This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
Not much going on here today. Going to start on the scrapbook for the youngest son. Gathering pics today. It will have some of the same pics as the other two, but a lot of different ones, too. This one will also have 25 double sided pages. I have until March to finish it for his birthday.
BARB - Kudos to u for making those albums!! I haven't put anything in an album since Jake was a toddler. Although with the advent of myspace and facebook, at least I know where to find some of them ;)
Meant to say not driving to work in the snow for being retired.
Went to lunch with three friends today and one we hadn't seen in ten years. She's 73 and busy going to Africa next week, Zumba and line dancing classes. Wow!!
Dianne It seems you keep as busy as Jodi. I don't mind going to the movies alone but I've gotten out of the habit of doing it. It is more fun to watch the Oscars when you've at least seen some of the nominated movies.
So it's 2:25 am...and my son Tim and my car are NOT home. Tried calling, but it's going right to voicemail.....grrrr!!! Looks like I have some butt to kick, and a walk to work this morning :/
Well, no sooner had I posted about Tim, and the garage door opened. Hopefully the late night will pay off. His truck is just about done and I think he has a local buyer for his car!! Whoopie!!!
Yesterday Jake went with a friend to go tubing down the Sugar River. When he came home he was hobbling a bit. Dumb kid swung down out of a tree into the river and landed on a branch in the river. He has a big ole knot just forward and lower than his ankle. OY!!! Doesn't do much towards his recovery and goal to get back in the game.
HOdi Good thing the car got back to you in time or Tim would have been in deep doo-doo. It's good that Jake didn't get anything worse than that knot. Kids! Geez!
Jodi, Boys! I know what you mean. The houses across the street from me back up to the American River levee and one of the big oak trees has always had a rope swing attached to a limb that hangs out over the river. Despite our protests, all our boys have put a lot of time in on that swing with varying degrees of injuries occurring. BTW, the Dept. of Fish and Game rangers cut it down when they patrol the levee, but somehow it miraculously reappears within a short time. LOL
J/L, I'm going to have to start going to the movies by myself if I want to see anymore potentially nominated movies. Sharon is so busy that it's hard finding time to go together.
Hi...well, both appts went well and I don't have to go back for a year. Thanks for the good vibes.
After my appt , I was driving on a busy street and stopped for a red light and my foot must have slipped but I hit the car in front of me. Kind of rolled hard into it. No damage but unfortunately, it was a govt vehicle with two Air Force people in it. Very nice guy but had to call police since it was a govt car. Blah!! I received a careless driving ticket. The police said normally nothing since no damage but since I touched a govt car.ticket!! I almost started crying like a big baby!!
The nice policeman was like a Keystone Cop. He accidentally gave my license to the other guy that drove away. He had me sign the ticket and told me to call the court number on ticket and then forgot to give it to me. He told me to go ahead and leave without my license and he'd get it to me. He called me about five minutes later and said he had it so I just pulled into a side street and waited he then called back to tell me he dropped it in the street ...ok soooo? Then he found it and came to me to deliver it. I reminded him that I didn't have a copy of the ticket to call. He said the sun was getting to him!!
Being the awesome Mom that I am, I took Jake to his away game yesterday. *even though he can't play yet* But we ended up having a great evening together. His team lost, but it was the ride home that was the adventure! I've been to the town that they played at before, but navigating our way home was a little nutty. Damn GPS took us down a windy ass back road. Good grief!!! By the time we got home it was after 10pm and I was damn near peeing my pants from laughing so hard. Probably not the way he had envisioned spending his b'day, but at least we got to spend it together!
Should be an interesting day at work. My store leader and our food service leader have to spend the day at our newest store in Janesville. I'm left with the gal he is training to be an asst store leader. She is technically in charge, but he told her I would help her. She started training on our bookkeeping system last week. Every day it has been an uphill battle with this one. I only pray she gets the bookwork done before I'm done for the day. Been doing A LOT of breathing ;) It's hard when someone else is doing your job. I know what works, but sometimes you have to let them make their own mistakes so they can learn. *keeping fingers crossed that today goes smoothly*!!!
HOdi Glad you had a good day with your boy and that you made it home, finally!
It's hard to let someone else do your job when they don't know what they're doing. It's so much easier to just do it yourself, right? I think I have a bit of a "controller" in me. LOL
Barb Years ago there was a rope swing up in the mountains above my house. The neighbor boy fell from it and hit his head and was in a coma for 11 days. He was never the same after that. I know those swings look like so much fun but things can sure go badly.
SLIN - That's why I'm not a very good trainer. But today went surprisingly well. She was about 2 hours ahead of where she was yesterday!!! I think she is finally getting it! And I was able to get out of there at noon :)
Dianne, what a day with Barney Fife eh? I did a "bump" a few weeks ago, luckily it was only the yellow post in front of a store. Whew! My Jeep "surged" forward all by itself. That's my story and......... Jim managed to get the "yellow" off my bumper lol!
Jodi, hooray for the Gals (and your) good day. You must be an awesome trainer :)
JL, I LOL @ "I'm sure you don't have Alzheimer's. After all, you still remember to show up here and you know our names."
Barb, I think I will start going to movies again. Prolly in the day. Jim gets nervous when park after dark, but not nervous enough to take me lol!
A friend of the family's 89 yr old Dad was killed early this morning. They take turns staying with him. This morning he some how managed to get in his car, drive over 60 miles from home, onto the free way, going the wrong way. He hit head on to a Semi truck. They had plans to take his care today on the ruse that it needed an oil change, and planned on keeping it away from him. He must have caught on and decided to leave. He was a very stubborn man. Would have nothing to do with a nursing home, but couldn't take are of himself. Makes me sad. I know we will all be there some day and hope we can cope with all the changes and handing over our care to others. Time will tell eh?
On a good note, I still remember who all of you are :)
Jodi, you for sure must be a good trainer. I'm glad today was a good day for you. Sounds like you and jake had a good day the other day/night. You are one busy lady.
Mary, well you are lucky you just bumped into a post...no tickets. My son is checking into that for me as he said I sjouldnt have received a ticket when there is no,damage. We shall see what comes of it.
Did I tell you all that my daughter got a mortgage processing job this week? She starts Tuesday. She has worked from home for a long time but I think this will be good for her to be more focused and a steady income ...yea!!!!
Barb, I always say I'll go to the movies alone and then I forget to go. I'm not one to watch one on TV (except for Ma Ma Mia or Wizrd Of Oz). Won't be long until your trip. Are you getting excited?
JL, I think I have a bit of that controller in me too. I was never a good delegator at work...notime a great one. Lol
Dianne That sounds great that your daughter got a new job. It is nice to have a steady paycheck, that's for sure. I hope it works out for her. Also, what neat timing that your old rehab place called you about volunteering. They must really like you.
Mary So sorry about the older gentleman. It sounds like he didn't kill anyone else, thank God. My mother voluntarily gave up driving when she started to feel uncomfortable about it and that was mostly due to vision problems where she didn't have good depth perception anymore. I'm glad we didn't have to force her to give up driving because that's a big deal and really erodes one's self-dependence.
J/L, My Mom gave up driving on her won, too. She told us she was going to give up her license when it came up for renewal in June of '88 and she would give her car to my youngest son. Then in January, she called and told me to come and pick up her car, she wasn't going to wait until June. I don't know what happened but I think she was driving and something scared her. She was 79 1/2.
My Dad, on the other hand, was very resistant and wouldn't give up driving until after he had a few fender benders. Thankfully, none of them were serious, but one of them was due to going the wrong way down a one-way street. He insisted on keeping his keys, however, so to appease the stubborn old Italian, my Hubby exchanged his car key one with a bogus one just in case he decided to take a drive one day.
Dianne, Volunteering at the rehab place sounds like a good thing. Then, you can get to know all the PTs and who are the best ones, for future reference.
I am starting to get a little excited about my trip. Already got a suitcase in the spare bedroom and I'm putting things in there that Imight want to take with me. I am going to TRY to pack light, because we will have to be schlepping our bags all over. We are going to spend a week in four different places.
MARY - So sorry about your friends Dad. I remember when my Grandpa stopped driving. Not an easy decision for a truck driver. But he knew it was time. He was in his mid 80's. God bless him. And God bless u 2 for remembering all of us ;-)
Barb I personally find it very difficult but do your best to pack light. It's no fun schlepping suitcases up and down stairs and on and off of trains, etc.
I got up early to do a little sale/bra shopping. I hate shopping for bras! I do have a few faves, but it seems they like to faze them out a lot! My girlfriend and I shopped and had lunch and discussed our trip to Spain next spring. It is fun having something to look forward to.
I am also supposed to go on a week long trip with my old co workers next spring to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I may have to cancel that if the Mr starts having palpitations lol! He is not a fan of my trips, but never tries to stop me, just sort-of kind-of hints lol!
Dianne, good for your daughter and good for you! I like good news!
Barb, I am getting excited for you! I would love to be a little mini Mary hiding in your luggage, well 'cept when you stuff your dirty laundry in there lol!!
JL,My Father had a couple fender benders before handing over his keys. I think he got frightened like your Mom and was afraid of hurting someone.
Hodi,I don't think Barb is buying our little funky ideas on her taking a cruise hee hee!
Mary You have some fun trips coming up next year. Don't let Jim guilt you out of it. You only live once. Take advantage of having the time, money, and someone to travel with.
I had a little "me" time today. I went North to the Indian Casino. I came back with more than I took, so it was worth the trip :) Other than that, it was a pretty hot and humdrum day. I think I made it rain later today... I washed my car!
"I" guess it was a "me" day today, I just counted all the times I just wrote "I" LOL!!!
We're going to the mountains and casinos for the weekend. We leave tomorrow and come back on Monday. It will be nice to get away. I hope I win some money. I hope a lot actually. Maybe it will be a little cooler there. Oh well, we want be outside much. It's about 2-3 hours from here.
Went to the dentist today and was there for a long time for a cleaning and two fillings....and lots of money.
Mary and barb...fun trips to look forward to. It's always fun to look forward to something. I agree with JL....go on these trips while you are able....you me never know.
MARY - Your trips sound fun next year. I may have to investigate some place closer for our 25th. Not sure Paul would tolerate that 9 hour flight to Hawaii ;)
BARB - I'm working this weekend *the end of a 7 in a row stretch*, and am looking forward to having Monday off. Paul and Jake are going with my FIL to the Badger football game today. It's our home opener! Tim and I are going to the races out at Angell Park tomorrow night. It's the Pepsi Nationals.
SLIN - I hope you survived your work day. I worked at the new store in Janesville yesterday. What a beautiful store!! And boy did they have the deals....2/$1 hamburgers and $1.99 ice cream 1/2 gallons just to name a couple. It was crazy busy!!! Looking forward to doing my own books this weekend!! Get everything back to how I like it ;)
Mary checking in! Just a lazy Sat. here. We rarely go anywhere on Labor Day week end. Too much traffic on our roads. Being retired we just go when we want, so week ends aren't anything to get excited about lol! I hope everyone is safe and enjoying their week end.
Survived my 7 day stretch!! Crazy busy weekend!! Just got back from Sam's store. A couple of my begonia plants look like crap, so I am replacing them with 2 beautiful garden mums! They had them marked 2/$12.
Heading out soon to Angell Park. Its the last race of the season. Should be good racing and I get to meet the girl Tim is sweet on :-D
SLIN - I never met her. I don't know what happened, but he was pretty quiet and sat with us most of the night :/ We are going shopping today so I'll try to get it out of him then! I have Wednesday off, too. Think I will go see The Butler then :)
Good morning, HOoters!
ReplyDeleteTina Thanks for the upbeat music this morning. I liked the song. Why don't you come talk to us?
Happy Sunday Hooters.
ReplyDeleteI went to see The Butler today. Excellent movie and a bit of a tear jerker.
Waving a wing to all the Owls.Hope you are all having a great day.
I want to see The Butler. You forgot to take me, Barb!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing showing where the blog is supposed to be on my page. Oh well..
Did our fantasy football today. I don't like my team much. Never heard of some of them....but it's always fun
Good evening JL not much going on here today. Doing some laundry tonight.
Crazy week ahead...two different cancer check ups, dentist and hair plus throw in a couple of lunches and that's my week.
Hope you all are having a good day
TINA - Snappy tune!!
ReplyDeleteBARB - The mullet count was surprisingly low....only about 5 or 6. And all locals!!! lol!!
ReplyDeleteThe Butler is also on my "to see" list. DIANNE let's go!!!
ReplyDeleteWishing everyone a good week! It's going to be a hot and humid one here. Praying they got the a/c fixed at work *crossing fingers*!!
ReplyDeleteMornin', HOoters!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing The Butler. I may go next week with friends. I'll make sure I take tissue with me.
Dianne You do have a busy week. I hope all goes well, especially the cancer check ups.
ReplyDeleteHOdi LOL @ counting the mullets.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday HOoters.
ReplyDeleteNot much going on here today. Going to start on the scrapbook for the youngest son. Gathering pics today. It will have some of the same pics as the other two, but a lot of different ones, too. This one will also have 25 double sided pages. I have until March to finish it for his birthday.
Jodi, How disappointing there weren't more mullets. Glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteJ/L, The movie only made me teary in a couple of parts.
ReplyDeleteDianne, Sorry, I didn't know you wanted to see the Butler. I'll check with you next time we go to a movie.
ReplyDeleteBarb Sorry to break it to you but it is Monday, not Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteSLIN - I had to do a double take on the calendar to make sure!! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteBARB - Kudos to u for making those albums!! I haven't put anything in an album since Jake was a toddler. Although with the advent of myspace and facebook, at least I know where to find some of them ;)
ReplyDeleteHeading to bed. Have a good night HOoters :)
ReplyDeleteOh...being retire we don't know one day from the next. That and not driving to work and not getting up,early are all pluses.
ReplyDeleteBarb, please do start checking with me on the movies. I'll go in the next couple of weeks. ...probably all alone...sniff sniff unless Jodi flies out.
Jodi, hope the had that a/c working for you. I'd stay home if it didnt work!!! Guess I'd get fired.
JL..thanks for the good wishes. Today went well just hope the blood is normal and I'm off to my next one tomorrow. Fourteen years on the melanoma.
Meant to say not driving to work in the snow for being retired.
ReplyDeleteWent to lunch with three friends today and one we hadn't seen in ten years. She's 73 and busy going to Africa next week, Zumba and line dancing classes. Wow!!
J/L, I don't how I got today mixed up. I was a little mixed up all weekend. Maybe it's early onset Alzheimers?
ReplyDeleteDianne It seems you keep as busy as Jodi. I don't mind going to the movies alone but I've gotten out of the habit of doing it. It is more fun to watch the Oscars when you've at least seen some of the nominated movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad your appointment went well today.
Barb I'm sure you don't have Alzheimer's. After all, you still remember to show up here and you know our names. :)
ReplyDeleteDIANNE - The a/c was better!! Sending good juju to you for your tests! Love u lady ♥
ReplyDeleteBARB - No worries...but I'm sure it's not "the oldtimers" ;)
ReplyDeleteSo it's 2:25 am...and my son Tim and my car are NOT home. Tried calling, but it's going right to voicemail.....grrrr!!! Looks like I have some butt to kick, and a walk to work this morning :/
ReplyDeleteWell, no sooner had I posted about Tim, and the garage door opened. Hopefully the late night will pay off. His truck is just about done and I think he has a local buyer for his car!! Whoopie!!!
ReplyDeleteYesterday Jake went with a friend to go tubing down the Sugar River. When he came home he was hobbling a bit. Dumb kid swung down out of a tree into the river and landed on a branch in the river. He has a big ole knot just forward and lower than his ankle. OY!!! Doesn't do much towards his recovery and goal to get back in the game.
ReplyDeleteBOYS!!!
HOdi Good thing the car got back to you in time or Tim would have been in deep doo-doo. It's good that Jake didn't get anything worse than that knot. Kids! Geez!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday HOoters, for real this time.
ReplyDeleteJodi, Boys! I know what you mean. The houses across the street from me back up to the American River levee and one of the big oak trees has always had a rope swing attached to a limb that hangs out over the river. ReplyDeleteDianne, I hope today's appointment goes as well for you.
ReplyDeleteYooHoooooo, Maaaarrrry. Slow down for a minute and check in.
ReplyDeleteHi...well, both appts went well and I don't have to go back for a year. Thanks for the good vibes.

And how was your day?
Dianne, LOL @ your Keystone cop. After all that he should have torn up the ticket! How much is it gonna cost you?
ReplyDeleteSLIN - I know, right?!!?
ReplyDeleteBARB - Happy Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteDIANNE - Woot Woot!! And boy what an adventure ;)
ReplyDeleteBeing the awesome Mom that I am, I took Jake to his away game yesterday. *even though he can't play yet* But we ended up having a great evening together. ReplyDeleteDianne Sorry about the ticket. That cop was really messing up, wasn't he? Geez! Was his name Columbo?
HOdi Glad you had a good day with your boy and that you made it home, finally!

ReplyDeleteGood evening gals!
Busy day as usual...

My old rehab place called me today and we are setting up,a time to talk about volunteering I'm excited about that now that I lost my pt job and boss
ReplyDeleteDianne That sounds great that your daughter got a new job. It is nice to have a steady paycheck, that's for sure. I hope it works out for her. Also, what neat timing that your old rehab place called you about volunteering. They must really like you.
ReplyDeleteMary So sorry about the older gentleman. It sounds like he didn't kill anyone else, thank God. I'm glad we didn't have to force her to give up driving because that's a big deal and really erodes one's self-dependence.
ReplyDeleteHOdi Sounds like your trainee is on the right track. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHello HOoters.
ReplyDeleteJ/L, My Mom gave up driving on her won, too. She told us she was going to give up her license when it came up for renewal in June of '88 and she would give her car to my youngest son. Then in January, she called and told me to come and pick up her car, she wasn't going to wait until June. I don't know what happened but I think she was driving and something scared her. Hello Jodi, Mary, Tina, and all you others out there who may be lurking. Come on in, the water's fine!
ReplyDeleteTesting 1,2,3....
ReplyDeleteYeah!! It works!! Finally figured out how to post from my new phone.
ReplyDeleteMARY - So sorry about your friends Dad. I remember when my Grandpa stopped driving. Not an easy decision for a truck driver. But he knew it was time. He was in his mid 80's. God bless him. And God bless u 2 for remembering all of us ;-)
ReplyDeleteDIANNE - Congrats to your daughter on her new job!! And how great that your rehab place asked u to volunteer :-)
ReplyDeleteSLIN - She is progressing every day!! It felt good when she thanked me today for being patient with her!!
ReplyDeleteBARB - I'm getting excited for u :-) No big trip planned in my near future. So I guess I will just live vicariously thru u!!
ReplyDeleteP.s. How would u know how the water is? Do u have your bedazzled life jacket on? ;-) Ha!!!
TINA - How does it feel to be able to run around nekkid, now that your nest is empty?!!?
ReplyDeleteBarb I personally find it very difficult but do your best to pack light. It's no fun schlepping suitcases up and down stairs and on and off of trains, etc.
ReplyDeleteHOdi I'm visualizing Barb in her Bedazzled life jacket. LOL
ReplyDeleteJodi, LOL, not I don't have a bedazzled life jacket, but I did stick my newly pedicured toe in the water. ;)
ReplyDeleteJ/L, I'll let you know how successful I am. I wish I had a lighter weight suitcase. I may shop around and see what's out there.
ReplyDeleteBarb...just take grocery bags
ReplyDeleteALLLLLLL0000000!!
ReplyDeleteMary here checking in!
I got up early to do a little sale/bra shopping. I hate shopping for bras! I do have a few faves, but it seems they like to faze them out a lot!
My girlfriend and I shopped and had lunch and discussed our trip to Spain next spring. It is fun having something to look forward to.

Hodi,I don't think Barb is buying our little funky ideas on her taking a cruise hee hee!
Barb Your trip is going to be so great! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteDianne LMAO at grocery bags!!!!
ReplyDeleteMary You have some fun trips coming up next year. Don't let Jim guilt you out of it. You only live once. Take advantage of having the time, money, and someone to travel with.
ReplyDeleteDianne, LOL @ grocery bags. Good idea, they don't weigh much. ;)
ReplyDeleteHello HOoters.
ReplyDeleteNot much going on here today. Got pics together to start Todd's scrapbook.
No big plans for the weekend until Monday. Getting together with the Jennifers to make cards.
Have a good weekend everyone.
I had a little "me" time today. I went North to the Indian Casino. I came back with more than I took, so it was worth the trip :)
ReplyDeleteOther than that, it was a pretty hot and humdrum day.
ReplyDeleteWent to the dentist today and was there for a long time for a cleaning and two fillings....and lots of money.
Mary and barb...fun trips to look forward to. It's always fun to look forward to something. I agree with JL....go on these trips while you are able....you me never know.
Jodi..Are you working this weekend?
Hi, HOoters! At first I typed "Hoters". That works, too. LOL
ReplyDeleteBusy day today. Actually worked today and then did housework, too. I'm not used to this. LOL
BARB - Well....here's to at least getting your toe in the water!! lol!!
ReplyDeleteMARY - Your trips sound fun next year. I may have to investigate some place closer for our 25th. Not sure Paul would tolerate that 9 hour flight to Hawaii ;)
ReplyDeleteDIANNE - Loved your idea of grocery bags!! MARY and I got some great ones in Waikiki from the ABC Store!
ReplyDeleteBARB - I'm working this weekend *the end of a 7 in a row stretch*, and am looking forward to having Monday off. Paul and Jake are going with my FIL to the Badger football game today. It's our home opener! Tim and I are going to the races out at Angell Park tomorrow night. It's the Pepsi Nationals.
ReplyDeleteSLIN - I hope you survived your work day. I worked at the new store in Janesville yesterday. What a beautiful store!! And boy did they have the deals....2/$1 hamburgers and $1.99 ice cream 1/2 gallons just to name a couple. It was crazy busy!!! Looking forward to doing my own books this weekend!! Get everything back to how I like it ;)
ReplyDeleteMary checking in!
ReplyDeleteJust a lazy Sat. here. We rarely go anywhere on Labor Day week end. Too much traffic on our roads. Being retired we just go when we want, so week ends aren't anything to get excited about lol!
I hope everyone is safe and enjoying their week end.
Mary Pretty lazy day here for me, too. Did go Gross-ry shopping and then out to dinner with friends. Plan to see "The Butler" tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSurvived my 7 day stretch!! Crazy busy weekend!! Just got back from Sam's store. A couple of my begonia plants look like crap, so I am replacing them with 2 beautiful garden mums! They had them marked 2/$12.
ReplyDeleteHeading out soon to Angell Park. Its the last race of the season. Should be good racing and I get to meet the girl Tim is sweet on :-D
Saw The Butler today. It was very good.
ReplyDeleteHOdi What did you think of Tim's girlfriend?
SLIN - I never met her. I don't know what happened, but he was pretty quiet and sat with us most of the night :/ We are going shopping today so I'll try to get it out of him then! I have Wednesday off, too. Think I will go see The Butler then :)
ReplyDeleteTINA - DID YOU GET MY TEXTS?!!?
