A.A.A.D.D.- KNOW THE SYMPTOMS!

by Sac Barb

Age-Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
And notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...

But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
So I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside
So that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
A vase of flowers on the counter
Catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
But first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter ,
Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
But first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
Get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed,
The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
And I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

  2. SLIN - We had a blast last night! The drag queen that hosts bingo is a friend of Alex and Dustin's. I had met him at the last game night I attended. Really great guy. Looks fabulous as a gal, but also plays hockey in a gay league here in Madison!!

  3. DIANNE - Sam turns 21 in August, but because I was there she was allowed to come in. Total hoot!! I actually won last night, but gave my prize to her gays. It was a bag of fun that they would enjoy more than Paul and I would....just sayin' ;)

  4. Heading out soon to pick up Aunt Jane. She and I are meeting GOLDIE for lunch today. We then are going shopping afterward. She has some stuff to exchange from the holidays and I have some time to kill before I have to pick Jake up for PT.

Have a great day HOoters ♥

  5. Barb LOL I've seen this before and it's getting more and more like me as time goes on. I'll go to the store with a list and still forget to get something that's on it.

  6. HOdi LOL and the gift bag. My imagination is running wild.

  7. Jodi is all purdi perched up there as #1 today :)

lol,Barb, that as hilarious!! I kind of have the opposite going on. I have worked for General Motors and Chrysler for most of my adult life so I am "task-save-steps"oriented. Example..when I take dishes out of the dish washer, I make sure I have all things that go to that particular side of the kitchen in my hands. Or if going outside I put recyclables, trash, etc by the door to save trips. You would think after being retired for over 10 yrs, I would h ave trashed those habits lol!!
I do the usual running to the bedroom to get something and forget what it was!
At work we had a small area to work in. We had about 45sec. to do our job on each car, so every sec. counted and had to be super organized! 8hrs of this! I even have to make sure every part of my cooking is done and ready to put on the table at the same time. It really helps having a double oven lol!!
Ok, I have just worn myself out re reading this bwah ha ha!!

  8. Interesting day. Aunt Jane called me this morning before I left and told me that my Uncle Kenny's ex-wife's husband passed away early this morning. After I got back from going out to lunch, Jane called me again and asked if I had checked FB. Evidently our Cousin Debbie that lives in Ohio is an unexpected Grandma today. Her daughter Autumn gave birth to a healthy baby girl in her shower this morning. Had no idea she was even pregnant!! Definitely a circle of life day.

  9. HOdi Wow! It was quite a day for your family. Did you know the deceased? As for having the baby in the shower....yikes! I still don't understand how someone can go through 9 months of gestation and not know they are pregnant.

  10. Mary I never had a job such as yours but I'm quite good at minimizing my movements, too, and avoiding unnecessary trips. I think that comes from being lazy at heart. LOL

  11. Hold on to your pants....I went to the store today...the grocery store ..and actually bought things to cook twice. Now I haven't told Louis as I don't know when this big day will be and I don't want to feel pressured. I'll also be using the slow cooker for one meal. Boy, hamburger sure went up since I last bought it at $1.99/lb last time. Guess it's been awhile.

JL...we would like to take that Alaska trip. Louis never has enough time off. I hear it's a great two week trip. Come on our trip and meet us. We got a good deal of half price for the second person. Airfare will probablycost more than cruise. Whole cruise was about $1400 for two for seven days with ocean view extra large room. We didn't get a balcony this time as we don't use it in Alaska very much. I got a handicap room this time mostly for the shower.

Jodi, did you have fun tonight? Your pictures looked like you were having fun. It's nice when your daughter gets old e ough to do adult things with you.

Have fun in a Washington Barb in Co we will do lunch when you return.

Barb and Mary . What are you doing? Mary, is it getting warmer yet? It's getting warm here starting today for about five days so it's car was day tomorrow.

My friend is getting ready for her annual trip to Hawaii for a month in a couple of weeks. Boy, that would be nice.

This from during the night on the last blog

  12. Dianne Okay, I'm holding onto my pants. What are you cooking?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dianne, do you remember where the crock pot is? The stove? LOL! Good for you! I was lazy tonight and made chili with grilled cheese sandwiches.
I sure wish I was going on a cruise! Palm Springs will have to do for now :)

BTW, our temps almost made it to 30* today! I see there will be another cold snap next week@ Geesh, we haven't gotten over this one yet!!

Jodi, your night out sounded like fun! I am on the chunky side, but fairly sure I am NOT preggy! lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dianne, I'm holding on to my pants, too. I hope the shock of you cooking isn't too much for Louis.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jodi, That prize bag sounds interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  16. J/L, I take a list to the store almost every time and also still forget something almost every time. I get distracted and forget to check the list before I get to the check stand.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mary, I wish I could be that organized.

  18. SLIN - Caren had been married to Jim for over 15 years. My parents would always stop and visit them when they were down in their neck of the woods. As far as Autumn is concerned, she is a big gal and had her period for the last nine months. Big baby, too!! 9lbs 9 oz....oy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. DIANNE - Good luck with the cooking! Kinda like riding a bike. You'll do great!! It was fun having Sam and "her gays" there. They are relatively new to the area and had never been to Five Nightclub. I have a feeling they will be back ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. MARY - It was beautiful here yesterday, too! It was nice putting on a couple less layers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. BARB - You have no idea...lol!! I hope I didn't step on you :)

  22. Best go hoist and rinse!

Have a great day HOoters ♥

  23. Jodi, we are a bit warmer. I did finally go without my leggings under my jeans!

Dianne, I bought a bunch of gross-eries the other day. Today I went to pick up what I forgot and wound up with two more bags. At least I remembered what I forgot lol!!!!

I really need a mani/pedi, but trying to hold off until next week
so I won't have to do it again before Cali!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, I haven't cooked yet and I don't even want Louis to know that it's a possibility. I'm going to make potato soup and goulash and a cake...all on different times. Who knows when that will happen. Mary, I do have to search a little for the crock pot. maybe next week

Tammy and I are going to see Garth Brooks in March. He will be here for nine shows. He's not my favorite but he's coming with Trisha Yearwood and I've always heRd how great his concerts are .....tried to go 20 years ago when he was here but couldn't get tickets.

Sounds like you are all going to have fun in California. How many if you are going? Should be nice and toasty there. How long will you stay?

Wow, that is a big baby to not know your having one. What a surprise that would be in the shower!! Jodi, does she have other kids? That's one surprise I could do without!

Boring day today. Stayed home all day long until dinner time. Hoping to go to movie and lunch tomorrow but really wanted to watch game too. GO PACKERS

Hope everyone is doing well and having some warmer weather for a few days.

    ReplyDelete
  25. DIANNE - It should be one heck of a concert. His new song "Mom" brings me to my knees. This is Autumn's first baby. What a big beauty she is!! Yesterday I did nothing. Didn't even get out of my jammies and boy did it feel good!! I hope you have your tassels on....GO PACK!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. HOdi You so deserve a do nothing day. I stayed home and did nothing, too, but have no good reason for it. I did get dressed but barely. I did what I call "stay home and stay ugly" because I didn't deal with makeup or hair. It was like a sick day but I was faking being sick. LOL

I watched "Gone Girl" the other night and it was very good. I loved the book and the movie did not disappoint. Rosamund Pike really nailed her performance.

  27. Dianne I can hardly wait for you to cook something. What are you waiting for? What kind of cake are you making?

  28. The other day I was walking my nice, well behaved dog (a pit bull). We were just walking around the block and two women were also walking their dog (a smallish terrier type) going the opposite way and on the opposite side of the street. As we got to the point where we were almost exactly opposite each other, their dog broke away from them, charged across the street, snarling and yapping, and attacked my dog. It jumped on my dog's neck, growling and snapping. My dog looked up at me as if to ask, "Do I have to take this shit?". This all happed quickly as the other dog's owner was running to us and calling her dog's name. The dog ignored its owner so I yelled at it very loudly (one very loud "Hey!) and it got off my dog and froze just in time for its owner to grab its leash again. I was not a happy camper. The woman said her dog has leash anxiety. Well, WTF, I informed her she needed to have a much better grip on her leash since she knew her dog was aggressive and that what happened was not cool at all. What I didn't say to her but I'm sure she knew is that my dog could have seriously hurt or even killed her dog if she was so inclined. Fortunately, my dog is really nice and friendly but she's the one stuck with a crappy reputation just because of her breed.

  29. Tough game! Although I am happy for Russell Wilson. He is a Wisconsin Badger alumni. I will be rooting for him in the Super Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  30. SLIN - Shame on that other dog owner. Should handle her pet better. Kudos to your sweet dog. She really could've done some damage. Lol at faking being sick. You crack me up pretty lady :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry Jodi for the Packers. I went to the movies but then to a sports bar/restaurant for the last quarter. I really thought they were going to win. I think most of the place was cheering for them. I was quite a sight twirling in there ..at the movies too.

Barb and I went to see American Sniper. Boy, that is quite a movie. I'd recommend it and Bradley Cooper. Clint Eastwood did a good job making it too.

Jl...good thing your dog is so sweet. That lady must have been scared when she lost control of her dog. I would have been mad if I were you too. I'm making an easy cake some day I saw on FB. I think I might make the potato soup tomorrow. You thicken it with cream cheese at the end. Sounds good. We shall see If I do it and HOW it will taste. I literally have to dust my crock pot off ..I found it tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Dianne I'm glad you found your crock pot. Let me know how the soup turns out. I love potato soup.

    ReplyDelete
  33. DIANNE - I would've paid money to see you twirling! American Sniper looks good. I really enjoy Bradley Cooper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok...I cooked. It smelled so good when I came home. I made potato soup. It was a PAULA Dean receipe and you thicken it with a block of cream cheese. It made it just the right thickness and was very good. Louis has enough for another night. I think he was shocked when he got up and saw the crock pot going. Ha!!

Jodi, that movie was very good. You started thinking Bradley Cooper was the real guy. I've become quite a good twirler now. You too? Guess we have to get some Seattle ones now yuck!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dianne Congrats on the success of your cooking venture. I'm glad it turned out well. Maybe that will encourage you to cook more often?

I went with friends tonight to see "Birdman". I liked it a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  36. DIANNE - Glad the soup turned out good! And as far as the tassels are concerned, I'd much rather twirl for Seattle than the Patriots and Brady!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. SLIN - Michael Keaton is suppose to be really good in Birdman. I may have to make time to see it, too!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ended up coming home from work yesterday morning. I think the chili dip won...even tho the Packers didn't. Overload of gas...ugh!!! Thankfully I'm feeling much better this morning.

  39. Checking in! I have been lazy lately. This dreary weather gives me no energy! I go out for dog walks and head right back in! There is ice under all the snow we got last night. I use an wooden antique
xcountry aki pole to keep me upright lol!

I saw a picture of my old neighbor on FB today. His daughter is great about posting about his progress. He "Jim" was wearing his two new legs and walking with them for the first time! I know, I should be ashamed for not "moving" more!

I am heading to bed. Everyone... have a great week!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I knew I should have proof read lol! "ski" and no "n" sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mary I should walk more, too. Nothing too exciting happened today. I had my car tire looked at today because I kept slowly losing air in it. Turned out it was just a loose valve stem. That was an easy fix and no charge. I had lunch with a friend and dinner with a couple that I am friends with. My dog had a nice outing with Sue who does Active Pet Care . Ursula had a grand time running off leash in the hills with 4 other dogs. I guess it really wore her out as she's been sleeping on my bed ever since. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  42. Mary2 I meant to add that I'm glad your ex-neighbor is starting to use his new legs.

    ReplyDelete
  43. MARY - That is so great that your old neighbor Jim is up and getting used to his legs! I hear ya about the weather. How many more weeks to spring?

    ReplyDelete
  44. SLIN - Glad Ursula had a nice outing! I remember when our black lab was younger, it was my mission everyday to wear her out!

    ReplyDelete
  45. DIANNE - I found that recipe for the potato soup. Got it going in the crock pot right now!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dianne, You are inspiring me to cook. I don't know what I'll cook, but I'm going to the gross-ry store tomorrow. Maybe I'll get out my crock pot, too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. J/L, It's so nice that you have a friend that will take Ursula out and exercise her more than just a walk.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mary, Your neighbor seems to be doing well with his new prostheses.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jodi, Sorry about your Packers. I am definitely NOT rooting for the Patriots. I heard about the under inflated footballs they used in their playoff game. They shouldn't even be allowed to play in the Super Bowl.

  50. Jan. 22, 1979 I married my hubby
Jan. 22, 1996 My Niece Jaimie was born.
Jan. 22, 2014, my oldest sister Cecilia passed away.
Kinda of a "not too sure how to feel" day!
I know this month is Barb/Co sad anniversary. What say we have a group grope/hug?? and celebrate life!

    ReplyDelete
  51. BARB - I feel the same way! It is unbelievable what was done. Yesterday I just wanted to yell....CHEATERS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. MARY - Happy Anniversary ♥ Also sending you love....can't believe it's been a year that you lost your sister. I'm always in for a group grope!!! Celebrating life is always good!

    ReplyDelete
  53. DIANNE - The soup turned out so good!! I had started making it before James had sent me a text that he could do dinner last night. He is going back to school this weekend and I wanted to see him one more time before he goes back. I did have a small taste before I left, and yum!!! Paul had a meeting to go to, so he didn't go to dinner. When Tim and I got home he was finishing his second bowl!

    ReplyDelete
  54. In other Lumberjack news, my hubby got his first smart phone yesterday. This is a man that had never even sent a text before. Welcome to the 21st century!! The cutest moment was when he wanted to find a chainsaw ringtone. There's an app for that...who knew?!!? The look of pure joy on his face was priceless!!!

  55. Best get prettied up for work. Today is my "Friday". I have a haircut appt after work, and I'm hoping to have "date night" with Paul. Country Corners (the bar we met at) has dancing on Thursday nights.
