HAPPY, HAPPY, SKIP. SKIP

by Just_Lin

Today was a quiet Sunday at home.  I was just starting to simmer some meat for beef stew when I noticed that every time my granddaughter, Kaylee, went from one room to the next, she was skipping.  This had not been such a good idea a little earlier in the day when she and the dog, Ursula, collided resulting in Ursula getting kicked by a knee right in her mouth, and the granddaughter crumpling to the floor with grand theatrical wails about the tooth puncture that was now in her knee.  Fortunately, after applying an ice pack to the knee, all was well very soon and the skipping began again.

My granddaughter's jubilant skipping made me reflect on my own moments of joy and wondering when the last time was that I was that happy and carefree that it could manifest itself in skipping.  I decided that it was last February when I met Custard for a road trip.  I flew up north and he met me at the airport.  It was a great reunion because we hadn't seen each other in a long time.  After the hugs and kisses, we started walking hand in hand to the baggage claim area.  I had to stop for just a moment, and jump up and down a couple of times while clapping, all the while grinning ear to ear.  I was so very happy at that exact moment.  My joyous display made him laugh.  We had a lot of good laughs on that trip and I cherish every memory.

Can you recall the last time you felt so happy that you just wanted to skip or jump up and down?

  3. Good Morning Shirley and Tina -Happy Thursday to you and to all other owls who are busy working, playing or getting ready for Christmas. I guess that is redundant as Christmas does involve both working and playing.
Anyway have a great day one and all.

  4. thats so neat J/L!

right off hand I think of when Lisa was having a tumor removed and went into surgery with full knowledge that she would come out with a colostomy...

Surgeon came out and told us he had successfully removed the tumor and hadn't had to do the colostomy!!!

that was a running...skipping...hugging...crying..ectastic.. exciting moment!!

you know...happy dance time like you in baggage claim....lol

  5. My husband just phoned as the ship was landing in Vancouver. I discover from him that it is Wednesday not Thursday as I said in my last post. Wow, what a senior moment that was. Jack goes to Vancouver every Thursday to deliver trout to his Mainland outlets. It was changed to Wednesday this week, for some reason I can't think of, and in my mind it changed today to Thursday. I was trying to get up the energy to go to water therapy. Good Lord is this what I have to look forward to in the future? I hope not.

  6. Good Morning!

J/LIN: I love that picture of your granddaughter and Ursula..so dang cute!

I know what you mean about having those moments..the ones where you just laugh out loud and clap your hands in sheer delight. I felt that way this weekend when Randy turned on the Christmas lights outside..it just made me feel like a kid. I have my days when I feel down..but I have more days when something or someone makes me laugh until I cry..I love those times! Love them! :)

SHIRLEY: Congrats on being Firstest! :)

TINA: I agree with you about a phone call being able to just make your day..but I was so nervous on my wedding day..I don't know if I remembered to be happy until the reception! ;D

And since this blog made me smile today..I'm going to do some sock slidin'! Have a good day everyone! :D

  7. Just_Li - I loved your post. It gave me a warm feeling.

Michael - I had the exact feeling 3 months ago. My niece had the same operation with the same results. We were all so happy that day. However she is now going through chemo which isn't very nice but that one day we were elated.

  8. MICHAEL: Perfect description of what sounds like a perfect moment!

TINKA: If Randy takes a day off..I get my days all messed up..I don't think it's as much a senior moment as an adjustment to a change in routine..That's my story and I'm sticking to it.. ;D

    From 51:

BARB: Oh I DO know... ;D

    DI: It's a term of endearment.. ;D

J/LIN: We are losing our nice weather tomorrow..looks like you're sending us a cold front with rain, wind and temps in the 50's! Brrrrr..

  10. This post should have followed my first one but I got interrupted by the gardener. I had to pay him for November.
    Anyway -
I loved your blog Just_Lin. The picture is beautiful.
There have been many happy days in my life. I guess one that stands out was the day four years ago when my baby granddaughter was born beautiful but more importantly healthy. My son and daughter-in-law had been married 14 years and had just about given up when they were blessed with their first child. There were a lot of us jumping with glee that day and she has been a joy for us ever since.

  12. Good Morning Zona - Thanks for making me feel better about not knowing what day it was. Did I ever tell you that you always make me feel better when something is wrong? I think that is one of your great talents.

  16. J/L, What a sweet pic of your granddaughter and Ursula. There have been many times when I have been that happy, but one of the best times was when Todd came to my work with his newly adopted Canton to surprise me for Mother's Day. I hadn't seen him in about a year because he was living in San Diego and I was sooooo happy I really did do a happy dance. All my staff knew he was coming because they had to make sure I would be in the office when he arrived. It was a really good day and weekend.

  17. Hello, HOoters! I'm glad you are enjoying the blog. It's kind of ironic because C and I called it quits yesterday (for the umpteenth time). It's just too difficult to maintain a relationship at such a distance, too many family problems and complications, economy, etc. It's sad but I'm tired of all the ups and downs, on again, off again.

  18. Zona, make sure Nikki is out of the way when you're sliding.

  23. Tinka Yesterday I was at work and on two separate occasions I walked down the hall to the office manager's office and forgot why I went there. I did know what day it was, though. LOL

  24. Zona Sorry we are sending you the nasty weather. Last night on the news, the weather person was talking about high winds expected for today but so far, there's just a little breeze. Maybe that's the new "high winds". Like when there's a few raindrops and we have "Storm Watch".

  25. Michael Well, I've never had to look around to remember where I am but I have had a few unnerving seconds when driving after my mind has wandered off and then I am suddenly wondering "Where am I, where am I going and did I miss my exit?"

  26. SacBarb What a nice surprise that was for you. And thank you very much for the hugs.
