There were two Catholic boys, Timothy Murphy and Antonio Secola, whose lives paralleled each other in amazing ways. In the same year, Timothy was born in Ireland , Antonio was born in Italy .
Faithfully they attended parochial school from kindergarten through their senior year in high school. They took their vows to enter the priesthood early in college, and upon graduation, became priests.
Their careers had come to amaze the world, but it was generally acknowledged that Antonio Secola was just a wee cut above Timothy Murphy in all respects.
Their rise through the ranks of Bishop, Archbishop and finally Cardinal was swift to say the least and the Catholic world knew
that when the present Pope died, it would be one of the two who would become the next Pope.
In time the Pope did die, and the College of Cardinals went to work. In less time than anyone had expected, white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel chimney and the world waited to see whom they had chosen.
The world, Catholic, Protestant and secular, was surprised to learn that Timothy Murphy had been elected Pope!
Antonio Secola was beyond surprise. He was devastated, because even with all of Timothy's gifts, Antonio knew he was just a bit better qualified.
With gall that shocked the Cardinals, Antonio Secola asked for a private session with them in which he candidly asked:"Why Timothy ?"
After a long silence, an old Cardinal took pity on the bewildered man and rose to reply.
"We knew you were the better of the two, but we just could not bear
the thought of the leader of the Roman Catholic Church being called
POPE SE-COLA !
Dianne LOL Good morning!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon J/L. You are looking spiffy today.
ReplyDeleteDianne, LOL Good story.
I hope everyone is doing well today. Is anyone going to a St. Paddy's day parties. Watch out for that green beer.
Barb, I'm going to one tomorrow. My uncle always has a big party. No green beer but he serves green pina coladas. If you drink too many it makes your you know what green...seriously. That happened one year and I thought I had food poisoning or something ...nope green booze.
ReplyDeleteToday I had a nice lunch with my deceased husbands daughter and young adult kids. We always try and keep in touch and also get together a few times a year. It's nice to keep that up after all these years. The kids even still call me Grandma Dianne....warms my old heart.
JL, you do look spiffy nd I love your green jammies. How perfect for the weekend. Tomorrow you can wear your green teddy!!!
Jodi and Mary, what are you doing today? Are you drinking that green beer and doing the Irish jig?
Think I'll take a short nap while my load of laundry washes.
SacBarb No Irish parties for me but I am making my corned beef and cabbage today since I am meeting friends for breakfast tomorrow and going out to dinner with other friends. The corned beef is smelling really good.
ReplyDeleteDianne It sounds like you had a very nice day. I doubt I'll be in a green teddy tomorrow but life is full of surprises so you never know.
ReplyDeleteJl, if you are first in the AM, I'm counting on combed neat hair and a green teddy and no mascara smeared all over your face. You can be ours leprechaun tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWe could have our own little party with some of the good old green Jell-O shots ...it will be like the old days only just a smaller group. Barb...Mary...Jodi..JL...you guys up for it? Barb, could you bring some of that yummy (no creams) Sees candy again too?

ReplyDeleteUsed to like nuts, but too hard on my teeth now.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll bring creams and nutz. I have a recipe for Margarita Jello shots using lime Jello and triple sec. I will bring a bunch.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow my baby boy will be 39. I can't believe it. I don't know how I got old enough to have kids that old!
"Jello ladies", that's Spanish for "hello!" lol!
ReplyDeleteJustlin, I hope you know your green jammies are "see through" right? I hope you don't have plans to go to WalMart!!
I'm in for the party!! I will bring my green enchiladas with green chili!
I have been bust with our Zoie. We are not sure what is wrong, but if she isn't better by Monday she is going to the vet. She may have strained a muscle in her hine leg jumping from our bed. We have stairs for her, but she still flies off when she hears something. Tonight when we got home she heard us come in, but never left the bed. Just waited until we set her down. I wish she could tell us where it hurts :( I have massaged her all over gently so I know there are no broken bones. She squirms when I press too hard on her back hip.
BTW, "Pope Acola" BWAHA HA HA HA!!!!!
Barb, Happy Birthday to your son. 39? psaw! My boys are 45 & 46!
ReplyDeleteMary For everyone's sake, let's hope my teddy is NOT see-through.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the pupster. Could very well be her hip or lower back.
Barb, happy Birthday to your son. I don't know how either we got old enough to have these kids!!! I think margarita shots sound great.
ReplyDeleteMary, hope your doggie is better. Enchiladas yum.
JL is the entertainment !!!

Barb, don't forget my nuts and I'll share with Tina.
Yikes! I'm the entertainment? Maybe I should get out my baton.
ReplyDeleteSweet dreams, HOoters!
OK, it is officially St. Patrick's Day so I'm leaving the Jello shots in the fridge and See's candy in the dining room. There should be enough for everyone. I have also left green top hats and shamrock pins for everyone. Have fun. BBL.
