Wednesday, Hump Day?

well it seems somewhere along the
line Wednesday became "hump day"

i wonder why:

maybe because we have to hump
over Wednesday to get to Thursday?
but then don' t we have to hump over
Friday to get to Saturday?

can it be just because its in the
middle of the work week?

or does it have something to do with
a camel having humps?

perhaps a "Mr. Hump" made Wednesday
famous in a far off land, and someone
named Wednesday's for him?

we could look at Wednesday's as going
up a hill (which would be the hump part)
and the descent would bring us
to the weekend?

is it that people hump on Wednesday's?
maybe Heidi Fleiss said it once and it
stuck?

did Clinton get caught with Monica
on a Wednesday? and then one of the
news stations ran with it?

did the hunchback of Notre Dame
ring the famous bell on Wednesday's?
he had a hump on his back, so is that
the origin?

i found this on the internet:

"Do you know what the best thing about Tuesdays are? Its the day before Hump Day!" "What's hump day?" "It's the hump of the week!!"

what is up with that, i am just has confused
as when i started this blog

so many people say it to me, and i read
it everywhere, it just sounds so, well,
not normal!

i can't find the origin of this saying
so i am just going to stick with what
i have known Wednesday's to be, which
is the middle day in a work week

Sooooooo!

Happy Wednesday :O)

  2. Morning Glories!

Carol LOL at the blog. I would think the term Hump Day had a whole different meaning when it was coined eons ago! I bet they would be horrified to find out what that slang means now.

    From area 51:

MEK: Just wanted to let you know that the gentleman that watched me load the car was very elderly. I was not in anyway offended that he did not help. Actually I would not have let him. I would have been afraid! LOL

Bon: Mr. Lynn D has been going crazy on our yard this year and is getting ready to put some tomato's in also. He planted two hydrangea's and a clematis for me this weekend. My mothers day present.

They keep saying the weather is going to turn here. We will see... earlier this week it was 34 degrees in the morning with frost on the ground today it is about 45 and wet.

I will check back in a bit! Waving at everyone!

  5. If you have had a great night in the sack could you call that humpalicious?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I wonder if Humpty Dumpty would be offended?

Hmmm maybe that is where the term busting your hump came from.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How come they have a term for women when they have a hump between their shoulder blades, dowagers hump, but not for men???

    ReplyDelete
  8. I once tripped over a hump and it was not pretty!!!

Good Morning Carol and East Bay J - I will be right back.

  16. Good Morning Owls!

I think of Hump Day as the top of a hill. We spend Monday and Tuesday struggling to climb it, by Wednesday we've made it to the top, and on Thursday and Friday we're running down the other side towards the weekend. :)

    Lynn: LOL! Congrats on 1-10.

Waving Hi to Tinka and EBJ!

Carol: I ordered the Jersey Boys book which arrived yesterday and is as well done as the musical. Lots of great photos plus more interesting info about the Four Seasons, the original Broadway cast, and the creative team behind the show.

There's also a map of New Jersey that shows where various stars grew up, and it looks like you're surrounded by famous childhood homes. Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi, Joe Pesci, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Queen Latifah, Jon Bon Jovi, Dionne Warwick, Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston, etc.

Wow, so much talent from such a small section of the state! Do they add something to the drinking water there? ;)

    Happy Hump Day everyone!

  17. Hi Tink: Yes It was good for me! LOL

Amicus: Good Morning! I keep forgetting. I loved your story from yesterday! Thank God for caring people!!

Carol: Yes I am feeling much better! Made it through the nite without waking up at 1:00 am to take more pain meds! The best part is that I am regular again!!! Wahoo!

I guess I am being very tedious this morning! LMAO

I have to run, have regular foodbank today! Everyone keep on Humpin this day will be over soon! ROFLMAO

  18. Good morning Hooters!

Lynn- you just cracked me up this morning. Congrats on 1st!

    Hi ebj, carol, tink, amicus.

I dont know what I am supposed to be humping (I'm sure Mr. Goldie would volunteer though) but I will not bust my hump doing it!

Have a great day everyone!!! Work beckons and I must answer, :(

  19. Good Morning Amicus - It seems many owls are busy, sleeping or calling in sick on Hump Day. I was going to google 'Hump Day' Carol until I saw you had already done that. It wasn't many years before I retired that I even heard Wednesdays being referred to that way. I wonder when the expression first came to Canada? My theory is that it refers to the camel's hump.
If one was having a difficult week, it was always a good feeling to get through Wednesdays. After retirement it doesn't matter what day it is unless you have an important date on the weekend. Then you count down the days.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well.....here is what wikipedia says....

An English language idiom for Wednesday is "hump day", a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting "over the hump."

Boring but I'm too tired to google and find what it says!

    I will be back later.
    Congrats on 1st lynn!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL Lynn! I just saw your little early morning march! Those are the best!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lynn - Your first dozen posts were hilarious. Those meds have made you a fantastic comedian. Put them together and we could have another great blog. I am glad you are feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good Morning Barbara - Since you looked it up, I thought I would try and find when the expression started. I couldn't find it - just the usual "getting over the hump of the week". What I did notice was the folk rhyme referring to on which day of the week you were born. Remember the one - Mondays child is full of grace. Tuesday child is fair of face? Well Wednesday's child was full of woe. Wednesday must not have been a popular day back then.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good morning to you too MEK- congrats on 1st!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good Morning Mek - You are a lady of few words this morning.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Goldie - I am sorry. I didn't see you hiding behind the other owls. Good Morning to you too. Out of curiosity what did Mek do first this morning? Did I miss something? LOL

  27. Good morning

    Interesting blog Carol...Hump Day.

My take is that we're half way through the week....just a downhill slide until the weekend. OR maybe it's a regularly scheduled night of romance...kind of like Saturday's are bath night. LOL

Great job Lynn on your early morning march 1-10...now that's humpin' it!

Waving a wing to Tink, Amicus, Goldie, Barbwa, and MEK.

I need to do a little humping, so I'll be back later.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Tink- she got the first 25 of the day!

  29. Happy WEdnesday!!

    Good Morning!!

Lynn D - congrats on first!! I missed the "elderly" part - so I totatly understand!!

Wow - Lynn - yes - where is everyone - you did a GREAT job busting your hump to keep the nest open this a.m.!! Congrats!! You crack me up!!

Cpgem - I have always just called Wednesday - Wednesday!! until Bono spotted a typo last week - now it's WEdnesday!!

EBJ - you will be getting our heat - we are having a "cold" spell!! only hitting the 80's!! with more chances of rain!!

Tinka, Good Morning - OH - I have never been at a loss for words - when I land in the nest - I usually just type the number that I will be and then go read the blog!! :-)

Amicus - we are almost at the top of the hill - going for the downward slide!! :-)

Lynn D - nothing could be tedious here - I LOVED all your comments and I am SO glad that you are feeling better!!

Barb in WA - Wednesday for you is like Friday - cuz you don't have to work Thursday - RIGHT!!! don't work too hard today!!

Goldie - that 25 was for you!!

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey Ronnie!!! Have fun humping today!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. Goldie - Thanks, I get it now. Maybe I still am a virgin when it comes to marching.

Good Morning Ronnie - Did you hear that I got magnetic jewelry clasps? Dianne sent them to me. I couldn't find them here. Weren't you the first one to suggest that I buy them instead of getting married?

I just went back to area 51 to read what happened after Zona sent me to bed.

Amicus - Thanks for your kind words about my almost losing Tango. You made me feel better. I am so nervous about doing something that will cause harm to my 'babies'. There are so many things they can get into.

ZonaBaby - Thank you also for telling me about Remy getting out of the gate. I can just imagine the state you were in when that happened. I know I was shaking for hours after Tango was home safe.

Back to Hump Day. Each article I read stressed the fact that it had nothing to do with sex. I wonder why they felt the need to write that? Just wondering!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mek - I knew you would have lots to say. I thought maybe you were just waking up and wanted us to know you were there.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good morning y'all! LMAO@Lynn being 1-10!! Congrats!

I always thought that's what it meant too Carol...middle day of the work week! Getting over that hump to get to the weekend! lol

I still feel exhausted!! Who knew a trip could drain you so much? lol

I think most of it was all of that walking I did in NY! Hopefully walked off a couple pounds lol

Riding the subway was fun too!

Hopefully that blog/videos will be up by the weekend! haha
    have a great HUMPDAY everyone!

  34. American Idol thoughts!!

I believe tonight is the end of the road for Shyesa - what I find AMAZING about her - she has been in the bottom two or three thru-out this whole process - but ended up in the Top Three!! I never thought she would be the last girl standing!!

So - we'll see the Two David's battle it out!!

DWTS - I didn't get to watch the end - cuz - as we know - NBC starts their shows at 2 or 3 minutes before the hour - and I HAD to watch SVU - but I did see the final results - I am hoping the Kristi and the Football player are the top two finishers - I will be okay with either one of them winning!!

Okay - Today Show has the wedding couples to be designing wedding dresses!! This ought to be interesting!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Tinka - Oh - you made me laugh this morning!! I snuck in and got that 25!! and - I did actually sleep in a little longer than usual this morning - kitties actually left me alone!!

Joey- glad you made it home safe and had a great time in NYC!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Amicus - I know I am 4 days out but this is your birthday month. Happy Birthday my friend and many more.

Joey - I am glad you are safely home. I enjoyed viewing your myspace.

Mek - I agree with everything you just said about American Idol. I will be at a computer meeting tonight so I will have to tape tonight's show.

    ReplyDelete
  37. VIG - So nice to hear from you. Have fun in Penticton and then please hurry home. Call me when you get in.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lynn: Thanks! Glad you're feeling better.

MEK: My hump day is actually Thursday, but I'll still join you on the fun slide. I'll just climb back up and do it again on Friday. ;)

Tinka: I'm glad my posts made you feel better, because I have no doubt you're a great mom! Thanks bunches for the birthday wishes!

Waving Hi to Goldie, Ronnie, BarbWA, Joey!

    My Idol thoughts...

David Cook deserves to win. He's the best vocalist and performer.

David Archuleta needs more time to mature. He lacks confidence as a performer. His delivery is always the same which, for me, makes him boring to watch.

The thought of Syesha on Broadway makes me cringe, and I'm getting really tired of Simon using Broadway as an insult. A lot of pop singers don't have the vocal training or talent to impress die-hard Broadway fans.
Syesha's high notes are painfully sharp, and her low notes are boringly flat. There's nothing unique about her voice, and it lacks the fluctuation in tone that adds beauty to powerful songs.
I'm just not at all impressed with her vocally, but she might make a great actress. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good Morning Amicus - I am glad to see you post. I thought everyone had disappeared this morning or that something had happened to the site. It was an hour between our two posts. Did I frighten everyone away I wondered. I agree with everything you just said concerning American Idol. David C. can sure sing. David A. needs a few more years and he will be great.

  40. Good Morning Owls. I am headed to Tacoma today to attend a meeting that I would rather not go to, but I am trying to keep an open mind about. The school wants my boys to get a speech device that will talk for them. The twins were born premature and have had major developmental delays, but they have made HUGE advances in the past few years. We changed schools when they started Kindergarten and suddenly we were being asked to put them into a study to see about this speech device because people in the new school could not understand them.

That was at the beginning of the school year, when nobody really knew them and hadn't learned their speech patterns yet. Since then, I have had a number of people tell me that they now understand the boys just fine. But the school still wants these damn devices. My only fear is that they will use these boxes to talk for them, instead of continuing to improve their speech thru therapy.

I do realize that there are times when they get very frustrated with not being understood though, so I am willing to go and listen. I just resent feeling bullied by a group of teachers who only spend about 2-1/2 hours a day with my boys. Heck, half the time when we don't understand them it's because they are talking about Pokemon or Bakugan or some other Japanese cartoon based card game. ARGH!!

So today, this is the hump I need to get over. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I will try to let you know how it all turns out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi again Amicus,

I so agree with you about AI. Had to laugh about Syesha making a good actress.

Tink, I don't think it was me who told you to get a magnetic jewely clasp instead of a husband. But wasn't that sweet of Dianne to remember that for you?

Dianne, Just keep feeling better and don't relapse.

Vig, we miss you. Stay safe during your travels.

    MEK, have you been behaving?

  42. Howdy OWLS!!

    Carol, LOL fun blog. Ty.
    Hump Day,
for me was always rushing to make sure everything was finished and ready for the upcoming weekend.

It's a day that was a struggle to get through and usually the longest day of the week.

Since hard times or tasks are usually referred to as, "getting over the hump" to me,it makes sense why Wednesdays are called "Hump Days".

LYNND~~ Congrats Morning Glory..LMAO loved your opening this a.m

Mek~~ Marissa went home from DWTS'. I'm happy with the final 3.
    Jason,Kristy and Christian.

    Good Luck to David Cook!!

    JOdi~~Sorry I missed u this am,I signed off just after postings.xox

  43. Glynis - My thoughts and prayers will definitely be with you today. My only advice would be to go with your motherly instincts and don't be talked into anything you do not feel is the right thing for your boys. You know them better than any of the so-called "experts" in their field. Good luck. Let us know how it went.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Glynis, I'm sending my thoughts and prayers to you. Keep doing the good mother thing.

Joey, Welcome home. Sounds like you had a great time in New York.

    ReplyDelete
  45. JustLin~~ I SOOOO agree with you on yesterdays Oprah comment.
I'd like to see it again, to count how many times suggestions were given.
I had "red flags"going off all over the place while watching his interview.

Your hubby had a COOL job:o)!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ronnie - I thought it was Dianne and that is why she sent it to me. Then I thought I remembered a message from you referring to that day. My apologies to Dianne. After she made such a sweet gesture I make such a social goof.

Dianne - I love my clasps. I have put them on all my necklaces. Now I am waiting for someone to ask me out on a date. Now that my birthday is over I may have to wait a while.

  52. What do you call a humping owl?

    A Howell.

    Hello, Howells!

Glynis: I don't like the sound of that either. If the boys need practice to develop their speaking skills, then turning it over to a machine is counterproductive. I hope you win on this one.

Tinkatia: I'd post more on the nest if you weren't so fierce. I'm a shrinking violet, dontcha know!

    Joey: Please! Stories!

    Congrats, Lynn D!

OK, back to Houston meeting hell (particularly hellish because I have no internet access in the meeting room. I hate that!)

I was just thinking about you and repeating your dog saving story. My animal rescue friends applaud you.
I found a new Avator. My owl is a hottie. I think I'll keep him not only for Hump day but 24/7.

Ronnie~~My lilac tree is finally at peak for picking. Shall I pluck you a bouquet? I can't bring them in the house, 'cause they make me sneeze.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Carol: Dreama should be BANNED from the nest. Her choice of owl is demeaning to men.

When, oh when, will women stop treating us like sex objects?

Oh... hold on... wait a minute. Gay men treat us like sex objects. That means I treat men like sex objects, too.

OK, maybe I need to reconsider my suggestion.

  69. Dianne~~ Hope you're feeling better today.

  70. Bon O - The plot thickens. So it was your message I remember getting. These senior moments are getting just too frequent for me. Maybe I need to change my meds. All I remember is we had fun discussing the fact that it was a poor reason to get married again - not being able to put on a necklace.

  76. LMAO sorry Bon, but... shouldn't we begin the celebration of this HUGE BIRTHDAY now?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Awww Lovey, thank you for the song.

The rain did go away for a while and then the sun came out and started the 'steam thing'. I just hate when that happens. I think I'm turning into Jennifer and wanting it to rain some more...which it's supposed to. lol

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a Lilac bush.... Oh Bon please take a pic n post it in your albums.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Dreama: Thank you!

Ronnie: Since I was a bit hard on Syesha, I'll pull a Paula now and mention how much I loved the gold gown Syesha wore for her first song. :) It was gorgeous and fit her like a glove. She looked beautiful.

Glynis: Sending a prayer for you and your boys today.

  80. Jodi and BonO - My lilac trees are just about ready to burst. I love bringing them into my home and having the scent permeate the entire house. I had a huge lilac tree that when in bloom covered one third of my 12 ft wide Living Room window. I took such pleasure in it. One stormy night 5 years ago it blew over and I cried. Now I have 2 or 3 smaller ones coming up in its place. I guess they are shoots from the mother tree.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Ronnie~~There are few rules in the Nest, but I think one involves spelling your fellow owls' names correctly :o| :o) ;D~ Off to pick your bouquet!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Jodi..LMAO. I figure if I march on the off pages I have a better chance of not being blown outta the nest.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Everyone have a great afternoon!!! I better go cover up my natural "blondes".....yeah, that's the ticket!!!

LOVEY - Thanks for the workout!! :P

TINKA - Please take a picture of your little lilacs when they bloom!! Thank you!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  96. When I look at my owl I think she isn't made for marching. I think she is made for waddling.
    That's my problem.

    ReplyDelete
  97. RONNIE - lol @ your spelling of BON!!! Reminds me of some of my favorite things!! :P

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jodi - I will. It will be about another week before they are really pretty. I love lilacs too. Next to daffodils they are my favourite spring flower.

  111. Hi everyone!

I have to go into work for 1/2 day, so thought I'd stop in before I have to leave!

Glynis, I will be thinking of you and your boys. I worked in neonatal ICU for many years and I have a soft place for the littlest angels, especially the premies.

Best of luck and hang tough.

Bono I too would love to see lilac pictures! They are such lovely, fragrant flowers.

Hi Lovey! Thanx for the fan, it's really getting warm here!

    Dreama, nice pic!

See you all later! Try to behave (cough cough).

    ReplyDelete
  112. LOVEY - You'll have to save the quarters for the next time. Time for me to get going....power nap, cover the roots....then off to SPAMALOT!!!

  117. Happy Humptynoon everyone!

I am home trying to catch up and then I am off and running again.

Thought I would just check in and make sure everyone is finally awake! LOL

Glynis: I agree with everyone here. Go with your instincts! I get irritated when the schools try to force these issues. I always suspect it is not about the betterment of the children but about funding from outside sources. Drives me crazy!!!

Bon: You guys must be a bit warmer where you are. My lilac is still all tight buds and does not look like it is ready to burst open yet. I can't wait. These are my favorite flowers.

I have a hard time every year debating whether or not to cut them or enjoy them on the bush.

    Jodi: Have fun at Spamalot!

Ok I must get more work done!

    Muwaahhh to you all!

  127. I think I need to explain something here about calling bon'oregon, "Bob'O".

It was a typo from an email a few weeks ago between she and I, that we had laughed at in the past.

I think there are some underlying jokes that I don't know anything about.....sorry for my mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ronnie--
The "bad girls" call BOB.. (battery operated boyfriend)..

    ReplyDelete
  129. I just woke from my nap. Time for a snack and then get ready for my computer meeting tonight.

Ibebold - You sure have a cool boss. Ones like that don't come along very often. I love every day now that I am retired. No more hump days for me. Oh that sounds sad.

BonO - How organized are you that you could find the post that shows you telling me about magnetic clasps. Thanks for solving that mystery for me.

I will be back tonight or tomorrow. Have fun.

IBB: You your hubby and your boss are all wonderful people! Enjoy that delicious meal!

I am so happy! I got the permit paper work done for the fundraiser for the foodbank! whew that is off my mind.

I also just ordered a bunch of fun hats for our costumes!!

I actually feel like I have gotten something accomplished today!

Now on a mission for bow ties.

    Be back in a bit.

  135. I wrote a long post and it disappeared! ARGHHHH!!!

LynnD Loved your early morning march. You are quite feisty now that you are regular again! LOL

Glynis Hope your meeting goes well. You will make the right decision.

Lovey My second husband was a police lieutenant and was trained in forensic hypnosis. The State decided evidence garnered thru hypnosis could not be used in court because of the danger of tainting the subject's memory. They could still use it as a tool, but evidence to convict had to come from other means. I did not feel the psychiatrist on Oprah's show was conducting the hypnosis in a proper manner.

  139. ZonaBaby - You are up. That's great. I just woke from my nap a while ago and I have so much to do I don't know where to begin. I am lost without my cleaning couple. I have to get a new service. Retirement isn't meant to be spent cleaning my house. Jodi phoned and left a message assuring me I will get better at the march. I am sorry I missed her call.
Yes I think I will be 35 on my next birthday. That's a fun age to be. If I am still to be your mother you will have to be about 17. Is that about right?

    ReplyDelete
  140. J/LIN: Wait!! I have some things for you to mail!!! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  141. TINKA: 17 sounds perfect to me! I just have to convince my knees! I think maybe you need to put on those boots you have and you will win every march! We'll call it the Pink Pounce! :)

I'm so friggen hot today too. I even went home and changed clothes. I know it's no where near MEK and Zona heat, but it's so muggy out. Ugh. Bon...is it muggy down there too? It's suppose to get into the 90's this weekend. But that's ok because we are going up to the mountains with friends to camp for the weekend! YAY!

I am SO glad that Medium was on against that and I didn't have to suffer thru that season!!
