We had a lot of rain and later in the day it turned to snow. What these people didn't realize was that there was a sheet of ice underneath. We were watching this at work and I was available for calls. Right at the 5:02 mark I got a call. It sounded like a mixture of a scream and laugh when I answered and I had to make up some silly story so the passenger didn't think I was messing around at work! Whew~
thats pretty crazy....
ReplyDeletereminds me of when I lived in Denver...every time I got my car out...
ReplyDeletealso reminds me of a great movie..."The Trip To Bountiful" in 1985 for which Geraldine Paige won an Oscar for her portrayal of Carrie Watts...who is living the twilight of her life trapped in an apartment in 1940's Houston, Texas with a controlling daughter-in-law and a hen-pecked son. Her fondest wish -- just once before she dies -- is to revisit Bountiful, the small Texas town of her youth which she still refers to as "home." The trouble is her son, Ludie, is too concerned for her health to allow her to travel alone and her petty daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae, insists they don't have money to squander on bus tickets. This prompts "escape" attempts each month which coincide with the arrival of Mrs. Watts' Social Security check. Then, Mrs. Watts makes a successful escape and last trip home.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend it if u haven't seen it...

A prayer giving thanks for the reign of the Queen has been released by the Church of England to mark her 60 years on the throne. The beginning of her reign was February 6,1952...
ReplyDeleteGod of time and eternity,
Whose son reigns as servant, not master;
We give you thanks and praise
That you have blessed this nation, the realms and territories with Elizabeth,
Our beloved and glorious Queen.
In this year of Jubilee,
Grant her your gifts of love and joy and peace
As she continues in faithful obedience to you, her Lord and God,
And in devoted service to her lands and peoples,
And those of the Commonwealth,
Now and all the days of her life;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
60 years on the throne...and not a single scandal...not even a hint of anything bad...
ReplyDeleteThe only living royal that I know of that can say that is Edward...her youngest son...
I was reading some excerpts from the Condolences Books for the Queen Mum and some people wrote the sweetest things....
ReplyDelete"When Diana died I swore I would never smile again, but eventually I did. Now the Queen Mum has gone I cannot image that I will ever smile for the rest of my life, but I will probably break that one too".
"I thought she would never die, she has let us all down very badly"
"She was a trooper and she never gave up. I remember one time she was visiting a school and I asked her if she would like to make a visit to the cloakroom before she left. 'No' she replied, 'I didn't give in to the Nazis and I won't give in to the bladder'. That's how she was, a fighter, who refused to be beaten by anything. She pissed herself later though, it was sickening".
"She was a marvelous woman, and a wonderful lover".
"I am absolutely devastated, at least we could have got the day off".
"I remember she came to visit us in the East End one time. She was so kind, so generous and so sweet. She whispered softly in my ear, 'You know its not true' she said, 'you don't smell of shit'. She was a wondrous person".
"Whichever way you look at it, it just is not as exciting as Diana".
"I am sure the Queen Mum will not let this small setback put an end to her public duties".
"On behalf of all blacks, I send the sincerest condolences".
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteTina that soooo looks like it was here a few weeks ago when we had our snow ice storm.
I am on a roll people I just cleaned out another part of our office! Two months ago I would not even be able to clean my desk. It was so bad I would vacuum for 10 minutes and have to lay down for 20. I just spent two hours sorting and moving crap. My energy is coming back! Yay! Oh and the heart palpitations I was having 6 and 7 times a day are now down to an occasional flutter. All of this because of my thyroid not depression.
Okay off to get computer stuff done and then I am going to hit the showers.
Tinka my Uncle really was watching me walk. My Mother died when I was 6 and what I have left for Aunts and Uncles on her side. Say I remind them of my Mom so much.
Michael You are incorrigible but looking good at first. Are you one of those "royal watchers"?
ReplyDeleteTina I'm so glad I don't have to drive in conditions like that. I'd end up being a shut-in all winter.
ReplyDeleteZona Just think....driving on those ice covered roads would be like super-sizing sock sliding.
ReplyDeleteGee, say that fast 6 times. Super sizing sock sliding,....
ReplyDeleteLynnD I'm so glad you found your energy again. Maybe you can help me find mine. Just kidding. I'm usually doing okay but this cold has got me down a bit. I'm better but still have some congestion. On the bright side, they didn't need me today for jury duty.
ReplyDeleteJ/L I hope you feel better soon! It is nice when you get excused from jury duty.
ReplyDeleteRunning out of steam now and going to my computer stuff and sign out for the night.
Tina: omg, that is terrible watching those cars!!! I'm glad no one was run over. I cringed every time you would hear a crash. Terrible!!
