When I was
a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how
hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five
miles to school every morning…. Uphill… Barefoot… BOTH
ways…yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember
promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to
lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy
they’ve got it!
But now
that I’m over the ripe old age of forty, I can’t help but look around
and notice the youth of today. You’ve got it so easy! I mean, compared to
my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And I hate to say it, but you kids
today, you don’t know how good you’ve got it!
1) I mean,
when I was a kid we didn’t have the Internet. If we wanted to know
something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in the card
catalog!!
2) There
was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter – with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox,
and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were ten cents!
3) Child
Protective Services didn’t care if our parents beat us. As a matter of
fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass!
Nowhere was safe!
4) There
were no MP3’s or Torrents or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you
had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
5) Or you
had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually
talk over the beginning and screw it all up! There were no CD players! We had
tape decks in our car. We’d play our favorite tape and
“eject” it when finished, and then the tape would come undone
rendering it useless.
6) We
didn’t have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and
somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that’s it!
7) There
weren’t any cell phones either. If you left the house, you just
didn’t make a call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch
with your “friends”. OH MY GOSH !!! Think of the horror… not
being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there was no TEXTING. Yeah, right.
Please! You kids have no idea how annoying you are.
8) And we
didn’t have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea
who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your
drug dealer, the collection agent… you just didn’t know!!! You had
to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
9) We
didn’t have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
‘Space Invaders’ and ‘Asteroids’. Your screen guy was a
little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no
multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen.. Forever! And you could
never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster
until you died! Just like LIFE!
10) You
had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were
screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk
over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what’s the
world coming to?!?!
11) There
was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons only on Saturday
morning. Do you hear what I’m saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for
cartoons, you spoiled little rugrats!
12) And we
didn’t have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use
the stove! Imagine that!
13) And
our parents told us to stay outside and play… all day long. Oh, no, no electronics
to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside… you were doing
chores!
And car
seats – oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If
you were lucky, you got the “safety arm” across the chest at the
last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard,
well that was your fault for calling “shot gun” in the first place!
See!
That’s exactly what I’m talking about! You kids today have got it
too easy. You’re spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn’t have lasted five
minutes back in 1970 or any time before!
Regards,
The Over 40 Crowd
That was cute Dianne! I LMAO!! We had it so bad that we actually had black
ReplyDeleteand white tv!!!
I have a busy week end. Tomorrow I am headed to my home town to visit friends.Saturday I have to pick up Matthew's birthday cake in Lansing, then drive way north to a baby shower. Sunday is Matthew's birthday so I will be making his favorite meal, either tacos or burritos. Monday is Zoie's day at the groomers.
I have half of my Christmas gifts taken care of and have sent out a few cards to the peeps who already sent them to me lol!
This damp cold weather had been reeking havoc on my body! Times like this I wish I was a "snow bird". A lot of my friends have left or leaving soon for the south. Boo hoo!
Dianne, thanks for the reminder about how 'bad' we had it! How did we ever manage? I don't remember ever wishing for things to be easier. I was content and I think things were simpler then. My parents probably had a lot to worry about, but I never knew it.
ReplyDeleteMary, you are a busy bee! I started writhing my Christmas cards tonight. Hopefully, I can finish them tomorrow and get them out on the weekend. I also am about half finished getting Christmas gifts. I ordered four things from Amazon on cyber Monday and had them wrapped and sent straight to the recipients. So that was easy and I don't have to pay extra for mailing them.
J/L, how are things going in SoCal? Are you ready to come home?
Barb I got home last night and yes, I was ready to get home to my own stuff. Friday they had the Santa Ana winds come through so I was kind of worried about it being windy for my flight. Fortunately, they had calmed down by Saturday so that was a relief. However, after the plane took off, we hit turbulence for quite a while so I guess those winds were just higher up. It wasn't the up and down motion that unnerves me too much, but I really don't like when the plane is dipping side to side. On the plus side, it was the last flight to SF and there were only about 15 people on it and I had both seats to myself.
ReplyDeleteMary You do have some busy times. I have to finish unpacking, do laundry, go grocery shopping, and maybe get out some Xmas decorations. I didn't put up a tree last year and I found I was just fine with only decorating so I think I'll do that again this year. I haven't even bought Xmas cards so I don't know if that's going to get done this year. Going on the cruise and then going for extended stay at my brother's has really kind of put a crimp in my organization abilities. Tomorrow I have to pick up all the mail that was being held and also travel to my daughter's to pick up my dog.
ReplyDeleteDianne Thanks for the blog. A lot of things have changed, that's for sure. I used to be very happy with my clock radio and record player. I do admit to really liking being able to control the TV with a remote, though. Getting up and down to change the channel or try to get a better signal, was a pain in the butt, even if there were only a few channels to change to. One nice thing I remember was that they had a commercial at the top of the hour and station identification at the half hour. All the rest of the time was actual programming.
ReplyDeleteJ/L, Welcome home. I remember when TV shows had a minimum number of commercials and most of the hour or half hour was actual programming. Now, it seems like there is a commercial every ten minutes. It's really annoying.
ReplyDeleteIs your brother all alone now. He did so well after his surgery, he probably doesn't need anyone there to help him.
Hi..I'm home now too! We had such a good time this weekend. It was my daughter, friend and her daughter. We sure laughed a lot and it was really good for Tammy to get away. A girls weekend was just what we needed. Everything went smooth and the hotel, etc. worked our perfect. I rented a scooter for the hotel and that was really nice for me to get around. Our room was really close to the check in and my friends was right next door. The George Strait concert was wonderful. Our transportation dropped us right at the door too. My trips are over for awhile and now I don't have to stress about the weather and traveling any more.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home JL. There is plenty of time for Christmas cards. I'm going to work on mine this week. It's late for me. How's your brother doing? Is he ready to get the next one done? We put up our decorations before Branson and I'm glad we did it then. I would imagine you are glad to get home and organized. I am too
Barb, I remember those tv shows without a million commercials. Btw, in Vegas today there was a hall of fame raider being interviewed. His name is Tim brown. His picture is on my facebook. Boy, Raiders are sure doing good this year....first place. Wonder how next week will be when you place KC? Now that should be a good game. I don't think we will make playoffs this year, although we won again today.
MARY, how was your weekend? Vegas has sure changed since I was there ten years ago. I have a great guy you can call for transportation next time you are there and much better than waiting for a cab and reasonable too. I don't know if I'll ever make it there again but it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be ..for sure. We stayed at the Luxor and it was very nice. I didn't win but Tammy won $250 on hot shot slot right before we left today.
We are supposed to get snow this week...we shall see. I kind of hope not.
Dianne, Tim Brown is my son Todd's favorite player of the retired players. When Tim was still playing, I got Todd a Raider jersey with Brown's name and number on it. He still wears it. They won again today and even came back from behind AGAIN. They do that a lot and Todd says it is not good for his blood pressure!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a good time on your road trip and in LV. Sharon and I are going in May to see Cher. I think I mentioned that before. We will be staying in a timeshare and they usually have a shuttle that goes to some of the hotels, but give me that person's info in case we do something that isn't on the shuttles route.
Barb, I'll get the info from Tammy and send it to you.
ReplyDeleteBarb As it turned out, my brother didn't need me at all. I did take care of his cat while he was in the hospital, but other than that, he was getting around just fine, driving, and everything else. He did appreciate me making Thanksgiving dinner and some other dinners but we also ate out a lot. Before he even had his staples out, he was back to going up into the mountains in the wee hours of the morning and walking a mile. That's what he considers "taking it easy". He is doing so well that the doctor said that was fine for him to walk a mile at this point. His other knee is actually in even worse condition than the one he had replaced. He's now worried about his insurance being taken away because he can only afford what he has because of Obamacare. He does have to make payments on the surgery he just had. He may have to put off getting the other knee done until he is eligible for Medicare when he turns 65 next September.
ReplyDeleteDianne It sounds like you, Tammy, and your friends had a wonderful time. How fun for Tammy to win the $250 at the end of the trip. How come that never happens to me?
ReplyDeleteI still don't have any Christmas cards purchased. I haven't gotten any decorations up, either. It's getting more and more difficult for me to get into the spirit of the holiday. I did go pick up my dog from my daughter's today. She lives a little over an hour away. I also made it to the post office and picked up all the withheld mail. Yikes, there was a lot of stuff that went directly into the recycle bin! I also got caught up on the bills. Yesterday, I got unpacked and did laundry.
I haven't gotten on the scale since I've gotten back but maybe I'll do that tomorrow and get back on my WW routine.
So...it's been snowing and it's 5 degrees and our tree is covered in robins. Does that mean aspiring is around the corner? Why are they here I wonder?
ReplyDeleteJL, i everything out and ready to do my cards tonight. How are you doing with your cards and decorating? I. Going to WW to see the damage from two vacations today and hope the roads aren't too bad. If they are, I will come back home. I hope not though. Winning money never happens to me either. Never!' If I win twenty bucks I get excited.
Barb, I sent you the Vegas guys name and number. Hope you received it. I think (gulp) you might even have a chance for the Super Boel this year. People are saying Oakland and Cowboys. I'll tell you Vegas really wants the Raiders to love there. How do you feel about it? Would you still be a Raider fan or switch to Broncos? :)
Mary, how are you feeling? I'm sorry to say that more cold is coming your way.
I just about finished up with my shopping yesterday. I got a few things for Kayla to open if we see her for an apartment some day. She is going to leave it at moms u Gil that some day happens. Jake-ass court date was yesterday and he was a no show..surprise surprise. Judge gave no etratime or anything because he doesn't have a phone and lawyer couldn't get ahold of him. Since he ran out of court last time judge thought he might not know court date. He knew and said he wasnt going. There is still a warrant out for him..big deal.
Dianne, you are not making me happy weather wise lol! Oh well, it IS winter!
ReplyDeleteI am doing ok, but my friends not so much. I went to one of my old friends funeral "Kitty" yesterday. She suffered with cancer for over 3 yrs. She was a fighter for sure! We used to babysit each others kids when I was married to my first husband. Her hubby died in a car crash when she was 8 mo. pregnant. She has 2 daughters and one son. She never married again.
Earlier this morning one of my high school friends lost her husband to cancer. I have known both of them since childhood. He was so handsome. I always had a crush on him.He married a wonderful friend of mine. They were such a cute couple. He had leukemia and other health issues. Recently the whole family came down with the flu. I think it was the last straw for his already weak immune system! It will be a sad holiday for their family.
My friend "Kitty" died on Thanksgiving. Jeesh!
Hug your loved ones real tight!
It was nice meeting up with all of my old work friend for lunch. They always crack me up! We always exchange rub off lottery tickets for Christmas gifts. I won a whole $10 lol! Beats losing!
MARY, so sorry about your friends. It's so extra hard during the holidays. My deceased husband died on December 3 and it was a horrible. Christmas that year. I just hate hearing people so sick. How sad she lost her husband when she was pregnant. That's a very sad story.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying our 8 below tonight. I think 20 tomorrow so be ready. The weekend looks nice though. I went out today and it was a little icy on the roads but the hwy was fine. I lost weight this week...amazing after going to a Vegas. Pina coladas must be diet ..ha ha.
Jake-ass got arrested today. The police when in the apt and woke them up. Kayla called me crying. She is trying to get bail money to bond him out. She asked her dad for $700. She called her mom and asked if she had anything she could sell? She didn't ask me for anything. I was quick with her on the phone. We're hoping he doesn't get bonded out but I wouldn't be surprised if he does as he seems to get by so much. I'd love him to spend Christmas there. I guess I'm not very nice.
Mary I'm so sorry about the loss of your friends. It seems especially hard around the holidays. I hope they have little ones in their families as their excitement should help bring some bright spots during the holidays even amid the sadness and loss.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you still get together with your old work mates. Every couple of months or so, I get together with a couple of veterinarians, our former office manager, our former bookkeeper, and one of the animal techs for breakfast and a visit. It's nice to touch base periodically. The folks I worked with previous to that are all scattered far and wide now.
Hi JL
ReplyDeleteDianne Well, it's raining here today. I don't think I could live in a place like you do where it is so cold and it snows and roads get icy. I guess it just becomes "normal" but I think it would be a giant pain in the "arse". I do admit that snow looks pretty, though, especially around the Christmas holidays. Does it help you get in the holiday spirit? I could use a dose of that. I did get some decorations put up and a wreath on my door. Otherwise, I've done nothing for the holidays. I don't know if I'll get around to getting cards this year.
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well... Jake-ass finally got put in jail. Oh, well. It's only county jail, not prison. He will be okay. As for Kayla, she needs to be reminded that this is the result of decisions Jake made and no one else's. His behaviors need to change or this will be the result over and over again. Maybe now he will finally "get it". Since Kayla is still all tied up with him, I hope he does learn something from this. Not holding my breath, though.
AAAAAARG!!!!! I just lost a huge post :-(
ReplyDeleteAnd now I dont want to retype it.
I'll come back later because right now I'm just super frustrated.....
Dianne, I know LV wants the Raiders, badly. I will still be a fan, even if they move. Under no circumstances would I ever be a Broncos fan! Sorry! My family would be really excited if the Raiders get to the Superbowl. They had a big loss tonight to KC, so we shall see.
ReplyDeleteI have been praying that Kayla will see Jake for the loser he is. He seems to have some sort of spell over her and she doesn't want to admit that all the adults in her life are right about him. I, too, hope he has to spend Christmas in jail. Every time he gets away with not complying with the court, he will just keep doing what he wants. I don't understand why there haven't been serious consequences for all the crap he has done!
J/L, I'm sure you helped your brother by just being there so he wasn't alone and by giving him moral support. I didn't need a lot of help, physically, after my surgery, but I did sleep a lot and it was nice to have someone there to cook for me and to keep track of medication doses. I did need a driver because I wasn't released to drive for about six weeks.
ReplyDeleteMary, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friends.
ReplyDeleteI still get together with my staff to celebrate birthdays. And of course, the Jennifers and I get together often to make cards. I supervised Jen N. and Jenn B. was a coworker. She now works at the Department of Education and plans to retire next year or the year after. Every time she makes a plan to retire, they promote her so she will stay! I told her, that was her plan to see how high she can go! LOL I had a great crew and every one of them have done very well. I am proud to say that Jen N. in now in a position two levels higher than I was when I retired. I can't believe I have been retired for 15 years.
SacBarb, we must have retired about the same time. I wouldn't have gone out so early if it wasn't for my knee replacement. You & I were lucky to get out while we were still young ;-). Our Union will have their Retiree's Christmas party this wed. It's always good to see that everyone is getting just as old and wrinkled as me!! :)
ReplyDeleteBarb in CO,You will have to start "select all, & copying your comments. Make sure you are logged into your server (gmail, msn), before publishing.
btw, I loved your Picture!
Dianne,You can quit with the low temps and snow!! I need to blow it all back to you! I used to blame Hodi, but you send worse lol!!
Who in their right mind would pay the bail money? If it were my son, I would prefer he stayed in and hopefully do some growing up while there!
JL,I think the older I get, the less I seem to get in the "spirit". If it wasn't for my son and family coming for Christmas, I would be one big "HUMBUG" lol!!
Watching the different Christmas themed movies and listening to Christmas music helps a bit. Put a mini tree up and sing Christmas songs to your fur baby!
Barb.in.WA Well, it's good to see you here. Sorry about the mishap but please try again.
ReplyDeleteBarb My brother's next knee surgery probably won't be so easy. This time it was his left knee so he was still able to drive his truck at it is automatic. The right knee will be another story. My brother wasn't on any pain meds once he left the hospital. We got the prescription filled, just in case, but he never needed them. Feeling some achy-ness at times seems to be the worst it got for him so then he would just take some Tylenol. I talked to him today and he told me he fell when he was out cheering on his softball team. Apparently, he stepped backwards on the edge of the diamond and hit a little hole or a rock or something and it made him stumble and go down flat on his back. It also twisted his leg a little and he said that really hurt for a minute. He said it was embarrassing that all the players (including opposing team) came running over to him and picked him up. They wanted to carry him to the bleachers but he refused that as he felt he just had to compose himself for a second. He said the incident and especially the response, made him feel like an old man. He is the oldest one that still plays on the softball teams. He can hardly wait to get back to it.
ReplyDeleteMary I actually went to a shopping center today and purchased some Christmas cards. Not only that, but I have started addressing them. LOL I'm still not into the holiday spirit even though I have at least done some decorating. Maybe I'll be more into it as it gets closer to the actual holiday.
ReplyDeleteIt's been raining and I am enjoying listening to it. I've never been a big fan of holiday movies, per se, but I do like what my mother used to call "Jesus movies". LOL
JustLin, you just made my day by what you wrote "what my mother used to call "Jesus movies". You gave me a sweet reminder of my Mother.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that maybe Christmas celebrating has been starting too early. It makes sense that we are not 'in the spirit" right now.
The snow we are getting kind-of-sort-of ,gets me in the mood.
Your brother better take care of those legs. My neighbor Jim lost both of his partly due to the fact that he would not sit still long enough for the replacements to heal. He fell off a ladder after one surgery and got a bad infection in his knee...on the next knee replacement , he got an infection after painting his house, dragging himself on the ground to paint the bottom trim! He almost dies due to the infections! He would just not stay put! He was a work-a-holic, now in a wheel chair :(. I miss him. He had to move to an assisted living community.
Mary I'm glad I reminded you of a nice memory. I will probably watch at least one "Jesus movie". My mom and I also would laugh about the fact that we were much more likely to watch some thriller about a psycho murderer during the holidays. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am passing on your warning to my brother. Maybe he'll call his surgeon on Monday just in case he wants to put him on an antibiotic.
I woke up to the sound of rain. I love that! I laid in bed for a while just to listen to it. Rain has come way too infrequently for the last few years. My dog has to be coaxed to go out in it, though. Today will be a nice stay at home day, wearing comfy clothes.
Hi..JL, I think your brother should call the dr too...just to be sure everything is ok. Very scary about Marys neighbor. He is sure getting around good though. Did you get your cards done today. I need to start wrapping and that does not thrill me. I have to first go through gifts and sort them. I'm really trying to cut back this year but I have such a hard time doing it. I love to give gifts. We are having weather today back in the 60's and that is much nicer than 5 on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteWent to lunch with my cousin today out by our outlet stores. My car tried to go to the Coach store but I kept my will power and didn't go...plus the traffic was crazy. We went to a nice Christmas dinner tonight with another couple it was fun and I think we so,bed all the world problems too!! Tomorrow I'm meeting my deceased husbands daughter and kids for lunch. I always enjoy seeing them and catching up. See..I don't have time to wrap.
Mary, got your bday, st pats, Christmas card today. Thank u. :) I guess you have 2016 covered.
Barb, what are you doing. Shopping?
Jake is still in jail and will be transferred on Monday. Kayla has tried her hardest to come up with bail money but hasn't been able to do it. She is finally at her dads tonight and took everything from the apt that was hers. Ive been so worried about her being there alone with no lock on a broken door. At least we can all rest tonight.
Morning...Ive been awake since 7. I seem to wake up every hour starting about 5am lately? I sure don't like it. I sorted thru a few present bags today and wrapped about five of them. I need to find my things that need to be mailed today. Jl, what did you get your kids and grandkids this year? Louis and I are only doing stockings since we just had vacation and a cruise on June. I spent about $200 on little things for his stocking. I happened to mention if and he said he thought he was putting candy and a cutie in my sock. Well, first of all it would probably have nuts and Im Not eating nuts right now. He was going back to our childhood days. Nuts, fruit and candy. I think he's looking for something else Lol. I got him a gift certificate for pedicure, Starbucks, tshirt..just little things.
ReplyDeleteWell, time to get ready for my lunch. Have a good day my dear friends.
Dianne Maybe you are becoming a morning person.
ReplyDeleteI am still working on the Christmas cards. Last night I worked on them while binge watching The Wire. Not very Christmas-y, I know. I have no idea what I am getting kids and grandkids. I'm not exactly rolling in dough right now. That reminds me, I don't know if I'll get around to baking and making fudge this year. It's really kind of a lot of work.
I just got back from the grocery store and my hands are freezing. According to my outside thermometer, it's about 51* right now. How could you stand it when it was only 5*?
I'm glad Kayla is in a safe place.
I suppose Louis knows that jewelry fits nicely into a stocking. LOL
Good grief, it can quit snowing any day now! It has been snowing non-stop since last night! We prolly have 8-10" and still counting!
ReplyDeleteI didn't attempt to go to the Funeral "showing" today. Snow plows have not been out our way yet. I am going to try to go to the funeral tomorrow. It is about 45 miles from here and a lot of side roads that probably won't be plowed, so I will be going a bit out of my way to hit the freeway. All the surrounding schools will be closed tomorrow.
Justl, I would kill to have it 51* here! All my gloves/mittens/hats/scarfs/boots are wet and drying for the next round of shoveling. We have a snow plow and snow blower, but a pain to get out every hour, as the snow is coming down! *sigh* it's only December!
Dianne, I too am glad Kayla is in a safe place tonight and Jake-ass is in his "safe place! I don't wish ill will on anyone, but enough is enough! His karma is catching up with him!
Jennifer B. and I spent the day yesterday helping Jennifer N. cover 75 mini paper cups and then putting bands around them to make them look like coffee to go. She even got lids and we decorated them too. She is going to fill them with chex mix and give them to her staff at work.
ReplyDeleteMy sister call while they were here and gave me some sad news. She always reads the paper from front to back and in the obits was a notice for my friend Sharon that I was in Sorority with. I was shocked. I haven't talked to her for a couple of months because she and her daughter have a booth at craft fairs and they are very busy this time of year. I talked to one of the women in my former chapter and Sharon was at a Sorority luncheon last Sunday and even helping with one of the raffles. She seemed fine. She had a doctor appointment on Monday and she didn't show, so they called her house and got no answer, so they called her daughter who was at work. The daughter also got no answer, so she sent her husband to Sharon's house and she apparently died in her sleep as she was still in bed. What a shock. She was a year younger than I am. Ya just never know!
J/L, I mailed my Christmas cards on Friday. I sent one to my former Secretary and Jen N. sent her one too. She got them both on Saturday. We made two different colors of the same card and Jen sent her one color and I sent her the other color. We didn't even plan it. She posted both cards on Facebook and we had quite a laugh about it when they were here yesterday. Jenn B. hasn't sent her cards yet, so she is going to make a different one for Teresa. LOL
ReplyDeleteDianne, I bet you feel much better knowing that Kayla is safe at her Dad's. Was J-ass transferred today? I hope they keep him for a looooong time!
ReplyDeleteMary, Brrrrr, I could not live where it snows so much. You need to get more gloves/mittens. etc. so you will always have dry ones.
ReplyDeleteSacBarb, I am so sorry about your Sorority sister! What a way to find out!
ReplyDeleteI have about had enough of funerals! Another friend of mine lost her hubby and his funeral is tomorrow! I have a Dental appointment at 10 am and my Union Retirees Christmas party at noon, then meeting my Great niece at 2:00 to exchange gifts! All in different cities!
The funeral is at 11 in the morning. I feel bad missing it, but I just don't have it in me to go to another one!
I have sent out the last of the Grand kids presents. My first year getting them out early! Cards are almost done too. I did miss at least one certain person who shall go nameless (Barb in Co.). LOL! I'm on it Barb!!
Hi....Jake-ass got transferred and had court today. He got jail for 120 days with re-evaluation 30-45 days. Tammy got up and talked so, needless to say, kayla is mad. He told judge he ran from court because he had to take care of his girlfriend. Tammy told court she was a minor until two months ago and has two loving homes to go to....I was glad tammy did that as she's been wanting to be involved when he's lying so much.
ReplyDeleteKayla spent last night at that horrible apt again and who knows why. This girl is so mixed up.
Barb, I'm so sorry about your friend. It seems so many people are passing away. It's so sad and a little scary too. That's funny about the Christmas cards to the same person..same card. Your cards are (as usual) really nice. Thank you.
JL, I don't think at my age I'll be turning into a morning person. It is kind of weird to be awake so early though. I should start wrapping when I wake up but I don't and I have a lot to wrap. Louis and I are going to do it on Sunday. I, like Mary, would love it to be 51 too. It was almost that today but possible snow tomorrow and the weekend. Are you and Barb coming to visit soon? :)
Mary, boy you are really getting hit with bad weather. I didn't send it to you. We only had about 2" of snow last week and now it's nice again. I'm scared to tell you about the new snow arriving here soon. I can live with the freezing as we don't get it very often but I really could live without the snow and just keep it in the mountains. I don't like the driving, being confined at home and trying to walk on it too.
Barb in WA....come back and talk to us.
Sure miss Jody.
Mary Be careful out there on those roads. I wish you didn't have to go so many places when you have the snow and ice. It is raining here today and it is expected to increase by tomorrow and be quite stormy with high winds. I worry about the winds as I don't want to lose any trees or any more fencing. I am going out to dinner tonight with a friend and we are just going to stay close and go to a steakhouse here in town.
ReplyDeleteI still have no idea what to get anyone for Christmas. I think it is going to be "The Year of the Gift Card". LOL I did buy stuff yesterday to make several types of cookies and fudge. Now I have to actually make them. You'd think with age I'd be less stressed about this stuff but it's the opposite.
Barb I'm so sorry about your friend. I worry about that for myself. Well, I worry about it in relation to my dog and how long she'd be in this house before anyone realized I was gone. I always make sure her water bowl is full when I go to bed, at least, and keep the bedroom door open so she can get to it. Well, this train of thought is not putting me in the holiday spirit.
ReplyDeleteI just finished addressing my holiday cards last night but I probably won't get them to the post office until Friday. I always look forward to seeing what kind of card you made and they never disappoint.
Dianne Well, good that Jake-ass finally got some form of punishment for his behavior. Kayla seems to want the freedom of being an adult and not having to answer to anyone but she still hasn't figured out that it comes with responsibilities and hard work to attain it. I'm glad Tammy got a chance to talk in court.
ReplyDeleteI was up unusually early today and it was a good thing as I got a call from my friend (and travel agent) and had to make some decisions about flight schedules for my daughter and I next April. At least I had half a cup of coffee in me and was able to think coherently. LOL
There was a lull in the rain so I got my cards to the post office. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHi.....not much from this part of the country tonight. Weather is nice and going to 60 the next couple of days and then 9 for high on Saturday with snow. I volunteered to take a Barb to airport on Saturday but Louis is my snow backup. It's quite a drive so he's not thrilled. Maybe the weather report will be wrong. It was actually supposed to snow today and it was sunny.
ReplyDeleteKayla wants to make jake-ass food packages because he doesn't like the food. He'd better get used to it. He calls her constantly. Stupid. Hopefully she has run out of money and no one will give her anymore.
Today was WW, lunch and hair color day. Even lost a few pounds!!
JL. Glad you got your cards in the mail. We are getting three packages in the mail tomorrow. We got them all ready tonight. NOw we just have to wrap and wrap and wrap. I never bake anymore. I just have no desire and I used to love to make cookies.
Mary, Like J/L, I worry about you doing so much driving in snow and bad weather. Does your car have snow tires? I have never driven in snow, and I'm sure I wouldn't do a very good job if I had to!
ReplyDeleteDianne, So even tho Jake-ass is in jail, he can call Kayla every day? Too bad he doesn't like the food. It sounds like he is quite the whiner!
I wish I had someone to help me wrap gifts. I need a Louis! I have to do it tomorrow after I get back from lunch so I can get them in the mail on Friday. Every year I wait until the last minute. ughhh
J/L, We had some rain last night and expect more tomorrow. I am supposed to go to lunch with a couple of friends, so I hope it doesn't rain until late afternoon! I really hate to drive in the rain.
Waving a floppy wing to Jodi and Barb in WA.
