An Irish Toast

by Dianne

John O’Reilly hoisted his beer and said, ‘Here’s to spending the rest of me life, between the legs of me wife!’

That won him the top prize at the pub for the best toast of the night!

He went home and told his wife, ‘Mary, I won the prize for the Best toast of the night!’

She said, ‘Aye, did ye now. And what was your toast?’

John said, ‘Here’s to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife.’

‘Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!’ Mary said.

The next day, Mary ran into one of John’s drinking buddies on the street corner.

The man chuckled leeringly and said, ‘John won the prize last night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary.’

She said, ‘Aye, he told me, and I was a bit surprised meself. You know, he’s only been there twice in the last four years.  Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come.’

  1. Ha ha...I’m laughing at my own blog. I forget these blogs I send to Tina.

JL, safe driving to airport today with the dogs. Doing anymore shopping today?

Hooters, be sure and read Area 51

  2. Dianne Hahaha! That was a good one. Thanks for keeping us furnished with blogs.

As for shopping, I had to take back one of the pairs of jean as it had stitching coming undone. I don't really care for the other pair I got that day, either, as they stretch out to much as I wear them. I also returned the tennis shoes I bought as I did not try them on in the store since they were same brand and size that I had on my feet at the time. Well, when I got home I couldn't even get my foot into them. It was like I was one of Cinderella's step-sisters. I did leave the store with a different pair of jeans and so far they aren't horrible but still not super happy. This is why I hate shopping. I have to go in for a blood pressure check on Wednesday so I think I may stop in at Macy's to see if there's anything there that I like.

  3. Mary Did you find out what was going on with the urine test? I hope all is okay and that you still have your Wednesday surgery date. You've waited so long for it that I'm sure you are ready to get it over with so you can move forward.

Our air quality is still horrible due to the smoke from the fire north of here. My daughter comes home tonight and so far her flight is delayed about an hour due to poor visibility. I'm sure her dogs will be so very happy to see her and I will be happy to only share my bed with one dog, not three. Once Elizabeth lands, it will take about 20 or so minutes to get back to my house where she can get her dogs and their stuff and her car. Once she's all packed up, it will take her about an hour drive to get home. I hope the flight doesn't get delayed any later as it is already coming in at 9:20.

  4. Barb I hope you don't have to stand in line too long for DWTS. It's annoying that you have to worry about "first come, first served" even when you got tickets.

  5. So barb got tickets? That’s great. I imagine that will be really fun. JL, it sounds like your shopping trip was a bust! I don’t wear jeans anymore. I don’t like how they stretch out so much. I finally just got done packing. I had to try everything on yo see if it fits or not. I wanted to bring a few Christmas shirts with me for the christmas shows. I used those cubes to pack this time and they seemed To do a pretty good job. I know I will hear complaining from Louis when he picks up the suitcase! He always does so it won’t be anything new. I even got my leather jacket in there. Those fires are so terrible. You’d better be careful with the breathing of the smoke. Boy, your daughter will be getting home late. I hope her flight isn’t delayed anymore.

Snow is all gone this am with sun shining. It’s supposed to be clear everywhere we go driving in the next two days. I hope so and coming back too.

    Mary...everything ok?

  6. Well, today we went to Branson landing a wonderful shopping area on the lake and had lunch there and I shopped and shopped. Just scooted around in my hair while Louis dat outside on a bench people watching. The weather was 70 here today but going to only 40 tomorrow. We went to see tony Orlando show tonight. He’s 74 and can sing great and move! He’s kind of chubby but gets around. Show was almost two hours without an intermission! He sang his old famous songs and then it the show kind of turned into like a broadway play with Christmas music, Santa, angels, etc. It was beautiful and one our favorite. Would see it again in a minute. Focused on the reason for the season with Santa involved. Kids there were in awe and came on the stage. The whole show left you with such a good happy feeling.

We saw the Oakridge Boys the other night....their voices aren’t too great. One of them is 79...they all got kind of old!

Mary, so glad you’re all done with your surgery and on the road to recovery. Don’t overdo it though.

Barb...did you go to DWTS? Tell us about it. Anxious to hear about your trip too.

JL, how was blood pressure test? I feel so sorry for you and Barb with all this smoke. Is it getting any better? Are you missing having all those dogs?

Btw, I started trip trying to watch calories ...it’s not working too great Anymore!

  7. Dianne It sounds like your vacation is off to a good start. Funny how the Oak Ridge Boys got old. I remember when they seem to win a lot of music awards. We didn't age, did we?

My blood pressure test was okay once I was left to relax for about 5 minutes or so. It was on the high side at first. It ended up fine so no need to change my medication. I'm sure it didn't help that I was coughing from the smokey air right before going in.

Speaking of smoke...it was better here today but I took my daughter to Benihana's in Burlingame and as soon as we left Pacifica, the air was noticeably brown and horrible. this is not good for anyone's health.

My daughter and I keep going back and forth about if we want to go on that 10 day Mexico cruise in February. It was really a good deal but she's worried about being off work so long at that time of year and neither of us should spend the money, to be honest. However, when we look at doing a 7 day one instead, the price ends up the same since it wouldn't be such a good deal. I hate giving up a deal. We have until December 8 to either cancel or make final payment.

  8. Mary How are you doing? Are you doing your exercises like you are supposed to? I hope your men folk are giving you a hand around the house and don't expect you to do everything as if all is normal.

Tomorrow morning I leave for my brother's for 8 days. At least this time he has two good knees and he will not be recuperating like he was at this time for the last two years. I will be glad to get out of this smokey air. He does not live by the fires down there and is not in the path of the smoke. I'm having my usual dilemma about what to pack. It looks like it's going to be mild during the day but cools down considerably by night. I always over pack.

  9. Barb Where are you? I know you made it home from LA and are now in our northern California smoke rather than the southern California smoke. This is really getting old. I finally ordered a mask and it arrived the other night but I haven't used it yet as air was better here in Pacifica. I either have a cold or have reaction from the smoke, not sure which. Sneezing, runny nose, scratchy throat. I am allergic to trees, grass, and pretty much everything else so it could be allergies rather than a cold. I am packing to leave for my brother's in the morning and am making sure to pack Dayquil and Nyquil.

Now that you have a helper in the kitchen, who will be cooking on Thanksgiving? I'll be cooking for my brother and I but will make it as easy and stress free as possible. I do find it difficult to cook in someone else's kitchen, though.

  10. My brother doesn't have Wi-Fi so I may not be here much during the next 8 days. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  11. Hi gals.
Surgery went great . Dr said there was a lot of scar tissue. He cleaned it all out and removed the old prosthesis. I got a new and improved one.
I am working really hard on my exercises, but not being able to take pain meds makes it very hard.
I have a hard time finding a comfortable way to sleep. Tomorrow is the last day for Home therapy. Zoie will be so happy! She had had to be leashed because she has been overprotective and not so nice to strangers! Not sure what I will do tomorrow. Jim has bowling and Matthew will be gone. If I tie her up she will bark non stop!
    Can you say “STRESS!”
Sorry I didn’t comment to each of you. Love yah bunches!!

  12. Had my first out of home PT today. Thank goodness they start out slow! My in home therapists were waaaay pushy! Some days I could barely walk!
I decided to do a bit of grocery shopping. Not my best idea! I made 2 stops. I must have looked like a sorry sight humped over my cart. I did ask for help for loading my groceries. They don't have pick up orders in my area yet, or I would have shopped on line and just picked tem up!
Matthew was alone with Zoie for a while today. He has had a terrible cough & cold. I am assuming from being around school kids. He said he got coughing so hard that he passed out! H never knew! He found himself on the kitchen floor. He fell on his forehead and wrist. He has a big bruise on his head and his wrist is swelled up. I cried when he told me! He thinks it was the hard coughing and possibly the heavy doses of NyQuil that he has been taking.
Jim had an apptm. in Lansing the same time of my appmt in Ionia, miles apart!
My biggest challenge was getting in & out of my Jeep, not to mention having my knee bent for so long.
I made the guys a nice meal. We have all been eating horribly and not resting properly. I made a pumpkin pie and am ready for bed!

    Happy Thanks Giving everyone!!!
