Weddings

by Iteach

During the past couple of months of we have discussed all the fun traditions that summer brings upon us. One summer tradition that stands out in my mind our weddings. In honor of all the summer weddings I would like to share with you one of my favorite wedding scenes from T.V.

The reason why I love this scene is because every time I watch it, I burst out laughing. The acting was AMAZING. I hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

  5. Mek - Congratulations Mek on being first through fifth. You really are up early. It's only 6:15. My 'fur-babies' are fine. They don't understand why the visitor is still here. I think they are jealous of the attention I am giving her. I am off with the 'babes' as soon as I can feed them, myself and get ready to go down and see my mom. I know Marie will sleep late so I will be back home before she wakes up. Our plans for today will depend on how she feels. I will be back later to guess who "The Beauty" of the day is.

Ronnie - I didn't get a chance to say how beautiful you are.

Iteach - Thanks for the video. It started my day with a smile.

  7. Good morning mek and tinkatia!!!

    Congrats on first mek!
    Ronnie, loved the picture yesterday!

iteach, thanks for the laugh!! I got married at 10:00am in Aug., 1972. My bridesmaids and maid of honor slept at my house the night before. We all woke up late! In fact we awoke when the photographer rang the doorbell!! He waited while we all got dressed. We were only 20 minutes late for the church. LOL

Iteach: I love weddings where everything goes wrong! Those are the memories you keep forever.

At mine I was already to go and was putting my new lovely shoes on when I discovered they were both for my left foot! LMAO

Hope everyone has a great day!

  12. Good morning!

I love that clip, it's been years since I've seen it!

I love weddings! I loved planning mine (my first one). I got married 2 weeks before Christmas so it was holiday themed.

My second was just this past November. I was sick! I wanted to go ahead anyway. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot of the courthouse, I threw up big time.

We went inside and I went to the bathroom, my makeup was a mess but I did fix it up as best as I could.

We did the short ceremony, then were going to go to lunch (Seaside Lady was our witness). I threw up in the parking lot there too, so had to postpone that.

When we got home, I threw up again and went to bed. I did not spend my wedding night the way I thought I would!

I once went to a wedding (a Jewish coupe in their 50s) and at the reception everyone got so drunk that we all jumped in the pool, fully dressed.

    Yes, I did too haha!

    I love weddings!

I did hear something about Tiger winning yesterday, is it really true?

Hi to Pink, GM, Sandie, Iteach (GREAT BLOG!!!) and Lynn!

MEK I was shocked that the Bachelorette sent Sean packing! I was glad she sent creepy Twilly home, but I did not think Sean would go.

  15. Hey Whab!

    Are you planning your wedding?

  16. Good Morning Everyone from sunny Phoenix where it is already 92 degrees!!

ITEACH: We got married on St. Patrick's Day. The luck of the Irish was with us, as the day went off without a hitch. Oh, except the groom was late. And the candles wouldn't light. And the rings wouldn't fit. And we all got a case of nervous giggles. ;)

When we were rehearsing, the wedding coordinator told us to "walk slowly down the aisle after the ceremony so your friends and family can see you...". I don't know what got into us, but once the ceremony was over...we were about half-way down the aisle when we started to walk REALLY fast..until we were almost running!! The whole church exploded in laughter. Not that lady though..she looked positively ashen. To this day Mr. Z says I started the sprint..but I think it was him!! LOL!

Great blog ITEACH...so much fun! Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. MEK: Congrats on FIRST!! Stay cool today!! Oh..and yes we heard..you goof!! LOL!!! :)

TINKA: THANK YOU so much for the beautiful flowers. They were such a wonderful surprise. Our whole house is filled with their fragrance. Mr. Z stood stunned when he saw how gorgeous they were. That was such a sweet and thoughtful thing for you to do! Love you!! :)

LYNND: LOL! I HAVE two left feet, so your shoes would have been perfect for me! ;)

WHABBEAR: First week in October, yes?? :)

EBJ: Oh my!! Well, at least you have some VERY memorable moments!

VIG: You make me laugh til I cry..Pelicans...ROFL!!

    HI GRANDMA MOSES!! HI SANDIE!!

Ok, time for me to go to sleep! I hope everyone has a great day.

  18. Good morning Mek (congrats on 1st), Tinks, Sandie, Iteach, LynnD, EBJ, Whabbear and Zona.

Great clip Iteach! I loved that show! I think I have only been to about 4 weddings. Not a big thing for me. My younger sister and I were brides maids in my older sister's wedding. We had burgandy Little House On The Praire dresses. Our Aunt made them, but I don't know who she meassured cause you could have fit both of us in the one dress Lol! Plus it was really windy that day and the idiot who took the pictures decided to take them outside. You had to hold onto the dress so it wouldn't fly up over your head. Ahhhh memories!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good morning to Sandie, ebj, whabbear, zona and lynn d!!

Lynnd, what did you do? Wear a different pair of shoes??

ebj, sorry you were so sick for one of your weddings. Sounds like you had crazy fun at your friends wedding!!

zona, lol fun hearing about your wedding!

bear, see all the things you have to worry about? lol

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good Morning to you SHIRLEY!!

Ok..now really really off to sleep!! Night!

    ReplyDelete
  21. just doing a quick fly by until later...Ronnie!!!! WOW!!!! You're such a beauty!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Zona: Yep, first week of October! We're deep in planning right now!

LOL@your sprinting down the aisle! That must have been quite a sight!

Poor East Bay and Lynn D! Yep, GM, I'm already getting nervous! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Morning owls!

Thanks for the clip iteach! I needed the laugh...

I was sick for my wedding too, I had a rip-roaring cold and my ears were so stopped up I was afraid that I wouldn't hear the Minister.

The day before we had gone to check the church and the flowers had fallen over, my soon to be husband swore mightily not realizing the minister was behind him.

After the ceremony, he practically dragged me back up the aisle and as we got outside swore again...you guessed it...the Minister was behind us.

I heard he offered up a prayer on our one year anniversary, I wonder why????

    ReplyDelete
  24. Boy am I brain dead today. I just let Mr. Lynn D take off with my keys to the foodbank! Today is the food run. Thank goodness I tracked down someone else who has a key!

GM: I sent Mr. Lynn D and my brother to the nearest Payless store ( it was before RiteAid bought them out)they found a pair of heels that worked and voila we were married! I was considering going barefoot!

Whabby: Double check your shoes a day before the ceremony! LOL

Zona: Was the race down the aisle to get to the reception and booze or for the honeymoon? LMAO

EBJ: Boy you were determined to get married! LOL

  27. Hello All:

    Mek: Congrats on first.

EBJ: Congrats on your wedding recently, but so sorry to hear you were sick.

Your story about all jumping in the pool fully dressed was funny.

    iteach: great video and topic.

Ronnie: you are Sooo beautiful. That picture was too funny. :)

I hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!! Hugs to all, sorry I didn't name everyone but just home for lunch real quick.

  28. My guess is definately Jodi. No doubt.

  29. Good Morning Owls!

I loved watching Rhoda... thanks for the clip. So many fun memories! Poor Phyllis never got anything right. And Carlton the doorman... did we ever SEE him?

Who is Tiger Woods and what did he win yesterday?

Just kidding, but I really wish I could see MEK's face while reading that.

Shirley, I think you are right. My guess is for Jodi too! And if not Jodi, it must be Joey.

  30. I forgot to tell you a funny story that happened during our wedding.

The lady who was helping me at the church suggested that we pre-light the unity candle so that it is easier to light during the ceremony. So we lit it and blew it out really fast.

When we blew it out though, it stayed red and burned itself down into the candle. So there stands Berry and I at the alter and it is time to light the unity candle. We touch our candles to the single wick and the ashes that were standing fell apart and there was no wick in sight. We started to laugh and the pastor and I started to dig into the melted wax to find the wick. Nothing.

Berry's mom was sitting right next to the person who was video taping the ceremony. She had no idea that we heard her on the tape later saying out loud:

Remind me to never go camping with them!

Whabbear~ Do NOT pre-light a unity candle. Or better yet, skip the damn candle all together!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm going with Jodi too. I bet Tina will agree!

Lynn it wasn't so much that I was determined, there just was no other date that would work!!

With busy schedules and getting ready to move, that date was planned out ahead. Postponing would have meant trying to squeeze in another date somewhere down the road. It just wasn't convenient to postpone!

Zona we had a bunch of errors and goof-ups in wedding #1.

We laughed for years after when we'd watch the video of the ceremony.

The most recent wedding I went to had a funny thing happen. The bride and groom went to light the unity candle, and the wick of the candle wasn't long enough to light.

The priest pulled out a small pocket knife from his robe and cut the wax away so it could be lit.

Everyone in the church cracked up. Not so much that the candle wouldn't light, but cause the priest had a Swiss army knife under his robe!

  32. Good day to all who've swooped through or will later, and thanks ITEACH for the chuckle. Just hearing Carlton's voice brings a smile...and reminds me how I miss hearing him as Garfield.

Yep, there's no denying that Jodi smile! I was willing to commit this time, the second I saw it. Did the same yesterday, but~~having no picture to compare to~~had only the 'silly sophisticate' mental image for guidance.

LynnD~~I can so relate to being brain-dead today. I think it's the marine fog-layer blotting out the sun. That's MY story anyway. Think I'll nap 'til the sun breaks through.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm loving all the silly wedding moments. I'm starting to wonder if a "perfect" wedding is bad luck and that if something goes wrong it is good luck? (Nothing went wrong at my wedding and look at me?)!

I'm just glad I get to have a "do over"! I just hope there WILL be a chance for me again!

My guess is Jodi too! What a cutie! (And she still is)!

  34. Sandie - after I shut down the computer I realized that it was TUESDAY - and figured I would see WHO was paying attention!! Good catch...

Glynis - I knew you were kidding!!
    :-)

EBJ - I thought for sure she would send Jesse home, cuz "I really wanted him to kiss me" - heck, she couldn't have pucked up her lips MORE to give him a clue!! HELLO!!

Whabby - are you planning a wedding??!! LOL

EBJ - I remember how sick you were - I felt so badly for you..

    Zona - it's already 100 here - and just 10a.m.

Iteach - it's th 22nd - funny story - on the street we lived on when we first moved down here - I was at a tupperware party and we had to write our anniversary down on a piece of paper - and whoever's was closest to the date of the party would win a prize.. WELL, three of us were married on the same day - same year - so we had to narrow it down to what TIME we got married........ I lost by a half hour!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. That Owl is JODI!! I don't even have to wait for Tina.

MEK, I do the same thing during the summer--I really have to think about what day it is.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I had to share this with you guys!

I let Barney outside (before I leave for my errands) and there were three lizards on the porch column - all doing "push ups" - it looked like they were humping my house - but to see the three of them in perfect unision - like they were in exercise class!!

it was funny to me - you probably had to be here!!!

    HAPPY TUESDAY - everyone!!
    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. okay -I'm outta here - be back later.

    ReplyDelete
  38. MEK - Great visual!!! Makes me think of the "Thriller" vitamin water ads!!!

ITEACH - I love the clip.....really made me laugh today!!

My guess for the pic is JOEY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. This September we will be celebrating 19 years!!! No major mishaps......except that my fil showed up in the wrong tux!!! Oh, my freakin' hell....about had a heart attack. Thankfully the shop that we rented the tux's from came right over and made things right!!! I guess the other funny visual that I remember was driving to the hotel. I drove my mil's car, but when I got into the car, the 5 tier hoop totally went over the steering wheel. Crap!! So I had to stuff the whole thing under before I could drive anywhere!!! :D

ZONA - I can just imagine you running down the aisle!!! Probably just couldn't wait to jump MOOSE'S bones!!! :P

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am home for a little while. My 'girl' is just waking up so I have had time to read the wedding stories. They are great. I have no idea yet what my plans are for the day. It depends on how she feels. My mom is feeling better and has no memory that she fell on Father's Day. Sometimes I think short term memory loss is a blessing. She has no memory of anything bad ever happening in her life including losing her oldest daughter.

Jodi - You look the same as you did at 16. How do you keep that youthful look? Must be hard work and good living. LOL @ the picture being Joey. I bet he was cute but not that cute.

Zona - I am glad you liked the flowers. You deserved them for writing such a great blog and for just being you. I saw the picture and I am pleased with what they put together. It's always nice to see what you've sent because sometimes the arrangement might not be at all what you asked for but you never find that out. Have fun in the pool.

My wedding was picture perfect and to quote Forest Gump "That is all I have to say about that".

Be back later when Carol reveals the big secret that the picture is our friend both on the blog and on the phone, Jodi.

Have a great day all little owls in the forest. Be good or
Ms. Tinka will have something to "say about that".

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mek - I see you are up and have your marching shoes on. I am close to needing my nap.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Okay, this one is easy. That cute pixie smile is Jodi's. I have no doubt. She's hardly changed at all!

MEK Congrats on first again. How do you do it?

iteach Thanks for the great blog today. It's always nice to start the day with a chuckle.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Good early afternoon everyone,

Thank you so very much my little Owlette friends for all your kind comments about my graduation pictures. Those were really fun days. And Glynis, I can't believe you said I looked like Joey...too funny....he doesn't have boobies.
(well, not that I have seen, anyway.)

Congrats Mek on 1st....shhh, Did anyone tell you yet that Tiger won the baseball game yesterday?

iteach~ love the clip, and have seen and been in a few weddings with mishaps. Very funny, and at least they weren't mine, with the exception of my best friend forgetting part of her solo she sang.

Waving my best wing to everyone before and after me today and enjoying your comments. It's kind of like America's Funniest Video's with the visuals.

My guess for the cute little Owl picture is Jodi. Got those pretty brown eyes working for you, Jodi.
That's my guess, regardless of what HoTina says. lol

Busy day here today, but hope to be back tonight.

Thank you again for being so kind with your comments about me.

  44. The day of my wedding it poured and poured rain. It was also very cold.

It did not bother me at all.

I was so excited that I finally found the right guy.

It was like Rhoda's wedding, standing room only. Everyone wanted to come see that Jennifer was finally getting married!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. RONNIE - lol @ baseball game!!!

iteach I'm so glad you found the right guy and I know all your friends and loved ones were happy for you, too.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jodi - Thanks for the phone call. I was just writing you and you called. Are you psychic or something? My girl must have gone back to sleep because there is now no noise coming from her room. I think I will have my nap now. Enjoy Hairspray.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ITEACH - I think that is part of the reason that my Mom and Dad threw such a HUGE party.....(we served 410 people dinner).....lol!!! I distinctly remember them actually offering MR. JODI $500.00 and a tall ladder just to take me off their hands. :P

    ReplyDelete
  58. well....everyone is saying Jodi. I was thinking K-girl. Better say Jodi like everyone else!

  60. oh and......super cute pic! What a beautiful smile!

I must say....we were all a bunch of hotties in High School!

  61. Happy Tuesday Owls.

Iteach: What a fitting theme for today's blog, because today is the first day that same sex couples can be married in California. It's practically the only thing on the news. They just showed a couple who have been together for 48 years. They looked so happy. Thanks for the blog and the laugh.

I have a financial seminar to get to so I must make this brief. I hope everyone has a nice day. BBL

  67. Ronnie~ Did I actually say that YOU look like Joey....or that Joey looks like You? Hmmmmmmmm.....

I am always teasing about Joey and the photos because I have no clue what most of you really look like.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jodi~ Did you watch the original version, or the one with John Travolta? I actually prefer the original, but probably because I grew up near Baltimore and a huge John Waters fan!

    ReplyDelete
  69. GLYNIS - I watched the one with John Travolta....but I really should hunt down the original. Didn't Rikki Lake play Tracy in that one? I will definitely be watching it again.....I thought it was great!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I forgot to LOL at MEK for being first yesterday AND today!

    ReplyDelete
  71. by the way MEK.....did you hear that Tiger won yesterday???

Jodi~ I'm sorry....that picture looks nothing like you....but I'm going to have to go with Tinka on this one......I guess it's you~ :)~

    ReplyDelete
  73. iteach~ loved your blog~ Loved Rhoda and Mary~ The only things I can remember from my wedding is the priest calling my hubby by my maiden name....I actually didn't notice it...but he and his whole family did~

And at the reception, we arrived by boat (thanks to my uncle) and the person video taping...instead of taping me and hubby getting off the boat, taped the cute girl in the bikini walking by...i was pissed at the time, but now just laugh~

OH....and to be funny....hubby has always said "that he will never forget the day we got married....June 28th!" (we were married on July 28th! Well he said it so much that one year, he truly thought our anniversary was in June.....I let him celebrate twice that year~ :)~

    ReplyDelete
  74. I don't really have any funny wedding stories. I do remember showing up at the church and hubby-to-be pulled into the parking lot right behind us. I freaked out and layed down in the seat because, you know, the groom can't see the bride before the wedding! And then after the ceremony we walked down the aisle and I burst into tears and practically jumped into his arms. Not sure why, but I was kinda emotional. And then at the reception my niece walked up to hubby and kicked him right in the shin, right in front of everyone. Not sure why that happened either! But I guess it all worked out. We will celebrate our 25th Anniversary in August!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Barbara~ I bet you kick him in the shin now~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  76. well darn it all anyway. i'm having a senior moment. i was going to do something and now i have no clue what it was.

    ReplyDelete
  81. JODDDDDIIIIIII!!!!!! It's YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm BBAAACCCCCCKKKKKKK..

from my day of paper crafting...

LOL - okay, you guys, I am only going to tell you ONE MORE TIME...

    TIGER WON!!!!!!! LMAO!!!

Jody - My FIL (God rest his soul) refused to wear a tux to our wedding and showed up drunk and in a striped polo shirt... (NICE - NOT)!!!

Just Lin - this will (hopefully) be my last day as FIRST - cuz I'm hoping the animals will let me sleep since Mr. MEK will be home.

Iteach - Raining on the wedding day is GOOD LUCK - we had rain - and since the church was under construction - the parking lot had been dug up and was a mud bath! I had to walk a plank to get in and out!!

Tina - we got married on JUNE TWO-TWO - hubby can't forget that -

He just called - missed their flight - so they are on a later one...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Barb in WA - don't kick him too hard!!

I almost have this little cd book done - just have to finish up some flowers and some brads!! YEAH! Didn't really like the paper after I bought it - but it sure has all come together VERY nicely!!

Now - I just need to work on a TON of Thank you cards!! LOL

It's still REALLY hot here.... guess I'll go see if the lizards are up for entertaining me!!

I hope everyone has had an excellent day!!

TINA: Boat?? Really? That's pretty cool...oh not the girl in the bikini part though...I didn't mean to get in your video..sorry..;)

  86. MEK's fil reminded me of my ex-step monster-barmaid-real-life-crackwhore that my dad was married to at the time of my wedding. So of course he had to bring her. I was so pissed when she showed up in this tight low cut red dress. At the time I thought it was so inappropriate. Hell.... she could have showed up in a nuns habit and I still would have thought she was a whore!

  87. BARB/WA: Mr. Z's brother brought his future wife...who had tried her hardest to break us up. Funny, none of the pics of her came out...;) Not to be snarky..but their marriage lasted a year...

  88. Zona~ you could have told me that was you in the bikini! I would have invited you in~ :)

  89. ZONA - What are you trying to say.....you were going back for seconds?!!? :P

  90. Just got back from what I thought was going to be a game, but alas it was only a practice. Oh, well.....nice night to sit out and get some fresh air. We had a lovely day here.....about 72 degrees with a cool north wind!!! It could stay like this all summer.....oh, and the best part...mid 50's at night!! Perfect sleeping weather.

  91. TINA: Oh babe, I crashed it..don't you remember?? ;)

ROFL at celebrating twice that year..I'm brain fried and a little slow on the uptake...but eventually I get it!! :)

  92. zona...funny, we had the same problem with our wedding pics!

    ReplyDelete
  93. JODI: Ummmm...think dessert at a banquet...;)

I don't think I'm liking those temps you are throwing around so freely..

    ReplyDelete
  94. BARB/WA: I wouldn't malign vampires in that way...I just think the camera had good taste!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. ZONA - You could always move to WESconsin!!! Oh, don't worry....we will soon have our 95 degrees with 100% humidity soon enough!!

TINA - I would pay big money to see ZONA in her bikini!!!

  97. MEK~ congrats on # 1, and also for Tiger's win! My 10 yr old grandson LOVES Tiger, has one of those golf video games that you can program to make a picture of yourself, and he always wants to be Tiger! And the little bugger can really swing! He golfs with his Dad quite a bit. I told him he needed to practice really hard so that someday he will be the next Tiger Woods and can take care of his Granny in her old age!

I have no idea who the Senior Picture is today, I really suck at this. I didn't even vote for myself!!!

Iteach~ Thanks so much for the wonderful Rhoda video clip! I remember that espisode so well. I was a MTM and then Rhoda fan bigtime. They just don't write comedy's like that any more.

My wedding was so not like most of yours. We got married in Hoopa, Ca. If you don't know where that is, I don't blame you! It is an Indian Reservation in Northern Humboldt County, CA up in the Trinity Mountains, near Willow Creek, where we had moved to from Los Angeles.

We got married by the local judge, and for payment gave her a jar of home grown, shelled and roasted walnuts!!! She was quite taken aback by the group we were with. 1070's hippie type people. My friend Susie and I made my dress. It was sunshine yellow with little white lace trim.( circa Little House, also) We also baked our own Wedding Cake, and decorated it with roses from our yard! There were about 6 of us all living together at the time. We soon got our own place, though.

The kicker though was, a few days before we got married we had to go get blood tests in Eureka. The receptionist told us to come back in about three hours for the results and get our certificate. So, when we returned, I overheard the lady talking to someone on the phone and she said that a young couple had been there just a few hours earlier and that the test had come back positive for Syphllis! I almost fainted right then and there! She turned around and looked at my ashen face, and said "Oh no, dear, not YOU, a soldier had just come back from Vietnam, and it was him." I was sooo happy! But then, I suddenly felt so sad for the other couple. Can you imagine being engaged to your soldier fiance, and then him coming home with syphllis. How tragic.

Whabby~ didn't see you on TV today getting your marriage license in SF!! When is the Happy Day???

Ronnie~ what a prankster you are! I love both pictures! Very beautiful indeed.

Off to see how Laurie is doing. She is still not up to par. I was told by the nurse though that this stomach flu is really a bad one and lasts over a week. Well, its been 9 days now, and I am ready for it to be over!!!

Sandie~ hope your son is much better today!

Till later, have a wonderful evening all, DJ

  109. Hi sacbarb,
Boy, Mary in MI must be having the trip of a lifetime, how cool!

I have received invitations to financial seminars and stuff but never went. Was that what you went to tonight? If so, are they worth going?

  110. How fun to get a call from Jodi earlier today announcing that I'd won the "Who is this Owl" prize! When I asked what I'd won, and she said her call WAS the prize, the obvious response was "I've seen Goldie's pics of you, so I guess that means I win the BOOBy prize!!" What a cutie.

  113. Kgirl you will have to check with MEK on who won the golf tournament yesterday.

There is some talk that it was Tiger, but she will have to confirm that for you.

DJ that is a cool wedding story! I think the place you got married is where they grow lots of that green herb that people smoke ;)

  114. awwwwww.....it is jodi! can you be any cuter?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Bebbi: Yes I got the invitation in the mail and it was worth going even without the free dinner. I got a lot of good information even though I am already retired. I think it is even more beneficial for someone planning for retirement.
