This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
Just made my coffee. I get to work today. And the Badgers play Auburn in the Outback Bowl at 11 am. I will be missing the first hour of the game. GO BADGERS!!
Hi HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope we all have a happy and HEALTHY new year.
We went to dinner with two other couples and then home by ten. I would go out if it was up to me but no one will go with me. I think it would be fun to go,out and then stay at a hotel. Oh well...as I said, home by ten. We are going to a friends for brunch tomorrow and hold on......I'm cooking again. I'm making the same has brown casserole as last week. I've cooked twice in a week now...last year and the new year!! What a habit.
Our weather was freezing yesterday. It was -22 . At least today we reached a high of 24. It's still cold tonight. We have the cabinets open and faucets dripping.
JL...hope your casserole tasted good. It sounded good.
Jodi..sorry you have to work today. Do you get holiday pay? Hope so.
Barb, hope you enjoyed time with Chad. What a nice surprise for you.
Mary, did you make until midnight for New Years Eve? We always stay up and watch the ball drop Denver time. I'm off to,bed now though. I've been getting tired earlier.lately. It must be my age.
Anyway...love all of you and again...HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Dianne The casserole was good but made way too much. It's not the kind of thing I could eat over and over again so some will be wasted. I'm not one for freezing and reheating. But look at you, getting all domestic with the cooking! I've been going to bed a little earlier lately, too, but I think it's because of the colder weather. It just makes getting under the covers sound so inviting.
Good evening! Dianne, wow a Betty Crocker in the works!! I made pancakes, bacon & eggs for breakfast. NY strip steaks, baked potatoes and salad for supper. Back on the treadmill for me!! It is always hard when I feed the men one thing and me another! Maybe I will just work on portion control to start out. Spring will be here and my rolls will be out of control lol!
We went to a food filled brunch today. Everyone brought something good. It was a fun day. I li,e to have something to do on New Years Day. I came home and took a long nap and finally put my presents away.
I don't think I told you all what Louis got me. He did good in the jewelry department but then I had asked him to bring me home a can of crab soup from Virginia..I now have a case of it. He asked what kind of candy for my stocking and I told him cherry licorice, tootsie roll or snaps. I have a CASE of each one. I don't even have a place to store it.
I guess tomorrow is back to normal life. Now Id like that tree down. Oh yes, I wanted a flashlight for my car so he bought three different ones. Hmm, different
I purchased Bette Midler concert tickets for us in May. I got the mid price and they were still very pricey. I just realized yesterday that we will be on a cruise on that date. I'm sick about the cost. I'm going to,try and sell them but it is not a sold out concert. I can't believe I did that...
Lots of football today. I'm not quite into the college games.
Well, it's a good thing it's my weekend off. Sam had been home from work on New Year's Day with a fever that continued today along with a very sore throat. Turns out she has a severe case of strep. Her right tonsil is so swollen that if it gets any worse I have to take her to the ER to get it drained. They gave her a shot of antibiotic in each hip, along with prescriptions for augmentin, prednisone and a liquid form of hydrocodone. She is not to go back to work til the 10th. I just hate it when my kids are sick. I don't care that she is 20. Still my baby girl ♥
I was missing yesterday because I went to see a live performance of Dirty Dancing. I loved the music and the dancing was pretty good, but the actors didn't seem to have any chemistry with each other. Sacramento is notorious for jumping right up for standing ovations and yesterday they didn't stand until all the bows were finished and I think that was only to get up to leave. The performance as a whole was a little disappointing. Our next show is "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" on Jan. 30, starring Diana DeGarmo and her husband Ace Young, both of American Idol fame.
Dianne, I didn't answer your question. I stayed up NYE and did a lot of channel clicking to see the different NYE shows. I have not been able to do that in years, because we were always working (DJ) I also didn't miss packing and unpacking our equipment in the cold nasty weather! I think we will not work NYE again. :)
Jodi, is Sam better?
We took the dogs for a short walk in the cold raining weather. They get restless and need exercise. LOL, we do too!
BARB - My check this week will include Christmas and New Year's Day! Double score!! Too bad they didn't have chemistry. That is everything in that show!
MARY -Sam was feeling much better yesterday. The swelling had gone way down. That injected antibiotic and the prednisone really is doing it's job. Are you getting the snow we are? Got about an inch Friday night, and its snowing this morning. Not looking forward to the frigid temps this week. High on Wednesday will not get above 0°.
Barb Sorry you didn't like the performance more. You are so lucky, though, to see so many live productions. My husband and I used to like to go into SF and see plays or other live shows. I sure do miss that.
Mary Hey, you got to stay home on NYE where it was warm and you were not on treacherous roads with other drivers who had been drinking. Sounds like a win/win to me.
My daughter is coming down around noon and leaving her car here. She and a friend are flying down to Disneyland for a few days and I am taking her to the airport. I hope they have decent weather throughout their stay. It looks like it's going to be nice here today.
Last night Sam and Nate took Paul and I out for dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse! Total yum!! They also gave us our Christmas presents. Sam gave her Dad a new phone charger for our bedroom. She made me a wooden plaque with a butterfly on it. She painted it in purple and pinks. I love it!!! She also gave me a package of black socks....for all the times she swiped mine. lol!!
Tim called this morning at about 12:20. The Pimpala's back right tire is locked. Thankfully he has a friend whose father has a shop just a couple of driveways away. He and Paul were able to limp it to the shop, and will be able to fix it after school tomorrow. Thankfully Paul is still laid off and can drive me to work this morning. -8 * as I write this. BRRRR!!!
My Niece Raquel has been working as a nurses aid for a paraplegic man for over 3 yrs. He was in a bad accident and received a lot of money in compensation. He was young with a bad temperament. H r couldn't keep help because of it. He decided to form his own company and hire and fire as he wanted. Raquel took the job. I don't know h ow she was able to stay with him! He would throw tantrums and all kinds of things at her while cursing! He did pay her very well for not having much experience. She is now attending nursing school and loving it and looking forward to getting married next fall. She has been working full time and going to school full time. Long story short, he decided to shoot himself in the head, on her shift! She has been in shock as you can imagine! Before she left his room that night he told her that he loved her like a sister and appreciated her! She didn't think much of it because he has said these things before. Please keep her in your thoughts and send good vibes/prayers her way.
I need a change of subject.. It is frickin cold here in Mich! The wind is howling and we are expecting snow all week! I need to get out and get gross-eries tomorrow. Jim was out on the roads and said they were nasty. I may have to get inventive with my leftovers if I don't get out soon lol!
Barb I a new recipe tonight; a typical hamburger, tomato, pasta type dish. Anyway, it was pretty good and made tons so I have actually frozen some of it. Now, if I ever defrost and really eat it will be the real test.
MARY - How horrible for Raquel! I will keep her in my prayers. Horribly cold here, too. Many schools all around us have already cancelled school for the day due to the extreme wind chills. When I had gone to bed, Oregon hadn't cancelled yet. We shall see. Thankfully I don't work til noon today. Just woke up for a pit stop and to feed the fire.
Wow Mary, that's terrible your niece had to be part of that whole thing with her employer. I will send good thoughts and prayers to her.
We are having up and down weather. It was 60 today and snow again tomorrow. I'm about over the snow. I want to keep my car clean for at least a week plus I'm scared walking on ice.
Jodi, very nice the kids took you out and nice thoughtful gifts too. Glad Sam is feeling better.
Barb, did you get those Christmas things done? We took ours down last night now I'll see how long before it gets taken downstairs. It really didn't take long with two of us. I'm always glad to get it down.
JL, you are fortunate you live so close to so many attractions in California....plus close to the ocean too. Now if you just had a football team......:)
I made reservations today to fly to Dallas the first of March to visit my friend Trudy that moved there a few months ago. I'll stay for a week and then she'll drive me to Houston to stay with my cousin for another week. It should be fun but I will be having anxiety about going before I go...I always do on trips. Once I'm there I'm always glad I'm there.
Barb in Co...about time for us to be planning a lunch. Are you going to the game Sunday?
Dianne, I did get the rest of the decorations put away. there weren't that many so it went quick. I usually decorate each room but this year I only did the family room, kitchen and bathroom - only the rooms people would see. Of course, I didn't know Chad would be here or I would have done the whole house. He must not have noticed, because he didn't say anything about it.
J/L, I find that I will use frozen left-overs more when I freeze them in individual portions. That way I can spread them out and not get tired if eating the same thing for days.
Thanks gals for the prayers and good vibes sent to Raquel :)
Jodi,Yay, glad the pimpala was resurrected :)
JL,I thought I had all my decorations down, inside and out. I forgot the open staircase rail lol! It does look a little dreary now, but I need to think spring!!
Dianne, You will be fine in Dallas! I have all I can do to not jump on a plane and head out some place, any place warm!! I just reserved a place in Palm Springs. I think Beverly is going, not sure of anyone else in our "circle" will be there.
SacBarb, My decorations are packed up, just not stored yet. I really should organize my Christmas stuff. There's a lot of stuff I don't use anymore and just taking up space in the basement.
Watching the awards show and a bit of AI, It takes me a while to get into that every year!
They didn't close schools until after 5:30 am yesterday, but it turned out to be a good thing. It let me spend the morning with Tim my birthday boy. We went out for breakfast and then went to the mall. He wanted some Buckle jeans, and more of the cologne he likes at Bath and Body Works. Scored huge deals at Bath and Body Works. The cologne he likes was buy 2, get one free. So I got 2 colognes and a body wash in the same fragrance. Also the Hawaii collection from last summer was 75% off, so I stocked up on another body wash of the Maui, and got the body wash, lotion and body spray of the Oahu. I also had a coupon for $10 off. So I got all of that for the price of the 2 colognes. Score!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
ReplyDeleteMary You're looking lovely as the first beautiful HOoter of 2015!
ReplyDeleteMARY - Prettiest first HOoter of 2015!

ReplyDeleteHOdi I hope you have a good day at work. Do you get to listen to a radio to keep up with the game?

Mary Don't feel bad. I have enough fat on me to hibernate for the winter. Boy, you sure do spoil those men-folk.

Lots of football today. I'm not quite into the college games.
Dianne I hope you find someone to buy those tickets from you. I'd love to see Bette in concert but I'm kind of far away.
ReplyDeleteJL...need any soup, licorice, tootsie rolls or flash lights?
ReplyDeleteDianne You can never have too many flashlights. I've never tasted crab soup but crab isn't my thing, anyway.
ReplyDeleteSLIN - I couldn't listen at work, but I did catch the score on my last break!
ReplyDeleteBARB IN COviaWA - Hope your shoulder is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteMARY - Definitely need to be making smarter choices. August will be here before I know it. Kauai here we come!
ReplyDeleteDIANNE - It was an awesome day for Wisconsin, Oregon, and Ohio yesterday!! It was great to see Barry Alveraz win one last bowl game!

ReplyDeleteJodi, Holiday pay = big bucks. Score!
ReplyDeleteDianne, Wow! Cooking two times in one week. Slow down girl or Louis will be expecting you to cook every day!
ReplyDeleteBarb-in-CO, Happy new year back at ya.

ReplyDeleteSLIN - Not wimps...just not from Wisconsin ;) I hope Liz has a good time at Disneyland!
