  4. hi everyone! I have to get this news to Tinka right off the bat!!

An Andy Warhol painting of singer Elvis Presley (avatar) could fetch up to $50m when sold in a New York auction in May.

Sotheby's said Double Elvis "epitomises the artist's obsessions with fame, stardom, and the public image".

The life-size painting is one of 22 pieces Warhol dedicated to the singer, and will be shown in London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong before the sale.

"Eight Elvises" was sold for $100m in a private sale in 2008.

The highest amount paid at auction for a Warhol was Green Car Crash, which went for $71.7m in 2007.

    'Cinematic quality'
In the artwork, Presley is dressed as a gun-toting cowboy, while the double of the title refers to a shadowy image of the singer in the same pose.

The painting was first displayed - along with the other artworks in the series - at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1963.

The paintings encircled the gallery, reminiscent of early film, offering the artworks "a sense of motion, giving a cinematic quality to the paintings", Sotheby's said.

The auction house said the Elvis series marked a turning point in Warhol's career, "where he made a transition from a viewer of movies to a maker of them".

Of the 22 works in the Elvis series, nine are held in museum collections.

  6. Happy Anniversary to my BFF Zona and her hubby. Have a great day you two love birds. No wonder you are so happily married. You got married on St. Patrick's Day. How lucky is that?

  7. Michael, Michael, Michael - Your enthusiasm jumped right off the screen. Is it because you plan on buying that Elvis painting for me? My birthday is in April but I don't mind waiting until May. I have a full size wall hanging of Elvis on my family room wall but I think it cost me $50.00. I will donate it to the Salvation Army if I get a $50M one for my birthday. Oh how I would love that. Thank you for finding it. How can I see a bigger picture of it? When I click on your avatar, it still isn't a very big picture.

Maureen - You look very pretty too.

  9. Lynn - I hope you have a happy peaceful day today. I think funerals are very exhausting. Take care. (((Hugs))).

  10. Dianne - I am going to read your Maxine jokes again with Jack. They are worth a second read. Thanks again for sharing.

Tina - I love that Irish blessing. There are a lot of them. I love them all. May I add that I will be dressed all in green today and Tango and Tia will have on their green fancy collars.

  11. I asked Jack if he was going to make me green pancakes for breakfast. He laughed and said "No, but I will make you some shredded wheat shortly". I guess since he is of Ukrainian descent I should not be expecting Irish meals today. I should be thankful that he is making my breakfast. Green pancakes would be fun however.

  14. Happy St Pats Day to everyone. I love this day too....fun day to celebrate...although, I'm only going to lunch so no green beer for me. We are going to a St Patricks party tomorrow.

TINK: That's what you need for Happy Hour some green beer or I've had green Pina Colada before and they were good.

MICHAEL: Don't be ignoring our worry about you by talking about Elvis!!!

Happy green day to you too, TINA. Did you ever find your long lost son?

Happy Anniversary, ZONA AND MR ZONA> Hope you have a good day. Remember to elevate!!!!

Hi MO: You look pretty in second but always first in my book!!! Glad to see you. Do you have any plans for the day?

LYNN: Hope you are having a restful day and some sunshine in your weather too. That always helps. How is your brother doing?

  20. Michael I like Elvis, too. If you want to get me something smaller that doesn't cost over a million dollars, that would be fine with me.

  21. Tinka I guess that means you won't be having corned beef and cabbage today. I won't either since my grandkids are hear and they would not enjoy it. I will be making it tomorrow, however, since they will have gone home by the time it dinnertime. It's one of my favorite meals.

  22. Dianne I see you popped in while I was typing. I hope you are having a good day. Are you wearing green?

  26. Why aren't you people making corned beef and cabbage today.

  27. OMG! Corned beef and cabbage is delish!!!

  28. Just-Lin - I love corned beef and cabbage too. Unfortunately Jack made it last week and we weren't ready for a repeat. We had salad, pork chops and apple sauce, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and peas. Jack said the green vegetables were our St. Patrick's Day celebration. Actually we went shopping this afternoon. Jack bought me daffodils, a shamrock balloon and a green milkshake from Dairy Queen. I wore my green outfit so I guess we had a pretty traditional St. Paddy's Day. We had a great day.

  29. Hi Dianne - I don't drink alcohol so I guess my green milk shake was equivalent to green beer. In my opinion it tastes much better.

  30. Michael - You disappeared. I was hoping you would give me a link to the Elvis auction.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Zona - I hope you had a great day. You two deserve the very best.

  32. To all my Irish friends I leave you with the following words. To those who have no connection to the Irish I advise you to skip my post.

    May the friendships you make,
    Be those which endure,
And all of your grey clouds
    Be small ones for sure.
    And trusting in Him
    To Whom we all pray,
May a song fill your heart,
    Every step of the way.

Good Night. Sweet Dreams. God bless. Love, Tink
