Earth Day
Three Promises to the Earth
by vig
April 22nd. It is Earth Day today! Happy special day to this incredible planet. This planet that is so loved and so beautiful yet so at risk. It worries me what the earth will be like in one hundred years, two hundred years, a thousand years. The baby that is born at this very moment as I type, what will her generation and generations to follow inherit? And what can we as individual global citizens do to stop the destruction of our planet?
We have talked here on the blog about what we do to live green and environmentally aware and it was inspiring and motivating to read how we Owls protect our global nest.
The celebration of Earth Day began on April 22nd, 1970 and was a time when people all over North America made promises to help the earth. I challenge you now to take things further then what you are presently doing and on this day of honoring the earth, to make three promises that you know you can keep and are do-able and are meant to help save our planet.
My three promises to the Earth:
I promise to have fewer and shorter showers so I waste less water.
I promise to ride my bike more and drive my car less.
I promise to read newspapers and magazines on line and buy less products that use paper which subsequently means that fewer trees will be cut down.
Now it' your turn. On this Earth Day 2008, what three promises can and will you make to the Earth?
Good Morning Everyone!
ReplyDeleteGood morning birdee- congrats on 1st!
ReplyDeleteI really am going to have to think about the 3 things. I don't want to make a promise I am going to break. Its not easy being green...just ask Kermit.
ReplyDeleteGood morning everyone! I am on my way to bed and thought I would check in first.
ReplyDeleteVIG: Great blog! I think this is an important subject and I know there are things we all can do to help save the Earth for future generations. My three pomises..
1) Bring grocery bags with me to the store instead of taking more home.
2) Recycle everything I can.
3) Instead of running the dryer, hang clothes out on the line. The neighbors will just have to look away when it's underwear day. ;)
Another simple thing they tell us to do in Arizona, is to get the gas for the car at night. I'll be sure that Mr. Z does that from now on.
I know there are many more simple things I can do..like reading the paper online..I like that one. I'll be interested to read what others have to say.
Congrats BIRDEE my fine feathered Hooter friend on FIRST!!
Now I am off to bed!
Good job VIG! G'night to everyone!
Hi GOLDIE!! You are looking especially bright eyed today!
ReplyDeleteEveryone have a great day..see ya in five hours or so!
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteBirdeeeeeeeeee yay good to see you and 1st too!
Vig: Great Blog!
I too will have to think on this. I am running around here today because I am going to have to wait on the cable guy today. I was told between 8 am and 12 noon he should be here!
Why am I thinking yeah right??? Mr. Lynn D went into a tizzy last week because our local phone company has not been living up to it's promises. He called the cable company and then scheduled this while he is out of town!! Arggggh
I will check back in a bit with my 3 things.
Hi ya Goldie and Zona!! Waving at anyone who posts after I do!!
HI LYNND!!! Dontcha just love the cable company's "window" of arrival?? Good luck with them today, hope they get there early and you can get that over with!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm really going now. ;)
Morning owls!
ReplyDeleteZona...Why gas at night? I've never heard of that.
The only earth friendly thing I've done lately is to go to the Restore outlet to look for recycled building materials. You can find great things there (beautiful woodwork etc) and it's cost efficient too!
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Lovey. May you enjoy many more beautiful years together.
Congratulations Birdee on #1.
Hi goldie , I'm needing to think a little about this too.
Zona~sleep well. Night.
Vig~ great blog and a lot of food for thought. I've been reading my newspapers online for 2 or 3 years now, and recycle as much as I can. Like Goldie, I want to make a promise I can keep. Your subject is one I have often worried about, what kind of world are we leaving our fellow human beings in generations to come.
One promise for sure~~I live alone and don't have many dirty dishes and usually load my dishwasher several times before it's full, then turn it on, which is about every 3 days. From now on, I'll make better use of the space and push for 4 days before I turn it on.
BBL
Morning Glories to you lynnD
ReplyDeleteand scirish. Hope you are well today.
LynnD~ wouldn't it be nice if service people that come to "service" us were like the pizza places? Acertain amount of waiting time, or it's free?
ReplyDeleteGood luck today.
SCIRISH: Good morning to you. I never really understood it..they say it has to do with more fumes going into the air during the heat of the day. I don't know if it also has to do with the amount of people 'gassing up' during the day.
ReplyDeleteThey tell us this every summer though.
!!!BEAR!!!???? Do you know why??
I am so interested in what everyone has to say, I'll never get to sleep!! LOL!!
RGIRL: Good morning to you as well sweet lady!
ReplyDeleteLOVEY: It's your anniversary and I forgot! Shame on me! Hope you have a wonderful day..!! :)
Ok..Mr. Z is stomping..this is good night for real (CPGEM--I see why you have such a difficult time signing off some nights!! LOL!)
Happy Earth Day!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Birdee for being numero uno today!
Vig this is an awesome blog! Really makes you think.
I will give this more thought, but something I recently started to do was, like Zona, taking my own bags to the store.
I shop at Trader Joes, and they have cool paper bags with handles. I took some with me yesterday and believe they give you a little discount for doing that, plus give you a chance to win free groceries.
We recycle everything we can, and I try to buy recycled paper products (Costco even sells those tall kitchen garbage bags that are recycled).
Zona, I too want to know why you buy gas at night? I've always heard you should buy it in the morning (although I don't know why!).
MEK, the guy and gals on The Bachelor did not disappoint. They all said AMAZING many, many times. We don't even count any more.
It starts to sound ridiculous after a while. Sometimes you hear it 2 or 3 times in 1 sentence.
Hope you all have an AMAZING day today!
I have a few minutes before cable guy watch starts.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about the 3 things and here is what I have come up with:
1. The day before yesterday I bought 12 cloth bags for grocery shopping.
2. When we decide on the new car I want to get one that is just as fuel efficient or more fuel efficient than what we have.
3. This is an election year and I am paying close attention to candidates that address the global warming issue and don't sweep it under the rug. That is for National as well as local. So I will be voting for the people that are serious about this and really take big business to task over the polluting they cause.
Owls I think I will tell the cable guy I will pay the bill between the Tenth of the month and the 25th as these are paydays. Think they will wait??? LMAO
Going to check MS and see if they are still having problems.
Zona: Gasoline fumes react with sunlight to form ground-level ozone, a major ingredient in smog. The hotter it is, the more fumes evaporate when you fill up. Fill up at night, and there's no sunlight to precipitate the chemical reaction!
ReplyDeleteEarth day! What an incredible mess we were getting into back in the 60's with our water and air pollution! Now it's greenhouse gas emissions.
TN-VIG, I promise to limit my commute to 5 minutes or less for the rest of my working life. I promise to purchase a hybrid car within the next year. And I promise to join the International Dark Sky Assocation (IDSA).
Because I care about light pollution, too! In fact, I despise it. When I travel to Houston, I sometimes drive down I-45 from George Bush Airport to NASA Parkway quite late at night. Every time, I want to scream at the auto dealerships dotted along the highway: TURN OFF YOUR FUCKING LOT LIGHTS!
WHY does the management of every large auto dealership in existence think that they have to flood their lot with illumination all night long? Like that's going to influence somebody driving by to purchase a car from them????
Pet peeve here... sorry!
Happy Earth Day, Owls!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to Lovey and Mr. Lovey. Does your present to him involve the afternoon or sunshine?
Zona....congrats! See...one of your guesses was right! And I'm glad you'll be hanging that thong out to dry on the clothesline instead of using the dryer!
Tinka...Happy Birthday Eve!!!
Wow Morning Owls...I love, love, love what you are doing or are willing to do to be good to the earth! Hanging laundry, recycling everything, voting for environmentally minded candidates, buying fuel-efficient cars, using the dishwasher less, taking your own bags to the grossery store, using recycled building materials. Fabulous!
And I think what I was thinking about in writing this blog, was what our wonderul CPGEM talks about...baby steps. What small thing that wouldn't change your life drastically, could you do to be green (and your right Kermit and Goldie..it ain't easy bein' green...but it's possible!!) you are not doing now? If you get your morning takeout coffee in a paper or styrofoam cup, could you get a travel mug for that? If you leave appliances or chargers plugged in when they aren't in use, could you unplug them? If all the cleaners you use are harsh or toxic, could you start introducing homemade or non-toxic cleaners? Baby steps!
Happy Earth Day Everyone -
ReplyDeleteI am wearing my Earth Day T shirt.
Good Morning Early Birdee - Did you get the worm?
Good Morning my friend Vig - Great post. I am thinking of what else I can do for the earth as I type.
Good Morning to the best cyber daughter anyone could ever wish for. I just read your e-mail, VERY interesting. I hope you are asleep by now.
Good Morning my dear friends Goldie, Lynn, Scirish and Ronniegirl, and all the other owls soon to arrive.
Our spring weather is back. Thank goodness. It still isn't very warm but at least it's sunny.
VIG - I remember that first Earth Day. We had such hopes. Every child in the school went home with a little tree to plant. So many were left behind. I wonder how many are big trees now. I have been trying ever since to help the earth. Our city has one of the best recycling systems in North America. When I was visiting Cincy I couldn't believe the number of things that city would not accept in the blue box. I hope they have changed that now. I have cut back where ever I can on using gas, water and electricity. I know I could do better but I really do try all year long not just on Earth Day.
Hi Whabbear...posting when you were! I totally agree with you about light pollution..drives me nutty. I have never heard of DSA...I will be Googling that. Your explanation of the reason to buy gas at night was great. From an unscientific mind, just wondering in a colder yet sunny area, like parts of Canada, would this be an issue...is it more about the sunlight or the heat?
ReplyDeleteTWENTY!!!
ReplyDeleteVIG - Thank you for the "Eve" wishes. Zona is doing a count down for me. Isn't she sweet? I am doing all those things you are asking us to do except the clothes line. Did you see where they are now bringing in laws that make it illegal for subdivision boards to forbid the use of clothes lines? If you buy a home in any of the High end subdivision areas you are not allowed to put up clothes lines because they are considered 'unsightly'. That has been going on for over 40 years and it will be stopped this year. I think that's great.
ReplyDeleteHello again!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the congrats!
Nice to see you all.
Lovey!!!!!! Happy Anniversary!
(((((((HUGS))))))) to you and Mr. Lovey
I've been thinking about the topic, and I do alot of these things to cut back.....but.....
I need someone to talk to Mr. Birdee, cuz he kind of bitches about doing these things!
When I unplugged most of the lamps, toaster, remove his phone charger, tell him to stop putting things in the trash and use the recycle bin, etc..he has to argue and ignore....HELP!!!!!
Anyone want to send me a email addressed to him about the Importance of doing these thing?!!
Feel Free!!!! I have no idea if he is just being stubborn or a bit lazy!
Sounds like I'm bitching..Sorry!
I just get frustrated.
But, until he comes around, I'll just have to follow him around and separate the trash, and unplug, ect...
sorry! venting is over!
xoxoxoxox
Happy Tuesday!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Earth Day..
Good Morning..
Birdee - congrats on Number ONE!!
Living in Southern AZ - we have been told to buy gas very early in the a.m. because the HEAT of the day expands your gas tank and also the gas vaporizes and you are NOT receiving the actual gas that you are paying for - does that make sense??!!
Whabby - living in an area that is BIG - HUGE - on star gazing - the town is NOT allowed street lights, so that the sky is TOTALLY light reflected clear (now - that did NOT really make sense!!)..
EBJ - I am AMAZED that the guy and gals did NOT disappoint!!
:-)
Good Morning, Birdee, Goldie, Zona, Lynn D, Scirish, Ronnie, Whabby, VIG and Tinka and all those to follow!!!
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!!
:-)
Good Morning Whabbear - I didn't see you fly in this morning. I so much agree with your comments about light pollution. Our Parliament Buildings are lit up every night with a million little lights. They used to turn them on for holidays and special occasions. Now to attract the tourists they are on every night.
ReplyDeleteWe have watering restrictions in our city starting the first of May and ending Oct l (even though our reservoir is full) and we all abide by the rules. Then you see the city watering the boulevards in the middle of the hot summer days with most of it either evaporating or landing on the streets rather than on the grass. Things that make me go hmmmm.
Good Morning Mek - You have a great Earth day too.
ReplyDeleteI am off to answer messages. I will return shortly. Did I thank you VIG for getting us revved up about Earth day? If I didn't I am thanking you now dear friend.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast/Brunch
ReplyDeleteTropical fruit salad
Whole-grain french toast
Baked french toast/w rasp. sauce
Banana nut french toast
Buttermilk fench toast
Pear-stuffed french toast
Maple butter
Juices
Tea
Coffee
Pink carnations for everyone
Could someone unplug the coffee pot when they are done please, and don't forget to turn the lights out. Thanks.
Congrats on first Birdee!
Happy Anniversary Lovey and Mr. Lovey.
Hi to everyone else!
Great blog VIG!
My list:
1. remember my cloth bags when I shop
2. use less water
3.turn off and unplug more things
Flying back in for just a minute.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Ms. Shirley. You are so thoughtful to serve us breakfast. I believe I'll have the tropical fruit salad and coffee.
Oh, I'll unplug the coffee pot too.
I forgot to tell y'all, I apparently did something years ago and didn't even know I was helping the environment. When our coffee was finished perking, I'd pour it in a glass lined Thermos pitcher, to keep it from getting stronger as it sat on the heating element.
So I guess I was saving a lot of energy by doing that.
I still have two of those pitchers and I think I'll start doing this again. (it really does keep coffee from becoming bitter after an hour or so, too)
vig, or anyone~~
I've recycled plastic grocery bags for years now, but maybe that's always the best way to go. I like the cloth bag idea, because it just occured to me that it takes energy to process and recycle all those plastic bags. I can understand the plastic bottles, etc., but this has given me a whole new perspective about all the Kroger and Wal-Mart bags. So, my question is.....How cost effective and environmentally constructive is recycleing the plastic bags, because of the energy usage to do so? Does that make sense?
Good morning everyone!
ReplyDeleteBirdee Good to see the chickenowl arrived first today.
VIG Great blog today. One that really has me thinking.
I already am doing quite a bit in regards to recycling, using energey efficient light bulbs where I can, driving a Prius, short showers, only running full load dishwasher, etc. I cancelled the daily paper and only get Sunday edition. I only have lights on if I am in the room. I use Bounty Select-a-size paper towels because most of the time 1/2 towel is sufficient for my needs.
There are a few things around here that I can unplug. I will have to think more to come up with a couple of more things I can do.
Shirley You always do a great job on breakfast. Thank you.
Good Morning Shirley - I am rushing today so I am picking up my banana nut fresh toast and tea and keeping on keeping on. Thanks Sweetie for doing this every morning. Love, Tinka
ReplyDeleteShirley, I am not telling Mr. Goldie what is on your breakfast menu or he will leave me and move in with you! Banana nut pancakes could get me replaced, lol.
ReplyDeleteI thought some more and I think I do a good job of trying to be green. I turn off and unplug things not in use, I only use the dishwasher when it is full, same with washer, I take short showers and I dont' water the lawn.
I also keep my little cavalier in part (yesterdays blog) because it is so fuel efficient. I also try to buy recycled products whenever available, and I recycle everthing I can.
I am sure there are LOTS of other things I can do and I will try to do better on a daily basis.
JODI-sounds like a good choice for purses. Now help me pick one out too!
Hello to everyone who has been on since I posted earlier and hello for those to follow!!
I meant french toast- but pretty much most of your menus could get me replaced Shirley!
ReplyDeleteBirdie
ReplyDeletecongrats on being first. As for Mr. Birdie..hon, he's just being a typical married male. They start out with flowers and are so romantic and then after the I Do's they get that stubborn streak.
Shirley
Thank you for breakfast. It's all so delicious. I will just pick at my food this morning and have tropical fruit salad, but perhaps you can hide me a banana nut french toast for mid afternoon when I feel less bloated. I am still full from last night. I had a dinner party and we stuffed ourselves.
Wabbear said the F word. Bear when you have your lunch break then you must go to the naughty mat for shocking my little virgin eye balls. :0)
Happy Tuesday Owls. We are going to have another glorious day, but then we are supposed to get some April showers.
ReplyDeleteBridee: Congrats on being the early 'birdee.'
LynnD: I hope your cable guy is as cute as mine was.
Lovey: Happy Anniversary to you and Mr. Lovey and I hope you have many more.
Shirley: So many kinds of French Toast I don't know which one to pick. Thanks, and for the carnation too. I'll put it with my rose from yestrday.
Just_Lin: I love those Bounty select a size towels too. I used to tear the big ones in half when I only needed a smaller one. I was so happy when these came out. I only wish I had thought of it.
Shout out to goldie, zona, scirish, ronnie, EBJ, Bear, Tinka, MEK, and dreama.
HAPPY EARTH DAY EVERYONE!
ReplyDeletecongrats on 1st today birdee!
i'm need to do some stuff at work. imagine that!
later!
Vig, great blog on Earth Day. I remember the first one in 1970.
ReplyDeleteI have already been doing some things to 'be green' but I am sure I can do more. I recycle as much as I can, I have a Hybrid car, I use the squirrely light bulbs, I only use the dishwasher once a week, I don't take the paper, and I take my own bags to the gross-ry store.
I need to shorten my shower time, especially since they have just put in water meters. I am now paying a flat rate, but that will change very soon.
I am going to put up a clothes line. I really like drying my clothes outside, but I haven't had a clothes line for a long time.
I will start unplugging appliances when they are not in use, to the extent that I can. There are some plugs I can't reach easily, like the washer and dryer so they will have to stay plugged in until I can figure out an easy way to reach them.
I hope you all have an amazing (for MEK) Earth Day. Be back later.
hmmmmm......pretty quiet here in the nest today. i hope that means that everyone is outside enjoying the earth!
ReplyDeleteNope barb- busy working (for a change)tee hee
ReplyDeleteBut I am leaving her in a few minutes and I am going to enjoy the sun and take Pepper for a walk.
Talk to you all later!
Good afternoon ALL!! I hope everyone is having a great day. It is 92 degrees here...yuck!
ReplyDeleteWHABBEAR: Thanks for the easy to understand answer to my question from this morning!
MEK: You're right...I'm pretty sure that they do tell us to either fill the car up late at night or very early in the morning. Either way works for Mr. Z in the summer, since the sun is coming up by 5am in June!
EBJ: Thank goodness for BEAR, cuz I really didn't know!
LYNND: So what time did the cable guy finally get there?? ;)
RGIRL: Our only dishwasher..is ME!! LOL! Seems wrong in 2008 though, doesn't it?? ;)
VIG: There's one thing that I sure wish this state would do..GO SOLAR! About five years ago they decided to save money by turning off the lights on the freeway at night..no kidding!! That lasted about a week. I always wondered why they didn't just make all street lights solar..I mean we have an abundance of sunshine here. Just this last month, the city has completed a project where they put solar panels on the Civic Plaza downtown. I understand the initial dollar output may be expensive, but the money the city could save...and the energy it could store would make it so worth it.
Mr. Z and I have looked into solar panels..for us they are just cost prohibitive right now..but we do have neighbors that have them.
TINKA: Only eight and a half hours!! Woo Hoo!!!
BARB/WA: To be honest..I was enjoying the pillows...;)
SACBARB: LOL @ "squirrely light bulbs"
Waving a BIG HELLO to J/LIN and SHIRLEY!!
Good afternoon everybody!
ReplyDeleteCable Guy showed up at 10:00 not to bad. The only problem is that we have never had cable at this house. No one before us and we have used an antenna for the last 10 years. I like it because no bills!
But with everything going digital soon and Mr. Lynn D wants bigger, better, Faster internet we are getting cable.
The cable guy was really nice Sacbarb but not a hunk! LOL Anyway he did not think they could run an overhead line to our house as it would not be high enough for code. So it looks like they will have to trench our driveway and through our backyard to the garage.
Of course he had to turn it over to their construction/engineering dept. So it will be another week or two before we hear from them.
Our house sits quite a ways off of the road and our driveway is hard pack rock so lets see how they get through that. Could be very interesting!
I flew out and did some errands and now I am going to go sit and veg for awhile.
birdee
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first!
vig
Thanks for the blog today! I so appreciate it.
I have done nothing for Earth Day, I know I should, but I just can't think of anything. And I can't promise three things, I can promise one tho I will recycle, that I can do!
It is a beautiful day here NJ, I was stuck in my office, however everyone that came in today said was nice out.
ReplyDelete*******Breaking News*******
New computer has arrived and is sitting in a box at my house. My nephew is coming over Thursday Nite to hook it up. I am excited..
Quiet day here in the nest today. That means everyone is out and about which is a good thing...
ReplyDeleteDid I miss Lovey's anniversary? Is it today? Or was it yesterday?
...Happy Anniversary, 20yrs together, Kudos...
LynnD
ReplyDeleteNo cable? Do you get many channels using a Antenna? I know around my town, if you use a Antenna, you only get like 5 channels.
bloody hell I need a drink! Been the day from hell. Bitchy people at work, found out some really bad news about a friend and the damn security company just called to say the alarm went off in our office. Well, duh, go check it out and then call me at home to tell me what is up. What the heck am I supposed to do from here, race over there and do your job???? NOT. I bit my tongue too, and hurts like a bitch.
ReplyDeleteOk, done complaining. I just needed to vent for a moment.
Happy Anniversary LOVEY- Baking a special batch of brownies for you (I'll just take one or two before I hand the pan over if you don't mind)
LOL at Lynn- once she gets that cable she is going to have 200 channels to watch and we will never hear from her!
Yeah on the computer Carol. Nice that you have your nephew to help get it all up and running. Good boy.
Vig Okay, I unplugged 5 things around the house. I just thought of a second thing I can do. I can pay better attention to when the clothes are done in the dryer and get them out and folded. I tend to forget about it and then have to turn it on again on "dewrinkle". I really need to stop that.
ReplyDeleteZona I took a package to the post office today and thought of you. :)
Goldie
ReplyDeleteVent anytime you want!
I am the queen of vent :O)

ReplyDeleteVIG - Great blog!! HAPPY EARTH DAY!! because it makes the fish in
the river sick.
5. continue to use my clothesline
outside
6. Add some plants to my classroom
3 singers into it- watch Idol tonight. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteMe too Zona, me too!
Hi Everyone! I wish I could have posted yesterday (as I am the QUEEN of "needing a little push")! I do think I work well under pressure (or so I tell myself)!
ReplyDeleteI did get my paper done and started my LAST class today! Five more weeks and ONE MORE 8 page paper to go!!! WOOHOO!!!
Now for today's blog:
ReplyDeleteGreat topic VIG! I do recycle as much as I can. I am going to buy those cloth bags for going to the store. (Do you think they would allow you to use them in clothing stores as well?)
I do think recycling the bags (from Walmart, Kroger, etc.) is better than having them end up in the environment where animals tend to get tangled in them or ingest them. Perhaps if enough of us decide to carry our own bags, they won't have a need to make them at all anymore!
I can't help if the dealerships have the lights on to detract vandals or thefts? Perhaps if it was dark in the lots, people may be stealing hub-caps, hood ornaments or even try to steel a car? I do agree that light pollution is horrible though. Maybe the dealerships should put motion lights in their lots instead?
OK...see how I got off the subject?!
1. I will use those cloth bags at the store
2. I will try to limit the number of unnecessary trips in my car (meaning, trying to set a routine for errands and groceries, etc.).
3. Turn my heat down in the winter and my air up on a higher temperature in the summer.
Katie and I got Earth Day shirts. Mine said, "The Hippies Were Right!" (That's for you Whabbear)! Katie's says, "Save a tree, eliminate homework!" (That one is for you iteach)!
I do plan on planting a tree or two in my yard! I love trees.
PEACE!
Crap I had a long post and it went to the blog nether world!!! I got foaded!
ReplyDeleteCarol: We get 10 channels and I am happy with that. There is always something to watch.

ReplyDeleteDinner?? well, Mr. MEK told me that he bought NY Strip Steaks - he grilled them and when I sat down to eat - I have NO idea what kind of steaks he bought - but they were NOT NY Strips!! SO, some kind of steak is for dinner - they weren't too bad, but more importantly - he did NOT burn mine like he normally does!! AND, I didn't have to cook!!
IT's too f'ing hot to crank up the oven!!!!!
Lynn D - I don't care how many channels we have - there usually isn't anything on any of them!!
Goldie - I hope everything is okay at the office!!

Just in case you want to here David Cook, rickey.org does have it on his website already!
ReplyDeletecpgem - are you still NOT getting "new messages" or "new comments" on myspace
ReplyDeletecuz I'm not either!!
Mek
ReplyDeleteNope still not getting the alert that I have new msgs or comments.
me either!! oh well..
ReplyDeleteHi All Earth-Saving Owls! VIG~~So very glad you made this the TOTD. I actually stayed of the computer 'til 5pm today. Then got chased indoors by a sudden major downpour. Beautiful sun and sprinkles now.
ReplyDeleteCarol~~Isn't it funny how we have a 'theme' to our post-typo's? My own ( which I always catch but too late - - and blame on half-heimers short-term memory issues)~~~I use a lot of parenthetical expressions, and by the time I get to the end I forget to close the parenthesis...(ya know what I mean? ..... :o) (That was on purpose!)
MEK/Carol~~On AOL, I'm getting 'New Comment' alerts but not 'New Message' alerts. MS is really 'PMS' lately!
Jennifer~~Good to 'see' you and Congrats on being one paper away from completion. Re: your recyclable bag question~~ I take/use my big Costco bags everywhere, no problem.
My 3 New promises, next post.
Hey, Bono.... are you going to help me with the "cause" tonight!!??
ReplyDeleteMy 3 new Love Your MotherEarth 'promises':
ReplyDelete1) Tomorrow, I'm buying three new metal water bottles; one for the car, two for at home. No more reusing the chemical-leeching plastic bottles.
2) Reduce use of chemical-based household cleaners and use only Paraben-free cosmetics.
3) Reduce my 'Food Miles' by buying more locally grown and produced products when possible.
If anyone's unfamiliar with the importance of reducing Food Miles, here's just an excerpt from the VERY informative article linked below:
Food Miles, Resources and the Environment:
"Food miles" refer to the distance a food item travels from the farm to your home. The food miles for items you buy in the grocery store tend to be 27 times higher than the food miles for goods bought from local sources.
In the U.S., the average grocery store’s produce travels nearly 1,500 miles between the farm where it was grown and your refrigerator. About 40% of our fruit is produced overseas and, even though broccoli is likely grown within 20 miles of the average American’s house, the broccoli we buy at the supermarket travels an average 1,800 miles to get there. Notably, 9% of our red meat comes from foreign countries, including locations as far away as Australia and New Zealand.
So how does our food travel from farm field to grocery store? It’s trucked across the country, hauled in freighter ships over oceans, and flown around the world.
A tremendous amount of fossil fuel is used to transport foods such long distances. Combustion of these fuels releases carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and other pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to global climate change, acid rain, smog and air pollution. Even the refrigeration required to keep your fruits, vegetables, dairy products and meats from spoiling burns up energy.

LMAO@me being busted as "owens" from the first line!
Awww thanks Goldie, Carol and everyone for the kind comments!!
WOW@David Cook on IDOL(spoilers were sent an hour ago, FYI)
He may surpass my boy David A and WIN!
Goodnite y'all!
Idol is coming on - be back in an hour!! maybe - cuz then I will have to dial NON-STOP for two hours!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL
MEK, you amaze me!
ReplyDeleteYeah Joey I remember someone made that comment a while back, but every time that pic shows up I have to look twice!
ReplyDeleteA boob with a beak! And beady eyes!!
We'll see, MEK. I have a friend over right now, but sounds like I'll be back on the stationary bike tonight, punching auto-dial! The only way I can rationalize the 'wasted' time is if I'm exercising (which I would NOT otherwise be doing).
ReplyDeleteI haven't checked for any spoilers yet, but I'd sure be a happy girl if our David does my fave 'Music of the Night'.
Did you see Kristy Lee on Ellen yesterday? I STILL want to hear her sing 'Blue'. I bet it'd give ya chills!
p.s. Joey~~ I've always seen the backlit boob whenever I see your avatar when scrolling :o)
Add me to the list of not getting new messages or alerts from MS
ReplyDeletecould explain why I don't check as often as I should!
I am going to race now....

OMG! Just read Joey's spoiler...can't wait! I have the Michael Crawford/Barbra Streisand version on my Playlist and LUV it. Can't really picture David doing ALW, but it'll be fun.
ReplyDeleteTom on Myspace must have heard us talking about "the message alerts" - he just posted an Alert that they alerts have been turned off for now!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL
I had not made the David Archuleta/StarSearch connection until I saw an AOL Entertainment News clip yesterday about what a DREADFUL stage-dad. It included the YouTube video of him on StarSearch years ago. The minute I watched, I remember how it totally creeped me out at the time. Here it is:
