Amazing Old Timers

Chosen by Turtle

I had this forwarded to me recently and have watched it several times. I love how this couple who have been married for 62 years still have a sense of humor and slap each other on the ass when they change position. If only I could be so lucky and meet someone to spend the rest of my days being this happy with.

An elder couple walked into the lobby of the Mayo Clinic and spotted a piano. They've been married for 62 years and he'll be 90 this year.

It's all in the attitude. Enjoy!!

Just Silly!

by Tina~in_ut

I don't know why, but this video just makes me laugh. The first time I watched it I thought, what a horrible example for kids. Then I saw the end......and I couldn't stop laughing. I hope you find it funny, too~

The closeness of it all!

Did you ever see something and see pure sunshine added with happy smiles, well sure you did, and so did I. When I saw this picture, that is exactly what I saw. Such a simple picture, taken with a few seconds of time, yet so profound and meaningful. Its yellow is evident, and the smiles are real. Happiness beams thru.

I will surly look back at this picture for years to come, and I will remember the stance, how close we were to each other, the feeling of loving hands on my back, and mine on theirs. Such wonderful young ladies they both are, the closeness is for me, to help me with my insecurities of myself, they stayed close to me for me, and I appreciate it so. As if not for their caring and understanding this picture would not be.

I hope someday I will be able to take many pictures of myself in complete confidence, but for now this will do, as I always say "baby steps" it always seems to work..

Melissa and Jessica, Thank You! ♥♥♥

WAKE UP!

by Just_Lin

I have never been a morning person and I really hate hearing the alarm clock go off. One of the best things about being retired is not having to set the alarm except for rare occasions.

When I used to work full time, there were days I'd hit that snooze button until it just plain ran out........and I'd keep on sleeping. When I used to have the clock radio set to have music come blasting on to wake me, I'd end up incorporating the music into my dream........and I'd keep on sleeping. More than once, my loud music woke my daughter in the next bedroom but only her pounding on my bedroom door got me to wake up. Even my brother had to wake me up when he was visiting and my alarm woke him when he was sleeping on the couch in the living room, There are times I have turned the alarm completely off and awakened later with no memory of that at all.

No matter what kind of alarm it is....music, clanging, beeping, or buzzing....alarms are just plain rude. It seems they always wake you right during the deepest, most restful time of your sleep. Plus, that's when the bed feels absolutely the best....perfect, in fact. No matter how long it may have taken you to fall asleep the night before, that bed could not be more perfect in the morning when that alarm jolts you awake. The pillow is arranged perfectly under your head, the blankets are providing just the right amount of warmth, the mattress seems molded to fit your body. Oh, and if it's raining outside, nothing feels more absolutely perfect and comforting than that bed when the alarm goes off.

I have my clock radio alarm set on "buzzer" and now that I no longer work full time, I'm not used to hearing the alarm so it does succeed in waking me up. I had to set it for this morning so I could get to an appointment in time. Now that I am ready to go to bed for the night, I will have to remember to unset it so it doesn't wake me in the morning for no reason, whatsoever. I really hate when that happens.

Things that make you wonder

by Goldie

Remember the building that burned down next to us last August? Very sad – it housed the 4-C community coordinated childcare office as well as Lutheran Social Services. I have already commented on the blog that the construction guys are not up the same caliber of physique as my fireman.

The good news is that they are re-building. The walls are up they are really cooking on this place. Been working it now for a couple of months. So yesterday, as I am leaving work I see at the end of cul-du-sac our building is on, a HUGE banner proclaiming that tomorrow- May 21st, 2009 is the ground-breaking event for the new building from 11 to 2 p.m. HELLO? Hasn’t that ship already sailed? A groundbreaking for a ½ constructed building? Hmmm, makes you shake your head on who came up with that idea.

Another head-scratcher. My oldest son, 29 years old (I was just a baby when I had him) calls this morning and says he needs me to fax him a copy of his High School diploma. Why? Well it seems that the Paramedical Program he is enrolling in requires it. I say to him “ son, you are already enrolled in college (required high school info too) and just got your semester grades (which were fantastic) and you are an accredited, certified EMT and RTA. Why don’t they just use the transcript from the college you are enrolled in?? He asked the same question. Nope- don’t care if you are in college, graduated college or have any degrees or are the Surgeon General- they want to make sure you graduated High School. WTF? So I have now sent an 11-year-old High School Diploma copy to him and he has to acquire his High School transcripts once again. Makes sense to me, NOT.

One more thing- ever notice when you walk in to a store they have reusable bags for sale? Usually close to the entrances where you walk in at many Mall stores. However, when you get to the checkout with the stuff you really didn’t intend to purchase, but did anyway, they don’t sell the bags at the counter?? Again, whose brainchild is this? If I know I am buying stuff I take my bags in. If I end up buying stuff and didn’t plan ahead, I would like the bag at the counter to purchase. HELLO MACYS and PENNY’S are you listening??????

So what makes you shake your head- especially knowing that someone is paid to think these things through and this is the best they can do??

~ Angels & Demons ~

Angels & Demons is a fantastic movie and I want to see it again. Maybe I'm biased. I'm Catholic AND the movie takes place in my favorite cities, Rome and Vatican City. There is just something about it.....when you've been to almost every place shown in the movie, it comes to life for you. Both my husband and I were whispering with excitement throughout the movie about the different places we have seen in real life. I was shaking my head when the main characters walk into the Pantheon and there is hardly anyone there.....NOT!!!! That place is always packed and it's hard to move around!

I realize that most of the movie is filmed on a sound stage using green screens, but it's still fun to see all the different places. Even when they are racing down to St. Peter's tomb, it looks so realistic. They were not permitted to film in any churches, so the fact that they were able to re-create everything is amazing. The Cardinals really look like they are standing in the Sistine Chapel.

The other thing I love about the movie is the co-mingling of Religion and Science. The movie begins with a priest at Cern working on an experiment. The argument for and against the combining of the two is heard throughout. It reminded me of my blog with Bear. I even thought of him during the show~

I would highly recommend seeing this movie, but if not, at least read the book. For more fun facts click here~

My start of the Summer

Memorial Day has always meant to me, the beginning of summer, even tho summer does not officially start till June, it does not matter in my mind, today my summer begins. Each year my family host a BBQ on this day, we have been doing it for years. My mom enjoys the cooking and hosting, by days end she looks a little weary, but she tells me its all worth it. We have family and friends in attendance and of course lots of food. The grill is on and cooking practically all day. Food is in abundance, you name we have it, including pizza made lovingly by Sarah which she cuts up into bite sizes pieces and serves with a smile. And what BBQ would not be complete without beer, so we have $65.00 dollars worth of, I hope its enough. :O)

And let us not forget why Memorial Day is a so special. We honor our fallen military, our amazing hero's, who each gave their life to protect our rights for freedom as Americans.

I am in awe of their courage.

I praise them.

I thank them.

It is truly a special day!
