Ro's House

by Michael

I wonder why Rosie is selling her favorite place to be in the world.....

With her talk show on Oprah's network canceled after just one season—today being it's last day on the air—comedienne, chat show host and lefty-liberal motor mouth Rosie O'Donnell no longer needed or wanted the townhouse she bought a few months ago for $2,250,000 and sold a few weeks ago for $2,500,000.

Apparently the Nyack (NY)-based Rosie O' also doesn't need or want her mansion in Miami Beach, FL because today word comes down the celebrity real estate street via the South Beach Condo Blog (SBCB) that she somewhat surprisingly listed her Star Island estate with an asking price of $19,500,000.

Records show Miz O' picked up the waterfront property in March 1999 for $6,750,000. The Dade County Tax Man shows the just over 1-acre pie-shaped parcel has 203 feet of water frontage with private boat dock. Listing information reveals Rosie O's estate includes an 11,104 square foot main mansion plus two separate and private guesthouses. Listing information also indicates there are 12 bedrooms and 11.5 bathrooms on the property including a "vast master suite" complete with private office, sitting room, fireplace and waterside terrace.

The handsome devil at the SBCB says the estate "has been upgraded from when she originally purchased the property" and listing information reveals there's a "professional kitc[hen]" and "impressive millwork." Outside there's a large motor court that wraps around a giant tree, lots of tropical landscaping that includes a privacy screen of foliage along the water front, various dining and lounging terraces, a built-in barbecue station, and a kidney bean-shaped swimming pool.

Other high-profile residents of Star Island include music mogul Tommy Motola, Miami Beach royal Gloria Estefan, showbiz entrepreneur Sean Combs who makes everyone take off their kicks before going inside, shoe tycoon Donald J. Pliner whose house has a fab key-shaped swimming pool, and German property developer Thomas Kramer who appeared in all his kinda-creepy glory on The Real Housewives of Atlanta as one of Kim Zolciak's friends.

Although her house is priced the lowest Miz O'Donnell may face some stiff competition from her neighbors. There are currently at least five other Star Island estates listed on the open market with asking prices from $19,999,999 to $35,000,000.

  2. Nice house, but I hear there's lots of bugs and other critters in Florida, so I wouldn't wanna live there. Otherwise, I'd snap it right up. Thanks for showing it, Michael. :)

  4. well I love the fact that the house is done simply....the other homes on Star Island that are for sale are garish and gaudy. I hate that jewish baroque palace looking shit...

And that banyan tree is fantastic...Rosies daughter Vivian climbs it....

And...you can just jump in your boat and be zipping around Biscayne Bay in minutes! With the dolphins!

And the prices of this type of real estate blow my mind. $7 million 13 years ago and now $19.5?

These places stay on the market forever many times...

Is there a tax advantage to having a house on the market? At a ridiculous price?

And why is she giving it up? She always has said its the place where she is the happiest...

  6. Hi Everyone.

I'm sitting here for the next two hours at the pain management center waiting for Louis. Boy, I hope this works!!!

I wouldn't mind having this house with the beach and dolphins being right there. I think I could adjust. It would be my winter home. Ahhhh. Dreaming. Thanks for writing the blog, Michael

Zona, is it really going to be 104 this weekend at ur house? U will be jumping in that pool soon. The heat I coulddo without especially in April.

I'm sure glad I have this IPad to play with while I wait.

  10. Good Afternoon Tina, Barb, Michael and Dianne.

Michael - The house is great but I am very interested in why she would want to sell the place that she loved so much. Perhaps her new love wants to live in a different part of the world.

This will be a short post as I have had a frustrating day. I had a workman due at 11:00. I had told him it was necessary for health reasons that I am off my feet from 12 until 2. He promised he would be here on time. Well at l:20 I find out he can't come today but will be here tomorrow. I had another workman coming to put in safety hand rails in the bathroom. He was to be here at 3:00. I didn't want to be asleep when he arrived so I waited. At 3:15 he phoned and said he couldn't be here today and would come at nine on Friday. Right now I have a very sore back and legs so I am off to bed. I will be back tomorrow. Sorry about coming on the blog and do nothing but whine. I will be better in the morning. Have a great evening Owls. Love you all.

  13. Tina I'm glad you didn't pick up the Boston accent but it is a fun place to visit, isn't it? Oh, and you look mahvelous in first, as always.

  14. Michael Interesting house. I bet the humidity is bad, though. Maybe Rosie's happy times there happened before things went bad between her and her ex.

  15. SacBarb Very sad about Dick Clark. I remember rushing home from school when I was in fourth grade so I could watch American Bandstand. It was filmed in Philadelphia in those days. I basically learned to dance watching that show. Remember The Stroll?

  16. Dianne I sure hope Louis is feeling some relief by now.

  17. Tinka I'm sorry about the situation with the workmen. Don't worry about the whine. We all do it here from time to time. It's called "being real". : )

  18. MO Jewish baroque. I was wondering the same thing. lol

  19. J/L~ omg....LOVE Boston...LOVE!!!~

Tinka~ I get so mad when "they" say they are coming at a certain time....and then don't.....and they really shouldn't do that to a lady with hot cross buns~ ijs~ :)~

    Di~ How's Louis?~

  20. Yes Maureen that is what I should do. I don't like waiting for people especially after I had spent two hours undergoing tests at the doctors before this long wait. I must learn to be more patient. I know that.

Dianne - I hope Louis is doing better.

Zona - I missed our daily talk. We will make up for it tomorrow, that is if the screen man comes on time.

Barb - I felt bad when I heard of Dick Clark's death. He leaves a lot of happy memories however. I hope that can be said of all of us.

Tina - I think Michael should buy you that house. We could all visit you in the winter. Wouldn't you love that? LOL

  21. This comment was written right after Maureen's "cheese" comment but for some reason it didn't post. There it is above only two hours late.

  22. Just-Lin - Thanks for giving me permission to whine. I don't like to bring the blog down.

  23. Tina - If I could only relax when I know repairmen are coming but I can't. I keep watching the clock getting more annoyed as time goes by. We will see how I can put that into practice tomorrow and Friday. "If they come, they come," that will be my new motto.

  24. Yay Tinka~

Barb~ I was so bummed to read ur post about Dick Clark~ LOVED watching American Bandstand~ :(

  25. Tina - I loved American Bandstand too so it goes back a lot of years. I also loved his count down to the New Year. I felt so sorry to hear him try and speak clearly these past few years but I give him credit for trying.

I am going off to bed. We watched the last episode of 15 years of E.R. last night. Tonight we begin the series "Bones". I have never seen it, nor has Jack so we bought 3 years sight unseen. I hope it's good.

    Good Night All. Sleep tight.

  26. Tina...weren't you actually ON American Bandstand in the late 50's??

I found this video of "Strolling" and I believe thats you taking the first stroll!!!

  27. lmbo...nope....that wasn't me...I wasn't born yet....but I saw you at just before the 2 minute mark....in the skirt~ :)~

  28. JUST LIN...I have been thinking about it.

Maybe Jewish baroque is when the upholstry is blintz, not chintz. And there are matzo ball finials. Perhaps Loud Mouth Billy Bass is Good Grief Gefilte Fish. And your land is a latke, not a lot.

My household is not Baroque, but Broke.

  29. I loved American Bandstand. I give it a 10. It had a good beat and was easy to dance to!

It was on at 1 on Saturday afternoon here. There was an Orthodox teenager across the street and she would have me turn on the TV so she could watch it and then I would turn off the TV when it was over.

It certainly is the end of an era. He really fought hard after his stroke.

  30. Michael Thanks for the link to The Stroll but those kids had no sense of rhythm at all! The regulars on American Bandstand were much better.

  31. Hi Guys!

MICHAEL: I don't know..although pretty..that house seems awfully stark and cold to me..there's no real 'kids lived here and we had fun' touches..Is Rosie still living there..or do you think the realtors have staged it this way to sell it?

TINA: I don't like what they did in that book AT ALL!!

DI: I pray that the shot worked and that Louis is awake and feeling better!

BARB: So sad about Dick Clark..I watched AB every Saturday morning when I was a kid.

TINKA: Oh no!!! I can't believe they did that to you! Dang it! I absolutely hate when that happens! I am not a patient person when it comes to waiting for repairmen..I tend to pace..and if they didn't show up after all that walkin' I'd be upset!

J/LIN: I don't remember 'The Stroll' but I do remember seeing 'The Hustle'..boy they wore a lot of polyester..LOL!!

MO: My house is Broke too.. ;D

I better go finish making Randy's dinner..and then get back to my book so I can get mad all over again!!

    Good night everyone..sweet dreams! :)

  32. Hi---well we ended being at the dr for over four hours. They put Louis out for the procedure and then they had a hard time getting his legs moving again. His pain is bad tonight.
Thanks all for asking about him.
