This Night Owl Blog has given so much!
It is a fun place, we don't bash and we have fun being "tedious"!
We offer advice, give love, lots of free food and an open forum which can be about anything that is important, thought provoking or just plain silly.
And sometimes we just March (some to different drummers, but all together). :)
It is not about a single person, it is about all the people on any given day blended together.....Goldie!
Dianne, very funny. Everyone must be out and about today. I just got home from getting a pedi. It's not raining today but it's cold and I had to wear sandals so I wouldn't smudge my toe polish and now they are frozen!
I had all kinds of plans today and only accomplished a lunch with friends from my home town. I hadn't see the one gal in over 45 yrs! I was going to have a short lunch and get on with my to do list. Well, we got reminiscing and before you know it, the day was pretty much shot lol! I grew up with Beth and Sylvia (Sylvia is on my friends FB). We lived just a couple of blocks from each other. I have known them since I was 5 yrs old! We will be having more lunches I'm sure! Both gals are retired teachers. Sylvia is now our tax accountant. Funny how things come full circle!
We were supposed to get a few flurries today. Yah, right! Once they started they ever ended lol! Oh well, it could be worse, like the Eastern states are going to get!
I got home kind of late so I only whipped up salads and spaghetti. The men never care, they just wolf anything down lol!
Dam, I was going to scroll up to see if I missed anyone's questions and realized I'm on the new blog lol!!
Hi....boy, I'm glad to not live on the East coast this weekend. We are going to have 50's but maybe snow during the game at the end. 70's next week. I got my car washed today so hope it stays nice. Barb, I got a pedi today too. I was past due. Tomorrow is hair day at my new hairdresser. I'm really Impressed with the color she did as it hasn't faded at all.
I took the kids to dinner Monday night at One The border. We had bad service and I didn't leave a tip and wrote an emsil when I got home. Today I not only received an email but the manager called apologizing and telling me he was sending me some coupons. He said the waitress will get some more training. Well, he called me back and said a $5 tip had been added....not by me. He said now we have a different issue. I then received another email tonight saying he was crediting my card with the full price of the dinner and sending coupons.
Jodi, I'm glad you're feeling better. Boy, I hate to throw up!! It makes me throw up more. I appreciate the tassel swings when u were sick. We really need them swinging this week. I so want to beat Brady and his cheater coach. We have once this season already with our back up quarterback. We have Peyton playing this week so fingers crossed. The city is going crazy. I even got a New Jersey in the mail today. I stuck with an Elway one.
JL, guess you'd better go cheese slice shopping. I have no diet tips because I don't know how I'm losing. I've been trying to watch it some but still drinking that darn Pepsi/Coke. It sounds so pretty where you live.
Mary, I love fun long lunches like you had today. Time just gets away from you. My friend and I after WW go to,lunch from 12:30-4:30. We never get done talking. She's going to Hawaii this weekend for five weeks so Im going to have to push myself to still go to WW. I'll really miss her but I have another friend in that area that will meet me. She's still working so only a two hour lunch with her.
Dianne, You crack me up with your lunches. I wish we lived closer. I would love to go to lunch with you. So, the Manager of the restaurant thinks the waitress added the tip? That was pretty ballsy of her. Was it done after you signed the bill? I'm glad the Manager is trying to make it right for you.
Mary, I often make plans that never take place when I plan them! It is so easy to let the day get away from me. Before I retired, I was so much more disciplined and better about getting things done, but now I figure I can (almost) always get it done tomorrow. I guess I've gotten lazy! LOL
J/L, As promised, we have had rain through the night and this morning. It has stopped for a while, but it is supposed to start up again and we are supposed to have heavy fog on the weekend. I don't mind the rain as long as I don't have to drive in it, but I really hate the fog. It chills to the bone, even if I only go out long enough to get the mail!
Barb, I wish you lived by me too and we could go to long lunches a lot. The wait staff gets to know me!!! Yes, the manager said she added the tip. Big trouble for her. Yes, I guess after as it wasn't there when I signed. I love even put a line through where a tip goes.
My projects (which are many) are always tomorrow too....then I feel guilty.
Went to see the movie 13hours today with Louis. It was sad. I'd like to go see Concussion but no one wants to go with me.
Got my hair done today along with the movie and dinner and that was my day.
DIANNE - Wow!! I'm glad the manager is making it right for you, and what BARB said. Pretty ballsy, indeed! I went to dinner last night with my old boss Alex. He surprised me. His friend Alaina joined us...and she lives in East Troy which is about an hour and a half away! I had fried fish (lake perch), cole slaw, and some yummy au gratin potatoes! Of course I had my Hulamoo, then Alex bought us both a Cherry Bomb shot. That was the first time I had one of those. Yummy!!! Pretty excited for the game this weekend! I hope the Broncos take Brady and the Patriots DOWN!!!
BARB - I'm fine. I had gone to bed after dinner last night, and didn't hear GOLDIE'S text. I did wake up when all the messages were coming thru on FB, though. My heart is breaking. Inge truly was like another Mother for me. I'm blessed that GOLDIE has shared her with me all these years. I loved her like my own ♥
HOdi Thanks for the "wake up call". LOL I announced there is a new blog then proceeded to post in the old blog. How stupid was that? LOL
On a more somber note, I am so sorry about the passing of Heidi's mom. I know you were very close to her, too, and that your heart is hurting. Big (((HUGS))) to you, sweet lady.
By the way, "Sleeping" in and "4 a.m." should not be mentioned in the same sentence. It does not compute.
Mary You "only" whipped up salads and spaghetti? Hey, that's a real, honest to goodness meal for most of us. I had salad and spaghetti the last two nights. I had made a half batch of spaghetti Thursday and it was enough for two nights including having seconds. It was a nice dinner for a cold, stormy day.
Barb We had tons of wind and rain for the last couple of days. I have an attached garage and the common wall is where the fireplace is. When in the garage, I noticed some thing little lines of moisture were coming down the bricks on the back side of the chimney where it goes up through the garage roof. So, I had the roofing guys come out and they went up on the roof and checked all around the base of the chimney to make sure it was really sealed well. It's a new roof and nothing seems to be amiss there but there are cracks and some gaps in the mortar between chimney bricks. Also, I notice the round chimney topper was no longer spinning in the wind and they found that it was rusted out on the inside where it sits on its axis. Oh, joy. It's always something. Now I have to call a chimney guy.
Dianne I think my friends and I are going to go see Bridge of Spies on Monday. We are also interested in seeing the movie "Spotlight".
I know you weren't eating much when you were so worried about breaking your bridge again. Do you think that accounts for your weight loss?
It sounds like you are liking the new hairdresser and the color she gave you. That's good. I know you were worried about it.
Boy, it's a good thing you contacted the management of the restaurant about your experience there. Otherwise, you probably would have never noticed that the bill had been increased by $5 and they wouldn't know they had a thief on their staff.
SLIN - Thank you. She was an amazing woman. GOLDIE said that she left me something. I'm not sure what it will be, but I'm sure it will be special. A few years ago she gave me a vase of hers. She knew that my favorite color is purple (as was my mother's), and the vase had purple butterflies painted on it. As for the wake up call, all I could do was chuckle. And yes, technically 4 am is sleeping in, since I typically wake up at 2 am when I have to be to work at 4!
Jodi, I'm very sorry for your loss. It's just so darn hard losing people. I'm glad you had the opportunity to know her and be close. How nice that she left something for you....very thoughtful.
JL, I'm still not eating much on my new bridge. I'm too scared to and I'll probably never chew gum again. That's what broke it the last time. I haven't heard of the movie Spotlight. What is it about and who's in it? A new movie will be coming out with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. It looks good...not a comedy. I'm trying somewhat to watch what I eat. We went to Olive Garden tonight and I brought half home do that was good. I will be munching during the game tomorrow.
Jodi, I so hope we beat the Patriots tomorrow. Our town is som excited. Everyone is wearing Bronco shirts and jackets all week. This will be a sad town if we don't win. If we can just not drop the damn ball, sack Brady and not throw interceptions!! We are the number and me defense in the league. Warm your tassels up...you too Mary, JL, and Barb. Come on barb...just tomorrow and hopefully the Super Bowl.
Dianne, I am rooting for Denver!! Tassels and all!! I sure would love to see them in the Supper Bowl! I am in a couple of football pools. Nothing big just $5.00 and $2.00. It makes it even more fun to watch.
JL, I'm glad you joined us lol!! Kind of like me, running into the kitchen to get something, and forgetting what it was! I now now have a trick I do. When I forget, I stand on the spot until I remember lol!! Dam I hate forgetting things!
Jodi! Let's swing them tassels till out boobies hurt!!! Go Denver!!!
SacBarb, you are right. I was much more organized when I was working! Honestly, I have no idea how I did it! Working, raising a family, cooking, cleaning, packing lunches. going to kids games. paying& bills etc. All that plus keeping an eye on my parents while they were around. I think we deserve to be a little lazy lol!!!
Can I just say I'm SO excited?? Mary and Jodi, your twirling worked. What a game. I could hardly breathe in the last minute. The Super Bowl is not going to be easy but the next two weeks will sure be fun. We watched the first three quarters of the second game but it got boring so we went home. I love football. Panthers QB is really good but a little bit of a show off. Peyton is a calm classy guy. He has twins ..one being a son that will probably be another QB.
Dianne Congrats to the Broncos. I was twirling but had to leave before the game was over in order to get some errands done. It was an exciting game to watch, though. I texted you but you never answered. I guess you were glued to the TV.
Mary I'm doing that forgetting thing more often these days. My usual trick is to go back to the spot where I had the original thought and then it all comes back to me. LOL I think you need to work on that being lazy thing. You don't seen to have the hang of it yet. LOL
Barb We might have a sprinkle or two today but we aren't expected any more rain until a storm hits on Friday. It will give us a little bit of a chance to dry out just a little. I am tired of the dirt being mud.
Tonight I am going with friends to see the Tom Hanks movie, Bridge of Spies. It ought to be good.
Dianne2 I forgot to answer your question about Spotlight. It is a movie about the journalists who uncovered how widespread the pedophilia problem is in the Catholic church. We still haven't seen it as the times it was showing wasn't convenient right now.
J/L, I want to see Spotlight. I may have to go alone because Sharon is so busy these days. She does swimming a couple days a week, takes her dogs to agility training every Wednesday, and takes art classes on Saturdays. She did carve out time yesterday to go see Star Wars with me. I felt really privileged. We are also going to see 'Bullets Over Broadway' on Friday. We've had the tickets since October and we are still doing our Best of Broadway series, but it seems there is no time for much else. Guess I need to get more involved in stuff or find a more available friend. ;)
JL, I did get the text but didn't realize it was you. I'll know on super bowl day. Hmm I haven't heard of that movie about the church. Would be interesting. I was at Bruce's so you pals could have chit chatted. You do know he is the type that tries to push buttons, right? He does a good job of it.. It still works even on me. You could have worn your tassels on errands. You would have met new friends. Barb, maybe that's what you need to do to find some movie friends!!
I hope you will all be swinging on Super Bowl Sunday. We will be going to my friends for a small party. Our town and newscasts are full of Broncos. It's so fun. I didn't wear a bronco shirt today but did wear my earrings.
Barb, Louis really liked Star Wars. I don't really have any desire to see it as I've never seen any of them. Haven't heard of that Broadway show. It's not in my package this year. I can't remember what our next show is going to be or when even.
We were supposed to have snow flakes today but didn't..just cloudy. Next few days are maybe going to be in 60's. I hope so plus I'm keeping my shiny red car clean I have to drive far to lunch tomorrow as a friend just had shoulder surgery and is off work so going out close to her house...then dinner with kids. I try to meet them once a week so I can keep up with there lives. They seem to change daily.
Barb Too bad I don't live closer so we could do dinner and movies. Did you like Star Wars? I haven't seen it. My friend, Jane, thought it was very good.
JL, we are and is nothing like my parents. He thinks it's a "gift" how he can push buttons. If you ever come visit we will lunch with him as he asks about you all the time. You and Jodi.
I got some new "bronco" earrings that I've been wearing every day for a week. The are a heart with a B in the middle. Tonight my granddaughter (who doesn't even like football) asked me why I was wearing Cincinnati Bengals esrrings. They looked orange and navy to me and I've been getting compliments on them. She pulled them up on Amazon and sure as heck they are not Bronco! They thought it was so funny that I've been wearing them. No one else noticed. Good thing I just received another heart pair that day Denver on them. Grr
Well, we need to all live closer so we could hang out for lunch, dinner and movies. Tomorrow is WW and I don't think I did very well this week. Sigh...if I could just give up this dang soda.
Dianne Well, that would certainly be an interesting lunch. I don't think it would go very well once he started calling me a commie to my face. LOL
That is so funny that you were wearing Bengal earrings and doubly funny that your granddaughter pointed it out to you! It will be a while before you live that one down.
I accomplished nothing today except for doing a little bit of laundry. I live a boring life.
Dianne, very funny. Everyone must be out and about today. I just got home from getting a pedi. It's not raining today but it's cold and I had to wear sandals so I wouldn't smudge my toe polish and now they are frozen!
