Marriage Secret

by Dianne

A man and his wife had been married for going on fifty years. They shared everything, but the one thing the old man’s wife asked him never to do was look in a old shoebox she kept on the top shelf of her closet.

Not thinking anything of it, the man never asked about its contents. He just figured it was one of those things…

One day, when the old woman had fallen ill and didn’t have much longer to live, she called her husband to her hospital bed and told him it was time for him to take a look at the shoebox.

The old man went home, grabbed the box, and opened it. Inside, there were two crocheted dolls and bundles of money totaling $95,000.

“But…why? How?!” he stuttered, totally mystified by the cash.

“Right before we got married,” the old woman told her astonished husband, “My grandmother told me the secret to a happy marriage was to never argue. She said if I ever got angry with you, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll.”

The old man was touched. There were only two dolls in the shoebox – she had only been angry with him two times over the course of their marriage. He scooped his wife up and gave her a kiss.

“But where did the money come from?” He asked her.

“Oh, that?” She said with a smile, “that’s the money I made from selling the dolls.”

  2. SLIN - Sorry to keep you hanging in Area 51! I went to game night at Alex's Wednesday night. What a blast!! I had yesterday off and took the flannel sheets off the bed. Too damn hot to sleep with the weather we've had.

  5. Well, we were told what we already knew today. There is something going on in Jake's knee area that is causing the drop foot. MRI is scheduled for Monday.

  6. Jodi, well at least the dr is getting him right away for the MRI. I hope it's something that won't be too hard of a fix, be sure and let us know. Enjoy your time off....hope we aren't sending you our snow. It wasn't cold just yucky and messy.

JL, yes, we've spent more money than I care to think about right now. I think we're done..or I am anyway. Louis picked up one of the tables tonight and was able to put it together quickly. The other end tables, etc. come sometime tomorrow. They all have slate on the top.

We took Tammy and her new boyfriend out to dinner for her promotion tonight. He seems like a very nice guy and we are getting to know him a lot more. Boy, what a change from the last creep!!

Barb, how are you doing? Any better at all?

Mary, are you in Vegas yet?

  7. DIANNE - No snow for us, but it will be about 20 degrees cooler and rainy by Sunday night. I felt so bad for Jake. He told me yesterday he really doesn't want any more surgery, because he's worried about us having to pay more. I told him that's what insurance and payment plans are for. I just want my boy to be ok.

  9. Dianne Thanks for the blog. I'm glad you're liking your daughter's new boyfriend. They seem to be having fun together.

I set my alarm today because my daughter was going to come down with her dogs to go on a hike with her friend and her dog this afternoon but first my daughter and I were going to go out for breakfast. Anyway, apparently one of my daughter's dogs overdid it at the dog park yesterday and is limping today so she's not coming down after all. Bummer! I hate it when I set my alarm for no good reason. LOL

  12. SLIN - It's too bad Liz couldn't make it this morning. Bet my alarm went off earlier than yours, though ;) And thanks for the crossed fingers! I just want my boy to be better ♥

  13. Oh Jodi, how sweet for Jake to be thinking about mom and dad. I hope he can be better soon. He's too young to be worried about all this..He needs to be having fun.

JL, sorry about your daughter not getting to visit. I don't like things to be cancelled. You should have gone to the beach and roamed around. Do you ever do that at your place?

Our new things came today and then we went and did just a little more shopping. Tonight we went to dinner with my brother and SIL. He was telling me how much he enjoys bantering with you. Remember...I'm not responsible for him and his opinions. He has always enjoyed Jodi too.

Tomorrow my friend Barb and I are going to the movies to see that Nicholas Sparks movie I think the Longest Ride or something like that it's called.

Weather was a little better today..In the high 50's...maybe more snow or rain tomorrow.

Remember hooters, tomorrow night are the country music awards hosted by Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. It's always a great show.

  14. J/L, I rarely set an alarm, but I agree with you, it sucks when I do set one and the plan fizzles out!

  15. Dianne, Are we gonna see pics of your new furniture so I can live vicariously thru you?

  16. Jodi, I feel for you worrying about Jake. When we and the docs were trying to figure out what was wrong with Todd's knee I hated it. You don't your boy to suffer. No matter how old they get, they are still our babies! I've got everything crossed for good news. ♥

  20. My heart is heavy this morning. Angie's Grandma Margaret is not long for this earth. Hospice is keeping her comfortable. She has been a surrogate mother to me and Grandma to my kids. My Dad was on her husband's pit crew back in the 60's and we bought their house when my family first moved to Oregon. The Erfurth family has always been like family to me.

  21. Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.

When I was getting ready for work this morning, Angie called. Margaret passed peacefully. She was one of the classiest ladies I've ever known, and will forever hold a special place in my heart.

  22. HOdi Big ((((HUGS)))) to you and my condolences to Angie's family.

  23. Jodi, I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm glad she passed peacefully. Hospice is so great too. Again, my condolences to you and Angie.

I also like wanted to let you know Jodi, that the movie was really good. I love all his movies. I had a tear a time or two. There was some cute parts too and great bull riding.

Barb, be sure and let us know how your appt goes tomorrow. Hope you get some answers.

I'm loving the ACM awards show. It is such great entertainment. I can sing along with almost every song sooo needless to say, I watch it alone!!

  26. Dianne I woke up around 6:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. I hate when that happens! Are you the one that woke me?

I'm glad you enjoyed watching your show last night. LOL at watching it alone.

  29. SLIN - Waving back! Just waiting for Jake to get done with his MRI.

  30. JL, I was up getting ready for an 8:30 knee checkup so I may have woke you when I flushed!! Sorry. I took a nap late evening tonight. I was done at dr by 9 so grabbed some breakfast at McDonald's, got gas and car washed then came home and started in the kitchen putting my house back together. I didn't get done. Had a little lunch with a friend and then went more appliance shopping with Louis. I'm not going to know how to work anything in my kitchen.

Jodi, Any news on the MRI?

Barb, how did things go today? Anxious to hear.

  31. DIANNE - Hoping to get a call today.

  32. Dianne, You will have to post pics of all you new appliances.

  33. JODI, did you get the results of the MRI for Jake yet? I hope it's something easily fixed.

So sorry about Margaret. Hospice is really a god-send. My sympathies go out to you and Angie's family.

  34. My appointment with the surgeon went well yesterday. He took a lot of time to explain my condition and showed me the MRI and where my problems are. I like him a lot. He is very soft spoken and kinda cute, too. So my surgery date is June 9th. I got my nails done today and Sheenah made sure I had another appoint for a mani/pedi before my surgery date so I could "look cute" for the doctor.

  35. J/L, Thanks for crossing those fingers. I'm sure it helped! :)

  36. BARB - I'm glad your appt went well. And bonus on a cute doc!! Didn't get the call I was hoping for today. They did say it could be 1 or 2 days. Praying I get a call before I work at 10 am tomorrow.

  37. Hodi Hope you get that call in the morning.

  38. Barb A cute doc is a bonus. I'm glad you liked him and that he gave you the time to explain things well. Hopefully, he will be looking at your back on surgery day and not your mani/pedi. LOL

  39. I'm going on a little trip in the morning. I'm driving up to Brookings, Oregon, with two friends and we will be staying at the one friend's home there. We're just going to hang out and have "girl time". We will eat out and maybe go to a movie. Her home is on the coast overlooking the ocean. We will drive back home on Monday. I'll try to check in while I'm gone.

  40. SLIN - Sounds like a great time. Enjoy!

  41. I got a call from Tim last night. He was coming home with my car and it lost power. Thankfully Sam was able to pick him up (about a mile from our house). I guess it's a blessing it happened now and not when I'm on the road to the stix on Friday. An ex-co-worker is going to take a look at it for me. Hopefully it's an easy fix!!!
