i am starting to get really pissed
about the high price of gas, it really
has many people at a standstill, and they are
just not doing things that they normally
would!
all weekend long as i drove around
doing errands, there was no traffic
to be had, some roads i travel by mid
afternoon on weekends are bumper
to bumper, i had prepared myself for
this thinking how bad it would be so
i started my days early
well i really could have slept in late
cause there was no one around!
it really has come to being unaffordable
the cost to fill up my tank is $55.00
when the heck did that happen!
my cousin has a suv, $125.00 to fill
her tank up! What!
how in the world are we suppose to
be able to afford this, our salaries have
not gone up, and yet everything else goes up
the poor, can't put gas in their car at all
the middle class, will put gas in their car
and struggle with the payment
the rich, don't really care how much gas is
and heck, why should they!
every time you get a estimate on something
such as landscaper's, garbage removal, etc
they also tell you they have to add on extra
for gas, and if you want the service you have
to pay! So you do it!
i am not good at this, i really don't know
the solution or for that matter have any
answers!
i did some searching and this is what i found:
"Why are gas prices so high"
1.) Increase in demand in developing countries, primarily China and India.
2.) Lack of refinement capability.
3.) Some recent natural disasters - Katrina, etc.
4.) Oil speculators.
5.) OPEC price manipulation.
6.) Dollar rates vs foreign currency
7.) Political instability in the middle east.
8.) Normal inflation
so are these really the answers?
perhaps, just not so sure~~

First!!!!
ReplyDeleteWohoo I did swoop in and get first!
ReplyDeleteI will comment on the blog a little later as I have to run Mr. Lynn D to his ride share!
He started this when gas hit $2.50 a gallon. Writing on the wall and all that.
congrats on 1st Lynn!!
ReplyDeleteI have no answers either, just opinions. None of which seem very lady like at this time of the day!
Happy Hump Day Hooters!!
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteUgh, this is a subject that really upsets me.
We are not going anywhere this summer due to the cost of gas. We won't be going anytime soon, either.
We like to drive to LA or Phoenix, and it will just be too expensive. So we will be staying close to home, as many people are doing.
The gas station down the street, where I fill up, was $3.99 for regular unleaded. I fully expect it to be over $4 today when I drive past.
Congrats Lynn! And hi to Goldie. I will check back after work. Have a good day!
congrats on first lynndeeee!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Carol! I have no answers but I do know that I will not be taking the vacation I had planned on. I refused to put such a large chunk of my vacation dollars into the tank just to get there.
I heard that truck drivers in England staged a strike due to the high cost of fuel and it had a major impact. I wish we would do such a thing here. All of us, not just truck drivers, but I doubt that will ever happen.
Ok I am back!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Goldie!
Ok here goes I am going to comment on this and it may not be popular.
Does anyone remember the 70's?? Hmmm Well I was a child of the 70's and I seem to remember a gas crisis then too.
People would line up at the pumps you could only pump on every other 3rd Tuesday with an odd number in the day, yes this is sarcasm. But you get my point.
Then all of sudden crisis averted and things went back to normal well normal at a higher price and all seemed good again.
We still had people railing about gas consumption and green house gases, pollution, higher prices but they were just those granola nuts and don't pay attention to them.
I watched as time went by and still this was in the back of my mind. Our elected officials did not think it was important enough to deal with.
Then lo and behold I watched the advent of the SUV and the mega trucks big behemoths gas guzzlers come in to being and I remember thinking at that time does anyone remember the 70's??? People lined up like pigs to a trough to buy these babies and I kept wondering how can they afford the gas for them even then. But being typical Americans we were happy to look at today and worry about tomorrow later. Our politicians will never let the 70's happen again! Right?
Ok excuse me but I am laughing hyterically at this point, call me cynical but how do many of those politicians make their money??? Hmmmm
Again I watched as the biggest gas guzzler of all was brought on to the market. It was shock and awe for me you know the...do you hear a choir and harp music??? The Hummer! OMG I was appalled and asked once again does anyone remember the 70's??? Who can afford the gas for those???
I watched as gas prices kept nudging up and we ( I include myself in this) kept thinking well it can't go any higher. Some of us would rail and ask why is it going higher?? Then there would be a press release that a refinery was on fire and it had slowed production yatta yatta yatta!
Well I always found it interesting that the refineries caught on fire every year about this time and I kept looking for pictures or information as to where this refinery was that was flaming away. Still a mystery....
I also kept reading that our elected officials were still pumping oil but were putting it in reserves for a rainy day. Ok I could accept that but recently those elected officials are trying to say it is not a rainy day so keep filling the back up piggy bank. Oh some are making noise that this is the rainy day but not enough yet. More noise is being made about drilling protected areas like this is the answer. Hmmmm
So we continue to whine and moan and carry on when Europe has had much higher gas prices than us for a very long time (again the writing on the wall) and many of us said well that is just Europe.
There were many that also predicted that if you keep letting the gas go higher and higher there will be a recession because it will affect the cost of everything, but hey we will worry about that tomorrow!
Well folks I think tomorrow is here and I think yep this situation needs fixing. Well how do we fix it you ask? We are just the little guy getting screwed, low man on the totem and all that.
My answer, think very carefully before you vote this year! Read look at their track record and how they have grown their personal wealth. We can affect change but we need to do it today not tomorrow.
But I could be wrong about all of this and it could just be that the Saudi's baby just needed a new pair of shoes.
Ok over and out sorry about the sarcasm this early in the morning but it is either this or overwhelming anger and I already have enough of that.
Good Morning Lynn -First again.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Goldie, East Bay J and Scirish. Didn't the 5 of us meet here just a few days ago? Off to read the blog.
TOP TEN!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting blog Carol and a very passionate response and excellent response Lynn. I too have opinions but no answers. Our gas is sold by the litre but when translated to gallons we hit a new high this week of $7.00 a gallon and it is hurting everyone. From groceries to services all the prices are up. My children and nieces and nephews are finding it very difficult because their salaries have not gone up but their jobs require a lot of driving. This summer will be particularly hard because gas prices jumped so much since last year. The province of Alberta is very rich in oil so it isn't as if we have to buy all our oil from other countries but they have to sell it at the World prices. I just don't get it
ReplyDeleteHappy WEdnesday!!
ReplyDeleteGOod Morning...
Lynn D - congrats on first.
Good Morning, Lynn, Goldie, EBJ, Scirish, Tinka and all others that land today...
cpgem - I don't know what to tell you --- fortunately, I live were the gas is the cheapest in the nation (sorry) - but it's still not cheap ... we actually found it for $3.55 the other day - Diamond Shamrock is always the cheapest..
I have ALWAYS organized my errands into what I call "the loop" - I route it out and NEVER back track.
I am going to try to get some stuff done around the house today - so won't be around!! I'll be back later..
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
:-)
YEAH - that was TEN!!!!!
ReplyDelete10 Good Morning Mek. Driving anywhere today?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning MEK and Tinka!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to vent to you all this early am but the topic do send me around the bend.
I am off here to to go to the foodbank where I know we will have more people lined up. Our numbers climb as the gas prices go up! Sadly we are the canaries in the mine. These people have to make a choice food or gas to get to work.
EBJ: I have to stop and get gas today. I fill up about every week and half. I try to suck every mile I can from my tank! Gas here yesterday was at $4.09 makes me cringe.
The news keeps telling us the west has the highest gas prices in the nation but I never hear why?
Hope everyone has an excellent day!
Mek - We were typing at the same time and you got 10. I don't drive much. I bought my brand new 1992 Toyota sports wagon on New Year's Eve 1991 and I have less than 50,000 miles on it. So I am not buying much gas. Even at that I no longer take the long scenic route home from my Mom's lodge or go on Sunday drives just for the fun of it. That used to be our pastime, going for drives out in the country and up island. We just don't do that any more.
ReplyDeleteZona - I thought you were heading over to the blog so I came to meet you. Did you get lost along the way? I just noticed the QOTD and laughed out loud. I must have been on crack yesterday. I don't remember saying that.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning All! I actually went to sleep at ONE this morning!! I wonder how that happened? ;)
ReplyDeleteCPGEM: Mr Z works 40 miles from home, so we really feel the pinch. There are no buses or light rail to get him there, and most of the people he works with live near work. On Thursdays there are Supervisor meetings in the morning that he MUST attend. His shift doesn't start until 4pm. Because of the cost of gas..he stays at work after the meetings. He ends up working a 17 hour day on Thursdays. It sucks.
No vacations for us this year either. You have to have a/c in your car in AZ and that really affects the gas mileage situation. I don't see a solution either.
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, you have really hit one of my sensitive spots. What's funny is that I had already posted my status banner BEFORE I read the nest blog.
Congrats Lynn on first and I really understand what you're saying about the elected officials.
Gas this morning at my regular station jumped .09 from yesterday's sign. WTH? I realize the owner is paying a higher price per gallon and has to pass the increase on to us, just to stay in business.
I did something that I guess i shouldn't have...but I was very nice about it. I paid at the pump and then went inside and asked if they had received a gasoline delivery since yesterday afternoon. No they had not. All I could say was..."Just wondering", and left. This is an independently owned station, and not owned by Chevron. So totally so confusing.
I do what so many are doing about making my errands all in one trip, and not back-tracking.
I do remember in the 70's when we were fishing in Florida one summer and the National Guard was at the service stations during delivery times. My son, around 6 years old at the time, though it was 'neat' to see men with guns when we waited in line to fill-up.
Just needed to vent a little after being raped for gasoline earlier this morning.
I'm better now....so good morning to each of you.
Where is everyone this morning? I left for a half hour to answer messages and came back to find the nest empty. My poor little owl is getting an inferiority complex. He thinks no-one likes him. Poor dear.
ReplyDeleteZona and Ronnie - Ignore my last post. We were typing at the same time. I am going back to see what you wrote.
ReplyDelete20
ReplyDeleteTink,
ReplyDelete$7.00 a gallon? For heavens sake.
I also remember going on Sunday afternoon rides out in the country, and then getting an ice cream before we got home. I guess those days will all be over for the young families of today. It's so sad for our future generations not to be able to enjoy so many of the things we all did.
Zona - I didn't realize Mr. Z had to drive so much for his job. That would make your living expenses so much higher than last year.
ReplyDeleteMy niece is a traveling nurse. She gets a travel expense but in no way does it cover $7.00 a gallon. It's ridiculous.
Ronnie - I don't blame you for venting after getting "raped for gasoline early this morning".
VIG - You travel a lot for your teaching job. It must have an effect on your salary. Besides the cost of gas there is wear and tear on your car.
Ronnie - Our gas prices have doubled in the last few years. They are talking about gas hitting $10.00 a gallon by mid summer. A lot of ours is tax but I don't understand what the tax money is spent on. We have free health care but our personal taxes and sales tax are also very high.
ReplyDelete24
ReplyDelete25
ReplyDeleteZona - I am off to eat some breakfast. I will catch up with you later.
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that if we want changes made, it's up to each one of us to do something about it at election time here in the states.
ReplyDeleteAlso, let us not forget about.....supply and demand!!!
I guess I'm through ranting now. Well at least until I have to buy gasoline again.
Ronnie - You have the same childhood memories as I have. The Sunday drive with the family, stopping for an ice cream and eating it while watching the waves roll in is one of my favourite memories.
ReplyDelete29
ReplyDelete30
ReplyDeleteLYNND: Congrat on FIRST!! I once read that gas prices were going to go so high, that when they finally came down to $2.99 we would be happy to pay that price.
ReplyDeleteGOLDIE: Hi sweet lady!!
EBJ: We were actually going to go to CA last week, but the high price of gas kept us home.
TINKA: $7 a gallon?? We'd have to take a loan out on the house for that!! You must have been on crack?? ROFL!! I have to go check out that QOTD!! I just LOVE you!!!
MEK: We organize our shopping trips the same way, it's necessary anymore. SO....how's Mars today?? ;)
HI RONNIE!! I remember when there was open land to drive to on Sundays, maybe this is part of our problem here.
I also heard this little tidbit from my police officer cousin...there are people syphoning the gas from gas tanks..but if you put a locking gas cap on your tank, they use a screwdriver to puncture the tank. Isn't this a pretty picture.
WOW!! I got FOADED 3 times..thank goodness I copied and pasted!
ReplyDeleteTINKA: I remember you writing the QOTD!! Toenail has been disposed of! LOL
ReplyDeleteGood morning Zona~
ReplyDeleteI remember when we were having a huge problem with people stealing gas out of people's tanks, and everyone buying locks. That was when the National Guard was guarding the stations.
Well, instead of us just standing around wringing or hands, all Americans need to be sure and vote in November, after doing our homework on each canidate. Honestly, I really think that is the only solution. **IMHO**
I promise, nothing else from me about this, but everytime someone else makes a post, I crawl back up on my soapbox.
BBL....maybe.
Candidate!!!
ReplyDeleteI think polishing the furniture might be a more suitable project for me today. At least I can SEE the results, and it smells good too. lol
Bye...and as MEK always says:
I hope everyone has an EXCELLENT day.
Zona - You inspired that QOTD.
ReplyDeleteI wondered where you disappeared and now I see you were foaded.
Not only do people try and steal gas here there has also been a rash of "gas and dash". They fill up and take off without paying. Most stations are demanding that you pay first before you get your gas now. It's very serious.
Little David is on Regis this morning. I want to see how he handles the interview part. I know he sings well but talking isn't his strong point.
Good day owlettes.. it is afternoon here...
ReplyDeleteso good morning to all west!!!
LynnD... congrats on 1st!!!!
Goldie .. EBJ...Scirish..
Tinka...MEK... Zona...Ronnie...
I woke up this mornign and my back is a little better.... glad I am off today... getto nurse it for another day!!!
From yesterday.... Zona...you do have a way with words... I laughed ... but only after i found out you were O.K...
I am so clumsy.. I could write a book of those kind of stories!!!
now to the topic of the day!!!!
I drive delivery for a living... so this is really affecting me.... as it is affecting everyone... so tips are less than they use to be.. it hurts all over...
so my take on this... is that Carol your reason #1... we can thank Mr.Clinton for signing free trade ... THAT is what started all of this.... and I hope everyone really sees that ....
I hope everyone has a great day.. I am off to nurse my back...
Good Morning Owls!
ReplyDeleteUgh, GAS! I drive past the gas station every morning and watch the sign change by at least 2 cents a day. Today it was $4.11.
We have made the necessary changes for our family, but I really worry about those who are not as fortunate... and I wonder at what point we will join them.
My husband works for a major software company here and his company provides free bus service for the employees, with an express route to work and wireless internet on the bus while riding in. He also likes to take his bike to work and ride around, but not everyone has this option.
I am shopping at a different grocery store now because whenever I spend $50 or more (and who doesn't these days?) I get a 10 cent per gallon discout on gasoline. I rarely drive out of our small town and I have decided not to send my kids to a bunch of camps this summer, so I don't have to drive back and forth so much.
It makes me sad to see how low our way of life has become in the past few years. I just try to remind myself that we are still way better than a large percentage of the people on this planet.
Trying to make lemonade out of a huge pile of sour lemons!
Ibebold - I hope your back will be better soon. You have one of those jobs that is really affected by any increase in gas prices. My thoughts are with you and anyone else in that situation.
ReplyDeleteLittle David did an excellent job on Regis and Kelly. He sang "Angels" and spoke well I thought. I would like to adopt him. He is so sweet.
40
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Glynis - You seem to have some answers to the gas problems. You are very inventive. It is such a shame that it is necessary but sadly it is.
ReplyDeleteWhabbear - Thinking of you.
Time to get some work done. Have a good day everyone.
HI IBB..sure hope your back gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteHI GLYNIS! Can I have some lemonade?? ;)
TINKA: Does this mean I would have a new brother??
****UPDATE FROM DENVER****
DIANNE would like to say HI to everyone and wishes she could get back to the nest and to Myspace. She is still pretty weak, and a bit frustrated that she isn't healing faster. She sends HUGS and good thoughts to everyone that needs them.
****END OF UPDATE****
Zona - Yes I guess that would mean you would have a new brother. Would that cause sibling rivalry? Think of the sing songs we could have around the piano.
ReplyDeleteDianne - Please continue to get stronger. We really miss you on the blog and myspace. I love you and want you to get completely well and fast.
There is a fresh pitcher of lemonade in the fridge...ride your bike over and come join me for a glass! We can sit on the front porch and visit.
ReplyDeleteTink~ Inventive? I never thought of myself that way. Thanks. I just figure that we all do what we gotta do, right?
The sun finally burned thru the clouds. Going to plant my herbs that I finally bought yesterday.
Hi again. I am leaving in 2 weeks for a trip that takes 8 hours by car. One way. The thought of spending more of my vacation money for gas then I had intended is a bummer. I guess I will order less expensive things from the menu when dining out to make it up.
ReplyDeleteA big saver of gas is to drive slower. Even the national trucking firm of Schneider (the orange trucks) has mandated that there trucks do not go faster than 60mph. We have already discussed it and my husband said he intends to drive slower, it will just take us a little longer to get there. Gotta do what you gotta do.
Hope everyone is healing, and feeling better. Come back to the nest little owlettes!!
Good morning everyone !
ReplyDeleteI need to file a complaint. That Tina/Eunice person kept me up all night. It's all her fault.
Ugh, gas prices. I really need a moped. Do they still make those?
Now I better go hide from Bear.
Goldie - when I drove to TX in March - I told my mom that I was AMAZED at how little trouble those big rigs gave us on the way to and from - they are usually jockeying for position, box you in - you know all that stuff - BUT - they were NOT speeding, they all stayed in the right lane - and this was when gas was $3.19!!
ReplyDeleteSO - i wish you safe travels!!
now - I better get my ass off the couch and get busy!!
ReplyDeleteLOL
I forgot to buy mustard yesterday!!
ReplyDelete50
ReplyDeleteMek - You got 50. I got 25. Does that make me half as good as you or twice as good? Just wondering!!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom area 51
Tina - I just checked and you were up all night. I am going to send someone to your house to make sure you get a proper night's sleep. That isn't healthy for a young girl like you.
Maureen - I am so sad things didn't go the way we prayed for. Maybe something even better is just around the corner. We will keep the prayers going just in case.
(((((Hugs)))))))
Zona - I guess Mars is fine today -they haven't held any news conference to interupt my regularly scheduled programing YET!! but I'm sure they will soon!!
ReplyDeleteWhabby - I had to laugh when I heard the Space Station's toilet is broken - but - don't worry - it will only take the space shuttle two weeks to get there to fix it - YIKES!!!
AND - NO - it really isn't funny!!
Dianne - get better soon!! You'll have a visitor before you know it!!! :-)
and - "DISCLAIMER"
I meant NO disrespect to any truckers out there - i just was stating how WELL THEY were all behaving on the road!!
Tinka - that could be the old saying..
ReplyDeleteSix of one or half a dozen of the other!!
:-)
Good morning/afternoon Owls. I was MIA yesterday, but I did read the blog and Zona, you are too funny. You need to consider publishing some of your writing and not just here in the nest.
ReplyDeleteCarol: This 'gas thing' is a subject close to all of our hearts. I think it boils down to GREED plain and simple. And even if we are careful with our vote, there is still no guarantee whoever gets in will be able to help in this area. Having worked in the Governor's Office for 16 years, I have seen politicians with the the best intentions get jaded and fall into the same traps as the veteran politicians. They have to make promises to other politicians in order to get their bills passed, and eventually something gets compromised. It is such a dirty business.
Zona: I heard the same thing about the gas tanks this morning. So, I guess I'll just let them steal the gas so I won't have to replace my gas tank.
Ronnie: Your point is exactly what I have been raving about for a while now. My DIL and I were getting gas on Saturday and we watched the price go up by 9 cents while we were pumping it into her car. Thank goodness we started before that happened. But I could never understand how they could be allowed to raise the price on gas that has already been delivered at the lower price.
IBB: I'm sorry your back is hurting and I hope it heals soon for you...but what exactly is a 'getto nurse'?
EBJ: Gas here is now $4.24
Tinka: OMGosh $7.00 a gal. Too painful to even think about.
MEK: I did see AMC on TiVo after I got home last night. I agree it was one of the best episodes.
Waving a wing at Goldie, Scirish,Glynis, and Want and also to all who land after me.
I forgot...LynnD congrats on #1. And to comment on your post, our Governator drives a Hummer. Good example for all of us, huh?
ReplyDeleteSacbarb...I couldn't figure what you were talking about... but i just looked back at my post...and I didn't space between my GET and TO... so i GET TO nurse my back!!!!
ReplyDeletesorry...
Hi Owls!! Congrats on first lynn d!! Just have to say the original draft of NAFTA came from Bush senior. Free trade agreements in themselves are not necessarily bad but unfair trade agreements, like favored nations agreements, are a disaster. The facts are the Bush administration for the last 7 yrs did not enforce 1 of the trade rules that do exist, in NAFTA or any other trade agreement with any other foreign country. Bush has maintained strictly a pro big business agenda at the expense of the US and middle America. His continual lack of enforcing labor standards and health and safety standards, that are required of all American countries, have led to the decline of the American middle class.
ReplyDeleteA country like Brazil is independent of oil, if they could do it, why couldn't we. We have had republican administrations for the last 20 out of 28 yrs., who have been too friendly to the oil industry and big business.
If Bush had done something to stabilize the American dollar, oil would cost significantly less even with the growing demand for oil in third world countries.
I do respect everyone's opinion and just felt the need to write mine.
Lynn D Congrats on first today! I enjoyed your post. You can vent anytime you want.
ReplyDeleteCarol The gas prices have gotten ridiculous. Excellent blog today.
I'm fortunate that I drive a Prius and get 48 mi/gal. I'm also mostly retired, and the few days a month that I go to work only entails a few minutes of driving. I got gas the other day at $4.24/gal. I get gas when I'm down to 1/4 tank. A year or so ago, a fill up cost $25 now it is $30 to $31. Quite a jump in so short a time.
I meant lack of labor standards that are required by all American COMPANIES not countries. Sorry
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon LynnD, goldie, eastbayj, scirish, tink, mek, zona, ronnie, ibb, glyn, cacbarb, gm and justlin,,,whew.
ReplyDeleteoops that's sacbarb
ReplyDeletegood afternoon Want- glad you got a little nappy poo in and could join us during the "non-vampire" hours.
ReplyDeleteI for one am happy to read everyone's opinions. If I agree or not, I am thrilled to come to a place where we respect each other enough to be comfortable to share.
I have to say- this is the longest hump day i have had in awhile ....and I am not enjoying it. Apparently hump day does not hold the same joy as it once did :) maybe I should talk to my physician...LOL
Hey gang back from work!
ReplyDeleteI am blinking here as I just read Tinka called herself a a a a crack ho! LMAO
IBB has getto back! WTH??
And MEK ran out of Custard!
ROFLMAO!
Well I am going to get some things done here so I can watch AMC with the rest of you today should be as good as yesterday! Finally some decent story lines.
Then I have to run out and get the rest of my costume ready. Tweedle Dum and I have had some creative differences and I caved and now have to go buy a new pair of pants! God twins are a pain in the butt!
Mo: My heart hurts for you! I don't even have the words to console you as I know what a rough year this has been. I will keep you in my prayers and you know you always have my shoulder if you need it! (((Hugs)))
Dianne: I am thinking about you also. I have an Uncle that has been so sick with pnumonia and he says it is taking him forever to heal also. We can't wait until you are back my friend!
Well I am thinking about it has anyone heard from Donna Jean??? If you are reading are you and Laurie OK??? You are weighing on my mind.
Ok I better get my butt in gear!
Glynis grabbing some lemonade as I fly through!
Tinka..You are so right..gas is ridiculously high here. I think you should come over to my part of Victoria though and buy your gas...because I just calculated the gas at the Shell Station down the street and it works out to about $5.20 a gallon!
ReplyDeleteAlot of that is taxes that have been added on to each litre we buy. We are taxed up the ying yang!
Gas and dash had become a big problem in British Columbia...and it is now a law (called Grant's Law) that you have to pay first before you can get gas at all gas stations In B.C. It was because of a young guy working at a gas station late at night, who tried to stop someone from dashing and ended up being killed as he was dragged for many miles by the car he was trying to stop. It was horrible!
I do drive a lot for work, but my mileage and wear and tear are covered. I do worry though about the environmental impacts of the amount someone like me drives and eventually hope to have a job that I can walk or take the bus or ride my bike to.
Great topic today!!!!
A lunch-hour hello to all! Just stopping in long enough to:
ReplyDelete*wrap a wing around Mo, IBB, Jennifer,ITeach, Dianne and Lovey, wherever you are.
*agree wholeheartedly with Goldie's last post on comfort in sharing diverse opinions.
*shout "AMEN!!" to GRANDMA MOSES.
and after a morning of watching CNN between errands....GLYNIS, Please, I need LOTS more lemonade today!
IBB: I really thought you meant 'getto' You don't have to apologize. I wasn't making fun (for once). Lord knows, I make my share of typos, but I usually blame it on my keyboard. It is supposed to know what I mean.
ReplyDeletecrap....my posts keep getting FOAD!
ReplyDeleteLet's try again....
I have not finished reading the blog, but I WISH we only had to pay $125 to fill our truck. Last week we paid $150. And I'm sure the price has gone up since then.
**WARNING....cussing is about totake place***
IT'S FUCKING PISSING US OFF!!!!!!!
The thing about this is that there is no reason for gas to be this high. It's all about greed.
I second the APB for Donna Jean.
ReplyDeleteDianne I am praying for a speedy recovery for you.
Waving a wing at J/L, VIG, Grandma Moses, and Bon'O.
I am off to get my nails done and run more errands. If gas gets any higher, I may actually have to 'run' errands instead of drive. BBL
And I Thank You Grandma Mo for your opinion.
ReplyDeleteEveryone can have an opinion here!
TINKA: I've had enough sibling rivalry to last a lifetime..so I would be the perfect older sister.
ReplyDeleteMEK: The visual about the Space Station is not a pretty one. Glad Mars is being good today!
SACBARB: Thank you. :)
We were going to put on a locking gas cap..better to lose the gas, I agree.
GOLDIE: I had the "vampire hours" bred into me!
WANT: I'd like to get one of those Segways...that would be cool.
VIG: Our car uses Flex/Fuel..I'm not sure what this means. My neighbor ran over the day we drove the new car home and said "Oh wow, you can use flex/fuel" I asked him how he could tell..he pointed to the big silver emblem on the back. I think this is what you call a "DUH" moment. ;)
HI BON'O! HI GRANDMA MOSES! HI BARB/WA!
Ooooh, that woul be fun Zona!
ReplyDeleteVIG: We are having a problem with people filling up and taking off without paying too.
ReplyDeleteWANT: I'd just have to learn to stay on it..;)
IBB - I had to laugh when I read getto nurse....but I totally knew what you meant!!!
ReplyDeleteZONA - A segway?!!? Good grief.....I could just see you doing summersaults down the road on that dang thing!!! :P SNORT!!!
As most of you know I work at a convenience store......gas actually went DOWN .02 today ($3.93/gallon for regular unleaded). I hear about this everyday.....my best line to customers is "don't hate the messanger"!!! I really don't understand the rhyme or reason for the price of gas. I drive a Ford Taurus....can't have more than a 13-14 gallon tank.....holy crap....cost me $52.50 to fill it 3 days ago. Holy crap batman.
I really do respect EVERYONE'S opinion on this subject. I just hope everyone takes time to research whatever candidate they are pulling for....and the most important thing is to VOTE!!! I have a feeling there will be a HUGE turnout this year.
Wait.....did I say holy crap enough?!!? LOL!! So sorry.....just my way of being tedious!!!
ReplyDeleteJODI: ROFLMAO!!! Splat..!! ;)
ReplyDeleteGrandma Moses
ReplyDeleteWell written. Every word of what you said is the truth. You do "us" all proud!
Yet there is more truth. The sad thing is very few people across our country bother to want to understand or try to make a stand.
We have plenty of oil platforms all in the Gulf Of Mexico. We have huge ones that stand 20 stories high such as the one on my Avator that is the best technology in the world. We could produce more of our own oil but the government never moves fast enough. We could get more oil drilling going in Alaska. China and another country now put dibs on drilling for oil off the Florida keys. WTH!! Our oil giants asked for this but things didn't go fast enough. It was governement fumbling.
For four years our government knew this was coming. They did nothing. It was written as a headline news article in National geographic June 2004.
The American automotive companies did nothing to make a better car that is more fuel efficient. Now they are in crisis! Now airlines are going belly up.American jobs are going to continue to go belly up. American automobile companies just twiddled their thumbs and didn't want to spend a dime to start new manufacturing designs. Prius had 55% of all sales this year because the Prius at $22,000 for their top of the line model gets 60mpg and has an 8 year warranty.
If anyone really wants to know the BS that "is" our American government then I highly suggest that you get a copy of the book Free Lunch and read it. Our politicians aren't helping the little guy. They are too busy flying their corporate jets into their fancy golf course built in Oregan at tax payers expense.Did anyone know that on a daily average there are 40 private jets that fly in and out of that golf course which are mainly our high ranking politicians!
We can partly blame our selves though. Europe has paid $8 a gallon for years. They drive fuel efficient cars. They also have bus and train systems. Americans need to get serious and quit playing. Life isn't all about Micky Mouse. Americans also need to want to conserve and stop being so wasteful. Every other country just shakes their heads at us. They have no sympathy. They think we're wreckless and selfish.
HOLY CRAP JODI- I just had a visual of Zona doing sommersaults down the roadway in her flip flops with a skirt on! MEDIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe bought our Prius new in 2005. It cost $35,000. Granted, everything is more expensive here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteWaving my wings, Lovely owls! All of you owls are so accepting of everyone's opinion. I also love hearing all opinions, even if they are different. Have a great evening owls!!
ReplyDeleteSpecial hellos to all of you!!
80- just because
ReplyDeleteWell Holy Crap! I just watched my stories and was highly entertained!
ReplyDeleteI too love reading everyones responses to the blog today.
Gmoses: Great Response!
SacBarb: I so agree about politicians being in office and forgetting who and what they are supposed to be representing and accomplishing.
Yes Dreama that is where I was coming from we put it off and put it off and eventually tomorrow does catch up.
I do want to say we had 3 new families sign up at the foodbank today. These people have nicer cars than I do. Granted I drive a junker. I am not judging them, what it tells me is that the middle class is really starting to feel the pinch. These are people who would normaally donate to the food bank and now are in line to be a client.
You guys this is why I am so angry. It scares me to no end and for the few we see how many are truly struggling and will wait until they are homeless before they show up on our doorstep?
How long before it really effects my family?
Yet all of the news seems to focus on political garbage that never addresses the real issues for real people.
Ok stepping down off of my soap box again. I am not trying to make anyone mad. I am just so frustrated.
I need a vacation but Holy Crap I don't want to pay for the gas to get there.
This is very interestig....if you haven't heard Mr. Pickens speak on energy lately.....this explains a lot....
ReplyDeletehttp://youtube.com/watch?v=jngHfYFs9L8
GOLDIE - Oh, my bloody hell!!! MEDIC!!!! I just about fell off my chair!!! :P
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI just spit out my drink!
Tinka on crack, oh boy what this blog does to people...
Tinka, way to funny :O)
I'm trying very hard to appreciate EVERYONE'S opinion, but getting really tired of having it crammed down my throat. It seems the longer the statement, some are under the impression it will change others views.
ReplyDeleteCarol works very hard to maintain this blog for all of us, and yes, even though it's a public forum, let's not turn this into a political rally. It will surely destroy what we all love and enjoy.
My long post way up there was not a political statement and I think this is not the place for such.
Come on people, don't just fly in here once in a blue moon and start things that could cause drama, and then sashay off to dinner and a movie like you've done nothing wrong. Further, please don't quote statistics you've copied from some periodical to drive home your point.
I know MOST of you and for the most part, are very kind and loving people....but please let's respect our Nest more than what is being demonstrated today.
I'm leaving smiles as I fly from the Nest for the afternoon, but no apologizes.
Just think about what you may be starting before you post.
It's nice to see you again Delores, and this is not directed at you.
Lynn d:
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first! (and second) :O)
Hi Carol~
ReplyDeleteSo very glad everyone can share there opinion, thats what it is all about!
ReplyDeleteWhether we agree or not, its ok!
Kudos, owls!
Delores:
ReplyDeleteI watched some of the video, hmmm...it was very straight forward!
Supply and Demand was his statement!
I think out of all the things I read yesterday, that video made the most sense!
Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteRonnie:

ReplyDelete99
ReplyDeleteShit 100?
ReplyDeletecpgem8:
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 100!
Great march
:O)
Hmmm Ronnie I am not sure what has gotten you so upset.
ReplyDeleteI have found that Carol has fostered our right to blog about what we feel and what is important to us.
I did not see where anyone was trying to force their agenda just stating how they feel and where they are coming from. Their opinions are as important as mine.
I like to read what each of you is feeling and where you are at as it gives me a feel of what is going on in the country. I respect every owls right to post what is on their mind as long as it is not bashing another owl or is racist or prejudiced.
If I offended you I am sorry. I guess I have gotten so comfortable being able to express myself here that I do so.
Last but not least Thank you Carol for mentoring me on how to write and how to go with the flow! You are a great person!
Ronnie I love you girl!
soooo.....Want is a whore!~!
ReplyDeleteTinka is on crack! (I thought that yesterday, but didn't want to upset you!)

ReplyDeleteHey - well, I'm back from the grocery store - AND - when I got home - discovered that Mr. MEK has actually purchased the mustard like I asked him - SO, now we have TWO bottles and we can never even use ONE before it expires!!
ReplyDeleteLOL
anyway - peeled my hard boiled eggs and ALL of them - yes, i repeat ALL of them were good for deviled eggs and i didn't even TELL them that some would be used for potato salad!! LOL
SO - potato salad is made and deviled eggs are made - I'm going to try IBB's oven fried chicken recipe tonight..
since I was sick over Memorial Day weekend - we didn't get to have "memorial day weekend food"!!
(((GROUP HUG)))
Tina:

ReplyDeletecpgem - you are welcome!!
Tina - can you see it?!!
I took a video of my dad and my cousin Timmy on my cell phone, when we went to the graduation. They both decided a dance was in order. So they danced. It is so funny, as Timmy is blind and my dad is 83!
ReplyDeleteI uploaded it to You Tube, and it came out shitty. I should have taken the video with my camera. :(
Mek:
ReplyDeleteThats like Peas, I don't like Peas however I like Pea soup!
And Apples, I like Apples but don't like Apple Pie!
Hmmm...
Oh I forgot!
ReplyDeleteWhen I took the video on my cell phone! I turned my cell phone sideways to get them both in the frame. When uploaded to You Tube the video is sideways, I can't flip it around!
So, lesson learned!
