glass isn't even the real one! But who cares ...right? Ya seen one ugly painting you seen em all...swat I say.

  10. ZONA: I would never walk out on that and I'm not really afraid of heights but it just doesn't seem like a good walk to me. I would be tooooooo scared. Thanks for the blog today.

MICHAEL: You are a well traveled guy. I wouldn't probably want to see all those paintings either...I am kind of on your wave length about a museum anyway.

J/L: Congratulations to your 49ers. Boy, they are doing great...You may end up in the Super Bowl. Broncos just excited to beat the Raiders yesterday!!

TINA: Goof afternoon. Snowing there? We are getting predictions of 2-4 for tomorrow. I was just glad it didn't snow for my "party" on Saturday. I am so glad you are enjoying the play at school.. Wish I lived closer and I would go with you...I would love to see the kids.

SHIRLEY: Come on...you never tell us how you really feel. We can take it. Are you ever going to make me gingerbread pancakes again? It's that time of year.

I wish everyone a good afternoon and evening.....

  11. Hi DI!

I can't watch the video, but I would take the walk in a heartbeat! I would, however, pass on the helicopter ride. That scares me!

At the CN Tower in Toronto, when you go to the top, there is a plexiglass floor and you can look straight down to the street! It was awesome! My friends were chicken, but I loved it!

When we were in Florence there was a wait of about half the day to get into the museum to see Michaelangelo's David. We decided we had seen pictures so we passed on it. I regret that to this day.

JUST LIN...LOL'ing at you almost typing TUNA!!!!

Hope you all had a nice day

  12. Hi Guys!

TINA: If you go..don't forget to send me a picture! :D

SHIRLEY: Your 'splat' almost made me spit out my DC..omg..that's just what I was saying would happen..LOL! ;D

MICHAEL: Over $60 and you can no longer take video..doesn't seem worth it to me..

J/LIN: Ya know..I think I liked looking at the Grand Canyon best when I flew over it going to Utah..talk about a bird's eye view!

DI: I was never afraid of heights until I turned 40..I don't know why..maybe because I wrecked my knee and didn't feel quite 'stable' anymore..

    MO: You're a better woman than I Gunga Din..I wouldn't do the helicopter ride either..bawk bawk..that's me! :D

I was just thinking of this swiffer bootie thing..sounds like it could make sock slidin' even more fun! :D

Thanks for the comments everyone..Have a good night..catch y'all on the flip side!!

  13. Maureen...

I always tell people that no matter how long you have to wait....don't miss it....my sister almost gave up but the line started moving and they were in. She said it was the best advice I had given her. And shes an idiot. When we were going over her travel plans I told that she had to see David in Florence...

She said "you know someone in Florence named David? Whats his last name?"

I shant describe the experience because hopefully you will return and see for yourself...but I will tell you it brought tears to my eyes...I think its my favorite thing and I have seen a lot of "things"...

    not that thing silly!

  17. Zona, My computer is still acting up and I can't see the blog, however Ihave seen pics of it and I am so with Shirley. I would NEVER walk out on that thing even if they paid me.
Now about those swiffer shoe covers...they would slide better than socks and they would clean at the same time. Of course, you should probably have an ambulance at the ready!

  18. Dianne, It's not quite your birthday yet, but Happy, Happy Birthday anyway. Oh, and congrats on your Broncos kicking arse yesterday. My son is NOT a happy camper. He has told everyone to bet the farm on the Chargers on Thursday.
